Be aware, Thargs are currently grabbing ships out of witchspace and giving out complementary rectal probings, it is advised you shoot the fuck out of them whenever possible, or just go with it if that's your thing, I ain't tellin you how to live. Apparently the Ayylmaos are rumbling again, inquire within if this means goddamned thing or if its just Braben trying to scare up some more money.

I'm bumbling my way through this game right now and I'm sitting on 17 million credits. I pretty much just bounty hunt and explore, what ship and weapons should I go with? I have a Viper MKIII right now with 2 pulse lasers and 2 rail guns but I'm pretty stumped trying to figure out what the next step for me is
>>
>>181840942
Don't waste your money unless it guarantees you hundreds of millions of credits. For a competitive pvp ship with decent equipment you will need that few hundred millions. Yes, 500,000,000 credits.

In the meanwhile I think you could try to get Diamondback Scout/Explorer, not really sure which one is better. Don't take my advice about the ship too seriously. Just concentrate on getting more money so you can finally start to play the game.
>>
i'm on Merope 5C because I hear there are barnacles here to harvest

How will I know I found it? Do I just have to run into it? Outcrops only showed up on my radar when i was pretty close.
>>
>>181843058
You need to scan the navigation beacon with Advanced Discovery Scanner.

>Go to Alcazar's Hope on Merope 2A. (To save you scanning every planet, it's the 2nd planet from the sun on the system map, first moon).
From Alcazar's Hope you can see a Capital Ship hovering over a valley. The barnacles are underneath it; there are two sets; one spent, one fresh.

I think I'm going to launch ED after 2 month break. It's kinda exciting. Exciting in this lame and boring way because I know that fooling around for 30 minutes I will probably close the game and do something else. But shitposting on this general should be constant, keep up the stinkers coming in, we don't want to die before 750 posts!
>>
Why this happens from time to time? Disconnection from server?
>>
I am having the hardest time getting anywhere with elite dangerous, I've toyed with all the major jobs but I can't seem to break the 25 mil mark
I play on Xbox with 2 of my buddies and they are bounty hunters and I just can't get into that, it feels like there is so much more to do than circle through hazrez and claim your bounties when you escape a fight you can't win, I'm in a keelback with a fighter bay and it's not strong enough to fight, and it's not big enough to make mining profitable what should my next steps be if I want to achieve an anaconda
>>
>>181839017
Facing the mail slot is good for increasing your chances of getting into a station when smuggling or wanted with out getting scanned.
Unfortunately its way easy to avoided getting scanned even if you end up in the stations ass, I don't know when it happened but there is no challenge anymore.

>>181869027
I'm just wondering why the thread gets revived for 8 hours of shitposting before it dies again? Why not leave it dead until there is actually something to talk about?
Now we have several short threads in the archive with no discussions, just shitposting. Why not just go to /v/ and shitpost instead of dragging this thread along for no reason?

>>
>>181869127
I repeat, what fucking difference does it make to you? People want to post in the thread so they make the thread. You brain dead nigger.
>>
>>181869127
Usually there is a sense of community. Community doesn't stop to wait until there is a new patch... Look at /wowg/ for example, it never stops. You get the idea. There's tons of stuff to talk about regarding these games and space in general as well. I'm not here to talk about patch notes...
>>
>>181869127
You don't actually need to be on this thread. You can always read the patch notes from the readme.txt and stay away.
>>
>>181869276
>community
Community is what kept this thread going for over a year and a half of no content except for Grimhex and a couple of ships from CIG. We have been talking about the same exact content for over 18 months. No general does anything close to that. /pubg/ is already dieing, but they have the self awareness to realize it already. There is literally nothing to discuss except AtV and triggering all of you.

>>181869534
No argument, but what would be the fun if I couldn't shitpost too? I have just as much nothing to talk about.

I actually have to agree.
There is no point discussing anything because:
1. CIG aint listening to 4chan fags.
2. Nothing is set in stone so everything is just guess work at best.
3. We have no idea where this is heading until 3.0.

When 3.0 releases and we get some more insight into where this is heading, then we can start throwing shit again, because then we have something to aim at.

