Sonya is the most heavily disputed character on this banner and I think it's pretty clear why. She's definitely on the borderline, and most people aren't evaluating her correctly.

For starters, her Level 40 stats are 36/33/31/15/32. People claiming she's shit while declaring she has 5+ less res than Julia are retarded or fishing for (you)s

Mommyfags/Poorfags who don't have Julia want her to be the defacto green mage tank/Reinhardt counter. Julia is just better, period. Stop spouting shit like Sonya is better because she's obviously not, Julia is pretty much min maxxed to do her job perfectly. Sonya has the res to imitate but still not do the job as well.

The other camp is people threatened by the existence of a green mag they might have to pull for but don't really want to. If you have Julia, there's pretty much no need to pull for Sonya. People saying she's worse than Soren are insane because while he has better stats, Soren involves real dedication (eating a better green mage to have a half-decent performance).

tl;dr Sonya's at least decent. You should pull for her if you don't have Julia and not pull if you do. She is probably worse than Julia but not by a lot. People saying she's worse than Soren are just weirdly threatened by her existence and people saying she's the 2nd best green mage are fucking retarded. Ignore anyone who doesn't put up an argument.

Honestly, from my experience (+atk/-spd), not really, unless you're able and prepared to lug around a healer or medic Linde to keep Ninian running. Since she gets absolutely fucked by falchions she needs TA3, so she doesn't get to cover her unexceptional speed. And even then she only gets fucked a little less; you'd better hope the remaining enemies are only reds because anything else (and a lot of Tempest Trial reds) will shred you.

The only advantage she has over Azura is to have pseudodistant counter via lightning breath. But even with +atk that gets her to a stunning 39 attack.

Because TA increases the ability to oneshot significantly. Colorless is almost unusable in arena because even TA Robin can easily oneshot practically any colorless unit. Cancel Affinity makes archers and daggers much more viable in combat.

So basically I think it just gives archers and daggers a shield against TA -raven tomes and that's..... about it, really. Which is good though, 'cause that basically lets them take on what is supposed to be a hard counter to them. Cecilia and other TA -raven tomes just can't one shot them as easily is all. Cecilia in particular can still take on blue mages (like Reinhardt, and now Delthea) without much issue. Since no one knew exactly how it worked until the update, people were ranting and raving about how TA -raven is dead, how TA is dead, how Reinhardt would have no counters or nonsense like that. It was grossly exaggerated.

I fought Mathilda in the Lunatic story map. With full horse buffs, TA, and a charged Iceberg, Cecilia was unable to one shot her, all thanks to that CA skill. So Cecilia's advantage was removed and she just had to contend with Mathilda's Res and nothing else, and since her Res is actually pretty good, well... there you go.

With that res, he won't want to trade or take blows with mages. QR would be a waste if he doesn't have Close Counter because he shouldn't be baiting any mages.

I would probably do Slaying/Ignis/Close Counter if SI fodder was no object. If I wanted to invest so much in Leon though, I would probably try to pull another one with better IVs.

Ok, I did the math.

I took away Julia's Naga and A skill and gave her Rexcalibur+ (aka no effect since we're just testing to see if Reinhart can beat 32 res green mages). With Hone Cavalry buffs, DB3, +Atk/-Spd, Moonbow, and QP, Rein leaves Julia with exactly 3 HP. Julia returns fire and obliterates him. Using a Sonya with neutral Res and HP would leave her at 1 HP.

At merges get closer to 10, Rein starts to become a problem, moreso for Julia than for Sonya. At that point, you just equip Fury 3. Sonya survives slightly fewer scenarios than Julia (Julia pretty much survives every possible Reinhardt orientation except ridiculous spur setups but you're playing against the AI so don't be retarded). Furthermore, if you equip TA3 to them, neither Julia nor Sonya will die to basically any set-up. Hilariously, given Sonya's higher speed, only she can survive maximum Reinage: +8 Atk/Spd from Spurs, +6 from Hones, +10 Merge, +Atk, DB3, Quickened Pulse Moonbow.

tl;dr Sonya doesn't die to Rein as long as she doesn't have a Res or HP bane. You need to put Fury 3 or TA on her as the Reinhardt buffs/merges get very high but the same is true for Julia. Julia survives more encounters so I'm starting to think that the optimal build for Sonya involves using TA3 to tank merged and buffed Reins.

P.S. If Rein never gets buffed then he's pretty much never a problem for Sonya or Julia.

Does anybody else feel extra disappointment from Fates because you can see hints of the potential to be really good?
