>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Rimworld, Age of Decadence, VA-11 HALL-A, Subnautica, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

Behold my medical masterpiece: the poor prisoner with no eyes, no ears, no nose, no jaw, no arms, no legs, and basically all his organs removed, with the few vital ones replaced with poor surrogates. The only things he can do anymore is barely breath and eat the food that's fed to him.

Oh well, he knew the risks when he decided to take on the local death god space cult. Probably.

Organ harvesting is a base feature in Rimworld, yes, but I do have a bunch of mods to spice things up. Harvest everything does what the name implies, letting you harvest way more than the game does by default. I also have EPOE for crafting those surrogate organs and other stuff. This particular victim (who's actually female, oops) I'm experimenting on to see if it's worthwhile crafting base-level surrogate organs to harvest absolutely everything. Normally you also get quite notable mood debuffs for your colonies for organ harvesting, but because I'm running a death god cult (thanks to the Rim of Madness Cthulhu/Lovecraft mods) I also installed a greyer morals mod because I figured it'd fit the tone.

>>182465197
Yeah, she has served her medical purpose now. Next stop for her will be at the altar to see if I can get something nice out of Cthulhu with a little human sacrifice. Maybe another one of those nice tentacle arms for one of my lovely cultists.

>>182465449
The funniest thing is that what lead to this was just an unfortunate accident. The Agency basically becomes hostile to you if they "discover your cult" (which means spotting certain cult-related items). I had a cult sculpture sitting outside my base that I had gotten from a crashed ship and didn't know those angered the Agency, so when their trade caravan (which I had even requested) walked in they immediately turned hostile and the situation turned into a bloodbath. I managed to get three prisoners from that though, two of which I've been harvesting, and one which I managed to actually convert to my side (Marjot Jr, named that because I had another colonist named Marjot in the past who unfortunately died and this new one's name was Marjot too so I added Jr to the nickname) and who got almost immediately initiated into the cult as well.
>>
>>182465857
This is making me think about a movie or creepypasta or something about how they use people to cultivate skin. For their entire lives and without consent that is.

Maybe it was X-files?

>Yeah, she has served her medical purpose now. Next stop for her will be at the altar to see if I can get something nice out of Cthulhu with a little human sacrifice. Maybe another one of those nice tentacle arms for one of my lovely cultists.
Ok i think i want that mod
>>
>>182466227
And lo, the ritual was a success (a mixed one according to the game since we got an eclipse, but that doesn't really do anything to me at this point). Marjot Jr now has a Cthulhid tentacle for a left arm, increasing her manipulation efficiency by a nice 25%.

I didn't realize that starting the sacrifice ceremony would make all trade caravan members gather to watch it too, though. That was pretty amusing.

I have like three or four hair mod packs installed, most of which add lots of great female hair options. That's why I also have the Prepare Carefully and Change Dresser mods, so I can make everyone women with nice hair, whether it's for the starters or any newcomers during gameplay. I also have the Psychology mod, which has some options for sexuality, including making people more likely to be bisexual so that love can still bloom in the colony despite everyone being female. Lyra and Serra (two of the starting three along with Emily) became lovers pretty early on and got married quite a while back at around day 90 (colony is currently at around day 260).

Btw for anyone interested here's my current mod list

Everything enabled and unmarked is basically something I've tested and consider nice, yellow highlights are for stuff I haven't really used yet, red is for stuff I only have enabled for save game compatibility and intend to remove, and blue is for things I want to check out but haven't due to mid-game enabling issues.

I really love how modding Just Works(tm) with this game and how stable things run with minimal faffing around required for things like load order.

Can anyone provide into on respawning behaviors in Subnautica?
Do fish respawn or am I forced to set up some sort of conservatory to breed them in captivity ASAP?

In that same breath, if I manage to slay every Reaper, will they never come back?
>>
>>182498425
Someone said earlier that they don't respawn, so you're supposed to build aquariums.
>>
>>182498859
Okay, i guess that makes sense, thanks friend
>>
>>182498425
Fish, plants, and resources do not respawn, with the exception of crashfish and crashfish powder
Only way to have a 100% sustainable food source is via breeding in alien containments dumb name for the big aquarium, but at least the name's less easily confused with the small aquarium that you can't breed fish in or growing plants in growbeds/plant pots
Though there's enough fish in the whole map that depopulating it's pretty much a non-concern, though you will be forced to wander further and further from your base in search of them
As for reapers, I'm not 100% sure if they don't respawn
Not really worth the effort anyway, in my opinion
>>
>>182495719
what the fuck. do you need that many mods for the game to be fun? its not like barebones without mods is it?
>>
>>182499115
Interesting. I was thinking of creating a base that spans the length of the Sea Treader's Path just to mine their infinite gold and diamond, but if standard building resources are finite, I may decide against such ambitious projects
>>
>>182499115
Yeah, but being a comfy underwater base...

