Reapers or Skirmishers? Vote now

First for Valhen did nothing wrong.
>>
>>182857847
Reapers look like their gonna be more fun but skirmishes are gonna be better.

I'm calling it
>>
>>182857847
Don't make me choose, they both look incredible in their own way.

Skirmisher is going to be a fantastic frontline troop for your battle-line to hinge around, and Reapers are going to be the replacement to a concealment ranger, doing everything they do but better, with a lot of new tricks (Your only trade off is losing the high damage of the shotgun and the sword) for assassinating enemies/groups of enemies and remaining in concealment.
>>
>>182857803

Although in terms of lore/aesthetics etc, Skirmishers ALL the way. I've been using Jsleezy's repurposed vanilla stuff to create my own Advent defectors/defects since it came out, as it is an idea I love.
>>
>>182857847
Skirmishers. The idea of liberated ADVENT defectors teaming up with XCOM tickles me in all the right places. I don't care if they're the worst or least interesting mechanically of the three hero units, they're getting all my focus.
>>
>>182858156

>>
>>182858156
This is also a good explanation, I also like how the skirmishers have to fight extra harder to prove that they're not puppets anymore and that they have to kill their brother and sister even though given a choice wouldn't be fighting for the Elders. Templars should have a cooler lore, DAMN IT JAKE RELASE THE INSIDE LOOK

If you look closely at Mox's face, you can sort of see that his sectoid face has been grafted onto him, so I would think that everything else is pretty normal so if his face alteration is that crude.
>>
>>182866183
This, though it isn't like they wouldn't have access to a gene therapy to try to get that back in. I would think that would be a priority for any rights activists that would want them on an equal footing to humanity, especially for their service in helping to win the war.

It would really all depend on if they feel like it is even their place. Their bodies were created from the remains of hundreds of thousands of humans, they might feel like they could never have that right and just want to live to ensure that humanity gets their planet back.

Man, there is a pretty interesting story to tell with these guys. I can't wait to get them in game and get a feel for them. Mox seemed so bro tier. I want to hear about his time in Advent, if he was conscious during the time he had the chip, or if it's like being in a haze from the data feed.
>>
>>182866678
I suspect that he's one of the first gen, since the Reapers talk like he was well known. Process for making them wasn't that good yet, so it involved a lot of graphing and conditioning. Not to mention the Chip implantation. Oh man, I forgot to look and see if he has the same Scar that Tygan has.
>>
>>182866678
Without meaning to sound rude, I have some objections. Firstly, the face grafting doesn't need to be sophisticated; their helmets, Tygan notes, are designed to make seeing inhuman features virtually impossible, so whilst they can afford a hack-job there it doesn't mean they haven't either been physically sterilised (Hysterectomy or Castration) or more likely mentally sterilised (their drive to reproduce removed by altering their brain structure either genetically, surgically, or chemically). I would be surprised if the Elders would want, even by accident, for ADVENT troops to reproduce. They seem like right regular control freaks to me.

I respectfully disagree also that that is necessarily a skin graft at all. Although the skin tone is a of a separate colour to parts of his cranium, you can also see a Deus Ex CASIE-style line of metallic circles, which indicate that instead he's had augmentations implanted into him. From what Elena says in what we have seen of Lost and Abandoned, Mox was once a successful ADVENT officer, so perhaps he was an earlier model of officer with a different make-up or training, or simply augmented differently to his companions. I will admit, it has piqued my curiosity that the tone difference should be so pronounced.
>>
>>182866678

The scarring/modifications on his face was something he did to distinguish himself from his fellow Skirmishers. They are clones so they all share the same "face."
>>
>>182867639
>clones
>having the exact same face
That doesn't make sense.

