And then he turns around and pockets donation money for personal shit.

Emulating RE4, might finally finish it for the first time edition.

What's worth upgrading? I have over 100 bullets for the pistol already, I think I can get the broken butterfly if I get all the medallions right? But I don't remember liking that gun.

game is flawless so far, except that when reloading a quicksave from a reboot of the program the controls were messed up and I had to "drag" myself to a save.

Aka only reason to use it is being used to it which is fine or being a hipster that refuses to just use Gambatte or BGB.

1. Format locked down to shit and back.

2. Specification keeps getting "amended" by Jewllywood et al to lock it down even tighter (to the point of damaging their own product, in the case of Cinavia).

3. Discs are even more expensive than dual-layer blank DVDs.

4. Data layer sits RIGHT ON TOP of the underside of the disc (more on that in a minute), forcing spec to mandate advanced hardcoating such as Durabis to ensure data integrity.

5. Players need expensive as all hell (at the time) blue-ultraviolet lasers and optics, causing all sorts of price hikes and design compromises across the board (this is the reason they couldn't put the data layer under the label, as they do with CDs; the optics literally could not support a reliable read/write at the time).

6. Nightmare player implementation in the form of BD-J and all its phone-home-to-mamma garbage.

7. Shit authoring tools that require knowing Java.

8. Already being superseded by a standards revision that will require YET ANOTHER expensive player purchase.
>>
>>183830625

So what was that costly as fuck addon for the xbox for HD-DVD then? That was a locked down system.
>4. Data layer sits RIGHT ON TOP of the underside of the disc (more on that in a minute), forcing spec to mandate advanced hardcoating such as Durabis to ensure data integrity.
So? Durabis was proven to take steal wool and still be read from.
>7. Shit authoring tools that require knowing Java.
That is not a BD issue, this is a lazy fucker issue.
Boohoo i don't want to use java.

3. Discs are even more expensive than dual-layer blank DVDs.
As with all new formats. Do you know how much floppy disks cost back in the day?
>8. Already being superseded by a standards revision that will require YET ANOTHER expensive player purchase.
lol wut? Like said the only thing to stop BD is downloaded and streaming data.
>2. Specification keeps getting "amended" by Jewllywood et al to lock it down even tighter (to the point of damaging their own product, in the case of Cinavia).
So? Get a 3.55 PS3 put CFW on it and disable the cinavia. Problem soved.
>>183831172
The 4K BDs wont sell much because of streaming not because of a flaw in the format.

>>
>>183870746
>How are we going to notice if emulated Demon Soul shit framerate is due to the game or the emulator?
Once the emulator gets more accurate, it'll still say 60VPS/100% when it's emulating normal framerate drops, like any decent 5th and below emulator does.
>Also, is it me or this screenshot looks like there is some kind of filter.
Probably just DeS. It uses some blurry bloomy post effects, and has poor color depth.
>>
>>183870746
It's the game. Demon's Souls framerate drops on real hardware happen because of the PS3 limitations (Valley of Defilement make it slow as fuck on the real PS3, but on PC most people with non shitty CPUs are getting stable 30 fps). This project is pure black magic, my i3-2100 at 3.1 GHz can run the game on the "not-so-critical" areas over 20 fps all the time, over 25 fps on closed places.

>Once the emulator gets more accurate, it'll still say 60VPS/100% when it's emulating normal framerate drops
For some reason I don't think this emulator will ever truly behave that way, on real HW games perform already differently depending on the console (mainly you see the framerate dip more often when the PS3 goes over 75°C).
I think RPCS3 will run the game as fast as it can while still respecting either your own fps cap or the internal one.

>>
>>183871281
>For some reason I don't think this emulator will ever truly behave that way
Not sure, but it may already. I'm getting a stable 30fps in some areas in DeS, and rolling into boxes causes the framerate to drop yet the framerate counter stays at 30. Dunno if it's right, or because the drop is brief enough and the counter doesn't update fast enough, or there's some issue with the counter not reporting the right framerate (one of RPCS3's videos did mention that, but it was in a different scenario).
>mainly you see the framerate dip more often when the PS3 goes over 75°C
That's because the system underclocks itself. If you underclock any system you're not going to get identical results.
>>
>>183871709
>That's because the system underclocks itself.
The PS3 doesn't throttle I don't think, and the type of behavior you get isn't consistent with throttling, the game just start having very hard dips from time to time almost like a load freeze but smaller, throttling would degrade performance consistently.
>>
>>183871048
Well that's cool, this emulator is making quite the steps now, I guess money is a great incentive for emulation eh.

