The Faction soldiers all gain Ability Points (AP) when they rank up, so you can always purchase at least one ability from their new rank.
Each soldier also has a new "Combat Intelligence", which modifies how much AP they earn at each rank. Smarter soldiers earn more AP, so they can buy more abilities.
And on top of that, you can then choose to spend any extra AP you've earned from combat (listed as "XCOM AP" on the promotion screen) to purchase additional abilities.
Very possible to unlock all of the abilities if you really invest in one soldier, or if they're super smart
Base game soldiers also have Combat Intelligence and gain AP when they rank up, but you can't access their "expanded" skill tree and spend it until you build the Training Center.
Base classes don't have new abilities on their trees, but they can get some through the Soldier Bond system. They can also get multiple cross-class abilities now (instead of just one through the AWC) or learn abilities from both branches through the Training Center.

Null lance as an ability is based as fuck, ptoblem is it usually isn't that useful in open combat unless there's an enemy like a gatekeeper or an archon that you 100% need to finish off and can't waste a nade or risk muh grazed. Where it really shines is in taking out enemies in heavy cover if you need your explosives somewhere else and fucking up faggots that abuse LOS since the lance can go through multiple walls, roofs, and even hit airborne targets.

It's also goat for ambushing pods when they're clustered up, (especially in longer missions, as it's not a consumable and can cripple or outright kill as well as a grenade in that situation.)

The real problem is that all the psi powers are shit compared to stasis.

If you can deal with ADVENT soldiers effortlessly then it's fine. You can also just put medkits on soldiers and they become immune anyway. High Alert is utter fucking AIDS and should always be countered, imo.

Hey there guys, just installed some armor customization mods and noticed that all my soldiers now have randomly generated armor as soon as I bought the predator armor. Is this something fixable or do I have to manually switch all their uniforms from now on? I disagree. I think having the Rulers take an action every time you do ANYTHING including reloading your damn gun is too annoying. It makes the Bolt Caster pretty much useless since it guarantees they get two retaliatory actions after each shot. That's the weapon that's supposed to be made specifically to deal with the rulers, yet it's actually the worst due to their actions every time you reload. Bullshit if you ask me, especially when you're still at tier 1 armor and weapons.

Yeah ideally, but that doesn't always happen. Sometimes they pop up on a mission before you get to all tier 2 gear. Unless you cheese it by enabling the Alien Hunters story mission and wait forever to "activate" them. I've always viewed enabling the story missions as a way to delay difficult content as a sort of exploit. I usually don't enable the story missions when creating a new campaign. It adds a lot of tension to the early game when you don't know when the Rulers will start appearing.

Not only that, but the DLC story missions are kind of annoying after you've played through them once or twice. They take forever to complete and don't give you anything worthwhile as a reward, except the same content you get right from the start if you disable the missions.

It's way too long, personally I like to have my campaigns end. The length is a problem because it becomes more of a resource management game as you juggle tons of squads. The tactical layer just does not hold up to the amount of missions it takes to clear a LW2 campaign, it gets very repetitive.

The added and rebalanced skills, added enemy types, smarter AI, more classes to play around with, and more interesting weapon variety are all great additions to a fantastic base game. LW2 takes what's great about the tactical game in XCOM 2 and makes it better. However it totally changes the strategic game and for the worse unfortunately.

I gave myself one mission before I put it off to the side. LW2's pod sizes and a swarming+++ map made for what is probably the most fun I'll have in the entire campaign.
People were 100% right about the loot breaking the game though. Killed every non muton enemy on the map in activation, fleche damage was showing 65-67 before I ran out of ayy.

That's the same was what the Incendiary Grenade does. Though I can imagine putting an Acid Grenade and an Incendiary Grenade on the same spot makes for an uber-hazardous area the AI would spend several turns trying to go around. One of my favorite things is tossing an Acid/Fire/Gas Grenade on a group of enemies then sending in my Rangers with Hazmat Vests into the carnage to pick off the weakened enemies, and if they don't quite kill them the residual damage will.

They need to add a grenade that damages and covers enemies with adhesive goo that makes movement cost double the spaces so they can only go half as far.

This is something I've never really understood. I like playing XCOM. I like Long War because it lets me play more XCOM without having to go through the whole rigmarole of starting and ending new campaigns. What's the problem with long campaigns?

Did our lord and savior of MAGNIFICENT design JL change around Will in LW 1.0? Back in b14-15, my top-tier psi troops usually had will of 85-100 (without the psi armor,) now they're all fucking around like faggots with 65-75 Will. Haven't even had any gravely wounded so far everyone who has gotten to that hp level has been gunned down in the defense of Earth

The chucklefucks have a 20 (twenty)% chance of learning Mind Control with 10 days training for fuck's sake. Not that it even matters, since basic mutons get an inexplicable will boost that makes psi a coin toss at best against them, nevermind shit like heavy floaters.

I was fine with grinding for elerium/alloys, I was fine being patient for landed larges for the power sources, but come the fuck on.

Overwatch all and Evac all are handy to save time

In base Xcom 2 it's nearly impossible to sneak in without engaging, by design. There's some behind-the-scenes bullshit they do with patrol routes so there is (nearly) always a pod between you and the objective.

And even if you do, planting the charges instantly breaks squad concealment, so watch out for that.

It's not impossible but it's 100% luck-based. You need to have all but one of the patrols on the other side of the facility. You keep most of your squad back to prevent the patrol between you and the facility from moving, and then send one infiltrator around that patrol to plant the charges.

It's not very satisfying or fun. Play Invisible Inc. if you want the Xcom Stealth Experience.

If I were to guess, I'd say it's because not only do they want for resources, it plays some role in consolidating ADVENT's power despite their relative weakness. I don't think they have the resources, what with their Avatar shenanigans and whatnot, to exercise total control as they do in the city centres. They appear also to have engaged in mass resettlement from not only the countryside, but if what we know of WoTC is true, older cities too; the demands that would place on construction would be truly enormous, and the Slums are the result of cost-cutting.

On the second point, the slums serve to keep the population weakened and distracted. People in them either strive to leave, and thus become obedient followers of ADVENT, or they get so bogged-down in simply finding the necessary food and money to survive that they can't effectively agitate. The crime levels, too, would go some way to suppressing the population. At least that's my assessment.

Overwatch is really fucky when you get revealed if you don't reveal yourself. Not to mention if you get revealed on the enemies turn they generally get a free attack on you. It's best to initiate yourself with a grenade or something, then Overwatch works out fine

When you uninstall a game through steam it tends to leave behind anything that isn't directly downloaded for the base game. Go into your steamapps folder and delete XCOM 2. Then go into your documents and look for another XCOM 2 folder. It might be inside Games, or 2K Games, or Firaxis, or something similar. 80% of games store your saves and mods and stuff in your documents, seperate from the base game.