SCG is closer to Shitposing Community General
>>
>>181871745
The shitty part is there isn't even enough to speculate with. CIG presented everything in such a vague and disconnected way, it's hard to understand if we are getting something that will be a great game eventually, or if they are putting lipstick on a pig and 3.0 is a janky mess that's not worth fucking with.
The worst part is how dead this game is really going to be if this flops. I'm biased towards wanting it to win, but CIG's obvious stalling over UI features to drag this to Gamescom makes everything just that much worse.

was this based on their GPU-less dedicated server or on actual systems? they worded it oddly there, and i know netcode holds the game back but even i know to expect 30-40fps from most modes in 2.63. hopefully theyre not going too hard on the detail of these moon textures.

assuming 3.0 isnt just so restricted by netcode that it's barely playable, i'd hoped for better than 15-25fps

Why people think anything other than CIG bravely tackling some impossible technical issue before then is beyond me.

Seriously, we aren't even close. wtf is wrong with reddit and spergtrum?
>>
>>181900385
CIG isn't winning anyone over with this shit.
Why can't they just show people playing the game, without all the camera flyover bullshit? Just one small game loop, I don't get it.
>>
>>181907003
Because they have to hype people up for a release that is likely a month away or more.
>>
>>181907824
I mean, they have been talking about all the play testing that all the studios have been doing. Is the game so fucking rough that they can't show any of the play testing that has been going on for months?
It would be nice to see rough, unpolished gameplay that shows them doing the things they have been talking about. I find it hard to believe no one has seen what any of this is going to look and play like yet.
>>
>>181908387
They are going to hold shit back because they have to have new things to show on ATV.
>>
>>181907003
They did show this with the 2 cutlass' as well as frame counters in the top right. 15 fps stable on atmo entry which is very worrisome, and then 24 was the highest after landing on the planet getting on foot.

i'm just growing increasingly skeptical of whether they realize that a game running at under 60fps, let alone this 150 million dollar hype train, is not acceptable under any circumstance, and i'm really questioning how high of a priority the netcode is for them

literally nobody will give a fuck how cool 3.0 is if it's running at 15-25fps on a server with 4 cutlasses and 4 players, let alone a server filled with 20 starfarers that a bunch of assholes left floating around olisar
>>
>>181908936
At the risk of sounding like I'm defending CIG, maybe they could get a pass if the low fps is hardware chugging and not network. If it takes a Linus meme rig to run it and it's not netcode bound, that can be improved. If it's still 20fps with 30% gpu utilization, that's a problem. They have to be aware of how shit it is now.

>>181908503
They are literally delaying 3.0 for UI dressing. This community is so fucked for not being up in arms over stalling and bullshit that should be tiny patches once the core game is playable.
Delaying the game over character customizing when it runs 15fps will be the death knell of this project.

When I play ED I keep thinking an in-game web-browser would be really useful to pass the time.

Really wish they would re-work jump drives so it was more interactive and a journey "10 jumps away" was less an exercise in watching 10 different loading screens. I've suggested making it like the X series/Gemini "hyperspace tunnels" where the player has to navigate the ship in witchspace, fly around each star (game would not load the star system unless the ship was interdicted - ship shows up as a FAST moving contact, interdiction ship has a few seconds at best but much easier to target) until the ship reached the destination system. Something interactive and doesn't require uselessly loading systems the player doesn't care about.

if i could run any mode of the game at more than 45 FPS with 6gb VRAM (utilizing 4gb of that) a shiny new 1800x, and 32gb of 3200 DDR4 than i'd love to know how

it's clearly a network issue, the only thing that i find odd is that they want to show frame counters for their super controlled internal builds with 4 players on them (the actual 3.0 examples, made to be obvious that it's the actual ingame footage) , and then run an offline cryengine cinematic tool mode "gameplay demo" with a monstrous 64gb ram rig (IE the mode they use for basically every high FPS good looking "in engine" footage they've ever shown off - it's a mode that basically removes whatever isnt being seen and boosts graphical quality of the featured onscreen in engine camera, far far beyond what would be possible in the actual game - "in engine" is their cheeky way to make people think this is accurate ingame footage) and call it a representation of the game in the same video

theyre making their actual ingame footage look bad with 15fps in the corner, and then going on to make the fake cinematic mode gameplay look amazing in the same video, i guess theres someone dumb enough to not see the difference but god damn it's insulting when they don't explicitly make it clear that the cinematic mode footage is fake as fuck and nothing like what we'll be playing

>They are literally delaying 3.0 for UI dressing.
m8 go read the schedule report
They're not just delaying the UI because they want prettier graphics. The UI features that were delayed were almost entirely mobiglas apps for interacting with the world. AKA core features.

