I stole the quest with Curious Glimmerroot, managed to complete it before the mage did thanks to Lyra, and also milled the quest reward thanks to Lyra. Still won though.

Leave Lyra on the board for longer than a turn and you're in a world of hurt

Secrets are easily my favorite mechanic in the game. I like how they make the game a lot interactive. You can't just do what you want with them

The thing with secret mage is, you can't have any real expectation what the secrets are. Most secret mages play them as they draw them, plus there are randomly generated secrets which you couldn't possibly play around.

Facing against a secret mage just feels like a lottery. More often than not, if they counterspell your board clear or removal (and let's face it, most board clears in HS cost 4-5 mana or more), you are so far behind the curve that you might as well concede.

Most people suggest taking Mana Wyrm, but in my experience the enemy is usually smart enough to focus it or off it before it gets too big, and that's just a waste of a turn, so I thew them out. Sorcerer's Apprentice too. Firelands Portals, Fireballs, and Primordial Glyps cover all the damage I need. Kabal Crystal Runners and Ethereal Arcanists are the heavy lifters, and Kirin tor Mages and Kabal Lackleys ensure free casting, and Arcanologists ensure a steady inflow of free spells.

But there are games I won without placing a single unit.

If you play against a good player, you can expect certain secrets before your expected power turns (depending on the class), e.g. a counterspell if they feel a board clear is coming or a mirror entity once pally gets to 8 mana - things like that. You can half-guess certain secrets.

In constructed people are often bad or don't pay attention, like playing counterspell when you have the coin for example. You have no real expectation of your opponent (especially once randomly generated cards hit the table), and so you can't realistically play around anything.

MTGO is a piece of fucking shit. I'm someone who plays MTG (Legacy, Cube, proxy vintage mostly) and MTGO is one of the worst pieces of software ever designed.

Not only is it buggy and crashes constantly, it faces a lot of problems with trying to get into matches and dropping games. I've had to talk to support more than other players. Not to mention the concept of passing priority and responding is very clunky. The biggest offender by far is trying to do combos and stacking triggers. In paper magic, it's easy to demonstrate a combo and then to tell the enemy that you will repeat this combo until you have X amount of mana, or life, or deal X damage. In MTGO you have to manually repeat the combo or manually stack triggers exactly correctly. The clock actually runs down on your turn when they make you click through a bunch of check boxes just to execute a simple infinite combo.

If MTG had a good online client I'd be playing it in a heartbeat. It doesn't, unfortunately, and it probably never will because translating something like MTG to the online world is too difficult. It's a game that is much better played in person than it is online, unless you're maybe counting cockatrice which is completely manual, thus allowing you to simply skip clicking a bunch of shit.

Magic is the greatest game ever made, and if I have to use the online client to get my fix then so be it.

I can't wait 3-4 years from now, when HS turns to shit and someone makes classic servers

You shouldn't be punishing players for playing combos by forcing them to do a loop a bunch of times. If I want to play MUD I should be able to do my Metalworker + Staff of Domination combo without having to click 10 times between each iteration of it.

If you want to support baby, brainlet tier MTG (AKA Standard) good for you, but trying to play Legacy or Vintage on MTGO (Which should be the biggest draw, because no reserved list) then you're shit out of luck.

What actual problems? MTGO experiences the very, very occasional bug in the current build, and WotC will reimburse your event entry fee when it does happen. Everything else about priority passing and combos is just Reddit-tier opinions. MTGO is a no frills, all-business game client and that's by design. It works 99.5% of the time. If you want explosions and pretty colors, just keep playing Hearthstone.

Silence Druid was a viable deck for a while, and it used this card. The idea is that silenced Ancient Watchers + Eerie Statues are strong enough to win with as long as you keep developing your board. Hitting 2 of those with a single mass silence minion is a big deal. The deck died when Keeper was nerfed.

no, priest has some pretty BS combos with shit like lyra and northshire cleric. It's still honest but it has it's BS moments. Paladin doesn't really have any of that feeling of unfairness with it's combos. Even anyfin, a combo, is inter-actable, unlike pretty much every other combo decks in the game

I even win going first, but the coin really helps getting it on turn 3.
