As a discord member through Amazon prime (cause I'm gonna have prime anyways) who's in the discord, it just makes things better. People who want in can get in, the charge is so negligible. It cuts out the young dipshits who can't figure out how to steal mommy's card at least and in general we all get on really well in there. It's a paywall in the same way that somethingawful had a paywall and it mostly works.

That doesn't mean we're not all losers tho it's literally a haven of shitposting in most of the sections (0-insight_support_group is top tier shitposting). /dlg/ people would feel right at home desu and a lot of us share neat actually good decks.

You're right to an extent I think but to plenty of players, it's not always clear precisely what cards of what archetype are going to be good for them. Pretty much everyone is aware now that Red Eyes decks and Mako decks are top tier right now but a more casual player who doesn't want to research but wants to climb can stay relatively on board with the cutting edge in the discord and, if they're so casual that they don't have the cards, plenty of us will prob have decent substitutions.

Deck building I wish were more varied but since OTC and Econ and SRH are so fuckin good, most decks look the same. I'd say that's a legitimate gripe and one of the biggest issues of the game. Everything is super homogenized at high tier gameplay that it's repetitive and predictable. My Red-Eyes deck for example is going to fall fast because I got no insights. We're developing anti-red eyes decks right now tho so hopefully those end up being pretty fun. Garlandolf may have potential.

You're in for a huge grind and you've already missed character unlock events and the key cards they dropped.

That said, you can still do ok in pvp by using a modified structure deck (GET THE DRAGON ONE). Once you have a good understanding of how the game works you should be able to reach Gold. If you get 30 wins in ranked you'll have a chance to use the SR ticket on an Enemy Controller, which is probably the best card in the game.

Plus peak performance is the first skill you get if you chose Kaiba.
