I'm playing EOIV for the first time and boy was the Maze 2 boss a leap in difficulty
I only won because of Wufan's Head Bind, honestly

Am I making a mistake by running no class with reliable binds?
(Nightseeker, Sniper, Arcanist, I'm assuming)

How long will Stigmata + Ecstasy last?
I've been cheesing everything that dares to look at my party, but I'm pretty sure it won't be effective by endgame and postgame.
>>
>>182145280
Sniper and Arcanists are the only ones with reliable binds - Nightseeker has ailments.

And while binds are strong they are not needed - you want them in the second maze since Hollows have +50 evade.
But they only reappear in the 6th stratum and in the 2nd maze you have Wufan.

>>
>>182145289
You can't kill the Rhino FOE in the fourth stratum, Ur-Child will annoy you and won't take full damage. That's it I think?
>>
>>182145289
With proper buffs Storm Emperor can be one-shot with Ecstasy even on Expert.
With Fire Palm and Fire Fantasia maybe even Blizzard King but I'm not too sure on that one.

Great Dragon, Hecaton and Ur-Child should be out of reach for a one-shot though.
Ur-Child is even immune against head binds so Ecstasy is weaker. But it is nice enough to restore your Force periodically so it should still work fine.

No binds + no good ails will cut you off from some handy tactics, but I guess you can probably compensate with good hard tanking and buffs. Kill randoms fast and lean on the Fortress for bosses, you'll be fine. I guess you're going:
L/F/D
M/R
which should be okay for the maingame. Those L debuff hits could be handy.
>>
>>182145437
Alrighty
Also, can I get the low-down on Resting/Retiring?
I'm running into a few things I might want to work around, as I'm finding heavy AOE damage to be a problem that Taunt isn't cutting
>>
>>182146773
Yeah, that's literally my exact set-up
>>
>>182146781
Retiring is back to level 1 for stat gains based on your previous level. It's mostly something left for postgame when the gains are bigger. If you have no plan to go that far you can wait for one of those limited use items that auto levels someone up (in the 2nd,3rd+4th strata) and just abuse those to gain a few free stat ups. Remember that you can't stack the same gains again. So If you retire once at level 30, then again at level 40, you will have exactly the same stats as someone who had just done the level 40 retire.

Resting just lets you reassign your skillpoints. It's good for when you open up Veteran and Master skills and want to dump all your points in the new hot shit.
>>
>>182147215
I'm going to play this until EOV comes to the west, essentially, so I'll likely hit the post-game
>>
>>182146781
Resting resets all your skill points and your subclass and costs two levels.
Retiring deletes your character and you make a new one with some bonuses (nothing stops you from using the same portrait and name again though). It's available from level 30 and the new character will get additional stats, skill points and start at half the level of the old character or 30, whatever is lower.
Retiring doesn't stack so just to it at 99 for the maximum bonus (10 points in all stats and 10 skill points) if at all.
>>
>>182147039
Taunt is good for monkeys/bears that punch one dude at a time, but later Forts are all about the Line/Party/Weak shields. If needed rest, then get those. Then buff your Forts defence, Rampart, apply the appropriate debuff via Landy, and you're set. Remember that the Runemaster buffs also improve your resistance to that element. This is a boss strategy. Normal mobs will be all about speed of killy, so build the Dancer accordingly
>>
>>182147594
Yeah, I'm gonna Rest my Fort I think
I'm out like 8 points in shit like Auto-Taunt and Element Guard that proved not useful, and with Vet open I can quickly see the value of a back-line Fort using Line/Party skills
>>
>>182147767
Taking hits for your party always treats you as if you are in the frontline - no backline damage reduction for these skills.
And you only get TP for getting attacked while in the frontline so you will drain your small pool quickly sitting in the back.
>>
>>182147949
They have seen through my entry-level plan, it seems
>>
>>182148025
Fortress is a bit weak in the mid-game but enemies don't hit that hard so it's not too big a deal.
Once you have subclassing and are 40+ they are amazing again.

