Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Are D1 mages useful for anything at all? Can a Revenant do anything other than sitesearch UW for a land nation? I have no idea what to do with the non-undead fucks other than spam Frighten.

Raise skeleton, while not nearly as effective as other skelespam spells, is still nice for putting something on the battlefield. It adds up with enough mages.
With a gem, they can use disintegrate and spirit curse, which are both nice against SCs.
Dust to dust is useful against undead, too.

If your neighbor is staling or has inexplicably gone ai, do you immediately go for his provinces or do you keep him around as a buffer and attack in another direction knowing your rear is safe?

I often do the latter but always make sure to be ready to start a land grab if I notice other players gunning for the free provs.

Province defence or good guessing is the only thing that stops flying raiders, outside of the storm global. Just recapture them once they're taken, really.

You research whatever will get you the spells/items you need to be effective. Research with a purpose. Your goals may change depending on your situation. If you start next to Ermor, for instance, you'll want anti-undead spells, and if you're next to Abysia or Marignon and have water mages, you want to be able to cast Rain.

You also generally want to get whatever will make you powerful in the long game.
MA Agartha, for instance, has very simple basic needs- they want Enchantments and/or Conjurations their national summons, they want Evocations for magma eruption, blade wind, and earthquake, and they want Construction for earth boots and skull staves.
There's many other things that are useful for them, but they will almost always want to grab these 3 things as soon as they can unless there's a more imminent need for something else.

Fuck, I forgot to mention the buffs. Earth Meld is really nice early game, too.
Marble Warriors and whatnot isn't quite as important for Agartha in my experience if you're going full statues thanks to already great protection, but if you're using lots of Living Mercury, Magma Children, and Umbrals it's god-tier.

Doom is kind of broken since the author is a hack.

Deyja is a stronger Sceleria. Like, really bullshit-tier strong Sceleria. Without astral, but with access to native RoS and banefire. My bet is on Deyja, just because of infinite skeleworks along with super strong mages and liches with AoE magic attacks.

Clowns are bottom-tier in all modnation games, and I still don't understand why someone would pick them. What a cruel joke.

The Hraithe: loads of magic for 18 pearls, and it can summon up to 6 national ghost units every turn for the cost of 10 popkill and heretic 3. Discounting the Shaman (which is good for its price, especially considering what Avernum has on rec-anywhere) as you obviously have, and ignoring the national ghosts because it's more economical to get them through the Hraithe, there's nothing else.

Latus is a huge map with awful balance. The mods mentioned are just fun. Chocolate Thrones/Sites increases the potential power of sacreds and the availability of summons/gems, Icelandic Magical Magic Mod increases the power of evocations in addition to other things, and More Temp Gems reduces the amount of micro for your armies. It also allows spamming Shadow Blast and other spells meant to be limited by gemcost.

The end result is that it expands the power of mages, which allows for even easier victories over the AI. Since the only enjoyment possible from SP is stomping the AI, it seems likely that people who enjoy SP will enjoy this result.

Well, I tried removing Tzeentch and Kirk just to see if they were the problem.
Game still won't start, I'm still not getting any error messages, and I still can't reproduce any of this locally.

I've emailed llama again to see if he can give me the feedback he gets from the game, but at this point I'm not sure what else to do.

Small reminder for our alternatively gifted friends with American education.

The difference of 1 in a stat vs stat check is 8% success chance, not including complex checks like attack vs defence + damage vs protection.

It means that if a nation has a unit with 10 in all stats, and another nations has a unit with same stats but 11 in attack and defence, the second nation's units are BETTER, and not by a small margin. That might not be evident in 1v1 because of DRN, but in big fights it's really obvious.

Right so D means death, the little purple skull path. A BVC is a bane venom charm, it kills population every turn a commander that is holding it is present in that province, and it diseases any troops in that province, including the commander. Black Servants are good for this role, because they ignore the disease and are naturally stealthy meaning that stealth boosting items like the ranger's cloak and boots make them harder to get rid of. I hope that helps, and that you learn how to be better at the game!

I will say in general I don't see the spells that heal allies working very well because they don't heal very much, and mages rarely offscript to them. Which would be interesting, in battle healers could potentially add a whole different level to battles.