Even if I have to pretend I ignore the fact that sea water corrodes every fucking thing in existence.
>>
>>182499352
This is a future where a handheld device that runs on batteries can project raw titanium ore into a predesigned structure that is perfectly air tight in 2-6 seconds, and your concern is corrosion?
>>
>>182499282
It's finite, but there's so much of it that you're unlikely to ever use absolutely all of it, no matter how ambitious your plans are
You could easily build a temporary base with a scanner room and just depopulate the area of fragments and metal salvage and maybe move to another area to repeat the process once or twice and you could probably build such a base
>>182499352
Good thing literally everything's made of titanium, then
>>
>>182499542
I've been told that nothing resist water. Especially sea water.

Granted, in Subnautica, you don't spend months on the planet, but after a few years, you would be unable to open the airlock. Airlocks who don't really work that way anyway, but high-tech dude.

I blame Dark Souls for spoiling me with a shitload of weapons and making them all viable by avoiding a tier system.

Nowaday, everytime I play a game where I'm forced to switch weapons instead of just upgrading the same through the entire game, I'm annoying.

Especially since I like simple stuff and, in most games, advanced weapons are fancier. In some case, they even look like ceremony weapons. Have fun killing a monster with a dull sword.

>>
>>182499194
>do you need that many mods for the game to be fun?

Not really. I played the game for like 12 hours without mods (pirated), then bought it and started looking into what the workshop has to offer. Over half of those mods are something that either a) tweaks some minor thing or two about existing things (usually making them slightly more streamlined or convenient or just making more sense) or b) adds one or two new minor things to the game.

Honestly it just shows that this game is doing good as far as modding is concerned, because it's modular and granular enough that these kind of small tweaks are easy to make and easy to get for users.

I'm playing Rimworld, and I made some of my own characters with the prepare carefully mod so I could watch them try to survive. But once I started the game, family members, that I never made, of these character started showing up out of the blue. Kinda breaking immersion that in the first 3 days of being crashlanded on some completely random planet that one of the characters father's just walks into the camp.
Is there a way to turn that shit off? A mod or anything? My autism wont let me continue until this is settled.

Expeditions : Viking
It's a turn-based tactical rpg, plot-heavy, really good and charming but riddled with bugs the last time I played it. I must have really liked this game to finish it through the crashes and gamebreaking bugs (such as spawning alone and naked in the final battle where you're supposed to have 20+ goons with you).

Expeditions: Viking. The successor to the previous game, Expeditions: Conquistador

A rival thane is planning on screwing you over, but your town is weak, and your neighbors aren't going to support you when the rival thane makes his powerplay and screws over your hometown, so you have to go across the sea in order to find the means to resist the rival. You can secure alliances with the neighboring kingdoms so they can help you, be a le happy merchant and set up trades routes so you can make a lot of money and become influential, or something stab everybody and take their shit, so you can fund your own army to tell the rival thane to fuck off.

I just got off Denmark, so I haven't had much of a chance to explore the British islands, but right as you get to the coast you can loot and pillage a small Christian village and church if you feel like it.

New FEH addict here: It really has nothing to do with FE except it uses characters from FE games. There is no permadeath and all the chance was taken out of the combat and put into rolling characters. I also feel only 4 characters makes the game less of an srpg and more of a jrpg with placements like Trails in the Sky and Live-A-Live(play both!)

Nah, the animation is really different. When Six does his stabby thing he raises his arm up and quickly stabs forward at shoulder level. What the handmaiden does is a slow low slash going in a backwards/side motion.

I mean, they both use arm blades, sure. But Six is not the only one, for example the Faceless Gaunts have them too.

There are also at least two new shotgun feats in play (Barrel Stare and Pellet Mayhem) that aren't in the current version's files, despite it already including about 30 expansion feats. There are many more new items not seen in the video.

>Just how many new "factions" does this expansion have?
I can think of four major ones, maybe more if the pirates have distinct groups of their own. They probably renamed gray army to aegis incorporated since that suit appears to be one of the gray army armors, but you couldn't know that unless you've been digging into the files.
>>
>>182551558
>So, any ideas what this icon means?
Seems like the regular small blue square for in-map level transition, except a one-way trip unless you pass a skill check. Looks like strength, since it turned red when he got crippled.
>>
>>182552276
And went back to blue after an adrenaline shot.
>>
>>182552276
>>182552572
Good points, but it's a little weird. Similar climbing transitions elsewhere require agility rather than strength.

I suppose this point could also be an in-map transition to jump across the stream.
>>
>>182553070
And this one could be climbing up the pipe.
>>
>>182545457
I never got the hype around SSR

Is it just because it was in development for so long?
Because the author was really tied into the indie community with other 'personalities' like Jonathan Blow?
Because of the 2deep4u ending?
Was it just a meme to review it as the best thing ever?
>>
>>182553070
>Similar climbing transitions elsewhere require agility rather than strength.

