You're right in that it isn't for brawling since it has shit DPM, but you can play it like a sniper on large open maps and as a road block on closed maps.

If you find yourself in an urban setting, you can push open a flank with only minor support. You have massive amounts of armor everywhere and a huge health pool, so you can tank hits while your support tanks run around your opponents and deal damage. Just try to coordinate a push and you'll do well most of the time.

It's the entire idea of artillery in the first place that ruins the experience for many players. You can't change the fact that you're being shot by someone with shells can't bounce, so they're guranteed to do damage. The fact that most have .7 accuracy is negated by the fact that they don't even need to hit your tank to do a decent amount of damage. It's someone who is screwing you over from the other side of the map. It would be fair if artillery only shot at you if you're in an advantageous position punishing those that run out in the open because you can't have tactics in WoT, but arty will shoot you if you're flanking or just playing your tank in general. As long as artillery is still artillery is always going to be a contentious topic.

You panicked and could have brawled with him better, but you are right. In the conqueror it's not a bad idea especially against a T-10 to push up against his front with yours. He's shorter so shooting at your cupola on top will be difficult and he won't have the gun depression to shoot your lower plate. You can penetrate the cupolas on top of his tank, think you're trying to shoot inside his tank through the cupolas. But from how it looks I think you were too short to do that. Another option you could have taken is wait until he fires, back away and shoot his upper plate. The T-10 has terrible track traverse he wouldn't be able to get around you.

These are both good choices, Russian heavies are solid all the way through the line (IS line at least) and are generally forgiving, with good armour and powerful guns, but they can be uncomfortable to play because of some shitty soft stats, most important thing to learn with them is sidescraping and armour angling

American heavies aren't as uniformly good, and their guns are kind of underwhelming, but they're very comfy and easy to drive, and are mobile and adaptable enough to roll with the punches whatever happens, and have invincible turrets for hull down tactics

Now I've got the hang of it it's certainly my favourite brit heavy. The grind is awful though, so awful. I quit and came back twice off the back of it. The BP wasn't bad but I don't know what they did with the HD version but it's shit now too. The stock gun grind on the conq is bad too, imagine facing tier X with the caernarvon gun. Really it goes both ways with the only exception being the 120mm L1A1, which is the very last thing to unlock anyway. Guns and engines are shared on basically everything before that which wipes out huge chunks of the grind, and it also means that the Black Prince only needs to research the tracks or some bollocks before starting towards the Caernarvon.
