I have a question

I'm trying to write a story for my videogame but the more I think about it, the more ideas I have and the harder it becomes to keep track of them all in an organized fashion.

What's a good program that allows me to write down my ideas and connect them to each other? It just needs to be able to have nodes that I can connect I guess.

For instance: Player talks to priest:
1. Player hits priest>Priest gives no quest
2. Player asks if priest needs help>Quest starts

Personally I find that for brain storming it's easier to get a pad and just flick to the next page when you think the current idea is bad. You're going to be then able to flick through your previous ideas and see what ones you like best.

Don't listen to the meme men.
Python is a pretty poop language for performance but:

1) Python is NOT going to be the bottleneck in your code
2) Python is super simple for beginners, which I assume you are because you're asking these questions
3) You can code a simple platformer in absolutely anything and it'll work perfectly well

Python is totally fine for your game. C++ may be better performance-wise and knowing it (the language) will help you a lot. Game engines will be easier all around. But python is fine.

My player is currently being moved relative to his transform.forward.
While he's airborne I don't want him to be able to rotate. Obviously this makes the problem that regardless of stick direction, the player will always move toward his facing direction in the air (i.e. you hold back, he'll still move forward).

How would I solve this? Ideally I'd like it so holding back reduces your forward momentum a little. Basically like SM64 jump physics.

Yeah, it's just hard runner with nice synthwave soundtrack and some fun bugs I didn't fix due to laziness and them just being fun. I primarily didn't post progress here is due to my death mechanic, a quirky and fun message appears when you die and there are a few of them, so at least in the beggining stages of playing it will be fun to watch this message. I've actually wanted to post here so much, since I wanted to get praises from all the virgins here, but since my game is programmer art and due to the death mechanic with messages I just gave up on it.

Yeah I have my mesh and a uv-map. I also have my sprite textures in that TileFace folder. I just made a tile to see how it would look.

how do turns work in your game?

i can make all entities play in mine but i want animations and stuff in between the turns, however i have no idea how to transition from "think about what to do next" to "animate the action". in my game there are multiple characters playing at once.

i was thinking about making an "action queue" but not sure if that would work.

So I'm not familiar with Mahjong so I'll pretend you're making 52 poker tiles. I'd make a poker spritesheet and hard code the x,y offsets for every card in a static array. Then I'd write a shader that takes a 2d offset input and displays the spritesheet in the correct location while masking everything else.

Next make a "tile" gameobject base class with a static mesh component with the tile mesh and the spritesheet shader. The tile constructor should take a 0-51 int (representing the poker tile) and set the shader offset using the hard coded array.

If you need to spawn all tiles, you can just loop from 0-51 and construct those tile objects.

You programed in the water jets for you mecha's car was equivalent that the play can walk through via their own volition & thus have the option to have their mecha dirty or clean/variation under the player's prerogative which I imagine will come with various attachted stat bonuses/malus (visiblilty of mecha/rate of repair slowed) just so the player could have their options open and clean their mecha their way?

Have some quick progress. I determined why movement wasn't working right on speeds other than 1. It simply turned out I was resetting a movement variable based on a timer being at 1, which wasn't always happening because speed change meant time dilation. Instead I set it to reset upon a state change, which was the goal in the first place.

3d was a mistake.
They're too small and end up just looking like a jumble of pixels. Probably best to make the pickups 2d and more easily identifiable. But I'll keep this 3d mechanic and try it on other things to see if it works.

Have some more quick progress. Also I should probably do the recap before I forget. Realized with something like the scythe, depending on the attack it might completely ignore walls and not bounce off of them. So I changed the way I handle hit detection. The hitbox is actually different depending upon what we're looking for. If the weapon is busy checking to see if it hit a wall, it uses hitbox A. Then when it checks to see if it hit an enemy, it uses hitbox B. Of course, these hitboxes can be the same hitbox, and probably will be for a lot of weapons such as swords and knives. But of the scythe it doesn't work. Same for something like the test whip I've shown. Also forgive the super crappy wall hit animation.

I have an idea for a 2D JRPG about fusing monsters that would require a system for putting pre-made parts together to generate the sprites for each fused monster. eg your monster has arms, legs, a tail and a texture, depending on what you fused it with it would change the parts.

I haven't touched rpgmaker since 2000, but I hear that newer ones have far more robust scripting. I'd say that displaying the battle sprites should be relatively simple (just draw them on top of eachother), but overworld sprites will be harder to integrate with rpgmaker. It's even worse if you need animations. Personally I'd use a more complex engine for this, since you'll need to do some scripting anyway.

I figured it would be easy in other engines since I've seen it done before, and of course something similar is common in JRPGs with how weapon sprites are changed on characters.

I've done plenty of simple shitty games and even RPG Maker games, just so far it's all been experimenting to learn in GMS by doing simple scripts and using pre-made scripts.

Dungeon generator is fully ported now. Currently all the rooms are stitched together, but the next step I'd like to implement is it disabling all the rooms that aren't your current room, and then do some nice smooth transitions between rooms where you slide to the next and the previous room gets disabled, to keep draw calls as low as I can.

Man gm can be frustrating. I've got this retarded issue that only crops up once in every few thousand fames, where if the player is holding a direction key and hits the opposite key at the exact moment/step that the collision occurs, they can (very, very rarely) warp through a wall. Sega probably isn't in much of a hurry to re-release Jet Set Radio Future because it's a music licensing NIGHTMARE and the music tracks are tied into collectables so any music that doesn't make it back into the game has to be replaced or the game has to have codework done to account for the missing tracks.

Figures, just recently googled MMO platform coding. Not really for wanting to make a game, rather find a way to make it offline or look for a way to run unauthorized code.

Thing is you dream game is a big task in creating it, administering it, securing it (from people like me), protecting it legally-wise if you implement transactions of any kind, as well as constantly providing content at the correct intervals to keep the playerbase alive without jeopardizing quality. Regarding the last point, while I am aware furries are goldmines, I'm not exactly sure what is the minimum level of art quality for them to play your game.

Recommend you learn coding, mostly. Primarily handling databases, server-client communications and security. Once you have a solid base to stand on, now you give it the art assets (3d, 2d, whatever).

Now, back to finding a way to make a fucking existing gacha game offline.

Cooking is now fully functional, but still lacks a bit of polish.
How much food the player has left now shows up on the resources box on the bottom-left when cooking and sleeping.
Recovering back to 100% health costs a low amount of food and going over that costs progressively more, but sometimes it may be worth to "bet" the next run will be a good one and eat well before leaving.
Now to make the pickups work.

You can still make one. And no you don't need world class hardware to do it. You could start small, making a multiplayer game that has basic specs. It will be ok, so long as it is reliable. Then, build up from there.

Also consider joining up with other projects. You could learn some basics, network with some cool people, get a little creative, and maybe work on a larger project later.