But speaking of frame rate, I remember that all consoles prior to the PS3-XBOX gen (excluding Wii) had their game logic tied to the framerate, which is why the speedup occured when running it uncapped.

Is it still like that even for PS3? Although it would most likely be the case for japanese games.

Remember Dark Souls on PC? There is cheat to run it at 60 fps, that came with some minor bugs (sliding stairs = death in some places...), this cheat edit a specific memory address that is particular to the engine... the same engine from Demon's Souls. We can have these games at 60 fps very soon anon
>>
>>183873593
>We can have these games at 60 fps very soon anon
I think that's the same method used for those N64 games patches, but that means that even finding one is going to be a pain in the ass.
Well some games do run at 60 anyway or are capable too, so with a good hardware it should work, the MGS HD collection and the Call of Duty games, you might ask "who would ever emulate those?" Well they support 2 to 4 players multiplayer so anyone who has 1 big powerful PC and now can have his not-Lan party.

But I bet my ass, that the games that will be harder to emulate will be Naughty Dogs games, they are going to be heavy and they utilized every trick they could.

Why is Nintendo so uptight against emulators and fan-works?

I get it, it’s their IP, but there is no reason to be so religious over it. They strike sites like it’s a crusade or something. I don’t know a word for this. Striking ROMs or ISOs (whatever they’re called) of new games is good, but they remove ROMs of old games… OLD games! Seriously?

When it comes to fan-works, Nintendo is harsh towards them too. Just look at the fan projects that died just because they used their IPs. Fan projects are supposed to use the IPs. They are under fair use, but Nintendo is ignorant. I think Nintendo doesn’t follow the regular copyright law. They follow a twisted and draconian version of it.

Also, fuck Jews for twisting the copyright and fuck Disney Company for extending it.
>>
>>183883219
>>bashes other devs for accepting donations to fund their projects

Times change. Everybody and their dog does it now, and it's pretty clear that the previous philosophy was not shared by the majority of emudevs and users alike, so why continue holding onto a failed formula?
>>
>>183884074

Look at the way they are cashing in on the emulator scene now with these NES Classic/SNES Classic cash grabs. Or the shoddy build quality of the Switch, and the crappy games (bar Zelda).

Nintendo don't give two fucks and everything now is just milking their koolaid drinking fanboys and ageing manchild 30-year somethings for all their money's worth. Meanwhile pulling artificial scarcity scams to make it appear as if the product is so much more successfully than it actually is - scarcity in demand must equal 'wanting to get it now'.

And it works with most people, so Nintendo gonna Jew.
>>
>>183884074
>I think Nintendo doesn’t follow the regular copyright law. They follow a twisted and draconian version of it.

Will he say 'sorry, I was wrong'?
>>
>>183884813

Nobody was wrong here. The intent was ultimately good-natured. Ultimately, the industry, emudevs and the like decided this 'subscene' to be turned into a nostalgia cashgrab sub revenue stream, and endusers mostly went along for the ride. You reap what you sow by quiet acquiescence. Now let's hope that same 'industry' doesn't go after even more romsites, starts badgering emudevs so as to only allow 'official emus' to exist (i.e. NES classic cashgrabs 'for limited time only' to create fake artificial demand)

So in other words, one should abandon their morals in other to appear more alpha? That's pretty sad Tbh senpai.

It's one thing to change your view on something, but if you're going to pull a 180 after insulting people for years, you ought to acknowledge that you were wrong, at the very least.

I'm not going to lose sleep over this because at the end of the day, karma often works pretty well. If SP ever wonders why not enough people respect, help, or back him up, he ought to look at his past actions.

If someone talked trash about me for years and later did the same action they criticized me for, I would not want to team up with them if they did not even have the decency to admit they were wrong.. But hey, I'm not putting all the blame on him because some other people in the scene are bad and even worse.

All I'm sayin is that the situation would be better if he reflected on his actions and acknowledged when he was wrong. You'd have less people attacking RA and more people defending it.

The problem is that no one cares about this issue and they hate him because of his personality. So it would not matter anyway.

Also he was not really "wrong" but was overzealous and too idealistic. He also hasn't "pulled a 180" because he has not put RA behind a paywall or closed sourced it, he is just allowing donations now.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't he attacked devs for simply allowing donations? What is your definition of "paywall"? Seems subjective because I hear people say that in just about any scenario where a dev is making money.

There was a time when optical media was relevant despite it's shitiness but it's long past.

Most other places you just have to not be a fuckwit and state you downloaded the game in your post, I've seen people get help with .66600 files on the RPCS3 discord and that shit you're not gonna see unless you're downloading games off the internet.

