Uhh no. Nobody ran Winston in triple tank and Soldier is much less popular now.

So yeah replace the Rein with Winston, the Hog/Zarya with tracer and you have a reliable dive. Not to mention that some teams prefer a Genji instead of soldier or even the occasional pharmercy combo and the fact that Zen and Mercy are a lot more popular than last season.

So yeah, replace half the team from triple tank, and have the option of flexing a few different supports and you've got yourself the same meta.

Besides the fact that roadhog, zarya and rein are completely out of the meta now, its just as diverse as triple tank (as in: it isnt) and still revolves around the same 4 core heroes.

Healers arent really a factor because theres only 4, one is in every game and one only gets run as a combo with pharah, so its basically only a choice between ana or zen if you arent runni g pharah. And if you are, its mercy lucio. No other differences.

What I meant by "what he pros do doesn't matter" was that you can get away with more hero options because teams aren't playing at peak efficiency like the pros are.

You can make pretty much any comp (within reason, obviously 6 dps won't work) work all the way up to Masters. Unless you're at GM+ the meta is only an illusion.

You don't "have" to play any hero or follow any "meta" at lower levels because players aren't at their peak efficiency, and different skill levels play a much larger role. For instance it wouldn't be more beneficial to run dive if you know you can run a different comp much better. The pros can't do that because they are all at the highest skill level and are very unlikely to be outplayed by a worse composition

Fuck, i've got a retarded monkey on my team that was a Genji main with ~44% winrate (30 loss debt) 4100 peak 3800 last season, he was effectively losing only 10 points per loss. As far as i'm aware, Sombra is still a meme hero down there, so it's easy to climb through stats farming instead of proper gameplay.

In higher ranks everyone is top tier skill level so it's a relatively even playing field. In lower ranks it can fluctuate drastically (be it mechanical skills or just not being able to play many heroes well) and one person can hard carry and one person can suck ass and throw

and that's not true, at one point bastion was meta because tracer couldn't ult him. at one point multi zenyatta, tracer, and a symmetra was a thing. every character has had their time in the sun, but blizzard wants a more balanced game. which is why they're buffing McCree and not nerfing soldier

The flex really just applies to a tanks and supports. Zen + Mercy or Lucio + Ana or whatever. Who fucking cares? You want to run one off pick DPS? Great go for it. What teams can't do and win very many games is everyone just randomly pick shit that doesn't work well together and head out.

Reinhardt/Zen/Tracer/Genji/Widow/Hanzo. Nothing about that is going to work. No one behind the shield, too little healing, snipers are mostly fucking worthless.

Teams can flex, you can run an off pick but you still need a core spine for the team made up of high impact good heroes to win in most cases.