Dancer's Fan Dance increases your evasion massively (don't take Speed Boost - their interaction is bugged and will completely didisable Fan Dance) and Guard mastery lets you deflect attacks.
Together you will ignore about half the attacks thrown at you. The Fortress passives gives you TP when you are attacked not only when you are hit - so evading and deflecting does not hinder your TP generation.
So you can throw out Party Shield, ignore many attacks and get all your TP back so you never run out of steam.

So who's Dick do I have to suck to get a decent female protector portrait? I have nothing against Loli portraits, but the fact that for the male portraits I get to choose between a shota/adult, but females are almost always two loli's starting to irc me for some classes.

I think only the dark hunter and Hexer avoid this. And War Magus and Gunner got hit the hardest by this. I just want to run like two teams of adult characters. Where is my Amazonian shield toting protector or scarred busty Ronin in EO2?

Shame there's no Earthrun shota to become Cestus McLargehuge.
>>
>>182154210
If you are counting male Dragoon 1 as young male Cestus 1 should also be young. Maybe not full shota but with white hair hulk Cestus can be his older version (that lost his tatoo)
>>
>>182154210
Brownie -> Cestus, clearly

But how does a Necrogirl grow?
>>
>>182154531
Yeah but Giant Cestus is not grandpa-aged, just adult or middle aged. So his younger counterpart should be younger than the redhead Dragoon.

Though I guess you could pretend the Cestus is old and just really really fit.

> Smoke bomb herbalists
> Hounds sharing passives + basic commands
> Warlock triggers Common Magic for next Warlock

It has a super strong damage build that goes to shit when the opponent resists Bash/Fire, because that's all it can do. But it also has the ability to duplicate its last Guard for 2TP and fill a whole row with jerkass autosummoned pillboxes. Sounds awesome.

I think the the portraits for Dragoon (Grandpa and Eyepatch) just look so much better than Fencers

Newfag here

Can you guys hit me up with some dungeon crawlers recommendations that I should play before I geting into EO? I heard EO has so many QOL improvements that I'm afraid it'll make older dungeon crawlers hard to go back to, so I'd rather experience them now.

Ideally I'd start off with early dungeon crawlers from the 80s but recommend me whatever the fuck.
>>
>>182160526
Literally just play EO, it's not related with any dungeon crawler aside from general concept
>>
>>182160526
I'd second >>182160659

EO is different enough in concept that older crawlers don't lose much.
Wizardry for example is all about hazards which if they exist in EO are usually a part of a puzzle - especially in newer EO titles.

Just to Echo everyone just pick up etrian Odyssey and learn this game. Older dungeon crawls have different structures to their games despite all of them being first person dungeon crawling experiences.

However asked for my background with the Jabra I first got into it with the dark Spire for the Nintendo DS and I still feel like that is a very good game to start off on if you're new to the genre and you want to experience a slightly old-school feel.

Now as for a question to the thread which each tree and odyssey would you consider to be the best one to start off on? I'm partial to recommendING the original EO2 to new players.

>>182159928
Therian LUC is not that terrible.
I think losing the STR would hurt more than a slightly lower crit rate.
>>
>>182161637
I'd recommend neither EO nor EOII - they are fairly far away from what the series has become and EOII is a technical nightmare. Lag so hard the very essence of the game breaks and you can get encounters while turning is the very least that will happen, worse things are very likely.

For a smooth entry into the series I would say EOIV since it's the least pure dungeon crawler so you might find more things familiar to you. And it's the easiest of course.
For a more pure view of what EO is the first Untold classic or EOV are pretty good. In the case of Untold starting with Standard is not a bad idea though.
>>
>>182161708

>>182161786
Well at level 99 Therians have +15 STR but -38 LUC. My understanding is that crit chance is based on relative LUC compared to the enemy, so that might well be a huge deal.
>>
>>182162551
They are my wives and I will impregnate them anon.
>>
>>182161708
>>182162858
You have been talking about this for some time now (assuming you are the anon spamming this).
Just get it over with.
>>
>>182162662
Formulas vary from title to title and afaik no one has yet datamined the crit formula - but you are very likely right since this is how it worked in the past.