>stalling
Just admit you're butthurt because 3.0 is taking longer than you want it to take. It makes no sense for them to "stall" a patch like this. Imagine how much money they're going to make once 3.0 comes out with actual gameplay, they get a load of new players, and they can funnel all of them to the jpeg store during the next sale.
>>
>>181931740
Most of the items that are still open are UI and AI features that are not CORE gameplay. Mobiglas is not a core feature, they could easily have something already implemented for it(like the current fucking mobiglas) and update it later, but they are holding the entire patch for a star map that you don't need yet.
There is absolutely no fucking reason for them not to have a functional 3.0 that they could deliver. Delaying it so they can add customization UI for the characters and vehicles is just so convenient considering how close the next game con is.
Go ahead and tell me how polishing UI features on a 15fps alpha is going to make the experience that much better.

There are already 2 completely different ways to set your ship up. Why do they have to make a 3rd method before releasing the rest of 3.0? It makes no sense. One statement does not absolutely define a position. You really had to comb to get that one detail, but I will concede that I come from the critics position.
Based on the details provided by CIG, they have a low performing highly polished patched that is feature complete except for character customization and further AI development.
Given CIG's previous history and CR's bloodlust for game cons, it's pretty reasonable to assume they will have some huge blowout announcement to move jpegs.
CIG has never delivered anything early and has no real incentive to do so as long as people continue to accept the schedule without question.

I thought it was "stalled" due to the mobiglas and vehicle customzation, too? Get your story straight.

>Given CIG's previous history and CR's bloodlust for game cons, it's pretty reasonable to assume they will have some huge blowout announcement to move jpegs.
If they wanted to push jpegs, it would make the most sense to get 3.0 out a few weeks before gamescom, get some players, then show off some super radical far-future prototype gameplay of what Star Citizen will be in "weeks not months" and then launch a sale to collect shekels from all the new players. Your conspiracy theory doesn't make any sense.

>CIG has never delivered anything early and has no real incentive to do so as long as people continue to accept the schedule without question.
3.0 hasn't even been close to ready until very recently. In the grand scheme of things, a month delay on an alpha patch is completely meaningless. You're working yourself up over literally nothing. You act like CIG is trying to perpetrate some long con, which is absolutely insane. If Chris wanted to take the money and run, he would have done it a long time ago.

But Star Citizen's target audience is adults. If we're talking about selling jpegs for Chris Roberts' long con, then their target audience is adults with $$$. Those people aren't going to be able to play much during the week. One week isn't enough.

m8 I'm saying it doesn't make sense for CIG to be "stalling" 3.0 because, if they were trying to con people out of their money, they would have already released it. Or, at the very least it would already be in evocati. I'm literally making fun of goon conspiracy theories.

>it doesn't make sense for CIG to be "stalling"
It makes perfect sense to anyone with a calendar.
Launches are all about timing. The difference in revenue for CIG for getting it "right" versus missing a big sales opportunity is millions of dollars. If you think games work any other way, you can expect to be disappointed.
>>
>>181941975

>>
>>181942007
>Launches are all about timing.
No shit. But CIG isn't making their money from the launch of 3.0. They're making their money from the big-money ship sales after people get invested in the game.

That investment takes some time for dads with a checkbook since they can't play all the time. It would be ideal to have dads playing 3.0 for a few weeks, then drop a super cool 4.0 demo at Gamescom and announce a ship sale at the same time.

But that can't be what they're doing because the timing is wrong.
>>
>>181942184
>But CIG isn't making their money from the launch of 3.0
You have lost your mind. Look at the sales chart compared to the launch dates. Every time they update, there are new players. 3.0 has been the line in the sand for most hold offs, so the effect would be even more pronounced with 3.0.
This is a massive update and they are timing it to have 3.0 playable at gamescom and probably show SQ42 for the presentation.
Once the netcode and major subsumption issues were resolved, they could have launched and focused on smaller patches, but playing a month old patch isn't as fresh as playing the new hot shit going into hype convention with a huge announcement.

Are you kidding? Bethesda has never done anything remotely complex for their games. There has never been an attempt to push the technology forward, no attempt to make mechanics interesting and complex, nothing. It's just a continuation of bastardized RPG mechanics.
Explain to me what's complex about a scheduler for a few hundred NPCs, a combat system from the 90s, a world that divides most of the dungeons into separate loaded levels, a static game economy, a few randomly generated enemies, etc.
Popularity doesn't mean shit in this regard.