That's true, but I have no better explanation. Unless the check is for punching a hole in that rock wall instead of climbing, or the check was for encumbrance instead. But I find both of these very unlikely. It's going to be a little strange though if the expansion consistently uses strength for climbing, but the base game keeps the usual agility checks.

Now the stream on the other hand is probably agility, he has enough of that to pass probably any check the game could throw at him. At least I don't think checks ever go above 10.
>>
>>182553930
Most of the climbing checks I remember are combined str/ag-oh wait you're talking about underrail not aod whoops
>>
>>182553930
Wait, I think I get it.

The icon turned from blue to orange when he got crippled not because of str, but because he got encumbered. No shortcuts for Al Fabets.
>>
>>182554358
Eeehhh, I still doubt it. Seems like a weird idea to go out of your way to fuck over encumbered characters like this. For what purpose would you do that?

Oneshort : Stealth Edition.

Anyway, I finally got around my fear and progressed a bit in Subnautica. Battery chargers make most stuff a walk in the park, and I have to say I really like how the game encourages you to explore. First it's survival, then it's the rendezvous, and then it's that bitch that yelled at me and spooked me good.
Tip : before going to meet the Sunbeam, build two beacons. It helps.

But I don't really like the crafting system, for two reasons : lack of alternative materials (despite the entry suggesting that stalker teeth are very solid, I can't use that as a substitute to titanium, which I'm running low of), some stuff in still counter-intuitive (power cell aren't better batteries, so I can't use the one I crafted on any of my stuff), and one-way crafting (built a few titanium ingots to save space, I have no way to turn them back in titanium).

Phoneposter again. Glad I came back to look at this thread. Gonna peep the list Anon posted and hopefully never be bored again.
>>
>>182555169
Stalker teeth are used in enameled glass, which is used in a scanner room (very important), and the observatory room (looks quite nice but that's all).

Power cells ARE kind of like better batteries, but only insofar as they're "batteries for bigger stuff". You use them in your vehicles (seamoth, prawn, cyclops). You do (near the very end of the story) get a recipe for a better battery (and power cell).

You'll be able to loot a ton of batteries and power cells from the aurora when you explore it, but don't be shy about crafting them early. It doesn't hurt to have some extras in storage. Let me tell you, power issues are trivial when you're in the surface areas above 300m, but when you go into the deep caves around 1500-1600m down you are going to want some emergency power.
>>
>>182555148
I'm still skeptical. It makes sense in a way, but it's too arbitrary a penalty to go after. Might as well disable acrobatic feats while fatigued as well then, which we see is not the case.
>>
>>182555395
How do I do that?

Also, growing stuff is comfy. I like my underwated base.

>>182555472
Ha, so I haven't wasted my glass for nothing. Even if I don't have a scanner room.

>>182557780
Six and Gaunts are the only NPCs in the entire game that use them. Also, remember that Styg said

>Six and Gaunts are the only NPCs in the entire game that use them.

Sure, but it requires unique combat animation. I think that's reason enough for their rarity. If that was a trademark of aliens the other Faceless would have it too. Also Tanner, but he could be easily excused.

That area doesn't seem to have alien tech anyway. These robot statues are something else.

You should probably provide some better context when you report them too, like maybe how you figured out how to make the potatoes unharvestable. Mine are growing fine, so how'd you get yours to glitch?

Are you growing them up against a wall? In the water? Did you let it grow to 100% before trying to harvest? etc

>>182561764

Well, I go to the island where the Sunbeam tries to land, I find the teleporter to "Botanica Island" (that's how I called it) where you find the remains of another base, but when I use the knife on the potato plants, I don't get either sample nor seeds, and they disappear after a few swings.

I'll try to feedback them all.
>>
>>182562393
With the potatoes you just pick them up via left-clicking
ya dingus
>>
>>182562598
That only gives me the potato (that rots very quickly, by the way). While the marblemelon reacts differently.
>>
>>182522095
What game is that?
>>
>>182562794
you can still plant the potato
with marblemelons you need to use the knife to get the seeds, with bulbo trees you need to use the knife to get bulbo tree samples, with lantern trees and potatoes you just left-click to get lantern fruit and potatoes
all four of these things can be planted
>>
>>182562393
>I dunno, I assume that everyone already did so.
More like you can't be bothered.
>>
>>182563219
Nevermind, I checked.

Some plants need you to use the knife on them to recover the seed and plant it, others just require you to harvest it and then plant the fruit.
How was I supposed to know that, the game explains nothing, HAW HAW HAW, this is stupid!

Not really fond of how plants reacts differently to the left click and the knife, but it does make sense that you don't get potatoes seeds.
>>
>>182563417
if you swing your knife once and nothing happens, then that's not what you're supposed to do
nothing in the game requires swinging your knife 4+ times to get the seeds, either you swing once and get a seed or nothing happens and you need the entire plant
>>
>>182563417
>>182563604
also, with the potatoes in particular there should've been a hand icon when mousing over it
hand icon is generally a sign you should left-click on whatever you're mousing over
>>
>>182563417
It was pretty intuitive to me, I read the entries and it said the sap of the bulbo tree is for eating so I knew right away to swing my knife

For the potatoes, I just know from real life you can plant a potato in the ground and use it as a "seed".