I have used healing light playing Kailasa once. I had my monkey mages with my troops, but I hadn't hit Evo 5 yet so they didn't have anything too important to cast yet. Healing light was good because my sacreds were always guaranteed to take some damage with their shit prot, so healing light helped a little.

I fixed Tzeentch armor issues, Neritia's missing mage, and a couple of other very minor bugs. Apparently, armor #802 does not exist, even though several Tzeentch units refer to it. I replaced all references with 803 (Light Chaos Armor).

If these started out as commanders, and were in like conj 2, I could see them getting used with boots of the behemoth and black steel, but yeah as is they are useless.

All touch spells are close to useless, but still can fuck up a person randomly once in a few games. I remember my thug being killed by shocking grasp.

Hill giant has grab and swallow, which is useful. Giants also can be buffed by buffs, and they're really cheap.

Misfortune 3 can be annoying as fuck, but there are far better ways to spend pearls. It's not completely useless, it's just that there are better spells all over the place, and there's a lot of them.

FFA can potentially win you an important fight. It's expensive, and you're better off spending gems on fire elementals, but again, it's not useless.

They're not amazing as a place to dump death gems, but It's a nice way to get access to a size 6 trampler to add buffs to.

Like elephants, behemoths can't survive direct combat for long. Their cost is also generally too high for you to field enough numbers to rout/kill enemy squads before they can fight back.

However, (also like elephants) behemoths can perform much better if given buffs. Ironskin+Body Ethereal+Flight would be ideal, but even a single defensive buff can make it able to survive prolonged melee engagements.

They really shine in this situation, where their trample and fear can be used to full effect. They need fewer buffs too, since they don't have the morale issues elephants have to deal with.

Some nations find them relatively easy to counter if they know you're using them. A 100hp target with only average MR is a magnet for any single target spells. Consider whether your opponent can bring out any high precision and long range spells before deciding to deploy behemoths.

On the plus side, sometimes their high hp convinces enemy mages to drop evocations on them while they're sitting in the middle on an enemy army.

It's one thing if it's a pitched battle but if you don't expect the opponent to do nothing, that can be unpredictable and result in sending raiding forces against an army stack. I think a good player deliberately changes what they do but I've figured out many an enemy and found favorable engagements 20-0 and in that kind of scenario staling can be nasty (if I'm tryharding, I just send a revised turn at last moment before host if I think a player is poised to stale)

Still works. This is the wonder of Mage Bane. You get 110 fatigue from each hit, and it can't be helped. Reinvigoration will only purge a few points per turn, and with quickness you have 2 attacks per turn with reasonable attack skill. I dare you to test it on your favorite SC (or mom) build and see what happens. Doom horrors might be able to kill the dude, but if he hits them, it's game over for Kurgi boy and Co.

That being said, he still can be killed by concentrated banefire spam or a few dudes like on the pic. You can kill anything with banefire. If you can't kill something, you just don't have enough banefire or precision boosters.

This is a screenshot of my treasury not including items on commanders (and I had to put them on commanders, as sending 20 lanters per turn to fill it with thrash was a legit strat). Unarmored mages weren't an issue for anyone at that point.

2000 ghosts on a fort wasn't a meme. It was a necessity. I had around 3600 ghosts on each throne (and around 500-2000 on each fort) protected by 3 domes each.

The armies are not for fighting, they're for preventing the enemy from doing absolutely anything offensively. He can basically drop a golem on each of my forts, and I will still get gems every turn. Even if he drops his mindless chaff on one province at once, Flames From The Sky will kill it. Priests won't help against dropped tarts and other late-game shit.

And being unenthusiastic about making the first step in a turn 111 war is totally normal. That's why we settled for a draw.

If you succeed in 2 mind burns out of 10, you get 24+ AN damage that a SC can regenerate. If you succeed in 2 paralyze casts out of 10, you have one paralyzed SC.

Paralyze can paralyze a SC for 50 turns and it happened to me several times. It also doesn't get entirely negated by MR.

Decay is worse than soul slay or mind control but its a low level spell and thus can be spammed by many many low level mages to a great effect.

Fires From Afar basically only works on squishies like humans, but occasionally you can take out an important mage. It's really expensive, though, but hell, fire gems aren't that valuable.