It honestly still baffles me. Like, he couldn't have been lying. There's no way he legitimately thought that lie would turn out well. There just fucking isn't.

I really don't think Chris is a liar. He's way too autismal to be a good conman. But, I seriously cannot figure out what the fuck was going through his head.

>>181945574
No source, just speculation. They won't delay 3.0 past gamescom, even if it means they have to push it out buggy and broken or remove more features. It would be a PR disaster if they had nothing to show at Gamescom. They'll get it into evocati soon for two reasons. One, to give people the progress they want to see. Two, to bug test the feature-complete things so that even if they have to gut more shit from 3.0, at least the stuff that they do release won't be a buggy disaster.

I like the idea that the paint system can change most of the colors of your ship, but certain base colors/details are determined by the ship itself. I was hoping that's the route they'd go to deal with ship painting and limited-edition ship variants.

Cutlass isn't a salvage ship. You can do basic salvaging with any ship that has cargo. But it's not "true" salvaging work. Just grabbing components and stuffing them in your cargo bay, really.
>>
>>181966257

According to them, any ship with some cargo and a tractor beam can "salvage" but I think they mean the tractor will just pull in some stuff while you are forced to do the cutting by hand. That fucking sucks because it takes time and you are vulnerable.

There should be a small/medium ship with tools. And no, the Reclaimer is not meant to fly solo.

Don't confuse salvage and recycling.
The Reclaimer can probably recycle stuff, but for smaller ship it is more efficient to focus on cutting part that still work.

Detaching a gun from a wreck and putting it in cargo? That's salvage already.
And if you want a salvager smaller than the Reclaimer, you might have one: the Crucible
Find 3 damaged fighter, repair ones, resell it.
If it have the ability to modify ship, they maybe it can strip off metal.

on another topic,
I wonder when they'll finally get on integrating snub fighters.
>>
>>181969116
>50k ship
CIG has already said that prices for ships are going to be greatly increased after launch.

Like, the rate might be $1 = 1000 UEC, so you migh think that a $100 ship would wind up costing 100,000UEC, but the prices are going to go up a lot. Buying a ship with real money now will be considered a good deal.

Ships are going to be fairly difficult to acquire. They want to emphasize upgrading your existing ship with new components, instead of outright buying a bigger ship. Bigger ships aren't necessarily better.

You already have tractor beam and cutting tools, you can't expect smaller ship to be able to recycle the hull, the Prospector will likely only work because mining is simpler and because you would pay a cargo ship to carry more of what you mine.

1.Yes
2.You can buy ships instead of earning them in-game

I was making a dig at all the skeptics from above in the thread who said that CIG wasn't stalling over UI to hold the release for better timing.
Now CIG delayed the release by another 2 weeks to hit Gamescom week perfectly. There was never any intention of having anything ready at the end of June or July, which was the first schedule everyone got hyped over.

>>

Conspiracy isn't the right word. That implies they were up to no good. I think the game is coming out. I think it is shitty of CIG to put on this fabrication and call it open development. This was never a real schedule that reflected CIG's internal goals, and the closer they get to gamescom, the more obvious it becomes, especially after how the game cons went last year with the vertical slice fiasco. Chris must have a constant boner thinking about how all this is going to fall together.

It's important to note that you'll only be able to earn ships with in-game currency once they add that functionality to the Alpha, and from what I've seen it doesn't look like it's coming in 3.0.

>>182010252
This is actually pretty common thing to move everything by two week segments. I have seen it happen in movie productions too. Not that my post changes anything but I suppose it's some kind of normal practice because 4 weeks is too much and 1 week too little so psychologically speaking 2 weeks looks just "right".

Meh, what dev would accept to be basically driven to bankruptcy just so another who will never recognize you or bail you out prosper?
And what dev would accept to be called a scam by another one while striving to not look like one?

Now we laugh about it because Dreck Smurt can hardly be taken seriously but at the beginning and for anybody who don't know he isn't a (real) game development it was damaging for CIG's PR.

I'm still curious of how Dreck will backpedal on everything but "financial accountability" if SC result in a fantastic hit.
>>

>I'm still curious of how Dreck will backpedal on everything but "financial accountability" if SC result in a fantastic hit.
He'll say he never thought it was a scam and was only skeptical but was always behind them making the game that's why he backed it originally but management forced a non-consensual refund on him for being skeptical only. But he will say he was glad they managed to overcome adversity and prove he was right that it would take more than 150million dollars and more than 5 years to make the game. Then go on about him holding their feet to the fire and taking the brunt of backer resentment for CIG's sake so the backers never turned on them.

