I know some people like to scream for Chao Garden and I like quite a bit of virtual pet/simulator games so I wouldn't reject it fully but is the scene even popular nowadays?

Pokemon was at its peak in the late 90s and early 2000s right when Yellow and Gold/Silver and later Crystal came out. Pokemon involves a lot of grinding and obsessing over stats. Same with Chao. I figured out the thing that bothered me about the OCs in Forces. Most of them don't have much going on with their chest areas. If you look at every other Sonic character, there's something occupying space on their bodies. But what it looks like so far for the OC is that the clothing is what occupies that space. It just makes it boring as a design.

I like the ideas of having a Sonic game with a variety of levels from different games on the go, and I am even more eager knowing that they're different from the console levels, so I won't feel like I am just playing a worse version of a game I already played. Plus some of the boss fights look pretty nostalgic.

But from what I have seen of it, I am worried that coming off the Rush games, it might actually feel like a downgrade still. The lack of Advance levels like they originally intended is a little disappointing too.

160 is fine. Majority of the stuff people like from the comics comes after this point. It's a confusing place to start due to missing all the issues previously, but there's a giant wiki that can help you if you want to look up certain things.

252 is a reboot that erased a lot of everything that came before it due to legal issues. It's a good jumping on point since they had to reintroduce everything relevant, but you do miss a lot of the good that came before it.

I suggest the full thing if you can grind through the bad or a mix like >>181329420 said. The comic is in limbo currently with no set timetable to when we'll hear if it is continuing or not, so you likely do have time. In the event of cancellation, some are wanting to do one last massive storytime of every single issue, so there's that possibility.

Penders is there early on, but the comic doesn't fully degrade until after issue 50, though some will say it happens earlier. Like the other anon said, if you go from 1, you can read until you stop enjoying it and skip to 160 or 252 if you want to skip the pre-reboot in general.

Do keep in mind that the early issues are mostly gag humor comics. They eventually transition into more serious takes on stories, though.

Penders gets full writing control at issue 20, and then shares it with Karl Boelllers for a long while after that. The first bits are -alright- but not great, and it goes really down hill after issue 50, crashing to it's lowest point at around issue 60-70, and staying there for a long, LONG while.

It's pretty simple; Read Universe for four issues (an arc) and then read the main comic for a full arc (2-5 issues) until you hit natural stopping point. If they reference something going on elsewhere that you don't know about, probably safe to assume that you should be reading the other comic at this point. There's a list with the issue order somewhere, but I can't find it at the moment.
