For those who don't have 8Empires, the way it works is you create a CAW, then assign them to an officer listed in the ingame encyclopedia. The generic officer will from then on appear as your CAW ingame, including cutscenes/movies/battle dialogue.

If they added that, then 9 could expand and flesh out the ROTK story in more detail without having to force in a difficult amount of new playable characters, as players could go and make the generic officers themselves, or download presets of them from other players. Plus is they wanted to, they could expand the encyclopedia to include more ROTK figures that weren't generic officers. The added benefit being that players could make CAWs of so-and-so's fourth wife without having to have KT waste a roster spot on them and that they would instead hopefully instead use it on someone that would actually be important.

Like, I understand how to take forts, but taking outposts and killing random enemies just moving around the battlefield doesn't seem to do much.

At this point, there's no solution that won't piss a good number of people off

They can either make certain characters free mode-only (which they've done before) or just make then non-playable. Of course it's moot if they'll just return things to normal in the expansion, but outright cutting characters is the last resort as we've seen in DW6. It's just jarring to have Jiang Wei in previous games and then not mention him at all in the next. There's also gonna be fanboys shit-flinging over which character's less relevant than which.

One thing to give the Basara team credit is they basically told people "Your favorite character is irrelevant now. Wait till next year" when they relegated certain characters to NPC status. Of course they weren't spared from anger either, but you gotta pick your battles. KT just picked a different one.

Taking outposts is mostly important in Adventure mode, as a way to slow down enemy officer progression in some of the harder stages, while your character is elsewhere in the map.

In the main story mode most of the progression is through specific events, so taking random outposts or even keeps isn't worth much.

Some keeps (not the basic outposts) in both story and adventure do have treasure chests that spawn after you take them over (mostly heart containers in the adventure mode, but there are some weapons in the story mode. You'll know if there'll be chests in the keeps when starting a mission in the Adventure mode, by looking at the icons above the map, which also show the prize for beating the mission or getting a high ranking) although not in story mode).

The only way to solve this is to make everyone have their own story mode so the player can somewhat feel that the character is relevant even if they don't. I think the biggest potential benefit from what we understand of DW9's story format (assuming it isn't something totally different) is that the Other characters and characters that got screwed in DW7/8 from their kingdom's stories ending too early can get some screentime, even if it's short. Adding Man Chong is a good support for this being the case I think, because it'd be ridiculous if Wei character's stories just arbitrarily ended at Fan Castle while Man Chong has a huge role at New Hefei Castle years later. They can actually add late Wu characters with this format, give Cao Pi and Wei some actual screentime in the 220s, and so on.

The problem with where Wei should end is that there really isn't anywhere better to end other than Cao Cao's death, since a major of Wei officers also drop dead shortly after and there is no good place to end after that, either as cliffhanger or to wrap the story up. New Hefei castle could very well be a Jin's stage and Man Chong being an NPC of that stage just like Sima Yi in some of Wei's stages

The thing is that the format is supposed to be back to individual stories, rather than kingdom stories. They already said characters like Dian Wei are going to have their story end when they died historically, so at Wan for him. It'd be incredibly awkward if a bunch of officers just had their stories arbitrarily end because Cao Cao died. The only limits I imagine them placing are the fall of Shu in 263, as the conquest of Wu would take a lot more effort to make and really only involve Jia Chong and Wen Yang as is, and maybe 234 for Wei after Wuzhang and New Hefei Castle.

As for going past Siege of Cheng Du, for Jin side, Jia Chong, Wen Yang and Wang Yuanji as playable for the last Wu campaign is enough imo. What we need though is some late Wu officers, Sun Luban and Sun Luyu would be good I think. If the two are added and are the last line of defense of Wu, it'd make the last battle less of a grand battle to end all battle and more about putting an end to Wu misery, which is actually just that historically.

I have a lot of fun playing different historical or mythical characters. I really enjoy being able to read up on my character. Basically for the same reason I enjoy smt. The combat on higher difficulties can also be quite fun.

Do not believe this man's lies. On higher difficulties enemies gain access to their musous, more combos, and in some games receive random buffs based on proximity to bannermen. In all games you get more XP, better weapons, and sometimes secret items and rewards on higher difficulties.

What would be nice is that higher difficulty doesn't mean big HP pools and crazy attack stats which means death in 3 hits or less, just make them more proactive in attacking and blocking, kind like how I remember they were in SW2. I distinctly remember playing DW5 and I would go knock an officer down, walk around to his back, and attack him as soon as he got up and he couldn't do anything about it. I try to do the same thing in SW2 and he would immediately roll away. And roll away anything I activated my musou. Ok, maybe that's not fair since DW5 didn't have rolling. Maybe they should bring that back then, or make officers actively switch their weapons and not make it take 1000 years.

It depends less on your level and more on your weapons I have done chaos mode with people like level 25 with a properly set up weapon. If you want to destroy chaos mode and gauntlet mode this is probably the easiest set up for most characters.

This should generally work on anybody although you can switch out some shit for others depending on the character.
It's a fucking pain in the ass getting windslay and trielement though I would suggest going to the store in story or free mode then pressing exit if you do not see a weapon you the stat you need. This resets the selection an is probably the fastest way to get a full build weapon.

Jin has its own story yet a significant number of people they are up against, like Sun Liang are generics. Also Yanni boy is missing. How can you have a "Jin" story when the guy who effectively starts the dynasty is missing?

But I would not mind if they took some artistic choices with some of the stuff. Like taking armor from mythical creatures or gods since that is what you would be fighting. Chinese mythology has a few warriors and gods with cool armor and weapons to use.
