I don't mean any ill will here. RK looks really strange to me. There is something really off about it's UI and it's menus. It doesn't feel like an official game. It feels like a fan creation. It looks really lazy. All the sprites of FF characters that never had sprites looks really really bad to me. Especially Noctis.

If you grew up with it, it might be tougher to spot problems with it. I like really detailed sprites too, and thought that BE looked amazing in screenshots. The lack of decent animation kind of killed that part of the enjoyment for me, though.

There's only so much you can do when dealing with such a small area. That being said, the soul breaks can be pretty creative, and the animated bosses look pretty good, so it evens out a bit.

Mastered regular Apoc first try
Was worried about the dispel but he changed forms (thus reset the counter) kinda fast. Only got dispelled once near the end after I was finished charging SBs. I put multi break and MBD dance on tyro, dunno if dances count towards the counter but it seemed ok. Armor breakdown and wrath on ramza, icicle shot and wrath on fran, for the ice medal condition

My big issue with RK is what the gasha is.

You pull for relics and I think that's a bad way to go about. You can get the character you like easy, say Squall, but you might never ever get the relics to complete him.

As opposed to other gasha games, the gasha is the character and once you have them - you can usually complete the character.

Spending mythril to get weapons for characters you just don't care about is very depressing and feels worse than just getting random characters. At least to me.

In RK I can use any character I want. They might be a lot shittier without their relics, but I can still put them on my team and use them in some content. In character-based gachas you might never even get the character and never even have the option to use them.

Even a "bad" character in RK can still be very usable if you pull the relic for them, where in BE I have many characters I like that I can't even use because they are a trash base 3* and no amount of equipment or upgrading will make them even slightly usable.

Once you get bursts period, those will be the characters you take to level 99. Super soul breaks tend to become situational in the late game (though are handy for Cid Missions where you are using parties of characters that are all from the same realm), the only one I have that I use anymore is Ramza's Shout. Oh wait, I use Seymour's SSB and Vincent's SSB to enelement them since their particular bursts don't enelement by themselves.
Wakka's SSB is one of those ones that won't see any use late game, it doesn't deal elemental damage so it can't hit weaknesses and it inflicts status ailments that most bosses are immune to.

I don't think it's necessarily that bad. For the record I'm a BE player and could never really get into RK after trying a few times, but character based gachas have their own problems too.

For BE specifically, the problems with trying to get characters you want are that some of them are just utter shit and can never really be used for any difficult content, and if they ARE good a lot of the time they're locked behind a 5* base which is exceedingly difficult to pull. In RK, you can use basically any character for most content even if you don't have their relics, and there are only a handful who are complete shit.

On the other hand, I like how in BE once you get a character they come prepackaged with a set of cohesive abilities thematic to themselves, I'm not really a fan of synthesizing abilities in RK and how their bursts are the only unique thing about each character. And although I'm being very biased I do think getting that character you really wanted is way more satisfying that getting a relic.

BE's problem is psudo solved in JP. where the gacha is nicer and JP just throws you 5* more than GL where you only get them once in a blue moon. Also, more older characters are viable because enhancements are a lot more consistent. RK is a different game. In the end you're pulling for viability regardless of how you look at it.

The thing that annoys me about FFRK is that there's almost zero depth to the way you build a character. It's 'did you pull this relic or not' combined with two associated abilities.

I understand that it's more focused around team design but I like that in other games if you really like a character you can optimize them outside of the typical gacha mechanics.

Changing an Excalibur out for a Shadowblade is legitimately the same as changing a 5* Spellblade of a certain element to a 5* spellblade of another element.
Changing Large Sword Mastery out for whatever other Mastery you might switch to when switching weapons is the same as changing the materia slot in RK.
Armor and majority of materia slots in BE will always be BIS and should be built towards, the only exception being when you need A) a specific element, or B) Status immunity. Which is basically the same in RK.

I was thinking about making vaan a knight/bushi because I heard thats a really strong combo, only issue with this is then I havw two knights and Im not sure if this is redundant or not

It's entirely around optimizing your team comp, while FFBE is about both the macro of team-comp and micro of individual units.

Black Mage and Bushi is a fantastic combo. Bushi has a lot of built in magic damage and black mage helps extend that. Ashe also has amazing animations for katanas.

Black Mage and Red Mage has the highest possible magic damage if that's your thing however.

White Mage and Monk is a good choice. It let's you do a lot of physical damage with rods and retain the heals. Knight is another good choice to become supremely tanky while healing.

Breaker is good with Shikari you'll get every break ability and access to the strongest weapons for the two meme bosses.

But these are just ideas. I can't comment on them all.

I actually enjoy macroing. It's nice to just sit back during downtime and slowly get more powerful / prepare for harder encounters.

I got really tired of FFRK and having to be more active in terms of grinding. That and there aren't very many high-end fights that are fun nowadays with how much I hate the way they implemented ATB. I got so tired of having to save and quit because my ATB started too low and a character got completely punked at the start of a fight.

Funny thing is, I do too.

I never have to worry about burning off stamina because I can just fire up Nox and hit the macro button to do it for me. I also enjoy looking forward to that next hit of TMR that makes my characters that extra bit stronger (or provides more options).

RK I just kind of play super casually and inefficiently, only touching it when I feel like it. Kind of annoying when I run into fights that just completely wall me off, but on the flip side I've had some fun ones too.

Weird team to use for mastery, but fuck it. Mustadio, Y'shtola, and OK have bursts (and wall for Y'sh). Minfilia and Celes are working with their SSBs only, but oh well. Flare Strike was surprisingly more effective than I thought, but it can wait to get past rank 1 until the ability update, maybe.

I'm also confused, I feel like anything goes. People always have their idea of the strongest combos...like Red Mage/Archer or Bushi/Knight but seriously...I have seen SO MANY different people with SO MANY different combos that it's mostly about personal preference. White Mage can't be that bad because it heals. It works well with people who can do other stuff sure but it has the spells to do it's job no matter what it is linked to.