Iunno, none of it confused me.
>>
>>182563604
I assumed it was a bug.

>>182563745
Not exactly. I first encountered the watermelon.
For it, left-clicking allows you to harvest it and get a fruit, while attacking it with a knife destroys it and gives you 4 seeds. Same with the Acidic Mushrooms, so I assumed it was the same for everything.
Left-click to gather ressources, right-click to get seeds.
>>
>>182564030
>I assumed it was a bug.
well you assumed wrong, dingus
>>
Also taters are inferior because if you just keep eating lantern fruits you'll always be behind on water intake anyway - you never need a "high food content" farmable. Good reason to keep a bulbo tree around but I got rid of mine when I upgraded to the thermo knife because it dies too fast.

Playing 'catch up' on water is trivial after you get the desalinater anyway.
>>
I'd also like to remind you that cuttings exists. You can cut off a branch, plant it elsewhere, and it'll grow.

>>182564171
Yeah but I want the whole collection.
>>
>>182564171
all of the four things you get have their uses, best to have one plant pot filled with each
4 marblemelons just to get your food+water up real quick, potatoes if you still need more food, bulbo tree if you need more water, and lantern fruits just to get that extra 1-10% to top yourself off

As someone who came into Subnautica only very recently (current patch), I know from reading around here that previously the cyclops was invulnerable and at one point there were no leviathans. Sea exploration must've felt very safe back then!

Both mountain island and floating island are only ~1000m from lifepod 5 (the start pod)

I did the same though. You will learn in time that even 2000m of straight shooting travel across the sea is not bad at all, particularly once you have a seamoth. No, the true odysseys are the ones to the far deep that involve navigating labyrinthine caves at excruciatingly slow speeds.

Storytellers have a default "max" that they try to get you to / keep you at, but you can actually increase that in configuration files. This will generally result in more events like "a wanderer joins your colony" etc when you're vastly under the max. I haven't done it myself though so you'll have to google how to achieve this - my colonies have usually been running at around 8-10 colonists after a good while (I think 12 is the default "cap").

You should be able to find seaglide parts without leaving the shallows, but also very commonly at the first wreck location you're given (pod 4) and the kelp forests. Really seaglide parts just litter the floor everywhere. Please understand, you have to use your scanner on them, you can't just pick them up, and they are often in boxes with one side open.

>>
>>182641524
"Optimization" is a foreign concept to Subnautica. It is very bloated.

But how much RAM do you even have?
>>

>>182642007

>>
Which one is better between Subnautica and ARK?
ARK has dinosaurs, taming, and seems to be finished but apparently lacks a real tutorial, while Subnautica is still beta, is poorly optimized, but is very forgiving.
>>
>>182642007
>Devs have 3 months planned for optimization.
You do that first to have a solid base you can also port easier and then fix any issues later if they come up.
>>
>>182610674
Hard to take yourself seriously when you about to destroy yourself via corruption of your files.
>>
>>182642630
ARK is more conventional, and seems to be based on a mix between Minecraft and Starbound, with different equipements giving you different ressources, and various tier determining how efficient the tools are, and how durable they are.

For example, the hatchet gives you flint, thatch, and meat when used on rocks, trees and dead animals.
The pick used on the same items gives you stone, wood, and leather, so it's more about using the right tool to maximize your income rather than recycling like in Subnautica.

Hey guys, I have a question about Stardew Valley.

If I picked up Artisan, there's really no point in generating gold star Milk/Eggs/Wool right? Since crafted item quality doesn't depend on the quality of the initial item (ie milk made from a gold star regular milk will still be just regular cheese, only large milk (regular or otherwise) will become gold star cheese)

So does this mean that I don't really have to go around petting my animals?

Or does the Large Egg/Large Milk thing also depend on affection?
>>
>>182662254
Yeah, whether the milk/egg is large depends on affection.
>>
>>182662391
Oh okay, nevermind then

I'm still a bit disappointed that gold star raw items seem to be of so little use. I'd like to be able to make gold quality Wine with my gold fruit for even more profit, but as it stands I just straight up sell silver/gold quality items (and keep some for gifts sometimes) and make goods out of the regular items

Guy who tries the outdoor colony thingy.
First winter behind me, no cold snaps or heatwaves, though, but got at least 4 raids or manhunting pack of boars. Somehow survived all that bullshit. It's a temperate forest, so guess this is pretty easy here.

Progress is slow because of outdoors and temperature speed debuffs, it's kind of hard to get anything done and candidates for new colonists were pretty shitty.

I've been looking for a game that lets you build up and then delve down into dungeons.

