When I first came back to agdg after leaving for a while, only to see that Rotate drama had been replaced by gogem drama, I did actually feel sorry for him and starting worrying that maybe all of this is making him feel awful and that its just bullying. But now that I know what he's like I don't feel like that at all, he clearly wants this attention and he brings it upon himself at any opportunity he gets.

Rotate was literally spawned by gogem. You can anchor most of the shitposting and issues agdg has gone through to gogem. He's unironically the biggest cancerfag namefag on 4chan. If you don't believe it, shop around and check the other boards out. There is only one person namefagging for this many years amongst anons who hate him and it's Ryan Jake Scambourn.

i've been playing around with godot for the last couple days, learning how to program for the third time or something. made this little RTS prototype, where i can create units that can move around and auto-acquire enemies to attack, and move them around with RTS controls. currently struggling with a bug where selecting a unit causes all future boxes made (box select, unit health bars) to become infinitely huge

and youre talking about gamejams and demodays like theyre some sorta marketing that magically brings in viewers, which tells me youre a leech who goes to no effort to bring in views for any of those things and its pretty clear the majority of AGDG acts this way so it will burn out anyone putting in the effort so no it's not a "great venue". go take a gander at ~when it hits the fan~ and see what it gets you when you do nothing but try to leech views with a bunch of other whos.

What about all those customers that tell you your games are shit?

I'd even go as far as to say that gamedevs often have a fucked up perspective when reviewing games. They see and understand things that normal people don't and it might make them appreciate something that a normal person wouldn't. It's probably not the case with all gamedevs but I often get a design or programming boners from games that do something interesting on those fronts and the actual quality of the game might not matter that much.

I just loaded up my project on gamemaker and found that the game no longer worked. Turns out that gamemaker deleted one of my scripts. >>
>>181755976
in your shader, you'll set how glowing (emissive) the model is based on a mask. you can use the alpha channel as a mask for emissive if you don't need transparency, or use an additional texture if you still need transparency.

also, you might not want to use actual vertex color, but a method where your texture is a bunch of solid color and you move the uvs around in it. i can't find the infographic but it's a pretty common technique. >>181755578

Upgraded monolith easy (Unless shmoop ship had unlimited bombs/high level bursts), but otherwise it'd be a toss up.

The goddess Victoria is related to Nike, Bellona, Magna Mater (Great Mother), Cybele, and Vacuna—goddesses who are often depicted on chariots.

Where you live will dictate the type of companies you can form and how much it'll cost, in the US it's pretty expensive compared to somewhere like the UK.

>What happens when I have to store other variables, like the base health for every creature in the world?
Variable in said creature (actor, pawn or character in UE4's case).
Keep in mind you can create child classes that will inherit those variables. The parent class will act like a "template" (for example iirc character is a child of pawn).
It's best to keep the amount of actors you use to a minimum, it's easier to manage and it's probably better on performance.

Posting old webm because new one is too big and virtually nothing changed.

Progress:
* Changed the character switching system to be able to have multiple characters that can move at the same time
* Make transitions work with multiple characters capable of movement at once
* Cleaned up the jumping ode to disallow triple jumps. Halfway through this led to a weird bug that made some slimes unable to jump while others could jump indefinitely.

Stat checks gate things behind either build choice or grinding, while puzzles are an obstacle to overcome just like enemies.

I'm on vacation and bored that there aren't more VR games
So I'm building a VR Puzzle game that I can dump lots of puzzles into.

The basic structure is
>game is separating into teleporting puzzles and walking puzzles (for movement sickness people)
>puzzles are short, 30 seconds to 3 minutes
>When you complete a puzzle, you get a time for it and can restart it or move onto the next
>The player can pick up items and put them into a storage compartment like in Budget Cuts
>Some big items can't be stored, smaller ones can be
>Might give the player the ability to place a marker near their hand for marking things
This way, you can play solo solving all the puzzles, or you can pass the VR around and let a group of people try it out.

Give me ideas for puzzle component ideas. So far I have
>Transparent wall that opens when you activate a keystone for it. The keystone is either in the wall itself, or somewhere else. (can't teleport through, can't walk through)
>Pegs that you can grab onto to pull yourself. You can monkey bar across areas (walking only)
>Balance beams. Thin mazy areas that you can fall off of. (walking only)
>General high walled mazes you have to find your way through

My original idea was to have elemental powers you'd have to absorb and use to solve puzzles, but I'm only using standard assets and free asset store stuff, so I wanna keep it simple and just get some gameplay going.

