RB1. It's a great introduction to the series and introduces all of the characters. It expands on them the most out of the 3 and has the best balance of tone between the 3 storywise.

Not to mention, it's an indicator of if you'll like the other 2 since the combat is VERY similar with slight differences. 2 features an extra party slot (RB1 only has 3 party members) and 3 replaces the EXE system with the SP system adding some minor strategy a la meter management.

Though I will say that CH really should have put a dash in between V and II. Plus it is the 7th game in the mainline series (Though it's only game # 4 we're not counting the RB games)

If you skip through the story (which I'll be doing because i already read and enjoyed it in the EU version), the game is incredibly short thanks to how overpowered Mega Drive's Charge + Dreamcast's Dreamblade Special is. In addition, the level/lily rank grind is rather short here and while a second run is required, you barely have to do anything in it as long as you do all that you can in your first run.

The DLC is just cheat items like guaranteed item drops and an EXP multiplier, so it shouldn't add to my time at all. If anything, it should shorten it since I don't have to grind for some of the worse item quests and I can optimize my level/lily rank grind for the latter and get that done a little faster.

It's just that I had already done the plat two times at that point (Japanese + Korean; EU wasn't until after the Chinese version) and happened to know how to do everything, so I saved a lot of time that would've been spent figuring everything out and finding the best ways to do things.