Retoasting for ScoutAnon

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=974478357

It's finished, normally i'd write something long here but i just got done writing a book for the mod's description(fun fact, there's a limit of 8k characters in the mod description). And if you have been keeping up you already know what the deal is.

tl;dr: 2 new aliens with 4 variants each, plasma weapons for advent, new weapon type for Xcom complete with the 3 tech tiers, Proximity stun mine, some doohickey scanner that gives flanking bonuses(and mobility for the one you get from the T4 Advent), a vest that gives 3 mobility(so you can go super fast with an SMG) and more!(disclaimer: there's nothing more).
>>
>>182867391
Maybe because it was still early and they couldn't ramp up production without mass abductions and were using the humans they had already managed to abduct during the war, it was better to try to save Advent when they were wounded. Maybe Mox got a severe head wound that needed a skin graph?

Later, once they had the forge up and running, pumping out Advent would be easy, so they wouldn't have to worry about trying to save him.
>>
>>182867801
It is not inconceivable - such a wound could go some way to explaining his rebelliousness. Someone had to be the first to discover a device or method to remove ADVENT chips, and it predates Tygan's defection (otherwise he wouldn't have been able to remove it). It wouldn't be Mox, but he certainly would have been difficult to persuade towards the Skirmishers if he still had it operating at full function. Perhaps he was recovered like other Skirmishers - injured in action and then dechipped?

Likewise, Mox may have been considered a valuable enough asset that saving him was worthwhile. In which case, the skin graft could be explained again in terms of injury.

Total global surveillance is harder then you think. Even for a super advanced race. It requires infrastructure and Satellite surveillance requires a lot of them, as we know from EU and it's not perfect. Council man also would have a hand in making sure that your flight plans were going through blind spots, which is why you can only get to certain places on the globe from other locations.

Advent themselves also barely go outside the city centers, so not a lot of chance for the Avenger to run into them just flying around and also why UFOs directly hunting the Avenger have to try to find it.

Well, also remember that UFOs (and the Avenger is an old supply ship) have some kind of stealth that made them an absolute bitch to detect, plus they do seem to use UFOs on Earth in a limited capacity, maybe part of that is the Avenger getting "legit" transponder/IFF codes from the resistance every month and only in the Dark Event of the UFO hunt or the Chosen tracking you down do ADVENT dedicate themselves to figuring out what isn't legitimate.

Plus, the majority of the time the Avenger is grounded away from Advents zone of control

And on an interesting note, from Mox's introduction, where he shoves his ripjack into the Purifier's chin, it appears the ripjack can act as a poor man's skulljack for Skirmishers to interface with the psionic network, as his eyes go twitchy (and glow a lot more) and his voice takes on a different timbre whilst he discerns the purpose of the Purifiers being in the area, working out that Advent doesn't know about the meeting.

Probably not. That's what I thought too, but WOTC's big cutscene implies the dark force will be behind the TFTD enemies, instead of them being an offshoot of the main alien invasion.

Not necessarily - they could go for the route where it's small expeditions instead of outright interstellar campaigning, after all, no matter what you do the XCOM series is always going to be about small-ish squads as opposed to whole military battles, so them exploring the cosmos on a single expeditionary ship avenger-style would make sense. Hell, the first interstellar space program would be idiotic to NOT bring weapons and the means to adapt to threats after everything Earth's went through.

>>
>>182888626
>I'm hoping Firaxis does the right
You already know that's not going to happen, they're been going for goofy pulpiness and silly shit ever since EU came out. If you really need proof of this look at the original XCOM FPS announcement, where they replaced the silly aliens of the previous games with freaky geometric forces kinda reminiscent of NGE angels, only to immediately shift back into pulp sci fi for EU after the overwhelming negative response - to the point even the Bureau, which was going to be what remained from that FPS, shifted to classic sci-fi as well.

This franchise really isn't for you if you can't ignore the story/environ in favor of mechanics and also can't stand it being silly, purposefully cliche Sci-Fi.
>>
>>182888626
Everything about XCOM is governed by the rule of cool. If this upsets you that much, you should just ignore the game story and world completely and focus on the mechanics. You will ltierally never, ever get what you want.