The closest experience I've found is skyrim, with mods that make dungeons black, make traps lethal, and add sleep/food requirements

>doing easy odd jobs (collecting ore, grabbing mudcrab chitin) off the signpost
>steadily getting money to buy torches and healing potions and food
>finally set out on an expedition, slowly creeping through the black dungeons, getting spooked and finding loot
>no pressure to complete them, run away if the enemies are too hard or if i'm running out of supplies

Are there any games like this?
>>

The first Witcher was pretty much this, especially how you would try to gain information on monsters and learn their weaknesses beforehand, prep potions that do very specific things, and then venture into the dangerous areas.

Not him, but I played it, neat game.
Expect grinding before getting into dungeons, though. On other hand, I might start fresh and try to get into dungeons without doing fuckload of jobs beforehand.

To other anons
Is there something like this, but real-time? With fluid, fast combat and stuff?

Elona is super grindy, but that's kind of the point of the game. I actually really like the pre-dungeon grind, it's exactly the build up that anon was talking about.

I've been looking for games like Elona for years. It's probably my favorite game and has ruined a lot of genres for me because of everything it does right and how unique it is. It's not perfect but holy fuck I love it.

Depends what you're trying to do. The character I posted was built to kill the Inner Gods, which are hilariously broken NPCs you really aren't meant to be able to beat. I sort of took my time with the grinding too. I know people who could do it in half the time, and less than half the fun.

Depends, if he wants just a dungeon crawler then playing on inferno, for the first time atleast, might be a bad idea.

But if he wants the TRUE ROGUELIKE EXPERIENCE, then he should play on inferno.

In my opinion Elona is too unbalanced to be played like a roguelike, atleast stuff like Nethack or DCSS is balanced around being able to be won with only one life, but Elona isn't like that.
>>
>>182689506
>Spoiler
That's why I say not to play on Inferno. It's not the strength of the game and if you want that there are other options. Hell, just play ADoM if you want Elona Inferno. Non-inferno mode is a really unique game and a great way to immerse yourself in an adventure for as long as you need.

In fairness, she's a fairy. I think she's actually pretty huge for a fairy if I remember right.
Drinking milk increases your height, eating increases weight, vomiting lowers it. There's ways to manipulate age. They're all pretty irrelevant and I always forget about them. I think there's one extremely minor mechanic that is effected by weight but after literally thousands of hours I'm not sure.

I don't think there is enough to discuss to keep a Subnautica general. I mean, this general gets by on alternating between Subnautica, RimWorld, UnderRail development, and occasional Age of Decadence whenever someone is doing a playthrough of it. Maybe it would work out when the game fully releases and a bunch of people get into it.

You will love it when you get the seamoth - it's your first proper sub, a little one seater that is extremely agile and because it has an oxygenated cabin, you can use it as a sort of mobile 'jump off point' to explore deeps. Park it around 200m and seaglide the rest of the way.

You Subnautica guys talking about Cyclops power usage, what version did you play?

I recently played Jun-2017 50198 and my Cyclops didn't use or provide any power. I thought they disabled it because there used to be an exploit to recharge power cells faster than the sub used them. Not that this made the game any harder, one cell lasts practically forever in Seamoth and the prawn suit's got thermal reactor upgrade for deep diving.
>>
>>182721341
The live stable version is the only experience I have. I heard they did fix the cyclops power bug here in this very general (the exploit was you could put power cell chargers on the wall of the cyclops and it would cost no power to recharge them, if I understand correctly).

Cells do last quite long, but don't forget the lava larva in the lava zones will sap your power if you park outside for very long

>>
>>182722927
Aw jeez. The movelists are completely fucked due to having unhelpful and occasionally wrong inputs listed, in addition to some moves not being listed. Some purchasable moves have stat prerequisites that aren't listed anywhere. For the beginning half of the game you spend most of your time members of 4 different gangs simultaneously rather than fighting individual gangs. Enemies can knock you through screen transitions and your own attacks can pull you through them (this problem has been solved since the GBA remaster RCR but they didn't bother to implement it), and cash can land to close to a transition trigger that it's impossible to pick up without changing screens (changing screens resets encounters so there's high potential for frustration, especially during boss fights). Falling into pits can lead to respawning over the pit, infinitely, for a guaranteed death. The experience requirements listed for levels actually display the total required experience for the level AFTER the next level, so the total displayed is never correct. Some character moves are impossible to execute or have been overwritten as duplicates of other moves. The Story progress tracker can break. The first half of the game has practically no boss fights and instead forces the player to chase down characters through multiple screens who then immediately surrender.

I'm sure I could go on if I wracked my brain but there's so much shit that pisses me off about the game that I kinda quit counting, y'know.

>>
>>182722468
>the exploit was you could put power cell chargers on the wall of the cyclops and it would cost no power to recharge them, if I understand correctly
Not exactly. Battery/cell rechargers use energy, but their output is vastly greater than input. They're are just ridiculously fast and efficient. Compare them against moonpool vehicle recharging for example; the latter is utterly pointless, it's way better to install and manually use rechargers in your moonpools.

