Just to answer that myself, when our house got cable as a kid, I stumbled upon a weekend Chinese video game show that had KOF 97 close its episode. That ran on for a good month or so and all I saw were Iori mirrors. At that point on I thought Mr. Kyosexual himself was the coolest motherfucker ever and sought out to someday play the games he was in. I vaguely remember playing KOF 95 as the very first KOF I had played. Was really, really bad at it though.

I think Yuri and Friends 97 was also the first h-doujin I've ever seen. Saigado, forever a legend.

You might want to post that question as it's own post if you want more answers, but to answer it the first thing I remember was playing the first Metal Slug at a mexican owned burger restaurant in the US down the street where I lived. I was like 8 at the time, so I sucked ass at it. Next to it there was an Aero Fighters machine, but that was the first one before the series jumped on to Neo Geo. I remember thinking the soundtrack kicked ass though. I do have some very vague arcade memories from when I was even younger and lived in Mexico, but the most concrete thing was adventure island or whatever the arcade version was called. I probably played something SNK related then, but I don't recall, I most likely did with it being Mexico and all.

Now that I think about it most of my arcade memories are from Mexican owned places in the US whether SNK related or not. First encounter with Bust a Move was at a mexican owned laundromat, same with MS3, MS4 was at a mexican store, my first encounter with World Heroes was at a different Mexican store. I don't recall which KoF was my first, but I'm fond of KoF 94-96 myself despite their flaws and me sucking dick at them. I still do to this day.

The first doujin I remember was a Saigado doujin too, except it was the Athena x bao one. The second one I remember was non SNK related, but it was loli 119 or 110. A year and a half ago I managed to import a bunch of KoF Saigado doijins including my first one.

Seeing the manhwa stuff animated would've been crazy, although I've only seen very little of it myself.

Every other of my SNK stuff was via Emulation, and one silly encounter with a Breakers Machine at a Mall Arcade. That and seeing KOF very often during college, seeing people be really good at XI and 2002 OG. Half of the players were trannies though.

I just try to buy what I can, but besides what I own and what I mentioned most of the SNK stuff I encountered was through emulation too. Although I don't own much and most of it was on PS2, except for MSX and CvS1 for PS1. I played the fuck out of MSX on PS1 despite its flaws. Although I have a little bit of a tragic history with it. For example my uncle gave me some shitty advice for cleaning up my MSX disc and me being young and stupid I believed him and ended fucking it up. My CvS has gone missing, I lent a friend my MS4/5 and never got it back, but I have his mario 2. I had to buy metal Slug Anthology 3 times, twice for psp bcause my first one got stolen psp and all, the 2nd UMD has disappeared and for ps2 some kid relative of mine chewed up one of the corners of the box and broke the plastic and cover. Those all really solid. People are more likely to suggest either Garou, Fatal Fury Special, 98. Word of warning though I remember hearing that 98 got its intro butchered on the switch for some reason. Personally I'd go for Galaxy Fight or Waku Waku 7 since I never really got to get my hands on those before or 94 out of out of my own personal bias/nostalgia. Some people may say 99 for the same reason, but it's really solid too. Samurai Shodown IV and World Warriors Perfect are really good too. You can't really go wrong with any of those.

I have a really good feeling that this was the neo geo classic that SNK swill be demoing at the Atlus booth. Sin this just dropped.

They are different series set in different time periods in Japan (SS takes place in the 17th century while LB is in the 19th). The gameplay is different too, I think the only resemblance is that in both most characters use weapons.

For me, I think it was either Art of Fighting 2 or Samurai Shodown. Those convenience stores near elementary school were an oasis for those who dared skip classes. Being an 8 year-old, I wasn't good at it, but I still liked to watch older kids playing against each other.
Then I got into kof95 and I still sucked, but it was a very fun game at the time. I remember spamming Ralf's vulcan punch was my best strategy to defeat my enemies and his desperation move input was impossible for me at that time. Good times.

The first encounter that I had was Metal Slug 4 at the local pizza hut. For some reason I fell in love with the game at first sight. I loved the sprites, and the zombie transformations scared me but they were so cool I loved it. My mom let me play a few rounds when we went and then when I had a really good day in elementary school, they bought me the Metal Slug Anthology for PSP and my God was it the best.

For me it was Samurai Shodown - I'd already come across FF and AoF, but SS applied a lot of ideas from both while doing its own thing, and the fact and relatively simple attacks like hard slashes could be game changers was pretty refreshing, not to mention the soundtrack - Wan Fu's music could have been a final boss track in a lot of other games, but in SS it was just another part of an alround excellent soundtrack - heck, Charlotte's opened me up to appreciating classic music, even if mostly the bombastic stuff like Beethoven.
