I used to play tons of normal games but switched to mainly ranked now.
Normal is just for practicing heroes and builds and there can be a huge skillset variation amongst players in a normal match so stomping in a normal game doesn't mean much.

To be honest I find it quite hard to believe ranked is any better as far as toxicity goes, the biggest reason I avoid ranked is because I don't want to deal with even more people who rage and freak the fuck out over a video game every match. I figure it's safe to assume people will become even more hostile when they perceive you as a threat to their precious ranked status.

Another reason I kind of avoid ranked is because I don't want to become obsessed with a rank in a video game, it was a long time ago but I used to play Counter-Strike: Source very competitively and would constantly try and grind my way to the top of the leaderboard of the servers I played on and it kind of fucked me up mentally.

Just don't become obsessed with your rank? I stopped caring even when I have a 3 loss streak. Everyone here bitches about people intentionally walking down mid and feeding or destroying their items but the ONLY time I ever see that shit is in normal games, people bitch and moan in ranked but they at least still try. Also having a mid Pudge can make your job very risky if you're going for their offlane, because he can hook you under tower and dismember you. Drow isn't a hard hero, but she sucks balls at lasthitting, and has very weird scaling/farming compared to other ranged cores.

it's not THAT easy -- you need people who have grinded a fair amount of siltbreaker games, and know how to play their role, how to itemize, and basic strats for 3 star'ing zones. i don't have regular 'dota' friends so this option isn't really there for me. i actually did manage to get added to a group of cool dudes and we did 2 or 3 nights of attempts, but they weren't that "pro" and we kinda only figured out the optimal line up for our group on the last night of attempts. even then we couldn't even get past ogres. i'd love to try with them again, as i think only 1 or 2 more nights of attempts could do it, but 2 of the 3 dudes basically dont want to keep trying so that's done.

I had this abaddon offlane game where everything was meticulously architectured for me to feed. They had safelane juggernaut which is really fast hero, babysitting Roof and roaming kunkka.