Oh so the larvas are supposed to sap power? I never knew what the fuck they did. But I don't see how that would even matter since they only appear in areas full of geothermal energy. That makes them a nuisance at worst, not a real threat.
>okay lets make a threat that drains resource X
>only have them in a place full of free resource X
Why must survival games always do this.

>>182724724
Yeah, that one pissed me off the most, especially because of the aforementioned pre-existing fix. I definitely recommend emulating River City Ransom EX for the GBA if you've got the RCR itch, though. It has a crazy list of expanded features including the ability to fully customize your character's appearance, run your own gang, and access to every single move used by any enemy in the game, in addition to a ridiculously robust options menu that lets you customize AI behavior and other cool stuff. It's one of the most competent remasters of all time and most people have never heard of it.

so /v/ convinced me to get subnautica, and I'm not really sure what I should be doing. It feels like I should be trying to work my way towards a permanent base or the vehicles right off the bat, yet the game is constantly fucking me on resources due to limited inventory space and timers. Am I doing it wrong?
>>
>>182729246
Scan everything you can. If you run out of inventory space and fill the pod's built-in storage, you can make some floating storage containers to store stuff. Once you have even the smallest base you can make much larger storage containers to keep all your stuff in.
>>
>>182729246
It would be a good idea to start a temporary base for storage purposes asap.

Alternatively you could craft a bunch of waterproof lockers or just drop your stuff onto a safe spot on the seafloor, but I wouldn't recommend either because the game is buggy as fuck, you could lose items with either method.

Getting a base up and running is good. I don't remember exactly what you need for a base builder at the fabricator, but it's not a huge amount. That said, you won't be getting the nice stuff for bases(multipurpose rooms and indoor grow beds) until you go visit an island.

Working towards vehicles is good. That said, just explore. When you find the fragments for vehicles and the materials, get them made. But, on the whole, just keep exploring.

No, there are 2 options here:

1. If it's easy to find, you will still have to wait until you visit Black Sea (Styg said nothing about DLC drugs appearing in the base game) which means you only get the bonus mid to late game.

2. If it's craft only, you will also need to invest in biology.

Junkyard Surprise allowed you to up your INT by +2 as soon as you get to Junkyard.

It absolutely is.

One of the worst aspects of having only 3 INT is that your crafting skills get a penalty high enough that you can barely meet the requirements of components you find. At level 8 with 3 INT youw would have only 44 in any crafting skill, 54 with 5 INT.

The bonus to crafting can be also used to craft high end stuff you wouldn't be normally able to otherwise- imagine your lvl 8 sniper with 7 INT and 62 mechanics is about to go to Depot A. You were lucky enough to get a Spearhead frame from Blaine, but it needs 70 mechanics, With Junkyard surprise you will have 71 mechanics.

The thing is you rarely ever gain weight from eating but lose it every time you vomit. You vomit if you eat rotten food, but also cursed food, which you'll only know is cursed if you identify it first. Your character can also vomit from iirc certain enemy abilities and potions thrown at you. So you end up at obscenely low weights very often.

I could complain about all the SJW crap, but that's just low hanging fruit. All you need to know is that the Co-Creator is a white knight for Anita Sarkeesian on Twatter

>Terrible character relationships
>Absolutely 0 character arc for protagonist
>boring 1st half of game, and when the game finally starts to pick up, it immediately ruins itself with a retarded "twist"
>THOUSANDS of typos all throughout the dialogue
>pretty much no "gameplay" whatsoever

It's not a real game, and it's not a good story
why is this trash doing well at all
>>

I dunno. I guess I kinda feel like it needs to be shat on, so that more devs don't see this kind of trash and think "I can't wait to be the next Life is Strange/NITW/TellTale ripoff."

You've got a good point though. Maybe bringing attention to it only makes it grow, even if that attention is negative.

The mechanics are there as a vehicle for the narrative. There's no problem with that.

That's a problem I develop with most builders, including Tropico 4. At a certain point i have to set my own goals and challenges to remain interested, which sounds a lot worse than it is. I do enjoy playing these games but I have to bring something to the game to keep it really fun.

Let me retract my statement a tiny bit. I don't think ALL the character relationships are bad. I think that MANY of the main character relationships are bad. Look at Gregg and Angus' relationship, for example.

>Gregg is a violent, immature anarchist
>Angus does not like that
"B-but Gregg cut back on his immaturity when Mae left!"
>But supposedly, Angus and Gregg are Highschool sweethearts
>In highschool, Gregg was still a violent, immature degenerate
>So Angus fell in love with someone whose qualities he hated?
>Qualities that made him argue with Gregg later in the game?
>Qualities that may eventually cause the two to break up?

Mae and Bea
>Friends when they were younger
All right, I'll let you have that
>Yet, everything Mae does seems to not sit well with Bea
> The dinner conversation practically makes it seem like Bea outright hates Mae
>Mae makes Bea a worse person (makes her an accessory to shoplifting)
Everything points to their relationship falling apart, not being redeemed

Bea also points out that she doesn't particularly like Gregg. The only connection she has to him is through Angus.

