I built the sanguine vintners and now the crimson curse is basically just a fun thing to work around because I can easily afford to take 12 vials of The Blood(tm) on every expedition. I don't get how people struggle with the shrieker, even on champion difficulty. Sure that mother fucker hits crit pecks on a regular basis but the goal has always been to survive. If they lose heroes it is entirely their own fault for not playing defensively, stacking dodge and prot with a stack of herbs, bandages and holy water. If anything I welcome the shrieker fight in order to roll the unique quirks, which are pretty good (except the disease resist)

There's a guide on the workshop.

The short of it is to...
>make a folder for your shit
>put modded files in your folder under subfolders to match the DarkestDungeon folder
In this case it would be yourfolder/heroes/jester/jester.info.darkest
>go into DarkestDungeon/_windows and double click on steam_workshop_upload.exe
read the shit that pops up if you feel like it
>move sample_project.xml into your folder
rename it if you want
>open that shit with a text editor and fill it out
The thing saying /data is out of date so don't have that when you fill in your absolute path to your folder

Okay, viewing over the Jester changes, its pretty easy a fix:

.effect "Build to Finale" needs to be removed.

.effect "Mortal Weakness DEF" needs to be changed back to .effect "Mortal Weakness"

Dirk Stab needs its dmg boosted to .dmg 20% again. They nerfed it to normal damage.

Remove the .per_battle_limit 2 and .per_battle_limit 1 off of Solo and Finale.

Boost "Heroic_end" back to 150% damage. Hm... complicated. Needs some work. Will pastebin.

If you're into the game and think you're going to stick with it, I'd say grab Crimson Court now. It's fairly well integrated alongside the rest of the content. I'd hold off on actually going to the Courtyard (DLC area) until you have built a Sanguine Vintners (part of the new blueprint/districts stuff in the DLC) so you have a good supply of blood available, because you will end up with a lot of cursed heroes.

As far as healing goes, the Occultist will eventually outshine the Vestal in straight numbers. It's a diceroll, but with a crit heal you can take someone from death's door back to full health. And you don't always need a dedicated healer. Plenty of classes can self heal, and some classes have lower quality heals that can fill in the gaps. Taking extra food is an option, albeit an unwieldy one.

im-fucking-plying, there are a ton of characters much more useful and reliable than jester, he was an exceedingly rarely used character and had a very narrow use already, now he has no uses at all, they didn't nerf Flag, but nerfed the one character that already pretty much no one uses. and the dumbest thing is that the addition of the district is what made him really strong, so instead of just reworking the district (WHICH IS THE ONLY DISTRICT THAT BUFFS JUST ONE CHARACTER INSTEAD OF 3) they nerf the shit out of both the character AND the district, making them both completely useless. There is zero reason to bring him along now

in a game in which you want to end fights as fast as possible, due to stress, reinforcements, and potential crit debilitating your entire party, there is no room for a guy who spends like 4 rounds setting up a move, just to finish of some mob with 10% health left

Finale was never broken, it was a strong turn 1 nuke but so is marking in a mark team. Finale was nowhere as reliable or repeatable as marking, once you used it the Jester was forced to use sub-optimal skills to get back to the front, but required only 1 action instead of 2 like marking. It was a good trade-off, nothing more.

I like the thematic change to Finale, but I feel like it needs to decide what it wants to be a bit more decisively. If it's going to be single use per fight then it needs to be the nuke that it was pre-nerf, or if it wants to be less of a nuke then it doesn't need to be so limited in its usage. I feel like they've limited his kit too much by trying to have their cake and eat it too on how many moves focus on Finale set up now. I like that they gave most of his normal moves buffs to it because it shows that you can prep the move while you're just doing what you'd want to do with the class anyway, but the problem is that it limits his scope so hard and the end result of Finale not being as effective as it once was regardless of set up makes it feel lack luster. The issue is just that the combat in this game doesn't really lend itself to the idea of taking this amount of time to set something up, and especially if you can get the same result in terms of damage after a couple of turns with a good DPS party. I don't think RH is wrong to want to futz around with the ability, but I don't think all the changes really insentivise us as players to use the ability at all over other builds for both the Jester and other damage dealers.

I don't think everyone needs to act like this is the end of the world though. They said both in the patch and in the comments of said patch that they're just trying something out and want to get feedback. It's not like they're planning to leave it like this after all the negative feedback they've gotten thus far, it's just a matter of how we as players phrase our dislike of the change and how they as Devs interpret that given info.