The final boss has 170 LUC and a Eartrun peerless Masurao has 171 base luck.
Masurao ultimate armor has all stats (including LUC) + 5, there is an accessory with + 30 LUC and a hat with +7 (or more realistically a pair of boots with all stats +4 - the hat is early game gear). The only katana with LUC up is midgame so it does not matter.
And there is the race passive that offers LUC.
So all in all there is a lot of difference you can create between even the final boss and and Earthrun - so it might actually make a noticable difference in crit rate.
>>
>>182162146
If I was recommending somebody to the entire series I think two would still be a better starting point since it gives you a good middle ground between 1 and 3. As well as providing an improved interface for skills and some mobility improvements for dungeon crawling. I can't say I noticed the lag you're talking about but I would be lying if I didn't have the game forget I was drawing a map at the same time that I would get into a fight.

How do you feel about EOIII? And having not played 4 it's a shame to hear that it has lost some of its spirit as a dungeon crawler.
>>
>>182165151
During certain quests the game would check if you have managed to fulfill them after every single step.
Together with the fairly demanding 3D models for the walls and some particle effects and other shit running in the background the DS got pushed to and even slightly past its limits, resulting in horrible lag as long as you had the quests active.

EOIII is closer to what the series has become with many important changes. But I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point over the 3DS games.
If you only want to play the DS titles the other two are an annoying step down from EOIII in many regards but it's probably the best to show the series in a good light.
>>
>>182166532
So I've been holding back on the 3DS versions. What exactly have they done to the series? How much off base has the dungeon crawling aspect gone?

The Untolds, outside of chatter heavy story mode, have better and more intricate dungeons than the originals. But, and it's a heavy but, it has "Floor Jump" which lets you teleport between already visited stairwells. That changes the feel a fair bit. IV doesn't have that, but the dungeon is divided into a bunch of smaller locations, and the total of all those dungeons is a lot smaller than the traditional labyrinth.

Probablyworth saying that in battle, and in terms of character builds, shit is a lot more sophisticated than it used to be, The quality of life stuff and better balancing are massive
>>
>>182165151
>has lost some of its spirit as a dungeon crawler.
It didn't lose anything and only purist autists are mad at changes
>>
>>182166751
EOIV has an overworld and side dungeons and the main mazes only have three floors.
It is different in many aspects but I still enjoy it.

The Untolds are remakes of EO and EOII. All maps and classes are reworked and I think in many cases vastly improved.
Besides the classic mode that is just like EO has always been they have a story mode with a fixed party which locks several things behind it.

EOU story has the new Highlander class and the Gunner class from EOII as playable characters but you can create neither at the guild - so if you want these classes story is your only choice.
More annoyingly the new 5 floor side dungeon (which you enter through a menu and not through an overworld) is restricted to story mode. So Codex completion in classic alone is not possible.
Also for whatever reason the best katana is restricted to story mode despite no story character using katanas natively...

In EO2U only the new Fafnir class is locked behind story mode.
Princess (renames Sovereign) from EOIII makes an apperance but those can also be created at the guild.
The side dungeon can also be entered in classic mode.

The upcoming EOV has no overworld, no side dungeon, not even a sea map - back to the roots.
It doesn't even have any old enemies besides a single cameo.

>>182168042

>>182168753
First turn he will roar at you for damage and stun - if that's too much to take to the face just Defend to cut the damage in half.
When he takes his stance he is gearing up for his big attack three or four turns later - if you damage him enough during this the stance will be broken and he just wasted his time for nothing. Elemental hits are the way to go.
For a tiny bit of additional damage you can put your Medic in the front - while the bear is in his stance he will do nothing else so its safe. And switching members around does not cost a turn or anything.

If your damage is just way too low defending when his big hit comes in should help you survive.
>>
>>182169267
Thanks I'll try him now
>>
>>182167661
So if I'm not interested in the story mode for the untold games I can just skip those entries but will miss miss out on a reworked classic mode? That's going to suck a little becsuse i wouldnt mind a revisit to the azure rainforest, but I think I can just move on to the next numbered entry if that's the case.

>The upcoming EOV has no overworld, no side dungeon, not even a sea map - back to the roots.
It doesn't even have any old enemies besides a single cameo.
I liked the sea map and the overworld idea I saw being present in IV wasn't a turn off. Sea map was also cool shame it wont be back.

