I also definitely agree that a lot of the people in the CoA are good people, but Fallout 4 only gives us three choices; kill them all, kill their leader and replace him with someone less crazy but leave the other crazies alive, and help them kill everyone else and take over.
I'd have loved to reform the CoA; make them less crazy terrorists. I suppose the closest you can get to that is replacing their leader, but still, there are other crazy radicals with them. Oh well, I guess.

But that's the same with all factions in this game really. Far Harbor is in the exact same situation with a docile leader and extremists (like Allen) jeopardizing things. Acadia is sort of in the opposite situation where DiMA is actually a the bad guy.

The new Tektus will keep them in check. You can talk to the people and while some of them are reluctant, they go along with it since it's atom's will. Others are more accepting "why should atom bother with one harbor anyway? let them have it".

We start walking, heading to the middle of the CIT ruins, our ears glued to the Courser station. Each step deflates Piper's optimism to the point where I pray we hear something, anything to lift her from the downward spiral she's approaching. And then I hear it, a single, weak beep.

Like a tsunami washing away the coastline, a smile surges across Piper's face, a beacon warding off the dark. Seeing her smile bakes warmth into my core, a similar smile spreading across my own face. In an attempt to hold onto my stoic self image, I look forward and away from Piper, clearing my throat. "Looks like it's this way" I say, trying to sound like the rock I feel the need to be.

Piper, ever the sweet woman she is, says only "Lead the way then, Pinch."

My internet was out all night. Sorry for posting this durring the day, I normally post in the deep night, so I hope I don't annoy anyone.

We travel half a dozen blocks, the courser signal gaining a higher frequency with every step. It ends up dumping us on the doorstep of the old Greenetech Genetics building.

We check our equipment, making sure Piper has plenty of magazines ready and I have a few drums prepared. With nothing to do but enter, we do.

This is the first time since that lunatic Pickman took my eye that i'm thankful for it. Since my depth perception is fucked, I've had to switch out my riffle with a shotgun. There isn't a better weapon for indoors in my opinion then a shotgun, at least in a building with long walkways and corridors.

You never really appreciate how specialized a shotgun is till the only way around a hallway is a straight 20 yard shot with not a lot to hide behind.

It appears this place is gunner operated, and the courser we are tracking is an uninvited guest. I don't know what kind of a monster this courser is, but gunfire and explosions blanket the building like snow in a blizzard. We slowly make our way up the building, clearing from hallway to hallway. Piper's really come into her own, I wonder if she even needs me anymore.

We slowly make it up the building and eventually come up to an open two story room with a staircase, and on the first landing is a elevator. Gunner's are spread out across the room, watching the elevator door as if by focusing on it what ever was on the other side would keep it at bay.

We would have had the drop on them if it weren't for my fucking eye. My shit depth perception bit me in the ass, and I accidently knocked an old dead potted plant over. The gunners swiveled on a cap, raising their guns in a manner that revealed good training and long practice.

There's no room for hesitation, I fire two shells into the closest gunner, ducking behind an old overturned desk. Piper fires, buying me the time to move while she back steps behind the door frame to the room. We take turns alternating fire, giving the gunner's no time to regroup. After she fires a few rounds, I pop out to keep up the tempo. After two sequences of this, the gunners are surprised to find a fragmentation grenade at their feet. At least it was quick.

We make our way to the elevator, liberating a few stims and bullets from the gunner's corpses as we wait.

The issue isn't GPU fidelity but rather CPU threading.
FO4 doesn't utilize your CPU worth a shit so those mods will always run poorly.

We make it to the top of the lift, and we can hear voices. Turns out the Courser has taken some hostages from the sound of it. He keeps mentioning a password for a door, and the gunner's keep saying they don't know but they only wanted to ransom the synth. The synth? The only synth that was supposed to be here is the courser, or so we thought. As we slowly make our way upstairs, the Courser kills the gunner's one by one.