It would be pretty cool if the aliens put an energy or science facility inside a volcano. Maybe not for generic missions though.
>>
Now we have people whining about the devs not having missions in volcanoes and icebergs and the La Brea Tar Pits and at the same time whining about not liking "weird places".

No fandom in the history of mankind knows what it wants and will be hypocritical for the sake of it while still demanding things then complaining when they get them.
>>
>>182889659
>Rule of cool isn't rule of goofy wacky stuff.
Then the rule of goofy, wacky stuff is staying, because there's legitimately nothing to indicate they're shifting from this style whatsoever. Already discounting how complaints about the story/world are microscopic among the general criticism of the franchise as opposed to criticism of the mechanical aspect, complaining about the goofy stuff isn't part of even the majority of those. Firaxis has literally no reason to suddenly change it since you, overall, have one of the smallest viewpoints in the entire consumer base for the franchise, and nothing's suggested Jake is getting kicked out of the series director chair at all.

Just let it go, dude.

How can we wait 6 weeks? How??

As hyped as I am for this expansion I can't help but feel a pang of apprehension also. I was about as hyped for vanilla X2's release but I had so many problems at launch. Initially it wouldn't start at all, my profile would go green after the launcher then just go back to blue and never go any further. Eventually it got shadow fixed by a patch and I could play, but I've never felt so let down by a game. My concern is whether WOTC would truly have its performance problems sorted out or whether I'll run into similar issues at launch again. But I'm still going to preorder because I'm the truest goyim.

That said, I really hope my favourite cosmetic mods can be brought over easily like Symmetrical Kevlar Arms and Capn Bub's Accessories Pack (considering he's gone fucking AWOL since joining Pavonis) so I can keep my character pool looking consistent with how I designed them

Does anyone know if Pavonis are ever going to update the Long War Perk Pack to reflect the version in LW2? I also hope that makes it across to WOTC since I don't look forward to having two perk trees again, unless there's been a new development I'm unaware of

Do you refer to >>182888268 and >>182891268 ? I wasn't saying that I think it should always be a super-crazy partyhouse, I was simply saying that in my jaded view that it's probably going to keep shifting that way, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem, since the heart of the series is the mechanics, not the story-excuses for them. Still a bit sad about how borderline-anime everything's getting though.

Not to mention WotC feels anime.

Mechanics are all that matter anyways. Apparently lategame enemies are getting severely buffed, but given all our new toys I also bet it won't get much harder either. The Chosen can shake things up with how they can become immune to the meta via their strengths, but alas, you can permanently kill them. I bet all of us will eventually get to a point we let them live so they add to the challenge as the game goes on.
>>
>>182899113
I actually expect them to be even more of a push over. A Reaper with a maxed out vector rifle with some breakthroughs to increase it's damage, with a superior expanded magazine can dump 6 shots into one of those in a single action. With Bluescreen rounds, that is going to be insane damage.

If any alien deserves a buff, it's the archon. Needs armor and more health, other wise they are just way too easy to deal with.

I mean Sergeant is only the third rank. This one also takes place after the Lost & Abandoned mission, so it's possible that the other two need a sergant rank soldier to recruit them normally, WITHOUT that mission enabled. They might honestly be kind of weak AT FIRST, since the only have melee and an automatic pistol, but they have the bonus of being able to move again after a melee attack no matter what.

I think they will, but they have a large ramp up time. So while they are gathering Focus, they won't be doing much, but once you have it, they will just decimate everything. Reaper seem very burst and done, with various abilities that allow them to remain as your scout while still contributing, but outside of that seem kind of underwhelming. While Skirmishers seem like reliable DPS that just get better when faced with a larger group, only held back by their ammo.

Having one of each for the final mission will probably be one of the best feelings in the game, but very hard to get all of them to max.

Remote Start allows Reapers to detonate explodable things for double damage and double radius.