>>182167578
Really I just don't want these games to turn into JRPG's if that makes sense. Even though I usually only run with a single team each game losing those periods of experimentation and losing the ability to tell my own narrative of what happens would hurt the most. I really did buy into the whole "use your imagination" line back with 1 and it shows that I remember more of the made up intreactions between my guild mates and the NPCS than other linear RPG stories. You could say I play Etrian Odyssey games for their stories to some degree. It was the same with the dark spire as well.
>>
>>182170528
>So if I'm not interested in the story mode for the untold games I can just skip those entries but will miss miss out on a reworked classic mode?
Nah - just because story mode is there doesn't mean you have to interact with it to enjoy the Untolds.
They are essentially new games since the balancing and maps are completely different.
Storymode just offers more stuff than pure classic.

And to say it again: The only thing EO2U locks behind story mode is the Fafnir class.
You can enter the side dungeon and complete the codex in EO2U classic and you have 13 classes (14 with the highlander DLC) to choose from.

Are you talking about the Dinogator in Scarlet Pillars? Crimson Steppes does not sound familiar at all.

If you mean the dino with the two tails you need to lure the sheep northeast of him closer to him by dropping a mushroom between the two.
The sheep will notice it, get closer and eat it, the dino will notice the sheep and leave the cave unguarded.

Reaper A still seems like a worse everyone else but Reaper B is a great support unit.

Brittle Miasma + Clinch is a triple bind on everyone and then its just debuff and basic attacks to chain with my Nene Fencer. Miasma weapon is always up since I have the proc on debuff passive so I can heal whenever I need to.

Its an Earthrun Reaper for now for the portrait but later I might switch to a Brownie Reaper for stronger heals with the ultimate scythe has a 300% AOE fire spell.

Class system + reclassing is pretty damn fun in EOV. Specialties are more like having 20 classes though than subclassing desu

desu Dodge Fencers aren't even that much better than just a Bunker. They do the same things but at least the Bunker doesnt die when it gets hit
>>
>>182173014
Not in any game currently available in the west.
Thankfully in EOV it changes but right now all that matter for TEC damage is, well, TEC.
Healing also usually uses TEC but in EO2U it uses TEC and VIT.
So just go for the staff and accessory with the most TEC and ignore anything else.
>>
>>182173382
Get Pillboxes that can be set up passively just by using Guard skills and they will even hit back (but have less aggro and defence than Bunkers).
>>
>>182173583
also since the bunkers/pillboxes are on different rows they technically negate line attacks
>>
>>182173085
Reaper A poison is pretty strong since poison scales with level.
And Scythe of Cold Ash hits like a truck - only problem is TP cost.
>>
>>182175053
Poison is always strong at the start of EO but then it falls off when you can just do way more damage normally. Its nice in random encounters but you'll have to dump a lot of points into preemptive weapon to have it while its still good.

Scythe of Cold I don't too much because you need to proc a status effect which can be miserable on certain FOE, or bosses which will just outlast your afflictable ones. I wish they just made it so Scythe of Cold just needed Miasma weapon or something.

The Miasma weapon mechanic is the weirdest thing for reaper since the skills you think would need it dont even need it

>>182175949
some testing later, Scythe of Cold does actually hit pretty damn hard but I feel like you'd need to build the entire party around them which is also kind of suboptimal. The TP cost is a real issue, a Therian Reaper would be best since you want full offensive but then you lose the Reaper potrait which is unacceptable.

Honestly a Reaper B would probably pair pretty well with a Reaper A just because you want the Brittle Miasma. I've come to notice how most classes work together best with their other specialty.
>>
>>182177639
Poison is fairly accurate and Reaper poison is comparable to Nightseeker poison in that it actually deals usable damage to FOEs and bosses even later on.
While Brittle Miasma does of course help it is not outright necessary.

These EO5 classes look really weird and kinda cool. As a retard who's only played 4, can someone give me the rundown on what they do and which ones are any good?
>>
>>182227014
All ten classes get a choice between two specialisations after the second stratum (those can be reset by resting just like subclasses could).

There are also four races and after the tutorial mission (drawing your first map) you can reclass any race to any class.

