I really like Ck2/Eu4 because of how deep and complex they are and how you can play them for hundreds of hours and still learn new stuff, I bought Stellaris in the sale after meaning to buy it for a while and after playing for a few hours it just seems really dull and boring to me. It's kind of like vanilla Civ 5 in space, it just seems really simple and boring so far. Paradox strategy games are usually really complicated though so I'm just wondering if I'm missing something or playing the game wrong.

The old vanilla Machu Picchu event happened only to Peru (not even to the PBC), and it didn't make much sense since it gave prestige to Peru for an american discovery. So I reworked it into a decision (the requirements for it to show will are in the "allow" section for now, the part about being a rank 3 or more GP, or a GP/SP in the americas). Also missing from the allow (potential) section is being any GP and having Peru in your sphere.

Ironically enough, you got a better description in the newspaper than by reading the proper event, that had a one-line description. The effects are unchanged - like the archaeological events for Egypt, it gives a one-off prestige boost. Multiple countries can search for the city, but only one will find. The of that does get prestige. Chance of discovery depends on a lot of things, from ownership of Cusco to neighboring/GP status.

The allow section of the decision will probably have a tech requirement too, once I decide on one.

What triggers the Civil War are actually two events: John Brown Last Raid and the Dred Scott v Sandford. They are both pro-abolitionist events and are completely out of your power. I did it earlier this week. I started like this:
Allied Tunis, started fabricating on Tlemcen and used best CB on Mzab, who's ibadi and is unlikely to get any allies within the first month. You can't take land, so I vassalized them. Mzab had claims against touggourt so I pressed them, vassalizing Fezzan who they were allied to.
Tlemcen allied Morocco, so I had to merc up like a motherfucker in addition to promising Tunis clay to beat them. After Taking provinces to Mzab, I was able to core touggourt/djerid provinces, so I took them. Then I fought Tlemcen and Morocco, while giving the iberian provinces to Castille when they declared. Second time they declared, I settled it with cash.
You obviously want an alliance with Ottomans, and fight Mamluks together with them. I got lucky with Portugal getting in a fight with Castille, and I was able to fight Portugal without any allies. Then I was swimming in money.

US starts with so much party loyalty that NFs do NOTHING, HPM did it this way to simulate the 1836 election, but it has the side effect of republicans winning every election.

Just fix it so it's not reliant on conciousness OR change the events so the "pro slavery" options don't increase conciousness in the South, because that makes the CSA declare.

Try slapping down conservative loyalty in the main liberal states like Ohio and Mass., and then rush nat focus techs to saturate the entire country with party loyalty. One of the main problems with the Vic2 election system is that it doesn't account for an electoral college system, but maintaining conservativism can still be done. Also make sure you pick your party's issues during an election, it makes it much easier.

Hello, HPM, I have some requests for you.
1. Align the state borders in Mozambique with the Zambezi river, so I can get a nice natural border for my Gross Sudafrikkkums.
2. Make some kind of event for Boer States (Natalia, Oranje, Transvaal) petitioning for annexation in the Netherlands if they have enacted the Make Amends with the Boers" decision. I had to waste 20 infamy getting Natalia, a two province minor, annexed, 3 for "intervention in Natalia" event against Britain, 1 more for successfully doing it, 1 for remove from my sphere, and a further 15 for justifying the conquest CB against a civilised nation.
3. Have some method of stopping the Germans getting Namibia as a South Africa player who doesn't want that to happen. I had to savescum 20 times just to stop Germany being given Namibia for free, when in reality a nation with control over the Cape and Walvis bay wouldn't allow that to happen.
4. Add an event for me to rename the South African provinces without actually having to form South Africa.