Mae and Gregg could definitely be friends, because they are both terrible people. Yet, the flaw there is that they are both AWFUL people.

None of these connections or relationships sit right with me.
>>
>>182765674
Banished runs out of stone and iron, if I'm remembering right. Of course, it's not like you can expand to get more, so...
Oh, and occasionally an early winter will fuck you over hard.
>>
Oh so all you had to do was trick him into dashing into his gong. Ok that changes things.
>>
>>182767112
Wait what were you trying to do
>>
>>182767418
I was fighting his minions, then he suddenly started dashing at me and I died. It happened so fast that I assumed that he was just invulnerable until he started dashing. In practice I kept running from him until I noticed his gong and I tried it hit it to see what would happen, then he started to dash at me, I dodged out of the way, and he instantly died.
>>
>>182764981

Also, I just realized

>The mechanics are there for the narrative

Doesn't mean much when the story is AWFUL.

1st half of game
>Small-town "Catcher in the Rye" shite (that also seems to have completely ignored the point of "Catcher in the Rye"
> A bunch of boring nothing happens for a few days
>Something interesting finally happens on Halloween
2nd half of game
>Mae and Crew investigate Zambie Goasts
> Except:
1. Mae stands around with her thumb up her arse and waits for her friends to suggest anything useful
2.The Mystery Gang happen upon information by complete accident (our "ghost" is apparently a retard who clearly shows himself to the protagonists despite having the ability to walk through walls/hide within matter)
>none of the information they find even really helps them
>Mae just walks up the hill/wanders into the woods and finds the "ghost" (WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST DO THIS EARLIER)
>Gregg shoots Ed, the "ghost"
>Follow him into an abandoned mine
> Turns out it's not Ghosts
>Just a cult of Trump Supporters (I wish I was kidding)
>The trump supporters actually don't even have any ill will towards the kids
>LITERALLY LET THEM LEAVE
>JUST WALK OUT OF THE MINE
>Ed is still butthurt, decides to teleport up the mineshaft elevator and scare the kids
>elevator falls down for some reason???? and cuts off Ed's arm
>Protagonists just leave
>No big monster reveal, no real threat, NOTHING
>Melodramatic conversation with your preferred friend at the end of the game

Upon retrospect, were Mae and Crew the bad guys? Except for Angus (and maybe Bea) they were all terrible people

dragons dogma is indeed a open world/sandbox game. you dont have to do quests in order and tihngs like that, same as skyrim. its a little more strict though; for instance if you go off exploring then you may find an npc or kill something that was meant for a later quest.
still, id try it out. dungeons in dragons dogma can be tough and planning is required. you do have to manage your resources otherwise you wont do too well. the combat is also neat, its got stuff like climbing big enemies to strike at their head or arms to make them drop their weapon, things like that.
another game id suggest is darkest dungeon, which sounds like exactly what you want minus the open world. its not a game for everyone though, people are split like 50/50 on whether its a great game or dogshit.
>>
>>182766592
Oh yeah, Gregg is my least favorite character. Not because I hate anarchists or anything, he's just boring and transparently comedy relief. His character has none of the depth that Bea's does and the characters IN THE GAME discuss frequently how he constantly gets away with things he shouldn't get away with. When your own game is calling out how bullshit one of your characters is, you might have a problem. Or maybe Bea is just too cool for Possum Springs. As far as him and Angus hooking up, sometimes you don't really have a choice who you crush on, man. Maybe they will break up some day. So what? That happens in real life all the time.

As for Mae and Bea's relationship, it's believable. Bea is a nervous loner who has difficulty making friends, and she doesn't identify with anyone in Possum Springs. She and Mae were friends when they were younger, and presumably got along a lot better. Now they don't, but they still have that old connection and no one else to hang out with, really. That's why the title of their achievement is Best Available Friend. The description is "proximity counts." If you read into that at all, I think you'll find why they still hang out even though their relationship isn't as stable as it used to be.

Mae is not really a good person. None of them are. That's kind of the point; it's a story about realistic people, with flaws (some irredeemable!), who live in a small town where they don't have the luxury of choice with who they interact. I strongly disliked the dream sections of the game (tedious and made me dread going to sleep), and Gregg is probably the worst character in the story (though I still think Angus doesn't fit in at all), but the scars are intentional. I think their shitty, dysfunctional relationships are written in a very competent way.

>>
>>182772834

>>
>>182771771

>sometimes you really don't have a choice who you crush on, man

WHAT

If that's the case, their relationship can only possibly exist through sexual activity / attraction, and not love. That makes their relationship even more shallow, and terrible.