We come upon him as he kills the last Gunner, the efficiency of a machine in the form of a human. He pulls the trigger on the defenseless gunners without a second thought or second's hesitation. The creepy bastard doesn't even turn around right away when he starts to speak to us.

"Are you here for the Synth" The courser says, slowly turning to face us. His face is human, but he shows no emotion one way or the other.

"No, here for you" I say, my index finger slowly sliding into the trigger guard from the safety position. "You have something we want."

"Something you want" the synth says, his eyes narrowing. "I have nothing you want."

"You do" Piper says, moving slowly to my right, next to the door frame. "We need the chip in your head."

"My chip? I'm afraid you can't have that" the courser says, his eyes flitting between Piper and me. For a short time, seconds become hours as we size each other up, no one raising their guns. Then it opens suddenly, like an explosion. The courser starts to raise his riffle, but i'm already dropping to a knee so I don't have to raise my shotgun any higher, just keep it level. Before the Courser can react he has three slugs in his belly, and Piper's let off half a mag in his chest.

The Courser stumbles backwards into the wall, crumpling in a heap.

I slowly get to my feet, holding up my hand to tell Piper to hold her ground. I don't know if these machine's are like us or just acting, and I want to know it's dead before I put her in danger. I creep my way over to the Courser's body, placing the barrel of my shotgun against his chest where a human heart would be and deposit four buckshot shells into his chest, looking for movement outside of the recoil of impact.

Seeing no movement, I give Piper the go ahead to approach. Right as she moves next to me, we both nearly shit our pants as shutters to a window we didn't know about next to us open, revealing a woman. Before we can even think about moving our guns she speaks.

"Help me, please! They have the code hidden under the staircase to release the door lock!" The girl says, looking from me to Piper. Piper looks to me, and I give her a nod. Piper finds the key quickly, opening the door. I let her talk to the girl as I pull out my boot knife, chipping away at the Courser's skull. Piper can talk to the girl, she doesn't need to see this.

It takes me some time to prize the chip we need out of the Courser's skull, the girl running out right as I finish. She takes off, saying thanks as she runs on by. I tip the courser over so Piper doesn't have to see the mess i've made, wiping the blade on his uniform.

Piper emerges from the room, looking shocked. This is the first time in a while i've seen Piper speechless. "Piper, everything okay?"

Piper bites her lower lip, seeming lost in thought. At my voice, she looks up, putting on a weak smile and nodding. "Of course, lets get out of here. We should head to Diamond City to get the Hazmat suits, we'll need them when we go to Virgil's." And with that, we leave.

We make our way back to Diamond City, the whole way Piper doesn't say a single word. I want to say something to her, anything, but I know that I will just fuck it up even worse. Seeing Piper like this eats at me, as if she is the sole source of the sun in my life.

It takes me feigning residual pain from my face to get her to stay in Diamond City long enough for us to sit for a spell. It takes me fighting every bit of sense I have to approach her, to try and figure out what's bothering her. "Piper,you know I've got you back no matter what. I can't do much more then listen, but I won't laugh and I won't bite. Tell me what's wrong?"

Piper sucks air in, like she just emerged from deep water. She hedges just for a second, the longest second of my life, before she gives me a weak smile, reminiscent of her normal self.

"That woman that we released at Greenfield... She was a Synth." Piper said, her gaze going to her knees. "She was captured by the gunners while running away from the Institute. They intended to ransom her for caps. I told her we had connections with the railroad, that we could help, but she turned it away saying she needed to survive out here on her own."

"Well, that sounds reasonable enough" I say, trying to make her problems seem as minor as they do in my head. "I know you've got a big heart, Piper. But you can't save everyone, and you shouldn't feel bad that you couldn't save her."

"That's not it..." Piper drawls, mulling over something, trying to pry something, some thought out of her mouth. "Pinch, do you know why I sought out the railroad, even though they are only interested in saving synths?"

I shake my head no, keeping my mouth shut. This is important to her, so I let her keep talking. "Before I met you, I wrote a piece about Synths, living among us. I thought I was doing what I should, informing the people... only I didn't think about how the information I put out would be absorbed.