Sting is an ability that allows them to empty every bullet in their magazine at a single target for increased damage, scaled by how many are left. So probably increases with extended mags.

Reapers are going to p. terrifying desu.

That is why I said they are a burst and done. Remote Start is amazing, but situational, not good for things like the final mission where there might not even be explosives. Sting is incredible, but you can bet it will have a long cooldown.

Reapers will be at their best when you have missions where you can take your time, or have lots of explosives or people that can make use of their claymore effectively. Heavy offensive missions they would pretty much just be your scout.

But that's pretty much what I had the Rogue class for and he was stupid powerful with even an SMG. Fucking 20 damage crits, I swear to god that class was broken.

>>

yea but each covert action weve seen so far has taken 8+ days. easy to get, but takes time. getting two at once bypasses this.
>>
>>182904253

>>
>>182904102
Yeah, if you look at the one to contact the Templars, a Templar hero is your reward for doing so.

So it seems that contacting a faction is all you need to do to get your first hero. It is subsequent ones who are apparently a lot harder to get.
>>
>>182904274
>Staffing an Engineer that early in the game.

Ehh. Usually you're rushing radios or AWC during that time.

What does sending a scientist do on these new missions?
>>
>>182904426
Though I think Jake said that you will get a mission right away for a replacement if you manage to get them killed, so at least that's good.
>>
>>182904574
AWC was split into three.

Support staff that can mitigate some things like ambush or wound chance.
>>
>>182904846

So... we're getting 3 new rooms from this expansion, counting the Infirmary that the AWC becomes. Current base builds if I want to build everything leave no space left, and I still have to gain a few additional resistance comms slots from scanning events on the map to be able to contact everyone.

I know someone will say "but anon you must choose what to build now", but we all know that's bullshit and turret control is going to now be completely forgotten about (because you'll need the space, and it's not that helpful anyway), there will be no reason to build laboratories (not like they were that useful, at least in vanilla) and will have to scrap your workshop once you secure enough engineers if you want to have all the mandatory rooms. Why didn't Jake give us more building slots again?
>>
>>182905501
There are resistance rewards that give contacts, and I'm sure I saw a permanent increase as a reward from a covert op, so I think 1 Res Comms is the way to go from now on.

And why didn't Jake give you more building slots? I guess so you'd actually have to make some decisions, anon.
>>
>>182905501
Because they'd have to redesign the avenger entirely to fit in more rooms. Workshops are still useful if you send engineers out on covert missions or staff them in buildings.

Could've reused space, there's a room to the left of engineering that Shen uses for testing weapons that literally only sees that one use, and it has about the right dimensions to be able to host a buildable room.

Meanwhile workshops are useful in the early game only, and will be scrapped for space later probably, labs and turrets remain poor.

Just fyi, this is the kind of stuff that is to be expected when i said "not compatible with alien mod x y and z" it works, they show up and all, and i assume you also see aliens from other mods show up.

But weird things can happen where they will spawn more often than intended or left often and so on, this is a stab in the dark but i'm going to blindly assume that ABA2 makes it so that the standard trooper and officer spawn less so you see more of the ABA2 aliens, well, my Pathfinders have virtually the same spawn weights as troopers and officers, which means that you'll likely see a lot of them. Apparently this is what happens if you run it with LW2, people in the comments section that are running it with LW2 report that they spawn in really high numbers.

The only actual bug that has cropped up(besides a missing icon in the magnetic hunter rifle) is that apparently if you load them in an existing save things get messy and things unlock instantaneously, which i'm trying to fix now.

Not scout anon but if I'm reading the code right you don't need to worry about the new items dropping, their loot tables are effected by mods but they new items drop on every kill past t2 and aren't tied to timed loot. Which would make it rather hard to get thier items on LW2 due to evac missions being a primary thing

I think the anon was worried that the items required for research and crafting items wouldn't drop if they had mods that effect loot drops (i.e grimy's) but the items required for the research/crafting are base loot (i.e corpses) and not timed loot so they should drop regardless.