Earthrun (humans) have high HP, VIT and LUC and good STR and AGI.
Their initial classes are Dragoon, Fencer, Reaper and Cestus.

Dragoon A is full damage mitigation tank - combared to a Fortress they don't pull damage towards themselves but rather reduce the damage the party takes. Their skills are very expensive for Earthrun bases.
Dragoon B has slightly less defences but better offense Their skills are cheaper and they can passively summon Pillboxes with will generate aggro on their own. I prefer them over A.

Fencer A is a dodge tank - they draw aggro to themselves like Taunt of the Fortress and then try to evade.
They have very little to offer against area attacks so they are not that easy to use.
Fencer B is all about Chains which are kind of like Links but way harder to use - the Fencer only readies an attack of one magical element (as opposed to Links which are an attack on their own) and once someone attacks their target with that element or stab they strike. They can strike multiple times if multiple people attack the target in the right way - but not for multi-strike attacks. Also not easy to use.

Reaper A has some damage and some ailments. They can work similarely to Nightseeker but are not nearly as easy to use since most of their skills need a specific buff called Miasma Weapon to work.
Reaper B is more supporty with some heal and some debuffs - one of which makes ailment and bind infliction easier which is nice.

Cestus A is about binds like the sniper but with lower base infliction rates and some interesting ways to inflict more damage.
Cestus B is about sacrificing their own HP to deal more damage - sadly they are often not worth it; there are better options to deal damage.

Therians (dog/bunny-eared people) have high STR and AGI and ok HP, VIT and LUC.
Their initial classes are Masurao and Hound (like renamed Rover in the localisation).

Masurao A is about equiping four katanas, dealing massive damage and dying to every attack in the game. Their damage output is great but they need to be kept safe.
Masurao B is about critical hits (even with skills like a Sniper) and can wear heavy armor so they are a stable member of the team. Damage is more leveled but at least they don't die constantly.

Hound A makes use of their hawk and is all about ranged damage. Notacibly most of their skills scale with their pet instead of their own stats.
Hound B uses their dog and is a healer/supporter and damage dealer hybrid with some debuffs, panic and leg bind.

Lunarians (elfs) have high INT (used for magical damage), good WIS (used for magical defence and healing) and LUC.
Their innate classes are Warlock and Necromancer.

Warlock A is all about hitting weaknesses - they have access to all six elements and can safe up an element for one turn to throw out a combination attack (and more importantly get a small damage boost).
Warlock B is all about hitting for good fire, ice and volt damage

Necromancer A summons a lot of ghosts, Necromancer B sacrifices ghosts for damage (but they can summon their own ghosts as well).
Both of them are wierd with the only base class party heal (so the only one available until the third stratum) some debuffs, support and damage.
Great class but hard to put into words.

Brownies (small people - potatoes) have great WIS, good VIT and INT and trash LUC.

Their innate classes are Shaman and Herbalist.

Shaman A is an offensive support with some good damage options.
Shaman B is a defensive support with passive healing.

Herbalist A is a full-on healer like the Medic.
Herbalist B has some ailment skills that also debuff the enemies ailment resistance. They have one good damage option and petrification.

They have one skill that allows them to take damage for a single other party member for one turn.

That aside while Therians would increase your damage I don't think they would be that great - if something strong hits you and your defensive support goes down your entire party will crumble.
Recovering with your defenses up can be hard enough, trying that without them will often fail.

For Dragoon B I would use Earthrun - their skills are not that expensive especially if you leave Gun Mount at low levels (it repeats the last Guard skill at full strength and deals a bit of damage - only the damage and TP cost increase with level).
For Dragoon A you can think about a Brownie. They have good VIT and their phyiscal defence gets boosted by heavy armor anyways. And they have massive WIS meaning they can shrug off magical attacks.
They also have a nice amount of TP, second only to Lunarians.
Their HP is a bit lower but that is easier to fix than only ok VIT and terrible WIS.

At this point I want them to leave the mainline series alone because they drank the Soejima Persona Kool-aid too much.
>>
>>182258085
The big skill also takes two turns to use so it's not as big a hit as it looks like.
In addition the weapons of Dragoons also don't have the best Atk so running something risky like Therian will probably not pay off.

