Shotguns are extremely underrated. Probably my favorite weapon in this game, and I'd make the case that they are just as good as lasers in the right hands.

Shotgun pros: Can be loaded with stun, buckshot, and slugs. This makes it almost as versatile as an energy gun as you can use either stun or lethals depending on the situation. What makes the shotgun more desirable than an energy gun however, are the fact that stun shells can penetrate single pane windows, airlocks, and windoors. You can also reload a shotgun without needing to find a recharger. At 60 damage per shot with slugs and with its ability to cause bleeding, shotgun damage output is better than lasers IF you can land your shots. Highest damage potential at close range with buckshot. Shotguns are BEST used against slippery targets like wizards and targets with high resistance to lasers, IE people with ablative armor and juggernaughts. Also unaffected by EMP.

Shotgun cons: Harder to land a shot with than lasers. Slower ROF with the need to pump the shotty. Smaller capacity than a laser/energy gun, which doesn't matter that much if you land your shots since you do so much god damn damage. Once you run out of ammo, you're out. Harder to change between stun/lethals unless you mix your shells when you load them. If you're caught with lethals when you need stun you are usually at about a 2:1 disadvantage against someone with stun weaponry, depending on if you're using slugs or buckshot and what the range is.

The shotgun takes some getting used to, but once you know how to use it, it's a supremely powerful weapon. I would only rather have an AEGun or the captain's laser in lethal situations, and that's just because of the automatic recharge.

This is where you and I will disagree. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the detective acting like an officer provided they don't hunt down assistants and shoot them with their revolver. There's no harm in it, and there's no point in them NOT doing it. Provided they also fulfill their duties as an investigator, they should continue to act as regular security personnel because security is rarely staffed enough for everyone to handle situations where shit hits the fan.

The problem doesn't come when detectives act like officers, the problem comes when they don't do any investigating. It seems like a lot of the time newbies and retards play detective and don't do their fucking job. Detective shouldn't actually arrest even when witnessing a crime. In that case, det should aim to scare, and if that doesn't work, kill, the perp. Det is then to collect site evidence after calling it in. HoS could authorize det to make an arrest no more or less than he could any civilian (which is to say, he can, but there's nothing special about det being det in this case).

However, if there are no/not enough active sec, det should act as another sec (after telling HoS he's doing that). In that capacity, det should no longer try to scare/kill anyone and instead arrest on sight.