There is no way to perfectly cycle Finale with 4 Jesters, best you do is give the rank 1 Jester On Guard/Quick Draw/Quick Draw Charm and pray the others go in the right order. If they don't you are fucked and your DPS plummets to the ground. Not to mention you are effectively powerless against rank 4, have fun waiting for the croc and Viscount to change a rank. Marking parties are objectively superior in sustained DPS against bosses.

These Jester shenanigans make me glad I got the game on GOG. other classes are mainly to get someone off deaths door since having 1hp means you wont die to a direct hit

a few classes have self healing like a leper or a houndmaster and can keep themselves pretty healthy

flagellant can heal to a degree, but he isn't going to keep your team at full health

you also may want to take advantage of low damage enemies and stuns to patch yourself up once you eliminate the big threats

be aware that once a single enemy remains you have 2 rounds to kill it before you take stress damage to prevent stalling tactics and if you cant kill it before the third round reinforcements will appear

reinforcements and the stress do not apply to enemies that take 2+ spaces or the Pelagic Guardian inside the cove due to the time it takes to kill them

He's already good even at full health because his bleed is great against high prot enemies and the reclaim skill boosted by battlefield bandage has a lot of uses plus the fact that it can crit heal more often than most single heal because it heals 3 times a pop. Healing received buff becomes more effective since all three heals are buffed and if you're done with fighting, it continues to heal after walking a few steps. It's also great when your hero might get off DD because of a DoT attack.

His stress heal is comparable to Jester but not as great and stressing him out is risky as it is beneficial. He poses a threat to your allies if you let him become rapturous.

His low health and tanking capabilities are his added benefit that you can get more out of him the lower his HP is. It's important to increase his health so that when he reaches under 33% hp he's not as squishy and risky to lose. If he manages to get on DD, it nuke heals the whole team. I like him a lot because gameplay involving him is contradictory to what the game wants you to do and that's keeping everyone at top health but having him purposely injured gives you better options. You can focus the rest of your healing on other guys if you have another dedicated healer while whenever he hits under 50%, you can nuke heal himself while nailing another enemy with his strongest attack or nuke heal another hero; that means 50% of the party is taken care of because that nuke heal is % based.

Not even that guy, but Treebranch can only hit the front two party members, so it's really easy to guard against it. And you can augment stun chance through trinkets quite a bit for them to be guaranteed. Personally prefer just debuffing him.

As for other class mods, I've only used Trap Maker, Pitfighter and Cannoneer

Trap Maker is probably a little too OP; he can multi-bleed, reduce protection and his blunderbuss deals a shitton of damage

Pitfighter is basically a frontline bounty hunter

You'd think the Canoneer would be a heavy damage ranged unit but he's not. He's a weird defensive class that focuses on stacking buffs/ripostes overtime and occasionally launching a powerful cannon blast

I like the Ronin from the Workshop.
He maybe is a bit on the stronger side, but for full effectiveness you have to move him around a little and spend a turn on self-buffs. His stronger abilities also have self-debuffs tho.
I like him especially for his ability to reduce PROT from enemies, making them easier to kill.

Why instead of destroying the skill they didnt change the building to a flat +15% damage to all of his skills? That way I might wanna grab slice off, harvest and dirk stab without feeling very weak.

Yeah. It's not HWY or GR tier damage, but it's solid enough to kill most enemies in two hits and also comes with a decent bleed which is good vs high PROT. I usually find myself opening with backrow stun and then stabbing the shit out of enemies.

Last night, overzealous gremlins took a large foam bat to Jingles the Jester, leaving him dazed, reeling, and about to break.

Today, after great popular demand, Jingles is able to once again bring down the house with a rousing Finale (though still not as earth shatteringly-quickly as he could during his popular setlist from two+ days ago).

Finale:
--Base damage bonus: 50%
--Crit chance restored (though still lower than previous incarnations)

Notes from the Jester's roadies:
1) As stated in yesterday's patch notes, we still intend Finale to be a powerful skill--but one that will take some effort and tactics to set up. We will continue monitoring and tuning as necessary. Our design philosophy for every hero is that there should be circumstances where that hero is extremely valuable. One of the most interesting comments we've seen about the Finale nerf (and wholeheartedly agree with) is that if a single skill nerf seems to ruin the overall utility of a hero, then that can be less of an indicator of that skill being flawed and maybe more of an indicator that the rest of his moveset is lacking.

