ML is the VAfags' branch of the franchise. It's designed with the VAs and concerts in mind, giving priority to them over the characters. That's why you have cases like Ayumu basically being re-written to fit her VA. (I wonder how she felt about that, though) And as it's the branch that focuses most on concerts, they need to be able to sing well. But as it's not as character focused, they don't necessarily need to be very good at voice acting. Not that they're bad per se.
The VA focus is also the reason why Kotoha is still not in TD. Without a VA, she holds very little value.

This is normally the case. There are a lot of VAs who were shaky in their debut roles but have improved over time. Of course, there's also the VAs who do great right off the bat, but they aren't everyone.

I don't know, I think Pyon pulls the dumb action heroine voice really well with Mirai.

Subaru is a cute girl who is too used to acting like a boy because of her brothers, I think her voice also suits her very well. Sure, you could argue that part of it is "gap moe", but I don't see the problem with it when it's done well like in this case, everytime I hear Subaru's girly Ores it gives me funny feelings in my heart.

Makabe's voice is perfect and I absolutely love what her VA did with it. Back when ML came out I didn't care much about Makabe because I thought she would just be some kind of kuudere, but what made her one of my favorite MLs was her voice and the way she speaks, so I can't complain about it.

Do you have any ideas/examples of what you think those characters should sound like? Which VAs do you think would have been better picks?

I was actually doing market research regarding Android vs. iOS for an entirely different thing, but the debacle yesterday on this thread made me check the rankings regarding TD and SS for both platforms on a whim. And interestingly enough, for Android, SS ranks higher than TD and for iOS, TD ranks higher than SS.

While it's true that most of Japan are applewhores, recent years have been seeing growth in the Android market. While there have been some slight disparities, the more recent statistics from various sources indicate an OS ratio between Android to iOS as 45/50 to even almost plateauing at a 49/49.5 ratio. Take these figures with a grain of salt though.

But all these considered, there have been two constants in all the reports I've cross reviewed:
1. While I can't really pin an exact figure or ratio, the general trend is that more and more Nips are jumping ship to Android. I suppose the introduction of more models and brands entice customers to dive into the more competitive market of smartphones that isn't iOS. Plus, the fact that iPhones have been going more and more full retard with each subsequent release probably doesn't help.
2. While having some inkling of growth, Samsung remains the least dominant major hardware. Guess Nips still really hate gook electronics.

But let's ignore all that fluff. And go back to the thing that caught my eye in the first place. What exactly is the reason why SS still tops TD on Android? Do all TD players just collectively pool into iOS in a skewed ratio or something?

It's one of ML's most popular characters against an unvoiced CG in the gacha right now. So naturally, it should skew towards TD's side. And that reflects on the iOS side of things. But strangely enough, the Android side says otherwise.

Couple of potential causes
1. CG is more popular and widespread than ML. Meaning, a CG game is more likely to reach even a guy who chose to go with android instead of iOS in Japan

I think there's a pretty simple explanation for this.

If you own an iPhone or an iPad, chances are it can run both SS and TD without any problems.

With Android devices, it's not so simple. The "low end" of Android devices are far weaker than the "low end" of iPhones. There are phones that can run the games, phones that can't, phones that can only run them in poverty mode, etc. And TD is known to be a more demanding game than SS, so naturally there will be Android devices that can run SS but not TD. In fact, here's its official list of unsupported devices.

That's my theory, anyway. TD literally cannot be on as many Android devices as SS can, whereas with iOS it's a more even playing field.
