Personally I hope that this year's evo's lower numbers for almost everything is the beginning of a decline for e-sports at least in regards for fighting games. I'm not opposed to tournaments nor watching high level matches to see who is the best or whatever, but I really hate that people play games for the money or "fame". Even a rep from echofox has said they recruit/sponsor people based on the games where the money is at (not necessarily his fault since that's his job/orders from higher ups I guess). I know not all players are like that, but a huge number of them are. Xiaohai has said that he'd play KoF no matter what and I know that there are others like him whe feel the same about KoF or their respective games. It's why I was not necessarily opposed to SNK/Atlus announcing the pot bonus until after signups were done since one way of seeing it is SNK rewarding those who play KoF no matter what. I mean before the $14K were announced the pot was like $3K or something like that since the total is $17k+. If one played a game for money why the fuck would they bother with a game that rewarded like 3K when other games at the same event offered magnitudes more? When Layec asked evo to reopen registration because more people wanted to sign up because of the cash I just thought tough luck for those people. That wasn't the case with him since he had already signed up long before the money was announced.
Games should be played because people like them/for fun. The whole making money aspect really leaves a sour taste, I think, but since that's the in thing right now that's an additional thing companies may have to worry about when making their games. Either way enough of that since we've beaten this horse to death in this thread and even people on fucking /v/ are starting to see e-sports' bull in threads about other games. It may be because I'm an SNK fan, but those who played KoF today during evo at least seem to genuinely enjoy the game.

Despite writing that post I can take everything in stride and I though the commentary was done decently well, except the stream being relatively really fucking short and the lack of coverage from the evo twitter, It doesn't feel quite right. Still that chain of events doesn't feel right either for some reason. I want to take their word for it as well as the SNK canceling thing being a misunderstanding, and I don't want to point fingers, but it just feels off. At the very least I know that the matches we saw were nice enough and Top 8 were hype as fuck. I just wish I could've seen more matches, the one time slot necessary to watch the upsets was still there even if they still skipped one. I wish we could've gotten some of Colossus' (Dino) matches on stream too. People who weren't aware of him because didn't watch japanese tournaments would have loved him.

I'd say pretty good for KoF. Bala can actually go since Mexicans don't need a visa to go to Japan assuming he gets sponsored or manages to scratch up the money to get there. Also Japan doesn't lag it with the visas, Toshi, Frionel and that chinese dude who got lost his visa got theirs in like a week. I'd say expect more Asian since well it's obviously in Asia as well and more varied entrants assuming they can afford to make it there. Now the question is, will Reynald catch his flight this time?
Compare the visa policy maps for the US and Japan. Japan is a bit more laxed with which countries can go and I get the feeling they might be more laxed than the US for requirements of tourist visas. More people may not enter than regular evo, but I have a feeling that entrants will be more varied.

That would've been nice and all, but we have 54 characters. We don't know if the data that was found when those people dug around in the PC version's files of supposed DLC was legit or not or not. It hasn't been proven false, but it hasn't exactly been proven true either. So far the trend for SNK announcing something major is at one of their own events (chink conference, or wcs) or TGS. I would've liked them to announce something too, but let's be honest whatever they announced would've been overshadowed by the Tekken 7 Geese trailer and the DBFZ Trunks trailer. SNK obviously knew it was coming since they licensed Geese to Bamco so the smart move was to wait and announce on their own terms. Also on that promise, since it was in chinese (what with barely anyone outside of china knowing what's going on in there and chinese being kind of a bitch to translate) I don't know if it was just costumes or DLC in general. According to the word that was going around they promised DLC for a year/one per month which implies 12 costumes. There's already 10 costumes out there so if they just meant DLC costumes then there would be two left, but if it was DLC in general they already got more than12 things out there (10 costumes + 2 stages + 4 characters). Also assuming the once per month thing were true well they already broke that since they released 4 characters, 4 costumes and 2 stages all at once. Their promised quota is kinda already fulfilled unless they really did only mean costumes. I think that unless we get the chinese text of the stuff they promised and have someone who knows chinese (and english decently well) we won't know for sure since stuff that goes by word of mouth often gets distorted.

I haven't looped it, but I think I've watched just as many times. Fuck they just made him look so goddamn good and so fucking cool and I'm not even a Geesefag, I'm a Terry/Ryofag. The more I watch it actually, the sadder I get because of the really shitty hand SNK was dealt in regards to XIV. I know SNK did and are doing their best, and that looks aren't everything (I'll usually be one of the first ones and explain the circumstances that shaped XIV the way it is), but goddamn SNK got so much shit for it that it hurt it. I say this as someone who likes everything about XIV, enjoyed the fuck out of Tekken when I was younger, and whose favorite fighting game series is FF. It makes me think that maybe they should let Harada do that Samurai Shodown sequel like he said he wanted (it could give SNK a boost just by having their name attached to it) or hope that they are working on some nice deals like I mentioned in >>182937856. Fuck, I just want SNK to succeed again so that in the future we get more games and for me hopefully a shiny new metal slug.

Let's look at the bright side, Arc System, SNK and Namco seems to be on good terms, so if everyone helps each other, everyone can improve and we may see good crossovers in the future, who knows? I hope this can somehow help SNK improve their visuals, that's all they need to get more attencion since their games are fun and XIV finals were hype as fuck.

This reminds me in the past in various occasions (some of them when some characters were being revealed for XIV) I've seen people make statements like "character X doesn't look like themselves" and it made me wonder, do KoF characters have a look that has been set in stone? I mean the neo geo sprites' faces were relatively speaking a handful of pixels across, cant really show the fine details of their faces. This goes to a lesser extent with the XIII sprites, this goes without mentioning the characters that have part or their faces covered. Do people want them to like like the artwork or in-game art? I mean both those change nearly from game to game. If people want their looks based on promo art which ones, as those have changed a lot too with the most consistent one being the shinkis? Do people want the characters to look like the shinki art/some sort of variation of George Clooney? If not that art which one 2001, XIII, 2002 UM, etc? When they've been rendered in 3D is the one time in which we get a decently defined face for the characters during gameplay. If they were to look like some of the art/designs wouldn't they look anime as fuck, hasn't KoF looked like and in-between of anime and not anime historically?

To be fair they probably didn't know. Then again I heard they delayed the character reveal to EVO so they could take advantage for more hype. Either way their plan backfired since it got BTFO by way better reveals. As stated before SNK holding back (assuming they even had anything prepared) was the right choice.

I feel the same on both things. The money thing could be seen as a reward to those who stayed with the game (Afro dynamic mentioned something like this when he was commentating). Had they announced it before, yes more people would've signed up, but it would've been for the money. There might be truth to that since layec mentioned that there were more people who wanted to sign up after the bonus was announced.
I feel the same about Geese, but the hand they were dealt with XIV's circumstances (from recources to its initial reception) were pretty shitty, they're doing the best with what they have.
I just wonder about what they have in store for the future. Oda has alluded to future stuff with some pics he posted on twitter (like the pic of the space needle while saying he was on a business trip), so maybe they do have something planned. Maybe it has something to do with the pic he posted of him and the SNK guys having dinner with the Arcss guys with the quote "ARC X SNK ???".
