That kinda sucks. Liara going all shadow broker stuff seems like the kinda thing a paragon shepard wouldn't wanna stick his dick in anymore, especially after he went off and died and stuff. It'd make sense for him to not wanna be with her anymore.

Imagine a new colony. A few hundred people have been selected to be the first colonists, with a few thousand more on the way over the coming years.
How do they handle energy generation? They wouldn't go for full nuclear fusion immediately, right? Not only does it feel too potent for only a couple of hundred people, but building and installing it seems almost too complex. You'd need a tonne of people getting it working, not to mention maintaining it.

Would solar, wind and water be the primary sources for start-up colonies? Would solar be the largest energy source (assuming Earth-like amounts of light) because of advancements in energy storage?

Solar as of right now, however, requires quite a bit of space, and someone has to maintain all of those panels. As the colony grows I could see solar becoming less and less a primary energy source. Other methods of generation such as wind will probably not be favored as primary sources due to their inconsistency and dependency on location. Location permitting, however, and I could see colonists utilize such as geothermal or hydrogen fuel cell for local energy generation, should there be an ample supply of solar and liquid water.

If the colony is expected to grow to a few thousand over the coming years, I see no reason why the colonists wouldn't utilize a small-scale nuclear power plant. Nuclear power is probably the most space efficient power generation method out of the ones you listed, and the colonists could probably bring the majority of the required components with them. To produce an equal amount of solar/wind/etc. they would need a lot more materials that take up far more precious space, and would take a lot longer to set up.

That depends on the planet. If it´s earth like, like Eden Prime or New Horizon Wind and solar energy would be the best options to start. Hydroelectric isnt feasible, as it would be forced to settle near areas, where it´s possible to construct hydroelectric power plants. Also in case you´d need to relocate, e.g. because of dangerous animals or a natural disaster of some type (e.g. flooding) you would loose a source of energy, along with some resources. It´s easier with Solar panels and WInd turbines, you could simply slap them on the roof of your housings.

Initially it would probably be focused on individual power, as i believe the houses and the settlers overall would be scattered over the area, so each group could do what they´re tasked to do, e.g. collecting resources or farming. But With more and more ppl arriving there would be a need to create a communal power grid, so that the new settlers could live in a somewhat tight community, which would grow to a city. Wind turbines and solar pannels would be the main source of energy for a long period, eventually they will swap to a more sophisticated technology, e.g. Fusion energy. I already watched the documentaries and I came to the conclusion that the presented claims are lacking solidity and evidence. Whereas there´s plenty of evidence that supports the fact that humans have indeed landed on the moon. It´s a fact that humans did that, but that they also survived it (not without some costs, as we´ve seen with several disasters, e.g. the Apollo 1 Disaster or the tragedy of Sojus 1).

And while it´s true that we can't shield a spacecraft from extraterrestrial radiation, it´s effects aren´t as grave as it was previously thought. Sure, there are negative effects by that, but nothing that cant be handled.

Sending humans into space is costly, they require oxygen, food and you have the problem, that they have to piss/shit occasionally, plus they weight nearly a 150kg in their clunky suits. So why not send a probe, that weights a fraction of that and still be able to do science without needing oxygen, food or a toilet. Also if something happens you just send another probe, a human loss would be grave.

Here´s a fun experiment for you. Go outside on a sunny day and count how many stars you see. If you count more than one, you may have a damage on your retina or you have drunken too much. The thing is, that the stars are still there, but you cant see them because the sunlight is just too bright for you to see. In order to capture them with a camera you´d need to open the shutter for quite a long time, while holding perfectly still. I doubt, that there are few people that can hold perfectly still for a few hours.