But will have as much space as Bradford's gun?
>>
>>182916609
Don't forget, we see ADVENT without their helmets on in the game proper - they aren't grafted, they're seamlessly integrated with the flesh. Tygan also muses that their large eyes are basically useless, implying that the elders couldn't figure out a way to make them without the sectoid heads. It's a "natural" thing, or, well as natural as you can be for ADVENT hybrids - therefore the Elders don't paste them on for whatever reason.

No Dadford is a pure bred American and therefore will always have the most mods.

What if Vahlen was the first to teach the Skirmishers how to remove their chips?
>>
>>182916780
As someone suggested before, Mox and many of the other Skirmishers may well be first generation hybrids, from a time when the process was much less refined, when grafts etc were involved because the genetic mix wasn't perfected.

Basically something the Elders rushed out the door to make sure that they could say they were so benevolent that 'humans' had signed up to be their police/military.

I still doubt their boltage is a natural part of their body. Plus it'd kind of undermine the whole point of the Skirmishers if they were only an elite, old force instead of any ADVENT being able to become one with the chip-extraction. It's possible, I'd just prefer it to be canon that ADVENT soldiers would all be ultra-badasses if their freedom wasn't stolen by the Elders' evil.
>>
>>182917357
>Plus it'd kind of undermine the whole point of the Skirmishers if they were only an elite, old force instead of any ADVENT being able to become one with the chip-extraction. It's possible, I'd just prefer it to be canon that ADVENT soldiers would all be ultra-badasses if their freedom wasn't stolen by the Elders' evil.
It also doesn't make sense since one of their Resistance Orders implies that they either have an infiltrator in the ADVENT soldiers' ranks or that they removed the chip from one of them before the mission - it makes it so one ADVENT soldier (any type) in the map is actually on your side, and will reveal itself as such when you activate its pod.
>>
>>182917357
My point rather was that older ADVENT forces are the longest in service, so are the most likely to have had accidents that removed/severed their connection to the chip. Maybe even their chip implantations were rushed or easier to undo.

I'm sure new ADVENT can be severed, it might just be a trickier process. In fact, we know they can, because that is the substance of the Defectors order that the Skirmishers can grant you, they de-chip a current Advent and use him as a sleeper agent who joins you in a mission.

Same, I'd like at least some confirmation post-mission that they were brought to the Skirmishers in general post-mission even though we can't keep them.

>>182917762
Oh, then I agree completely. It's very possible they're an older force, at least the hero units with their presumable years of experience you get from them. I personally think that the scars are to make themselves seem individualized.
>>
>>182917991
Dadford describes it as a very brutal process, and to not ask him for the details. Considering he's talking to someone who was de-chipped the surgical way, we can infer it is worse.
>>
>>182917991
Brad the Dad literally describes it as an extremely brutal process and also says they 'somehow' did it. He was there for the Commander getting de-chipped, so odds are it's something different.

He also says he'll "spare you the details," which also implies it's a different method.

Does anybody have a higher quality screenshot of the look we get at the back of Mox's head in the Lost & Abandoned mission, because that's something we get to see. If there's scarring, that's how it was removed, if there's not, odds are that's why Mox's face was taken off then grafted back on. I think there might be scarring but the Skirmisher Inside Look's quality is too hard to tell even on 1080p.

Got XCOM 2 a few months ago during the sale with the DLC and uh

is the AH DLC just super shitty? With it on you get urged to do the DLC missions immediately with no real warning for the huge handicap you're going to get for the rest of the campaign. Initially I did the DLC mission with all conventional weapons and basically got shit on whenever VK popped into a mission.

Now that I'm more used to dealing with them it seems like once you start the DLC you're just required to bring flashbang, sources of poison/burning and the freeze grenade with you on every mission just in case a boss appears to shit on your mission timer. Not only that but if you don't play with the DLC "on" you just get the bosses showing up randomly with no control whatsoever as to when you want to trigger them.

