Either way, the only reason I play DB is that nobody else makes games of this genre. SD has zero competition. The moment somebody(competent enough) announces a new game I'll be gone. Until then, Dirty Bomb still has hope to recover and improve. The new designer seems to be an okay guy so far.

they reworked some mercs, I can't be bothered to go through all of them. Phantom's cloak now disables buildings, fragger only has 1 grenade, and there are new mercs.

All mercs are balanced around each other, so you'll have no trouble competing using the 2 free mercs. It takes about 5 days to 1 week to grind enough credits to unlock a merc, so you make the call whether the price is worth it. Since you're new, stick to Aura and try to get an SMG loadout for her.

Aura is very basic, works well in all maps and can usually top score even if you cant aim just by putting the aura station in the correct spot. Skyhammer is an ammo support so dont forget to spam 'E' to allies that need and use your airstrike on EV escort missions. His marker also works as a grenade indoors. Free mercs are on rotation and sooner or later all of them go free for a few days. After you reach a certain level, i think 6 or 7, you'll always have 50k cash so you can get who you want.

Good as in 'it works when you know what you're doing'
Arty, fragger, sawbonez, kira, aimee, fletcher, thunder, redeye

Dont forget brust rifles are death lasers (br-16 and stark) and dont be a dick to teammates. Give that ammo and revive those people when you can. Also long-jump with crouch-space while running and space to bounce off of walls

For new players I'd advise you to play the game for a while, try Skyhammer and Aura along with the characters in the free rotation (right now it's Kira, Phoenix and Proxy).
Both Skyhammer and Kira give ammo and can use airstrike abilities. Skyhammer is arguably better for new players, and his default card is equipped with the M4, which is arguably the best weapon in the game.
Aura and Phoenix are healers. They can heal their team and revive them after they've gone down. Aura can place down a healing station that stays in place until it's picked up or destroyed. She can be more useful when defending. Phoenix can heal people within a short radius of him, and he can revive himself if he goes down. He can be a little harder to play, but he is one of the easiest offensive medics you can choose.
There's always one Objective Specialist on rotation. They complete objectives faster than other mercs. This time around it's Proxy.

You don't necessarily need all of the mercs in the game, you could just go for one or more in each category:
One fire support: (Skyhammer, Arty, Kira, Stoker)
Two medics: (Aura for defending, Sawbonez, Phoenix or Sparks for attacking)
One objective specialist: (Proxy, Fletcher, Bushwhacker, Turtle) One is always on rotation.
One assault: (Fragger, Nader, Phantom, Rhino, Thunder)
One recon: (Redeye, Aimee, Vassili)

This. I have 80 hours on arty, 11 on sawbonez and 10+6 on skyhammer+aura for when i was starting out

You find a merc that you enjoy and a loadout with the weapons you like and its done basically. I own 60% of the mercs and dont intend to get any more because i know i wouldn't enjoy them as much as my main three (arty, sawbonez, nader). Also dont waste money crafting if you want to pike up, those 500 and 1000 might seem small but they run you dry pretty quickly

One would say that phantom is bad to start with because the abilities he have are not that great if I was to say someone else it would be rhino.

for guns I don't think any are bad but burst rifles are maybe the strongest atm with shotguns being the weakest due to most combat being around mid range.

Loadouts are just a cards that you can get that somes with pre-set weapons perks ( faster reload better melee damage etc) most of them don't play a huge part but some are pretty damn good.

There's a skill floor and a skill ceiling which consist of map knowledge, movement mechanics, aim, managing resources and character knowledge. It probably takes some time getting used to. If you're getting absolutely destroyed by high level players, you can play in min level 5 servers found from the server browser to play with equally new players.

Even if you removed his flashbang he'd still be powerful because of his giant HP pool and access to both a really great machine gun and the burst rifles. The flashbang can be avoided, however you can circumvent this by hitting people directly and they're basically doomed. If you surprise people, you can neuter a push by blinding them. He's a top-tier merc and basically ran wild on ranked. In ranked he's a nearly unstoppable monster from his base stats and weapons alone.

How much does movement affect your accuracy in this game? I come from a lot of counter-strike where standing still or crouching while firing is extremely important. In the tutorial for this game it said to move a lot, but should I be stopping to fire? Or can I run and gun while hip firing with no real drop in accuracy? Same with jumping, how much are my shots affected by being in the air or wall jumping? Are guns more accurate while aiming down sights? Sniper rifles?

Nowhere near as much as it does in RNG-Strike. Your bullets pretty much go where your crosshair is. You should NEVER stand still, always keep at least strafing. Walljumping into an enemy while spraying gives you some spread but most of them will hit for as long as you keep your crosshair on them. In short: moving affects jack shit, jumping affects a little.

Yes, but only a little. Try it out in comparison to firing from the hip and you'll learn the difference. Hipfiring in CQB is almost always the key to winning, in long ranges you should probably use ads.

Noscoping is really hard in this game, and comes down to luck. Only noscope if you know you can meatshot the enemy. Walking while scoped in does not affect your accuracy at all. Jumping while scoped in affects your accuracy somehow if I remember correctly.

Run and gun. If you have a long rifle dont jump unless extremely close, smgs like the hockfir barely have any spread even if you jump. Also aim at head level like you would on CS, it really pays off even if you miss more. This is also why you should NEVER stand still, at least walk while ads. If a guy on the enemy team sees you, he can drop you in half a second with headshots (see burst rifles like the stark and battle rifles like the grandeur and the dreiss)

Turn on the dynamic crosshair. You will see exactly how spread works and what has an effect on it.

Snipers are overpowered for people who can aim, and I main Vassili. According to the stats page I've also managed to hit 43.2% of all of my shots. Now I get that burst rifles deal a ton of damage when you get headshots, and I still manage to do great with the guns, but they seem to be far less reliable than assault rifles are after the burst rifle nerf, especially upon jumping. When you jump with the stark or the BR, the spread tends to go crazy. In my experience the spread does not fuck up as much with the M4 or the Timik. stay at range,hug cover anywhere you find it and dont be afraid of ADS. ofc if you're playing anything thicc like thunder its not going to work because of your massive hitbox. kira and arty work really well with the stark as you can peek and keep running into cover while dealing massive damage and dropping airstrikes. also as another anon said, they're bad at short range but if you put in a good first burst you've basically already won, kinda like a grandeur does when you headshot on the first shot. bursts are also VERY good at taking down people unaware since their reaction time wont allow them to dodge the second burst after they're hit by the first one. if the enemy is standing still this basically means a free kill with 2 burst headshots

What is the recommended scoped sensitivity scaling setting in order to achieve the same sensitivity as hip-fire? 0 feels slower and 1 is very fast. My hip fire flicks are pretty good, but when I scope in I can't flick for shit because my muscle memory fucks me up.
