I haven't used eldritch battery+MoM in literally years. Is it still viable? I'm assuming eldritch doesn't allow for double dipping ES from mana nodes. Can you just reserve your regular mana pool and use the ES for casting skills+absorbing hits?

its fun even without the pierce on totems (forces me to use proj. weakness) and champion makes them not die instantly because of taunt and reducing damage, and the fuckton of damage you get from the other two notables (never get fortify its not worth spending 4 fucking points for mostly wasted stats)

I'm not sure who Blizzard their audience is these days. They seem more interested in making shitty pay to win games like hearthstone and modern WoW than games with actual good gameplay. Modern WoW is played mostly by idiots, community is very dead nobody talks to each other in that game. You can't even do the endgame without buying boosts or knowing other people to get you into groups or guilds. The only guilds that exist are hyper casual playing only 5-8 hours a week (or not even that) even when new content comes out.

volatiles were always absolute cancer to melee builds.

It wasn't a problem since before atlas of worlds and 2.0 when volatiles got introduced mob damage was lower and oneshot treshold was lower so the volatiles did lower damage and you could survive them much better. But over time it became an actual issue.

they made characters significantly stronger but did not improve the monster AI or make the monsters stronger
theyve actually made monsters weaker, for example they changed the goats AI so they dont all leap on you at once, devourers the same and etc

I think ascendancies are fine, but people need to realize that whining about "broken things" more often than not those were put in place to prevent a build from becoming too strong.

Reflects, Volatiles, Devourers, Porcupines, Bleed, Bearers, the list goes on.

All of those things have one thing in common: Paying attention counters all of them, they are supposed to make you go "hmm, maybe I shouldn't go warp 10 and build a character with 10 million dps, maybe I should take it down a notch, build less dps and more utiltiy and tank", the game was very nicely balanced, but listening to reddit and catering to convenience over substance made the whole thing out of control

Shitters complained about mechanics designed to prevent power creep. GGG removed or weakened those mechanics and predictably, as a result there is now more power creep than ever.

Reflect alone is such an elegant concept in preventing power creep by itself that I have to congratulate GGG for coming up with it in the way it was implemented originally. It's a self countering mechanism that you can defeat by just not building as much damage. If you deal moderate damage, you will never have problems with reflect, but this also means you won't go off the deep end in terms of power creep.

TL;DR GGG is undoing all the smart design decisions from the past without understanding why they were added to the game in the first place.

Luckily though, 3.0 is shaping up to be the big anti-powercreep patch the game desperately needs, pretty much all meta builds are nerfed very hard. Now if only they could bring back the smart design decisions from the past that balance the scale without tinkering with the actual numbers too much, like reflect auras.

CI changes are a symptom, not the cause. CI would need no change at all if vaal pact (effectively anti-reflect in a sense) and the DPS wasn't so absurdly high.

The problem with CI is that it has no downsides anymore in this day, having no life is not a detriment, far from it as your buffer is much higher without it. It's a fundamentally broken ability. Almost any build was just plain better as CI.

You could fix this by either giving life builds something unique that CI can't get (difficult, because what would that be?), or by making CI worse. They chose the second option. ES buffer really shouldn't be able to facetank abilities designed to oneshot you.

This is part of a larger issue of how only oneshots or borderline oneshots are really threatening anymore, because of how fast you can log off, blink/charge away and otherwise be safe almost instantly.

I made a lengthy plebbit post about it and since reddit has no idea about game design, it was downvoted by half the readers. Basically if they made it so disengaging from combat would take only a few seconds longer, then GGG could remove all the bullshit oneshots and replace them with mechanics that lets you lose a fight slower, as a result you can have less health/buffer and still be strong enough to tackle the end game. This also means that losing is more of your fault and not a "didn't pay attention for a microsecond" moment.

Dark Souls is a good example of this balancing concept. Escaping from a bossfight is almost impossible, you're locked in there with him, but none of the boss abilities really oneshot you, you can take several hits before it gets critical and then you can still take healing items. You lose a fight by making too many mistakes, by gradually losing the fight, not by misplaying once for a microsecond. I find this to be much better gamedesign and it would fix so many problems with the game right now it's unbelievable.

Yeah, it's pretty dumb. They pretty much gave items, and rather powerful ones at that, to overcome the downsides of CI. Part of said powercreep, nonetheless.

It's why I like the Avarius fight, it's a well balanced fight. It's not easy, but not very difficult either once you know what you are supposed to do, and everything is clearly telegraphed either by animation or voice acting.

Instead of going with these horrible ES changes, they should have addressed the armour/evasion issue. The half-assed hybrid life rolls on rares aren't going to solve anything. AR/EV needs a serious revamp, but they are just keep adding damage reduction options, see Fortify for a starter. That's basically the D3 way of dealing with it.