GLideN64 seems to be coming along quite nicely. Also, I see mupen64plus has been making some serious improvements to N64 audio emulation, such as emulating the N64 hardware bug that causes that one snowboarding game to have no audio on emulators, and for Body Harvest's audio to disappear at random.

>>

>m64p devs couldn't even fix Indian Jones LOL
It's been put on hold because Indiana Jones has extremely strange EEPROM behavior. The devs are waiting for an HLE ucode implementation to see whether the game behaves the same way in HLE mode as LLE.
>it's sad to see that it's behind a paywall..
It'll only be a few weeks or a month or so.
>wut? where does taht happen?
At random after extended periods of play.
>all they did was backport code from MAME. nothing new
New for every emulator not MAME. Sharing improvements between emulators is a good thing, you know. And the entire reason the MAME emulator exists, practically, is for research and experimentation in accurate hardware behavior. You're never playing N64 games on it.

I wonder if StapleButter sees any of the RetroArch patreon shekels. I mean, they're basically selling his work as a core.
>>
>>183991408

RetroArch is not an emulator, it's a libretro-compatible reference frontend player. You know this perfectly well of course., and you know that what you're saying is ridiculous, but whatever.

Hell, the buildbot is not even behind a paywall, and you are not even forced to use RetroArch with it. Any other libretro player could make use of the same server if they wanted to, and all of that is additional server costs that comes out of somebody's pockets. Who is paying those bills, you, anon?

It's like saying GNOME are stealing from LibreOffice just because there's a GTK+ GUI in there and GNOME might have a patreon/way to donate somewhere. Just a random comparison of how stupid this mindset is.
>>
>>183991574
Can you show me where I said it was an emulator?
>Who is paying those bills
Certainly not the RetroArch dev team. They have a patreon for that, as well as all of SP's other "expenses".

>It's like saying [strawman #6012]
It's nothing like that, since they would only be offering a theme, not the entirety of LibreOffice's functionality.
>>
>>183991408

Like byuu before him, if these guys have an issue with libretro/RetroArch distributing their cores, they could make their own libretro core port, and distribute it themselves.

If you are not doing that work and you have no interest at all to do it despite plenty of your users telling you they'd love to use your emulator that way, don't blame the guys that do.
>>
>>183991768

You aren't even making sense at this point.

Continue arguing until you are blue in the face about nothing.

If you think there are no costs associated to those servers, you are like a little child who doesn't know how the real world works. Grow up.

Or maybe lead by example, put in the work, time, resources and money, and see how easy it is to run all this and keep it going for years. You'd be surprised.
>>
>>183991805

How many times has this been done to RetroArch/libretro itself?

Where does all the crying happen then? Or, for that matter, help or support?

In a world where everybody sticks it to the next guy, don't be surprised when this is the end result. You work with what you have and you don't try to be isolationist, or else you don't get to judge where things lead to.

Also, what's to say Nintendo from getting 'upset' that any 'donations' or 'contributions' he is getting are taking away from their profit margin? Have you taken Cemu to task for the $20K/$30K they make a month? Stop being such a huge hypocrite, this is pretty much an underground pirate scene, where if you think about it realistically, any game publisher could simply see it as 'lost revenue' ,no matter if they are right or not.

There are no holy saints in this scene operating 'for the good of mankind', that is for sure.
>>
>>183992392
byuu's only problem is with Twinaphex and bsnes-mercury
>>
>>183992392

Is he upset that his Patreon has $192 instead of whatever Libretro has?

There is a word for that, jealousy and sour grapes.

Yet there are still people in reddit emulation who are asking him to make an 'official' libretro port, and yet he still rejects it. He could even use that for say setting a new Patreon goal, saying 'if I get $500 I would do a libretro port'. But he is either too inflexible or too stupid (or both) to come up with something like that.

Can't exactly cry then when you are not filling that demand, eh? You can either whine, cry and try to push some ideology down people's throats that they never asked for, or you can give people what they want and get rewarded by the people who wanted it in the process.
>>
>>183992501

Except Twinaphex never lifted a finger on bsnes-mercury, it has always been totally Alcaro's work.

Byuu is simply a narcissist nerd and control freak that wants everything done his way, and nobody else should interfere with his vision or his wishes. Not even maister respects him anymore, and the same is true for many other former collaborators.
>>
>>183992501

Byuu knows that Twinaphex has had no involvement with bsnes-mercury, therefore that cannot be the issue.