Jaguar toads are cheap sacred tramplers available to a bless-heavy nation. A little tricky to mass, but even a few can wreak havoc on enemy lines.
Crocodiles are actually super strong, believe it or not.
Summon animals is notable for being very powerful for it's price underwater, where it can give you shit like sharks and krakens.
What happens if you cast summon animals in a cave or wasteland? I don't think I've ever tried either of those.

Luck/Misf seem to be more noticeable the more you have of it, since you get more events and the events are shifted worse. Anything lower than Misf 1 is probably not worth another income scale.

Xib's research is actually okay, and since you're running an asshole build you should have a reasonable amount of area to build into. Growth will make that territory worth more and better for hunting.

Been messing around with Bandar Log, was wondering if anyone had a better pretender suggestion than the attached? N9 seems standard due to the high hp of their summons and the golem access.

Additionally, been perplexed as to the best case research goals.

Alt4 seems like it should be rushed -> Conj/Thaum4 -> either blood or const depending on if or how early you get the Fallen hero (a blood 3 commander).

Lankas Warrior summons at blood 4 are NASTY with body ethereal in a turmoil prov.

If it helps, the game I'm going to be playing is a 125% inc and res game with higher magic sites.

Someone else here recommended just going N9, but I feel like the white ones and tigers would get overrun without something else backing them up. W9 is super good, but its costs are prohibitive without tanking more scales

I actually once lost a fight to Nahuallis autocasting a healing spell after their script ended. I was fighting w9b9 MA mictlan with storm and prot buffs up on both sides. I used stellar cascades to put most of them to sleep and then foul vapors to actually kill stuff. It was working, and his guys were dying while mine had regeneration and poison res, but his nahuallis managed to keep his sacreds alive for long enough to get to turn timer, and then they managed to kill a decent number of my fatigued out mages and troops.

It depends largely on who you're using it on. Against an army of humans with heavy mage support and not a lot of earth magic? Yeah, it can be pretty helpful. Against raiding ponymen? Yes again, since even if it fails you are likely going to maim the elf. Against giants or undead or pangaea? I wouldn't bother.

The fixes weren't the issuw though, sadly enough.

Turns out that the file was getting corrupted during upload so llama had to start it manually.
HOPEFULLY I don't need to restart and have everyone submit pretenders again because I would die.

I've actually tried some stuff out with them to test for another game, but all they did was confirm that they're actually useless. Eagle Warriors are also really great for getting onto soft targets and stuff that you want to hit selectively, and they just have incredible offensive power compared to jags. They get even better as the game goes on, since they can hit at the same time as deathcats. It's just no contest between the two for the cap slot.

So why the D9? Not a particularly strong bless for B Log, gets you a new path but doesn't really unlock anything for you the way blood would. And if you're just trying to make your tiger riders stronger W9 will work WAY better.

N9 is good, but your tiger riders won't be as blendy early on, so be aware that you can get bullied by a bless rush early on. I would highly recommend taking some points in Magic instead of luck 3 because yogis are top tier lab rats that you can use later on for S1 memes and even N9 blessed communion slaves (though you'll probably want to cast enlarge on them if you do this.)

I think the current B log meta is a Rainbow pretender with a W9 or N9 Monobless, and some blood and air to get Dakinis to get them into blood quicker.

You should definitely not rely on the B3 hero to break you into blood. So if you really want to get into blood, put it on your pretender. And if you take a pretender to get you into blood make sure you take him dormant. You may not have the research right away to use the blood on him, but you're going to want to start accumulating blood slaves early. Then you can use your pretender (assuming you took A1) to summon dakinis so you have more blood mages.

Also why are you suggesting Alt 4 as a priority? To get your tiger riders quickness? That's not incredibly reliable because you only get the W on your cap only mage.

Conjuration 4 is a good start for 2 reasons: 1. It gets your light of the norther star which makes your hordes of S1 mages very useful with some Evo or Thaum research. 2. It lets you use your national spell to summons Yakshas and Yakshinnis for Nature gems. Which gives you guarantee E3 and W3's for site searching, and they're good battle mages. Bonus: it puts you only one research level away from gandharvas, which while expensive, are top tier with N9.