Finally made progress. This beast of a LOS algorithm you see here checks literally every square in range to see if it has a LOS to the player using collision detection with walls, I feel like killing myself. Not only that, but it doesn't even give clean, symmetrical results. Seriously considering just having rooms and corridors be fully lit in the final game, but this will do for now. Also, ignore the door, it's not implemented properly yet.

It looks bad.

First of all, you can't roll into a double kick. There is nothing propelling you off the ground.

You would need to roll first, finish the roll and propel yourself with the legs for the double kick, which defeats the purpose of the 'attack roll'.

Why don't you make it a cartwheel or capoeira style flying kick?

There is an issue with your rolls as well, they don't look good. What are you using as a reference?

Powers of 2, 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128 and so on.

Most engines can take sprite resolutions outher than powers of two, but internally they place them on a canvas sized as the nearest larger power of 2 so sticking to them is a nice habit so as not to waste video memory.

>>181741738
my own hearsay philosophy I've come up with. As follows:

You see, Anarchocaptalism has it right when they're talking about taxation being theft and all that it entails. It is obvious, though, that anarchocaptalism makes no practical sense and would disrupt into any kind of government as soon as the guy with the biggest stick subdue the rest, as evidenced by pic related memes. Most people, then, disregard anarchocaptalism by the self-evident practical reality, but this allows anarchocaptalists to stick to the ideological basis. So, the ideological statement to trump their anarchic claim is as follows:

The natural world CANNOT be ABSOLUTELY moral. Merely by living, you are commiting illegal acts. If you or your children are starving, you WILL murder your peers in order to obtain food. Therefore, the claim for a 100% moral society is asinine. The best we can do is MINIMIZE the immorality in our systems, and so, even if a state is in practicality legalized theft, it is the smallest way of violence we can possibly infringe upon others in order to live together and coexist. This still leaves basis for minimizing the state as much as possible though.

>>181787036
also for anyone interested, here's a general outline of the gameplay mechanics we're looking to implement in this game over the course of development:

KoF SF hybrid, 1v1 gameplay

Spotdodges and rolls as defensive/counter-offensive measures, guard-cancel rolls that consume meter. Rolls and spotdodges are invincible to projectiles and strikes (spotdodges on strikes cause the opponent to take more lag) but all can be grabbed (except guard rolls)

short hops for aggression and pressure, but shorthop aerials hit mid

SFV style ground combos with third strike style freeform juggling

third strike stacking meters depending on super selection, with different levels buffing the super depending on what meters you have stacked (Super lvl 1, Radical lvl 2, Turbo lvl 3) with Turbo being the "full" super and radical/super being the "cut down" versions, resulting in just the first two or first handful of hits depending on level. TL;DR Choose between several supers, but higher levels of one super "buff" that super. Certain supers only have one level but are as strong as a level 3 by default.

Character specific Nitro arts, that range from making moves safe to extending combos to crazy mechanics like a coinflip where you damage yourself or your opponent (that can be blocked, so it must be comboed into). Nitro meter is rewarded for good defense, such as being hit on block, dodging when an attack would hit you, guard rolls, rolling through attacks and projectiles, etc.

Juggle focused-combo game for the most part, similar to third strike but to a greater extent. Most characters will have a meterless launcher normal or special.

Hit-based combo scaling with exponential damage decay.

LK+LP + direction grabs

Different characters will have single dashes while others might have runs a la KoF

If the writing/order seems kinda awkward, it's cause a lot of it was written as a list during active discussion periods and none of it was very formalized

Gamemaker question:

I want to have a single controller object that draws sprites and animates them once, for drawing all sorts of SFX and things in the game, rather than a an 'explosion' object every time I need something to blow up. I figure it'd have an array of every sprite it's currently drawing and where, that a for loop will churn through. Is this the best way to get the effect I desire? I don't want to spawn an 'explosion' object every time I need something drawn.