I also completely disagree with your assessment about Bea. She is social enough to be a part of the Young Tur--rather, "Young Socialists," and even gets invited to college parties. Also, even though I kind of hate Jackie, she seems to really care about Bea. I believe the relationship between Jackie and Bea WAY more than I believe it about Mae. Mae even says stupid, hurtful shite to Bea all the time. The only person who seemed really concerned about Bea throughout the whole story was Jackie. Mae is an abusive, terrible, lazy, self-absorbed jerkoff. Bea had no need for Mae. Their relationship should either
A. Be repaired because Mae gets over herself and grows up (doesn't happen)
B. Fall apart because Mae refuses to get over herself (doesn't happen)

Once again, I'll reiterate my point about Bea and Mae. Their relationship can only possibly go downhill, yet the writers thought it believable for their relationship to be magically fixed even though Mae makes no meaningful change or growth. Who exactly failed to "read into" their relationship, here?
>>
>>182774219
Who are the Young Tur?
>>
>>182774497

It's a meme about the Young Turks
>>
>>182773103
I mean, the game starts off introducing characters and the problems and issues in their lives and relationships, which if you're a faggot like me you'd start caring a bit about said characters and interested in how their problems play out
And then once that stuff's all fleshed out, the game just throws that to the side and says "hey there's a spoopy murdercult wait nevermind they're gone", and then game just ends right there
Really just gives a feeling of "Wait, that's it?"
I've heard the game was rushed and a day or two was cut out of it, and the way it ends really feels that way
>>
>>182772917
>>182772519

>>
>>182774629

>>
>>182774219
Their relationship isn't fixed, you dumbass. It will never be the same as it was before. They've just come to terms with that. They're still gonna argue; are you such a retard that unless they show you things happening on-screen you cannot infer that they will happen?

Proximity counts, and Mae is close. Relationships fall apart and then come back together. Happens all. The. Time -- to the point where it's a normie meme for a couple to constantly break up and then make up. You'd know that if you ever got outside. Jackie's a better friend than Mae, but she doesn't live in their town. Bea can't afford to go out to those parties all the time. Mae is there. That's the entire point of their subplot and you seem to have missed it entirely, so it's still you that can't read into their relationship.

I personally wish Angus weren't in the game and find Gregg obnoxious so I'm not going to defend their thing.

>>182774972
Probably. I liked the characters, but I also like slice-of-life; I'm not really concerned about wrapping things up with a tidy bow. Life goes on.

>Germ
>Selmers
>Cole
>Danny

Their relationship doesn't work. Your desperation for it to work doesn't make it magically so. Relationships that "fall apart and then come back together"

Well you're certainly capable of reading into what I say. It's a shame you're so braindead when it comes to the game.

I'm not desperate for anything, motherfucker. I think the shipping is dumb. But the creator of the game knows his characters better than you do, you dipshit. And Bea is definitely a loner; the fact that she goes to parties like ONCE A MONTH (and pretends they're not hers so she can blend into the background) doesn't change that. Everyone needs social interaction, even loners; but the fact is, she spends ALMOST ALL OF HER TIME ALONE. Which makes her a loner.

OF COURSE IT'S NOT A GOOD RELATIONSHIP! IT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP! THAT'S THE POINT! NONE OF THE RELATIONSHIPS IN THE GAME ARE GOOD BECAUSE MOST RELATIONSHIPS AREN'T! YOU FOOL!
>>
>>182775639
Well, like I said, the game focuses on the characters only just long enough to introduce them and make me care about them enough to remember their names and then immediately jumps off to the cult thing which itself is really not explained at all before it and the game just ends
I'd rather if they had just dropped the dumb murdercult subplot "main plot", I guess entirely and just focused on how the characters' relationships developed and how Mae deals with her mental problems and facing adulthood
The cult thing was just completely unnecessary

Is it shown when she hangs out with Angus and Gregg at band practice?

Is it shown when she (presumably) goes to hang out with the Young Socialists?
After all, socialists are known for being loners, right? It's not like they're known for mobbing together to make a nuisance of themselves.
If it was the intention of the writers to make her a "loner," they did a terrible job at suggesting it.

I'm gonna try to minimize my shilling as much as possible, but I made a video review of NITW.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGxQEeDL9VM&feature=youtu.be&t=13m49s

The last few minutes or so describe my biggest problem with NITW.

Did you know that I wanted this game to be good?

I wanted Mae to be a good friend to Bea: I loved her! I wanted Mae to help Gregg grow into a good person, instead of helping him act like a degenerate moron.

NITW had everything possible to appeal to me. I grew up in a dying town. I felt like I knew half these characters. I had mental health problems.

I tried to commit suicide multiple times in college.
>INB4 "you should have gone through with it queer"

Do you know what helped me? People told me to get over myself. I was (and still am) a self-absorbed manchild. But the less I think about myself, the better I feel.

Mental health issues of that nature (similar to Mae's own) are almost entirely rooted in selfishness and obstinate behavior.

A story where immature characters grow out of themselves is much more meaningful and powerful than a story with characters who remain eternal children.

Night in the Woods is nothing. It is a failure that had every right and chance to succeed.