"There was a man in town, a man named Kyle. He read my article and got it in his head his brother Riley was a synth" Piper says, still looking at her knees as tears begin to dribble down her cheeks.

It dawns on me that I remember this. I saw this right at the climax, right as I had entered town. "Kyle couldn't be reasoned with" Piper continued, struggling to keep telling the tale. "The guards told him to lower his weapon, but he wouldn't see... couldn't understand that I had no real proof who was or wasn't a synth..." Piper begins to give body shaking sobs. I put my arm around her shoulders, pulling her into me. She resists for a quick moment before burying her face into my neck, crying. "He was killed because I was reckless" She says throughout the sobs. "I was always serious about the paper, but now I have more reason then myself to continue. I have to help the commonwealth, not just for my sake but Kyle's as well. I owe him that much..." Piper says, her crying slowing in frequency. We stay there for a while, me rubbing her back, her crying into the crook in my neck.

Eventually I feel her tense up, and I release my hold on her. She pulls back a few inches, her eyes on my chest. I slip a finger under her chin, lifting her gaze to meet mine. "Piper... we can't take back what's been done. All we can do is move forward." With my thumb I brush away the remnants of a tear, my gaze never wavering. "I can't do much besides support you, but know this. Since i've known you, you've done nothing but make my life richer."

I look away, standing slowly. It takes all I have to keep my stolid composure as I adjust my vest, reaching down a hand to help her off the bench. "It's time we keep moving Piper. What do you say?"

Piper laughs, a nervous chuckle as she dispells her anguish. Standing, she says "Lets go Pinch, we have more work to do."

it will look better in the imgur. I've been planning this point for a while, and it feels good to get my thoughts down as to what motivates Piper to keep getting stories. I hope I didn't tinfoil her motivations too much.

Question about fallout 4 mod - visible weapon. Can anyone suggest how this mod works? Is it easy/straightforward or is it complicated? I thought you need to 'craft' a slot, and then craft the 'weapon' to put it on the slot for it to appear? Despite how stupid Bethesda is for not putting this feature in (even though they have it in the previous games), is it worth the time to have this mod installed?

Just finished Far Harbor for the first time and I loved it, easily the most fun I've had in Fallout 4, but my character's ended up becoming true neutral/neutral good, it just makes no sense for me to be a raider, I'm considering just going there to kill the raiders, explore for a while and never touch it again, thoughts?

The first bullet I take in Fallout is from fucking Ian, nice shooting fuckface! Enjoying the game so-far although getting used to the interface is pretty rough. I wound up after giving a tail to the doc for testing, I wanted to sell the others for cash so he could heal me, but instead I wound up "selling" a bunch of radscorp tails to him without specifically asking for his money (yeah, it was a good trade for you dick, I gave you a bunch of shit). That's not how it works. That's how modders try to add the functionality back in using armor pieces, but that's not how they did it in previous fallout games. For example, New Vegas had weapon mods, and holstered weapons. Not as many as FO4, but they still had like 4 mods per gun.

Well, I mean they did. You're changing the visible weapon model every time you add a modification. A single weapon in this game has a shitload of models that correspond to it.

They'd have to do that again, except as a wearable piece. It's why holster mods usually don't bother with modifications and instead just show a base weapon, or duplicate your current weapon into a separate armor piece you have to manually equip.

The weapon on back is the same 3rd Person model as the one you see in your hands. They wouldn't have to do it twice.
I made a ton of personal additions for modded weapons to have a visible weapon on back by simple taking the 3rd person mesh, making an apparel out of it and adjusting it on the outfit studio.It's really not hard.
I can only assume they couldn't get it to work because of console parity, but then again holsters worked on previous games too.

Settlements lads?
I've posted this one before, but I've made some changes, mostly the Arena, which was inspired by that one dudes computer melting sanctuary settlement.
Shame it will never be used the way I designed it (there's a underworks with which leads to a sidealong building with a robot workshop). Maybe i'll host robot fights like that one anon did with enemies fighting.