In other words he'll paint himself as the hero they needed but not the one they deserved.

You think too highly of him, admitting Chris Robert did succeed at something?
My bet is he'll say it's no surprising with 150 millions, that they (Sandy) still embezzle of lot of this money to hire family and take holiday, that the game should have never taken that long, that if it wasn't a scam they shouldn't have "that much money left" (of course if CIG finish the project low on fund he would claim mismanagement).

But I agree, he will indeed pretend we should thank him to keep them on guard.

Do you think Sandi has any romance left with Chris or is it all just about money?
>>
>>182046426
Rich people get married for different reasons. Neither of them wear rings, and she doesn't use his name. Marriages can be generalized into romance, property, and status based, and I think they are more the latter. I imagine there is a pretty clear prenup that is updated regularly, as smart rich men would do.
>>
>>182046901
Yeah makes sense. I'm such a filthy peasant that concept of marriage is very distant to me.
>>
>>182047201
If Sandi was a trophy wife, she could sit at the house and do fuck all with no worries, but with a prenup, if she leaves she takes with her what she came into the marriage with. By being the VP of marketing and supposedly an actor, she earns her own take that would be hers if she left. Chris is way too smart to bet half his shit that she would love him for the rest of her life, he definitely got a prenup. That's probably why Sandi has resting bitch face.

Also, I agree with the anon above. 4/10 at best although turning the makeup down from Mimi levels was a good move.

Hey, what's the current best place to grind Trade ranks?
>>
>>182051249
Quince?
>>
>>
So what's there to do in ED other then make dosh? I just picked the game up a few days ago, and I've got this Transportation thing down already. Basically made an easy million after I realized how easy it was to just go from Point A to Point B and get free money. I figure the only thing else to do is make ym ship haul more stuff.
>>
>>182058791
Can you tell me everything about your trade route - which planets, how many stations in between and what are you buying/selling? More importantly how long does the round trip take?

I would love to play the game normal way but grinding at Quince is way more profitable because in the end to be competetive in pvp you'll need 500,000,000+ credits to buy and equip your ship properly.
>>
>>182059217
It's not even trade routes. I just hit a station, pick up every "Transport X to Y" mission within jump distance and then do them. Ended up with 3.5 million after doing that for 2 hours.

I basically know nothing else, I just did the easiest way to make money that I figured out.
>>
>>182059439
That's probably the way Braben has intended the game to be played. If that takes about 2 million per 1 hour we can calculate that 500k millions would take 250,000,000 hours = 29 years of constant grinding.

But I'm only joking as the capacity will grow larger when you buy proper transport ship with good cargo bays and stuff.

If you want to find out currently the 'best' way to do things just google Quince grinding and you'll find instructions.

Look at all those stray galaxies. Space is insane, staring at the mouth of infinite emptiness.

So I just ordered some 3D printed parts for a new headtracker, similar to pic related but mine will be made with much higher quality materials, What attracted me to this model is that it should be extremely light weight and uses a small battery, unlike my current head tracker which is built into a baseball cap and uses a heavy 2 AA battery pack.

I ended up spending about $50 for this whole project because I decided to buy rechargeable batteries and a charger. A small quantity of disposable batteries would have been cheaper but then I'd have to order more eventually, and I'd be paying money every time I play ED and SC, which will add up over time.

I love playing with IR tracking except for the fact that my current tracker is not comfortable to wear with my headphones, hence why I'm making a tracker that attaches them.

I have never bothered with eye tracking. It's probably awesome but in ED/Star Citizen everything happens in front of you so there's no need to look around, unlike in WW2 flight simulators when there wasn't any instruments to actually track enemy. You needed to look around in your cockpit a lot.

Of course this kind of dad setup would be interesting but I guess in the end it would be just waste of money compared to cool 21:9 or triple monitor setup.
>>
>>182076247
>triple monitor setup
I have one for other reasons beside videogames, and setting shit up so it works with all 3 is annoying as hell, at least with Nvidia cards, can't comment on AMD.
I mean, it's not really hard, just that the whole toggling in and out is an overly complicated process that could be made to be performed in a click/keystroke instead of going in and out menus which don't remember your last used settings. Can't leave it on because half the programs react weirdly to the big virtual screen.
