Are frigates a viable choice lategame ? Frigates in my fleets usually gets the majority of kills in the early to mid-game due to the fact that they actually are fast enough to catch and keep enemy ships within weapon range. However once you enter the capital ship phase they seem to decline in effectiveness pretty sharply, should you ignore frigates completely and just stick to destroyers as escorts instead ?

There is a semi-official SS discord, prolly you can ask there for help.
Also, copy stuff from Neutrino, the campaign level stuff (blaneds, markets, etc) should be working in there so you could probably alter two things and transfer it over piecemeal.

For stuff like the special scripts i'd say to alter everything to use vanilla stuff and comment/remove the "special" mod stuff (the fusor scripts for example), compile, test if it works, add something in, recompile, see if it works and if it doesn't try to understand what made the game REEE at you

I also learned converted hangar is really handy for keeping fighters in engagement range, I've had issues with my carriers hardly ever pushing forward and supporting my fleet with long range weapons. Should've used this hull mod sooner.

1. They have excellent flux venting depsite having full energy set up
2. The have Imperium tier armor in their cruisers and capitals
4. They have high damage energy blasters that kill a cruiser in 10 seconds, tops.

never send anything in open combat, you have to protect those carriers all the time. have some drone fighters to stop ships from firing at the wanzers too.

Dropped poor Versant-chan and the Drafts. Want to pick up a couple Calms, since they're basically two Drafts and a shield. Which ties into my feeling of not being able to field enough Wanzers. It feels like I'm not getting fighter superiority. So each Calm is going to be running Converted Hangars with Frosts. See if that helps fix things.

Just fought against a looter prototype fleet for the first time. My fleet consists of several hammerheads, one enforcer, one condor, two hades, one archer, one Interrex and my flagship, medusa.

I can't destroy them and they blast me down over time. Hyper massive armor, strong PD and very nasty fighter screen. The frigates are no problem, but the two cruisers literally teleport behind my ships. Their weapons have insane range and their fighters are very fast, resilient and have high offensive power. The cruisers alone can take a retarded amount of punishment and I think they might even have a slow regeneration ability.

The two cruises literally go "psh, nothin' personell kid" on my ass and teleport behind me several times, with no apparant flux costs to their teleport. I tried to get away with my Medusa to vent off my high flux, and the fucker literally teleported behind my ass multiple times and opened fire right away.

Meanwhile their fighters harass my ships with near impunity. All three hammerheads have 2 burst pd lasers and the enforcers has good PD with two autonailers.

And when I finally corner one of their cruisers and my fleet starts to tear into it, it just teleports away again.

How can I counter this and win the fight? Have any of you people already fought that kind of fleet and won? If so, how did you do it?

Those ships have 3500 armor and their fighters are small destroyers...they don't do much dmg but it takes forever to kill them, I don't see why you would be trying with your tiny fleet....

That being said they do drop A LOT of Ai cores

I'd suggest at least a few large mounts to make sure you don't run out of cr before you even take out their armor
They also have 30000 hp...

Thank you for your advice. I will attack this kind of fleet at a later time. Feels like they are intended to be some kind of very powerful boss faction, or something.

Oddly enough I remember meeting one of those fleets in an earlier game version and having a chat with the captian over the "comm link" option. This time they just engage right away, despite me being neutral with the Looters.

Anyways, thank you for the advice. Have a laugh in return.

Is an omni-shield conversion on a maelstrom a stupid idea? It has a long and skinny profile that makes it hard to hit from the front, but it takes so much fucking damage from flanking shots and stray missiles with its fixed frontal shield. Even a full compliment of Diable PD isn't enough to stop everything if you fly aggressively with the flicker core.

That 45 OP is a lot that could otherwise be spent on more weapons or maxing out flux. Should I drop the omni and fly less aggressively?

ideally you should be set up for long range on that thing, so you can duel other capital ships and win because of your small, efficient shield. the maelstrom gets a ton of small mounds for PD to cover your flanks against frigates and bombers. the normal armor envelope of the ship is usually enough to weather a few flanking attacks.

tl:dr I think omni-shield on the maelstrom is a waste and that OP could be put to better use elsewhere

Far from a waste. The flicker core is immediate mobility when you need it the most - disengaging or chasing. Give it any 1k+ range large weapon and a bunch of HVDs in the medium slots, and you'll do just fine.

The most effective solution isn't guaranteed to be fun. Stick a cautious officer on it if you don't enjoy piloting it. The Pandemonium is even worse at that, because you ideally just give it a shit ton of missiles and PD, slap Shield Bypass on it, and only arm it with Tachyon Lances for sniping small craft.

One option for surviving as "fragile" craft is to simply outgun everything and running the fastest venting speed you can possibly get.

If you find the AI doing something that's extremely annoying, chances are it's actually good.

A distraction. Less damage you're dealing to the other large ships. (Unless you have tactical lasers in the back and the AI doesn't know what to do about them)

The most annoying thing I've found Diable AI do was spamming flicker to disengage with and forcing me to chase through the rest of their fleet. Now, this is obviously not a strategic decision by the AI because they're just panic retreating, but it's one of the more effective uses. Bring your fleet with you, provide heavy fire support (this includes offensive Wanzers, or interceptors if your fleet is bad at PD) from roughly the center of the formation, soak as much damage as you can before having to vent, and turn off your guns so you don't overload while flickering out.

But admittedly, I haven't played much Diable, so I haven't had much room to experiment. Diable capitals have a free +200 range bonus, so making them support ships just seems natural to me.

The playstyle doesn't have to be passive either. Give Shadowyards' Mimir a try and arm it with CEPCs and Tachyons. Kind of has to rely on besieging other capitals, but dismantles anything smaller with immense burst damage.