Simply put, byuu is just being a huge faggot about the situation. Both literally and figuratively. He could mellow up and just do what people are requesting him on reddit ('making an official libretro port'), then he wouldn't have to keep whining and crying about 'those outdated forks'. But he won't and libretro team are not exactly champing at the bits to make a Higan port. Why? To get a bunch of accusations and shitstirring again about 'this port is a disgrace, blablabla'? Not worth it. Let him do it himself if all he can do is judge and be negative, else it's a thankless job.
>>

The 'hate' is entirely one-sided, and Twinaphex has offered many truces. He never picked up on it, and there is a high chance he self-maintains that 'retroarchleaks' page just to keep the beef going.

To this date, if he were to change his tune and want to collaborate instead of being antagonist, SP would be all game for that. The 'hate' and 'animosity' is entirely one-sided. Ignore what you see in past IRC logs, if the offer was presented as such, SP would give it a shot.

Because ALL the PSX ISO's are broken according to the very standard they are meant to follow.
No PlayStation game is a single standard iso9660 filesystem so therefore no PlayStation game should be ever in a .iso (most iso psx games are renamed .bins with the cuesheet missing anyway).

Most of these shit dumps can be loaded in emulators like ePSXe and PCSXR because it has hacks to run them. For example ePSXe will skip the early boot process and just find the PlayStation executable and run it. Such things will never run on a PlayStation if it were a real disc.

mednafen is doing what should have been done years ago and denying this shit to get people to get off their ass and take out the trash.

Nintendo is in "we don't give a shit about baka gaijins" land, they are not Disney, they don't have that leverage.

But anyway, once the copyright expires what can they do? Althought that would take a while, I still have not understood how do you count it with videogames, like say if Myamoto died today, would it take 75 years from his death for Super Mario to be out of their exclusive domain?

Refactoring means rewriting code in some way. Backporting can require more than a simple copy and paste, it sometimes has to be rewritten to fit the codebase.

There's nothing wrong with taking code from others as long as you respect the copyright and license, while giving proper credit. The credit should to the people who invented these fixes, not some guy who just copy pastes from others.

Logan hasn't invented any significant contributions. It's just tinkering with other people's code, occasionally making real improvements to GLideN64 (the only thing remotely praiseworthy that I've seen from him). Yet people are praising him as if he invented all this stuff. That's why I felt the need to point it out.

Or I can just stick with Ishiiruka like I've been doing.

My point is that it's ironic how the people who cry the most about "fragmentation" are the ones promoting the exclusion of a portion of the userbase. Whether it would be old hardware, different backends, feature requests, etc.. It just doesn't make sense to exclude a userbase and expect there not to be any fragmentation.

I don't use retroarch very often, but I'm glad it at least exists. It caters to users who are neglected by some of these awful standalone devs.

Nah.
>>
when is retroarch coming to the chrome web store?
>>
>>184063321

You'd get better news from the wiki. I used to post interesting snippets until I figured out 90% of the people here only care about RetroArch. I myself use OpenEmu, but I still visit "upstream" because that's where 95% of the fucking work happens.

Is there anything in particular you needed to know or wondered about?

not really. i sort of figured i'd see discussions of beta features, unmerged things, which plugins are better for some emu. every now and then when i decide to look up whats new with various platform emus, i'm amazed at the progress they've made in short periods of time.

I realize the word gets overplayed around here, but...You really should never underestimate the power of weaponized autism. A lot of these guys have but two things to do in life:

1. Slog through whatever the fuck they do to keep from starving and provide a roof over their heads.

2. Go home and code 'till their (optional) testicles have crossed.

That's it.
>>
>>184064095

How the fuck would you know?
>>
>>184064202

?
>>
>>184064394
i do coding for other things not related to emulators. i don't post changes daily or anything but i get requests for it. its fun seeing people excited for updates though. i do follow some of the posts made by various emu devs and they can be autistic as hell.

It's really easy to track your shitposting style. Care to contribute instead of shitposting?

I don't really care how much you think I contribute, guy. As far as I know your opinion counts for dick and diddle and shit. Feel free to continue throwing a tantrum, though.

openemu is shit
>>
>>184064870

Ya. I make daily rounds to mednafen, mgba/medusa, openemu, and /emugen/. Occasionally I stop by RetroArch, but not often.

hey emugen, just installed Lakka on an old PC i didnt use.
After I put the roms in the roms folder, and I scan for it, can I delete them from the roms folder?

Bait
>>
>>184072567
nah it was a real question, but i figured it out.

My thought was after it got scanned it would be moved somewhere else, so I can clean out the roms folder.

but yeah be an asshole.

Literally anyone can. A 30 second old account can create one. But to get the sub actually active, you usually need to shill it first.

Come back with a Cemu bench.

So what's the best way to get around BotW hanging after the little "wake up" intro scene? There seems to be a lot of half-baked solutions, but no real general fix.