Better to increase big damage with a big hitter than small damage.

Not sure about Reaper as Therian at least not if Dragoon is your only source of ailments. Sleep gets dispelled on hit (although it doubles physical damage for that hit) and Curse is a horrible ailment that is deadly against you but does nearly nothing for you.
It throws back half of the damage the cursed character inflicts - your party has high damage and low life and enemies have high life an low damage so it's usually worthless to use.
With neither ailment being that good Reaper will probably want to inflict their own unless someone else has anything better.

I thought Persona was SMT?
Source: I have 0% knowledge of japanese rpgs
>>
>>182260546
Persona is SMT but SMT is not Persona - it's part of the wider franchise but there are some differences.
For example you actually recruit demons in SMT instead of messing around with cards to awaken them inside of yourself.
Also Persona is half a social simulator whereas SMT usually is an actual game.
>>
This all feels weird knowing EO5 is coming. like I like it but it feels like everything stopped waiting for it to get here
>>
>>182260546
>>182260546
SMT refers to Shin Megami Tensei; one of Atlus' longest running RPG franchises. It technically started with the NES titles of Megami Tensei, but the SNES titles are that really got things rolling.

Persona is actually a spinoff that arose from a title called SMT...if that came out towards the tail end of the SNES's lifespan and later they would revisit some of the concepts that game brought forth with Persona 1 on the PS1.

Persona 1 still being a first person Dungeon Crawl like the SNES titles but also trying new things like a more character focused story and obviously introduction of the persona/guardian system.

Mainline SMT titles are: Shin Megami Tensei I/II, Nocturne, SMT 4/A, And I still put Strange Journey on that list.

The number of spinoffs are interesting. You have the Soul Hacker Series, Raidou series, Devil Survivor series, Digital Devil Saga, Persona, Demi Kids, and I forget the rest but there are a few more.

But in short, Persona is a spinoff of the main SMT series and at this point they have little in common aside from people summoning demons.

Thank you!
Are they worth a try then? They seem to be popular

Persona 5 was my first one and its pretty good. As far as SMT goes i only got 4 and havent got past the beginning
>>
>>182261052
Kind of overselling it anon. It's not just the demon menu, it's fusion to create new ones, virtually all the skills in battle, the spread of stats on characters, combat mechanics where elemental weakness hits are disproportionately rewarded, arranging the party entirely around the player character. There's a lot in common - and most of the things they share are the things which make SMT distinctive from other series in gameplay terms [lore being its own thing and shit like moral choice systems being all over the place].

Yes. Now as for where best to start that is a topic of debate. I think DDS is a good starter because it's system reflects the Press Turn combat system the Post Nocturne games adopted. It's also a very solid duology of games.

You can go from there into pretty much any game in the mainline series just fine or just Jump into Nocturne and get your shit pushed in because the game is notoriously difficult.

Keep in Mind that SMT I and II are both good games but also early/mid SNES dungeon crawlers so their mechanics and interfaces haven't aged the best. Both are still worth playing in my opinion or at least SMT II is worth a visit.

>>182262090
But even factoring in the fusion systems and character stats Persona deviates in how those stats are effected by things and elemental weaknesses vary more based on the vintage of the game since that determines what system they use to govern weaknesses and followups. Persona 3/4 use the One more time mechanic, SJ and IV use a combo system.

I did undersell their similarities a bit I'll admit, but it's because even with similar stats the games do things differently enough to not really lump them together as much as I could say, Early SMT games and Soul Hackers.
>>
>>182262430
Fusion is about the only thing that stays consistent across any iteration of the games but like you said, that's what makes SMT anything different from other RPG's.

After SMTxFE, Apocalypse and IV. And the fact that all of the talent that made the early SMT games great have stepped out of director roles. I think the time to be an SMT fan is dead. Strange Journey was the last good SMT game and Atlus decided not to make it a numbered entry and then drag it's corpse through IV like that made things better.

So I wanted to start the series by playing the classic DS games, but I wanted to ask first if that's a terrible idea or not. Is there any reason to play them over EOU/EOU2 or should I just play the untold versions instead?