The bosses just seem to totally fuck up the early game and in exchange you get one (1) special rifle, axe, pistol and grenade. Are these tools actually powerful enough to justify the boss difficulty? Of course they're designed to fight them specifically but my timers get trashed when they show up early.

So I'm guessing that is what the Ethereals are running away from. They drank from whatever eldritch force to gain their psionic powers but some failed to ascend. Now it's on their asses and they can't stop it.

It reminds me of the Shroud in Stellaris. You reach Psionic ascension for your species and you gain access to the psionic realm. Eventually you get an offer from some creature within which gives you a fuckton of bonuses for I think 50 years. After that point all of your planets go barren and everyone turns on you as a giant fuck you destructive army appears and destroys the universe.

>>182923434
This is true. I just find his age compared to the others jarring, especially as it's implied they're lab-made. If he's genuinely older, that's cool too. It'd probably have a lore excuse too - Ethereals would want to try and hybridize humans and themselves for the purpose of Psionics way earlier. ( I doubt the chosen are an alien species, because if they were the Ethereals would have no reason to want humans to make their new bodies so much.)
>>
>>182919360
I think the Ethereal was referring to the commander.

This lends a lot of credence to the theory the commander is an ethereal incarnated as a human.

Interestingly enough i get the exact opposite vibe, the way they act makes me think that they are pretty old servants of the Chosen, especially because of how fanatic the Warlock is and the Hunter's comments like "i thought you were the strongest" it almost sounds like they were recruited into service.

We'll just have to wait and see i suppose, the only thing that makes me doubt that they are old is that they have PSI, and if they were a race with psi by nature then we'd have seen them before and there would be more of them, of course if they just got upgraded with gene tampering or something then it'd make sense too. Or maybe they get their minds transferred into new bodies just like the Elders planned to do with Avatars, and the Chosen just have sloppy seconds.

I dunno.

I did that with a pair of dudes in one of my original X2 campaigns. Matt and Jake Solomon (yeah, for real). Jake died just before Waterworld and I changed Matt's bio accordingly. Matt has survived many a subsequent campaign, but never did Jake return to fight by his brother's side again.

I also have Sergei and Mikhail Goluchev, who are Big and Little Wolf. I don't recruit them often, but they show up from time to time. So far, Sergei has died once and Mikhail has died twice. They aren't in my current campaign though, it's the All Power Armor campaign and they don't wear powered armor.

Non ironman but never reloading saves is god tier. If you get bullshitted don't reload, if you get outplayed because a sectoid was in one tile of fog you didn't see and it broke concealment and now your fucked don't reload. If you missclicked or a glitch happened then reload.

New players should reload sparsely, just to get used to everything. And defiantly put it on the lower difficulties this isn't the type of games you can jump in with no experience on hard

Honestly doing ironman just saves me having to actually save, but i bet everything on having no glicthes and the save not corrupting

This appeared to just happen on the mission I first encountered them on and I've had quite a few missions where they have spawned mixed with ABA2 variants. I doubt it will happen but if they spawn with a variant as a pod leader I'll note it in the thread

To be fair we haven't had a good monster scifi movie in awhile, I welcome Zygote.

Rakka was good, but the pacing was pieced together terribly. It didn't help Weaver was narrating throughout the entire movie. While Zygote actually felt like a good small movie, Rakka felt like an opening or teaser to one. It never reached that "Holy fuck" point.

Firebase was alright, but it is literally too out there for the mainstream. Not to mention it just does not make sense. Hey a man was stricken so much with grief he turned into a demigod. Like wtf. Zygote, a madman made a monster and in Rakka humanity gets enslaved by aliens. Those are believable. Firebase is not.