2) The tuning of one skill should not be interpreted as indifference towards any other tuning adjustments that could or should be made. Sometimes it's more convenient and relevant to touch parts of the game that are tangential to other tasks going on. Right now, generally our focus is on fixing up remaining Crimson Court bugs but Finale was something we felt needed a more interesting setup.

Last night, overzealous gremlins took a large foam bat to Jingles the Jester, leaving him dazed, reeling, and about to break.

Today, after great popular demand, Jingles is able to once again bring down the house with a rousing Finale (though still not as earth shatteringly-quickly as he could during his popular setlist from two+ days ago).

Finale:
--Base damage bonus: 50%
--Crit chance restored (though still lower than previous incarnations)


Notes from the Jester's roadies:
1) As stated in yesterday's patch notes, we still intend Finale to be a powerful skill--but one that will take some effort and tactics to set up. We will continue monitoring and tuning as necessary. Our design philosophy for every hero is that there should be circumstances where that hero is extremely valuable. One of the most interesting comments we've seen about the Finale nerf (and wholeheartedly agree with) is that if a single skill nerf seems to ruin the overall utility of a hero, then that can be less of an indicator of that skill being flawed and maybe more of an indicator that the rest of his moveset is lacking.

2) The tuning of one skill should not be interpreted as indifference towards any other tuning adjustments that could or should be made. Sometimes it's more convenient and relevant to touch parts of the game that are tangential to other tasks going on. Right now, generally our focus is on fixing up remaining Crimson Court bugs but Finale was something we felt needed a more interesting setup.

I ran Occ/Flag/MAA/Jester

Jester spammed Solo to keep ACC debuff on him. Used debuff % and stress tamborine trinket

MAA - Can use whatever trinket. Mirror and something else work. Spammed Dodge and Retaliate

Flag used bleed chance and whatever. Keep dots on. heal when needed

Occ keeps Weaken curse. Use debuff Trinkets and whatever.

That means Baron hits the front two for 1-5 at and the back two for 0 while taking bleed dmg and retaliate. Just take the eggs one at a time slowly and use jester stress heal during this phase. Remember moving position is superior to breaking a new egg if it comes down to it and you aren't ready.

You'll have to tinker with this strategy as Jester Solo has been trashed. HWY with riposte could work too.

Don't dump money into stress healing early. Upgrade stagecoach, then blacksmith/guild. Just toss your guys if they get too fucked up. Heroes heal stress by being idle. Also, design your party to take out stress mages ASAP, if thats stun and dots, resposition spells or phat backline direct damage crits.

First of all, avoid upgrading the tavern. It costs portraits that you should be spending on upgrading the Guild ASAP.

The best way to manage stress is to not get stressed at all. Prioritize enemies that deal stress damage.

Scoring critical hits heals 4 stress to the hero who scored a crit and randomly to other heroes as well. Killing the enemy sometimes heals 3 stress.

Some classes such as Jest or Houndmaster have skills that heal stress.

Camping with 8 food heals 10 stress for all heroes. Every hero can use encourage skill to heal 15 stress during camp, some heroes have other unique stress heal camping skills.

My entire roster of 28 heroes had the Crimson Curse before I managed to take the Baron down.
All of them.
And I was taking every mission about 12 vials of Blood with me, which I had my heroes consuming without as soon as they craved it.

No, this time you really want to hit the extra. Unlike the Hag fight, focus-firing on the boss isn't all that viable since he's tanky as shit and loves to stack prot. The pyre is much easier to take out in comparison, and more beneficial to remove early since it does a fuckload of damage.

Why not just have it only buff his two bleed skills and dirk stab. It won't buff Finale to unreasonable levels while giving more of a reason to utilize other skills for damage. Maybe the performance hall can slightly increase buff duration on skills instead of straight up damage boosts. There are other ways around it instead of nuking the Jester.

The Arbalest is built around setting things up to get higher payoffs than you would from using her skills normally.
>uses marks to make her shots more effective
>uses battle bandage to make heals more effective
>uses blindfire to boost her speed
In contrast, I'd make the Musketeer have high initial strength, but she'd fall off the longer battles went on. High damage attacks, but she'd be "stunned" for a turn to reload/recoil after using them. Since the Arbalest is also generally a static character, the Musketeer could have a bayonet jab like the skeleton arbalists that deals melee damage and pushes her back.