from the top down all you're gonna be seeing is the shoulders and scalp

abuse shoulder width and head size to portray smart characters, strong characters, weak characters, and women

like a big strong man from the top down would have really large shoulders and a relatively small head. a woman might have shoulders narrow enough to see a bit of her hands, and a relatively large head. go with your gut on that though, it's hard to make a character recognizable when all you can see is their head and shoulders, and their feet when they walk

it's full of unnecessary movement not befitting of a fighting stance. I can understand the need to look feminine and cute, but when all the needless flourishes are that active and bombastic it's kinda hard to forgive

if you want to see examples of what i mean watch vid related

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t06Dkdg6fEo

why is she bending her knee like that? if she's going to fight, why are both her feet angled inwards, basically guaranteeing that any leg strike would cause her to crumple to her knees? why is she flailing her fists like that in rhythmic circles? it doesnt fir her core weight movement nor does it appear to be related to her breathing cycles. I'm being nitpicky about it and maybe not all my arguments are totally founded but as a fighting stance in a fighting game it's not selling me as "ready to fight", it looks more like a drunk girl at a bar trying to dance without losing her balance.

Doors are now positioned randomly on the rooms and must be seen to be marked as known (Clearing a room should probably do it to all doors too).

Well, for that kind of game you want precise controls so you can't rely on stuff like AddForce() or any native Unity physics functions, which is why I said I was enforcing movement.
You have access to stuff like rigidbody.velocity, from there you want to implement your own way of handling it. I'm doing a mix of both because preferences so you might not want to do what I did, you should just go with the kinematic solution for starters, see webm since I wanted to try a floaty one form aerial stuff.

3MB is the limit and is inclusive so you want your webm to be a bit less than it.

>I'm just an artist and my biggest fear is all my art being for naught because we cant manage to make movement work
Yeah no you shouldn't. Even I as a solo dev managed to get what I wanted so just give a bit of time to your programmer, he should be able to get the hang of it too.

how much do i have to clamp my tilesets in order to prevent tile tearing?

I created my 16x16 set in a 20x20 grid so each tile has a 2 pixel repetition but it still tears
>>
>>181797108
Maybe fix the tearing instead of making larger tilesets than needed?

Don't do it, you'll spend next 5 years making your own engine and then your game will flop.

Okay, you know how Simon and Kamina live in a cave town in Gurrenn Lagann? Right?

So the game takes place in a cave town, and your objective is to explore (dig, destroy, etc.) through paths and the like and along the way you'll find caves, habitats, other towns, technology and fossils (lore), etc. You get loot to sell, find resources to develop new weapons and digging tech.
Somewhat open ended and the areas you discover on your dig advance the plot differently depending on what you find in what order

Digging RPG.

What do you got planned further? Like what're the other abilities of your little protag, any attacks or is it all mobility? I'm assuming you're making a sidescrolling platformer focused on mobility

How would I go on about making a 2D character in a 3D world (preferably in Unity)?
Essentially the character orientation should always stay the same depending on the camera rotation ala Paper Mario. The only time the sprites should change is when you're walking left, right, up or down.

the controls are sort of like devil may cry
A - to jump
X - to shoot + aim with anologue
Y - to use weapons (waiting between attacks results in different combos)
B - to use gadgets

you're main gadget is an energy hook sorta thing that allows you to grab things because this game is partially influenced by klonoa. you can see it here + wall jumping in this gif but the momentum system wasn't working when this was recorded so the wall jumps look kind of odd.

You have a launcher and there is depth to the combat but it wont be as deep as DMC or bayonetta because there is more of a focus on mobility and exploration.

in terms of what to call it exactly i'm still not sure right now the progression and world design works kind of like cave story (but areas are brighter and larger) rather than individual levels you'll have a big world or a bunch of connected worlds to explore.

Trying my hand at concept art for the first time
It's hard and takes a while, but it's pretty satisfying

Is the combat fast paced enough? I wanted to make a lewd game but then I realized that making it fast paced (which I think is important) would ruin other things...

I wouldn't consider it fast paced, but I don't think it drags on either, the lewd bits are part of the fight so you're not rushing through it I think.

Its turn based-party based combat so its not inherently fast. If the enemy party isn't made up of the same species/faction they'll attack and rape each other.

I dont have enough time anymore, and probably still wont have for almost a decade. So i decided to make the entire game with very lazy and rough pixel art. It was quite hard giving up on the fancy pixel assets i had done before, but if i kept that id never finish it. Also had to make the game a lot more static and strategy based. After i have the entire game done, i may have money enough to pay people to redo the assets.