No it started because preorders are actually a terrible practice and you are derailing it to the old "poorfag" argument. Why would anyone pay for an unfinished product and live off of an intangible promises. Only reason it derailed into it was because you actually spend 40 bucks on takeout like an irresponsible child.

What is even more ridiculous is that you are bragging about getting ladies on a goddamn xcom general. That is the sad part. You make dumb monetary decisions and then bring something completely unrelated into the conversation like the stupid hipsterfag you are.

Guess what I also have an extremely good programming job, both financial and workload, and am physically fit and I don't eat your stupid overpriced food. Sectoids: Good support and harriers. Spamming zombies to draw away fire from my men while panicking entire squads as they become more powerful, suppression with plasma fire while their psi-abilities are on cooldown & dat sweet sweet dominate.

Archon: LOS abusing melee monster that can nuke whole sections of the map or using them vanguard overwatchers from the tops of any buildings or elevations they can find.

Muton: Slow but very solid soldiers without much flexibility which is the reason i normally train them as officers or give them a speed PCS or item which can make them reasonably good infantry & can tank damage like champions if given plating and vests (getting fleche from AWC though normally makes them goddamned monsters)

Andromedons: They're so fucking slow. Actually pretty good combatants, loads of heath & the acid AOE blob of denial is pretty fantastic but man you'll want to speed them up however possible.

MECS: Arguably this is what the devs should have made sparks be. Better for drawing fire than actual combat loading these bastards up with chitan plating & a tac vest is just the best as a whole pod of advent might not even chip half of the MEC's health.

It's an expansion, and it's finished. The risk for pre-ordering is approximately zero
>day one bugs
Irrelevant, since the major onse will be squashed in two weeks max, and two weeks later you won't be able to purchase the expansion for any cheaper than you can now.
If someone wants to play the new expansion that everyone is hyped for, seems pretty reasonable to me.

Pre-ordering a new IP is dumb. Pre-ordering from an unreliable dev is dumb. Pre-ording expansion content from a trusted dev when early copies have already gone out and we know most of the details and we've already seen gameplay is a pretty reasonable thing to do.
It's a pretty simple decision:
>Would anything change my mind from picking up this item, and would I be willing to wait for a discounted/sale price?
If the answer is no, yeah, I pre-order.

Also waiting 6 months to play something is really missing out on a lot of fun. There is a price to be paid for waiting to pick something up, it is not only benefits.

>except there is no benefit in actually preordering it while the risks are still there

I kinda did give a good argument
>>
>>182982259
>I am saying that people should wait to see the opinions and reviews on the day it is released to decided wheter to buy it or not.

Most reviews go out before release.

I mentioned six months because that's generally the time necessary to mitigate most "risks" with buying a game. I don't know why you think there's any difference between buying day 1 and preordering.

It will cost the same amount or even more. There will not have been enough digestion of the content by the general community to reach a consensus. Any bugs the game has will not be patched out.
>>
>>182983369
>>I kinda did give a good argument
But what risks? You just say "risks," but what risk would make me regret my purchase? It would have to be something huge, and something not really possible at this point.

Codex: Unsurprisingly they make good scouts with their teleport ability & i use them in a sort of flanking based ranger role. Fragile-ish for an alien their panic button teleport will end up saving them most of the time but don't get too agressive with them. Also psybomb all day evvryday. Bonus points: They make fantastic medics

Snek: Quick as hell and are hit & runners OR overwatchers. If you're more of a fan of a slow approach their abilities to become overwatch queens is pretty rewarding while accompanying your soldiers especially the squishy ones.

'lids: Hit and run melee monsters that at max rank eat an entire squad of advent with reaper.

Sectopod: Aside from model/elevation fuckery there are no downsides. If you get your sectopod killed it's just your fault for somehow not using the equivalent of a martian tripod to annihilate ayys. Wrath cannon is worthless as enemies simply move out of the way & lightning field is ok but situational so just stand tall, boxy & proud & rain down death from above.