Anyways, at this point it's dipping my FPS to mid thirties in some places, so I can add any more. All of the houses basically just have beds in them which is a shame. Gonna see how a few streetlights affect the FPS and then probably call it done after spawning in some settlers.

All you need is Armorsmith extended because of the Keyword extension, but i'd assume you have that anyway because so many mods depend on it.
Then all you do is craft the apparel on the workbench of spawn it through conole and use the the settings item in your Aid-section to link the weapon with the apparel.
From then on a script will equip/unequip the holstered weapon automatically any time you pull out the weapon.

You're seeing an area where I have some animals in cages, which is supposed to act like a area where I'd imagine trappers would bring animals for the arena. Going to add some cages for slaves, with the slave animation rugs as well. I got it to work, but it crashed because apparently i do not have neither M9 or Trinity shotgun mod. Since I'm using Horizon, kind of leery of using weapon mods like that. Is there an optional plugin for holstered mod to not use modded weapons?

I use LOOT without any mod manager and I do fine. It has it's flaws and you can't just expect it to fix everything, you have to put some work in with your own metadata so LOOT can be more efficient, but it's useful for a general sorter. It would be nice if you could manually sort load order in FONV though, even if just the shitty one in the launcher.

I don't know. You gain Caesar's legion rep for doing it I think, plus the legionnaire duster. But in the long run after the Legion wins in the Mojave the Long 15 will no longer be a valid route into California due to the radiation. And the Divide obviously can't be used so I don't really know how the Legion will be able to do a large scale invasion of the NCR.

Well I can tell that you've haven't given this topic much thought at all.

The accepted counterargument to this is that Father realises that gen 3 synths are more than machines (some scientists in the institute openly express this anyway and this is further supported by how if you chose to destroy the insitute father still begs you to care for the synth child version of him as if he was your own son, why would he care if he didn't think gen 3 synths were people?)

The idea is, father realising that he's going to die very soon decides to construct a replacement that will carry on his vision, he realises that he has to be sketchy about this or otherwise the rest of the institute will find out about it, so he chooses his frozen parent/dead parent (some people believe that the sole survivor actually died along with the rest of the vault inhabitants) and makes a synth clone of them, he fills the SS synth with plenty of reasons to track down Kellogg and the institute with implanted memories and staged experiences so that eventually the SS will arrive at his door sharing his vision and ready to take over the institute, if the player disagrees and joins another faction then Father considers the plan a massive failure, if the player does join the institute then it's a resounding success.

This theory sounds quite unbelievable but when I got to DiMA, it was clear that Bethesda were giving the player the choice to decide on their own there's load of other stuff as well, such as Nora's unexplained combat skills, the fact that prewar Sanctuary has tons of minor discrepancies from postwar Sanctuary, Kellogg's monologue making no sense (referencing Father while father was still a baby), why the sole survivor survived at all, and a sensible reason for why Father would bother releasing the sole survivor from cryostasis in the first place.

He never mentions this though when he debates killing off far harbor as if it's a non issue, and personally I don't see why he can't just construct a path of fog condensers from the port to Arcadia in order keep out the animals.

Getting rid of the CoA would also help manage the fog which would also help Synth refugees by reducing the number of insane trappers and creatures who'd intercept the synths on the way to Arcadia, but he doesn't bother because he realises that they're people too.

I can't speak from gameplay expirience but looking at it in the CK it's clear that recruiting a automatron temporarily adds it to the companionfaction, same as all vanilla followers so i would assume they are affcted.

The mod has disappeared altogether from the Nexus. The author's response:

Give me that bottle is one I'd recommend for sure. It just makes getting water less of a chore and makes it more realistic.

You might also consider one of the mods that lets you use camping equipment. I don't use any because I like having to find somewhere to sleep but weight limit considerations might make that more enjoyable though.