Probably if you want to appreciate how much the games have changed for the best, but I still highly advise not to do that since they're glitchy messes with terrible balance. They feel old as fuck too.

Chain Fencers are actually really easy to use. It seems like the choices of chaining are limited but all you really you need is a Fencer and a Shaman and three of whoever you want. A Chain Fencer as long as people feed her attacks is strong enough to kill FOE without any trouble since Chain Plus and Double Chain really jack up her attack and her TP costs are extremely low . I'd suggest a Cestus for binding and a Warlock for Amplifier or a Masurao for Advantegous position + Armor Piercer.

Also you get Nene in your party

Untold versions are better in about any way possible

>>182264573
It's not a terrible idea per se but they are not quite what the series is now.
For one they are quite a bite more grindy and focussed on physical damage.

I wouldn't say there is any reason to play them over the Untolds but they are fairly different games - the remakes are not just a new coat of paint but their very core has been changed.
Class balancing is different and all maps have been reworked. They have the same story (on which Untold story mode expands greatly to varying success) and have the same asthetic and theming for the stratums but they are really a different experience.
>>
>>182264953
Do the Shaman imbued elements work on skills or is it only for basic attacks?

its only for basic attacks but you need to think of it as this way, Chains turn all your party members into wrecking balls no matter how potato they are.

So after the Cestus is done binding or the Reaper is done debuffing they deal truckloads of damage through chains for no TP cost on their own. So a chain fencer party is very low maintenance high reward type.

Granted its still not as great as EOIV Linkers but that was way fucking broken. Also ironic that they wanted to remove those links but the Sanzu Masurao is maybe even stronger.

Dodge Fencers are kind of tricky to use though, its best to combine them with Dragoons which might seem counterproductive but if you Dragon Force the Fencer she'll pull all the aggro while the Dragoon can just focus on the cannon attacks or guard AOE when the time comes.

Sounds like a horrible plan to me.
So instead of throwing out Lead Blows your Cestus normal attacks bound targets and then gets a 200% damage hit as a reward while your Fencer basically uses their turn to enable that tiny damage on everyone?

The low TP cost might be kind of nice in random encounters but disallowing your party from actually using skills in FOE/boss fights just so Fencer looks less like dead weight is bound to make things drag on needlessly.

You don't need Fencer for Nene.
You can have Nene Dragoon, Nene Cestus, Nene Reaper and even Nene Hound, Nene Masurao and Nene Herbalist can work fine.
>>
>>182264953
I half agree. They sound straightforward in aciton, but given how one-trick they are there's no reason not to build the party around them. Shaman is, like you said, essential, at which point you might as well have Warlock gaining the same benefits, and Hound's range of procs off skills that are inherently valuable make them much better than the other fighters. At that point it's a lot less fiddly than dodgecounters, but that's 4/5 of a party

If it only works on basic attacks then I might as well just build a party around elemental damage and piercing skills so the Fencer can actually contribute without sandbagging everyone else.

I feel like people are not understanding how strong a Chain Fencer is, minus talking about things like Sanzu of course. So here's 5th stratum FOE that would be a red FOE if I wasnt mowing them down so quickly in the first place, dead by turn 3. You can see how little the TP bars have moved in relation to everyone.

The set up is
FencerB CestusA Warlock B
ReaperB ShamanB

Reaper uses Brittle Miasma, Cestus Clinches, Warlock Amplifies, Shaman enchants. Then the next turn is just 3 attacks + Warlock's Magic Weapon. The Reaper is completely interchangeable. Arguably I could do a little more damage with a Hound spamming Leg Pierce but I like having Brittle Miasma to ensure the triple bind on anything. Or literally anything really, the 4th member is one I've been constantly tweaking, could even throw in a Dragoon if I wanted Bunkers or a Necro if I wanted to make it Picnic mode.

>>182267813
So in this example, my Cestus used Clinch, and then attacks twice and the FOE is already dead. Clinch Interval Lead Blow is 65 TP . And I'm not saying I'd never use Lead Blow, I'd probably use it on the Stratum boss but anything I fight already dies by turn 3 to chains. And the best part is that the Cestus doesnt even have to be a Cestus, I could have a Herbalist Potato doing 4k damage in auto attacks
