To be fair, as far as canon is concerned, we haven't been able to go to the reef since Oryx was killed. The Reef went on lockdown because of Queen's death and Uldren has taken control. Going to reef now in D1 you're technically still going to the reef pre-Oryx kill. But that's just an explanation for why we're not going there IF we can't go there. Its not actually confirmed that reef is still not a thing. Bungie isn't as revealing as they were with D1 so its possible its still an endgame location.

Locked loadouts would make so much more sense if weapon types were spread out amongst the slots. Weaker sniper rifles in the physical and energy slots, stronger sniper rifles in the power slots. Bog standard auto rifles in the two normal slots, supercharged autos in the power slot.

Then mix and match to fit a particular quest, to do it in one way or another way. More variety, more replayability.

Only because they were the best for dumping a lot of damage out on a boss from any distance. A normal slot version of a sniper rifle in D2 would be something that's more comparable to a scout rifle then, except with a better range stat and maybe more damage per shot in exchange for firing slower. Only the power weapon version should have the same kind of stats.

Doesn't look like there's any chance of them thinking about it right now but they COULD add them in at any point in an expansion. I can't see them stuffing so many weapon types into the power slot working out in the long run so it will be inevitable, unless the performance of all the things get so normalized that it becomes more a matter of using whatever in inventory that deals the biggest numbers. Which is kind of business as usual, its just I prefer if they could go beyond the usual and make it a better game.