I also use darker nights for muh immersion and realistically lasting alcohol. It can be a real benefit for a bit of extra strength when you get tired and become over encumbered without any buffout.

First time playing F4 and need help. I was busy with a quest and too deep into it to leave when I get a notification that Sanctuary was being attacked. Decided not to defend it and I show up and my buildings are destroyed. Crops were easy to repair, but how do I fix my buildings? I've got valuable floating power armor where a warehouse used to be and I can't get to it.

That'll teach me not to ignore settlements being attacked.

There are more non-radiant quests in it then Fallout 3.

Also, given that 200 years after the war, California is only at slightly above 1million people, after having been at over 40 million before the war, the entire state of Massachusetts would only have like 169,000 people in, in the whole state, and not just the small playable game area.

There really shouldn't be a lot of people, or a lot of quests going on, given the lack of people make the need for things quite small.

Fallout 4 has better shooting mechanics then Fallout 3 and NV, meaning you can actually play without VATs.

Junk items are actually useful since you can scrap them for parts to build shit.

The game is, in some ways, far more balanced then previous ones since you can no longer get every skill up to 100 long before you finish leveling.

Power armor feels like power armor in this game

Companions are slightly better since they are no longer just robots who only say things at a very limited number of trigger points, but instead have dialogue for almost every quest in the game.

Faction relations are handled better via scripted triggers, so you can actually sabotage factions behind the scenes rather then magically getting a "X FACTION NOW HATES YOU FOR THINGS THEY HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING YOU DID!" message like you got in New Vegas.

Overall weapon diversity is up since you can mod the hell out of weapons, though weapon model numbers are down since you only need one base weapon to mod it into a million others.

I think my main problem with NV's gameplay is that you unlike most FPS you need to move your mouse a slight bit before the game moves your aiming spot.

I find myself waiting for targets to come across my crosshair rather than trying to aim at their heads, and if i try to move it precisely i end up overshooting it and having to wait in a single spot for a character to walk into the crosshair again so i can get a headshot

Its a weird way of explaining it but i think that's exactly what i hate about NV's gunplay, your aim doesn't exactly move with your mouse cursor, it feels like its trying to keep up with it, unlike FO4 where your aim will be exactly where your cursor is.

They have no reaon to leave Diamond City, Goodneighbor, Bunker Hill, Vault 81, or any of the smaller farming settlements, as the system they have in place already provides what they need

So I've realized something Fallout 4's writing is shit not only because it isn't fleshed out, but because they written themselves into a hole with each quest.

That is the point, because the only other options is the dead end New Vegas fell into where the onyl credible threat is a nation as large and as powerful as the NCR, and with that out of the way,m there is no enemy left to fight i nthe entire western U.S. so they have to nuke everything and start over.

By keeping the factions small, by not making them into idiotic, simple minded, "nation" builders, they can make up an endless wave of new threats, since the threat never has to be that large to make it credible.

They could have Maxson's BoS appear in every future Fallout game from NYC, to Philly, to Miami, to New Orleans, to a game set in Texas of Chicago, and any threat they make up will still be credible because Maxson's BoS is only about 500 people large, and has no desire to make a nation.

It's called thinking ahead, something Obsidian failed to do in Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas.

"Purely anecdotal". I mean, I dunno, the point is it's effective. I don't see how it could not be because I have the reflexes of a drunken pregnant holstein.

If I can kill deadly shit with it, I fail to see how anyone else has problems using it. And I just personally find it more satisfying to use, because the melee weapons (insofar as the hammers and machetes) feel like they have "weight" to them. There's a bit of a delay when you wind up for a swing, and when you master that timing and hit that sweet spot and watch someone's head explode -- I mean, I dunno, to me it's way more satisfying than New Vegas' "swing at rapid speeds until the enemy is sushi". And shit, melee characters and revolver specialized cowboys were the only types of characters I'd roll in New Vegas, but in Fallout 4 at least the melee is so much better, to me.

The revolvers and lever-actions are shit, though, so no Commonwealth cowboy for me.
