Evolves are much more impactful. Nobody liked to go first before ToG. The problem is that they keep making cards that snowball too hard going first, like Neutrals, Catacomb, or cards that completely nullify the value of evolves, like Orthrus, BKB and Sabreur.
You want to go first because you don't want to get steamrolled by that shit, not because going first is particularly strong. Proof of that is that in an unorganized environment like Take Two going second is still broken.

If you actually can mantain a board, which is the main problemn of drops like death eater. What is she going to eat if no one lets a minion stay in board unless they go full face, and in that case you are building something for a later threat instead of answering the early board AKA you are fucked. Lurching into eater is the dream but even then you only eat one minion and you are throwing 1/2 in the board while they are dropping feenas and pals.
I started recently so I don't know how things were in ToTG but Shadow feels like forest in that their whole strenght is being carried by eachtar. He's just better at carrying than roach, but if you remove him or nerf him without a compensation the whole craft goes to shit.

It's not that. The issue stems from powercreep. She does nothing to stop aggro from building board. Especially in the WD meta where nobody has the clear to stop that runaway train even if you do try to stall with dingdong. Then because of the powercreeped midrange and control wincons, stalling to lategame is still assisted suicide because your win con you're stalling for is objectively inferior in likely every way. Bell Ringer was never an anti-aggro card, she's a glorified Holy Water on curve. The entire point of her is to cockblock the biggest thing you possibly can with her in the lategame, which in Standard was usually Forte or Genesis.

She's such a great card because depending on the timing you can get insane value on her, I've even blocked Spawn a couple times in meme decks that just ran her as a cycle.

Most boards are fully out of early range so early dingdong's useless. Everything's powercreeped 2-3:1 bullshit in the midgame so you she can't block or protect anything. He didn't play nothing but his hand was pretty bad. Passed turn 1, turn 2 baphomet, and by turn 3 I easily removed his goblins. Like I said, I only beat spawn decks with luck right now, but AFTER the nerfs I think it's going to be a lot easier.
