I want to illustrate my issue with the current loot system. Take gloves, for example. There are six different combinations of stats you can get, of which I aim for one. There's a one in two chance of it rolling with increased grenade throw distance. There's a one in eight chance of it rolling my preferred loader perk. And about a one in five chance of the stats being high enough for a T12 build.

That is a one in four hundred and eighty chance that I'll get a great gloves roll. Given that a raid only drops a particular armor slot about half the time, and I can only get one chance a week, and there are fifty-two weeks in a year, I would have to raid the same raid every week for eighteen YEARS and twenty-four weeks.

Assuming you can get two legendary gauntlet engrams in an hour of grinding heroic strikes with friends, you can get a great set of gauntlets after two hundred and forty hours of straight strike grinding (if you haven't died of boredom yet). As long as you're fine looking like a clown. If you want to assemble a specific set for fashion, you're going to have to run through the the twenty or so different gauntlets that can decrypt. So, you know, four thousand eight hundred hours of power-running heroic strikes. If you spend 12 hours every day running heroic strikes, it would take you four hundred days to do so.

And, thanks to the magic of statistics, that's all on average. See, half the people will have gotten their stuff by then (or in less time, the lucky fuckers). But half the people will take EVEN LONGER. The current loot system is ass. The current loot system is shit that came straight from the grindiest of Korean MMOs. Fuck the current system, and fuck everyone who supports it.

I personally think adaptability, map usage, and smart team play are more important for competitive play.

I'm not worried about the customizability for subclasses personally, because I think it will be outweighed by how much more balanced and viable different builds will be.

The big concern for me, just like everyone, is whether or not they decide to keep the TTK subclasses. As much as I would like 3 new ones at some point down the line, shipping with 6 subclasses again, each of which only has 2 configurations, would really fucking suck.

I know the D1 system is shit, that's why I've been going on about primary/spec/heavy reload instead on gauntlets, primary/spec/heavy ammo on chestpieces and armor rerolling from fucking TTK (pic related)
but in D1 there is an adequate number of decent looking pieces per slot and any one of those could roll what you're looking for
if you don't have the exact piece, you'd most likely have another decent-looking piece that would have that

again, I was hoping that armor will still be randomized in D2 with ammo being removed (ammo perks being the most difficult to perfect on chest and leg pieces)

Doubtful. The "chase" was for a specific setup and only those setups, and people bitches about how the meta "forced" these things. People were already restricting themselves. Same with subclass setup and perks. With gun mods with slots, as well as more streamlined trees that incorporate more functionality to the classes, you'll have a better chance at people running more than one build.

Kinda like how Defiance went about it.

Either way though, you can always end up in the same spot, most of the people will go for the easier, more powerful options, rather than trying every different mod, as they will first listen to whatever random person on the internet tell them which combo is the best before going put and doing it themselves. The drone mentality of just following the meta doesn't automatically change in either instance.

During the last 18 months statistically less than 7% of the active userbase actually participated in a Rumble match at any given moment (This is active crucible players, mind you, not overall player count) when it was not a featured mode, and even then the usage only went up to about 12%, an overall dip of 28% compared to when a different mode is featured. Almost half of all those matches had less than a full player count, and about a third of those had less than four.

In D2 we're heavily focusing on catered experiences, nothing is random. On top of that there is heavy pressure from Activision to make overall usage an even split between PvE and PvP because they want an Overwatch style lootbox mechanic.

That being said, the fact is simple, I'm not about to risk my job and my livelihood wasting the crucible team's time and energy on a mode that turns people off from crucible just so 7% of you faggots can farm rep in in a corner. A free for all style mode will come in when private matches are added in November, until then you can kindly fuck off because no amount of crying will change the fact nobody at Bungie gives a fuck about you and the 16 other retards on Reddit/Official forums crying about rumble.

Smith wanted an experience that provided "More teachable moments." He felt like people spent too much time not knowing what killed them and how. A lot of changes that you see have been made around that philosophy of wanting to make crucible as clear and concise to understand as possible in a more intuitive way. We had a counseling session with some Call of Duty map designers, we brought in some industry veterans, we're doing everything possible to make the PVP as far from chaotic as possible, the maps are now designed by crucible level designers, not by art team as was in Case in D1. The information is delivered in a more straightforward way.

And again, this is not to remove tension or mystery, that's why we don't show things like timers, but to make it so when you die you know why you die and what to do not to die in the same way again, or when you kill you know how to get that kill and have enough understanding to replicate it. 6v6 was simply not something that would allow for that feeling, and 3v3 made a lot of people feel claustrophobic, both in a team and in the maps, 4v4 was that Goldilocks zone we were looking for, and while it is an inconvenience when transitioning between PvP and PvE, its also a decision that was made overall to improve the enjoyability and ease of use of crucible overall.