Gatekeeper: They make good tanks, big scary primary & a cooldown ability to spawn hordes of zombies. A win win.

Bersekers: I have the least experience with them but their insane movement makes them admittedly perfect scouts & can be used as one hell of a distraction especially considering their gigantic health pool (that can still be healed with all types of medkits) and they can single out high priority targets that usually are killed outright or stunned for 1-2 turns.

>Most reviews go out before release.
Like a few days before the release so pretty much a day 1 purchase at that point. Also lets talk about how trustable Game reviewers are too...
>I mentioned six months because that's generally the time necessary to mitigate most "risks" with buying a game. I don't know why you think there's any difference between buying day 1 and preordering.
I have no idea which asshole you pulled this number from but waiting 6 months is just waiting for a discount. Waiting till the game is released will give you time to look at the reviews and determining wheter or not to get the game.
>It will cost the same amount or even more
.... I can assure you it will not cost more...
>But what risks? You just say "risks," but what risk would make me regret my purchase? It would have to be something huge, and something not really possible at this point.
I am also saying that compared to buying it on day one after getting reviews and opinions of others is better than actually buying an unfinished game with just "promises". Anything can go wrong. How is this such a difficult concept to understand or is this too much to think about?

This is pathetic.

desu senpai I preordered because who the fuck knows if price isn't going to increase more before the final day comes. It already increased once probably as a response to da hype.

Also, I want it on day 1 anyway, bugs and crashes be damned.

Keysites like GMG and Humblebundle have preorder discounts that you will not see on a newly-released game. I mean, if you care to own it "legitimately." As many have mentioned, you can get WOTC 25% off currently.

What rationale do you folks go through before fielding ayys against ADVENT? Reprogramming? Willing volunteers? Brainwashing?

What is it about rookies that make them miss 89% shots 100% of the time?

Yes, seriously. I just checked steamdb to see if I can get proof, but it disproved my argument.
>>
>>182985221
Different aliens get different methods, like Mutons are brainwashing, Cryssalids/Vipers are raised from eggs and MECs are obviously reprogrammed.

>>182985221
You can either rescue them from a cell or build/clone/reprogram/brainwash them in the Proving Grounds. With the former I just decided "They decided to rebel against the Elders" for the organic aliens, and "Fucking lighting hit them and they gained sapience or something" for the robot and Codex.

How fucking long has this been a thing for?
>>
>>182990210
Since release. Don't worry, they never talked about it, it is extremely obscure.
>>
>>182989965
Remember that a 30% shot still has a one in three chance of hitting. That's not hugely unlikely. It's just that most human players, when faced with those sorts of odds, will hunter down, overwatch, or use a grenade instead. The AI takes low-percentage shots a lot more often, so consequently gets more hits.
>>
>>182990342
That's also why I downloaded EU aim rolls, since taking low percentage shots with a minor chance to crit favors advent far more than it favors the player
>>
>>182982259
>people should wait to see the opinions and reviews

LOL fuck no. Use your own brain to decide.
>>
>>182990342
This is a hard red pill to swallow
>>
>>182991010
Evaluating peoples opinions and reviews doesn't mean switching off your brain and accepting everything they say at face value.
A review from Beagle would be very valuable *for example), because even if he doesn't like it, I know how Beagle thinks, and would be able to extrapolate from his opinion/review on whether I would like it or not pretty accurately.

Good, what did you learn? What did you do to get those two soldiers killed? Going ironman should be teaching you stop doing certain actions because you get punised. It will be the crucible which makes you a better player.

a 15% to crit should be a 15% to crit not fucking 50%

Faceless gave my other ranger the Claw killing her AND the Civvie next to her that decided to stick around.
>>
>>182993530
You got to treat all civvies like a potential faceless and if you end your turn within a move+attack range of one you need to have the overwatch to kill it. You do get some extra supply by saving more civs than needed, but its still better to go slow at the early tiers.
