Astral 1 means that another random Astral 1 faggot who can be recruited for 65 gold by some nations can cast a Magic Duel spell with 1 astral pearl, win a roll, and kill your super valuable pretender.

And the enemy can try this as long as he has Astral 1 mages. And some nations have a shitton. And your chance of survival with Astral 1 vs Astral 1 is basically 50/50 every time, so after 3 tries you'll almost certainly die.

I'm interested in making a LotR mod too, maybe we could get a few more anons and make a full nation roster?
>>
So i'm trying out LA Atlantis, this is my first game.

I've been building castles almost every province i can, building units, i have a basic unit army with ice armor-less units and one with ice armors (who cost a ton of resources holy fuck) also my basic army is accompanied by those big guys with 3W/3D spells+ 2 bless

I seem to be able to take care of most armies and my generals seem to be gaining a good ammount of xp. What i'm not doing is using up magic, i've been researching but not really using the non combat spells i'm getting.
>>
>>180981662
And? what are you asking, or is this just a personal blog?

Try all the nations (literally, try all of them for at least expansion) and find one you really like the feel of. Then crack open the mod inspector and look at their mages. Once you know their basic paths have a look at boosters (under items) and work out what you can boost to easily with the paths you have. Then you can figure out what spells you can reasonably reach. From then experiment with spells and armies (preferably against yourself or other players) to figure out what works.

Try summoning green lions or whatever those fuckers are called. Shit like maelstrom and vengeful waters is fun as well.
>>
>>180982050
fug, i thought i put the question there as well.

I wanted to ask how do i use magic more efficiently? i feel like having a nearby mage with a lab to cast ritual spells while having 2 (or can i just have 1?) on the field is a good idea but when the fighting takes place farther and farther from the foward lab it will be annoying to move foward as well and keep building labs.

Also how do i into making items?
>>
>>180982346
I'm not an expert by any means but a lot of the time you want more mages that in a fight if you can manage it.
>>
>>180982092
bad!
>>
>>180982346
There's no golden ratio when it comes to mages. Send out what you think you need to win your battles, every turn that they're doing something else they're not researching.

Magic is different for almost every faction, it really depends on what mages you have access to to know what you should be doing with them. I suggest reading a guide for a faction you like to get a baseline for what spells are good and what your research goals are.

As for items you should look to the mod inspector. Best items for cheap thugging are fire/frost brands and vine shields. Other important items are items that grant +research like lightless lanterns, dwarven hammers because they reduce the cost of forging, supply bonus items like caudrons.

Most of this shit takes time to learn, eventually it'll come more naturally when you devote time to learning the game.
>>
>>180982098
>shadow of mordor version of LotR

I no longer wish to collaborate, good luck though!

>>180982346
You want to have dozens of mages on the field in big battles (if the enemy is dumb enough to doomstack/or during sieges). With W/D you want to be shooting for D evos and skelly spam and .... quickness? for water, water is generally shit.

>>180983759

For singleplayer, just do whatever you want.
But generally, LA Atlantis is a nation that likes to play focused more on scales, with either a death heavy or astral heavy pretender. Their land troops and Angakoks are really solid, but once they reach underwater, they get expensive but strong mages.
Their main game strat is to use large amounts of debuffs they're immune to like Grip of Winter and Darkness combined with buffs like Stygian Rains (which they can actually use effectively since their weapons are magic) and quickness which is an overall good thing to have. They can also use their Forgiving Fathers to cast stuff like Acid Storm or spam Green Lions, which is always a good summon to spam.
>>
>>180985904
Keep in mind having 2 in a path guarantees you like ~80% of the gem sites.

No, they're cap-only for a reason. However, you can summon stronger mages and troops using your gems anywhere. And new researched spells is learned by everyone immediately.
>>
Is there any way to spam firebirds as MA Vanarus without using your pretender? I'm not seeing any F1S1 mages, nor are there F1S1 summons that aren't late game demon lords.

>>180982092
What age?

Also, that's awful for any age of riley. EA/MA wants order, every riley can safely dump production because slaves are cheap. If EA/MA take growth 3. Max a temp scale, because seas can only go to temp 1 so it's 80 free points. Dom8 is overkill unless it's LA; dom5 is totally safe. Drop the luck for magic unless LA.

R'lyeh already has complete astral access and does pretty much nothing with the bless. With Dimensional Rod MA/LA can even get S9 caster from cap recruitables (1/16th chance) or their S5 hero.

>>
Lifelong Protection doesn't cost fatigue,
>>
>>181003771
A scutata voltanus or whatever the fuck. I thought the shockwaves would help more than a vine shield against this target.
>>
>>181003923
It's possible that it was taking fatigue damage from the shockwave if he didn't have any other sources of shock resistance. The shockwave does 10 AN fatigue damage.
>>
So, we've all heard of Forester Bob, Asshole Batman and the Eater of Dead assassin.

What are some other niche strats? Mass indy priests with warbows and a F9/A4 bless? Mass Fireburds? mass orgies?

What are some real off the wall tactics?
>>
>>181004064
The shield itself gives +5 shock res and resistance is doubled against stun damage, so that shouldn't be it. However, checking the item again, it lists a fatigue cost of 20 on the shockwave spell.

I also noticed this with a totem shield I looted in another game, with the totem shield having a listed fatigue of 5. Lifelong protection has a fatigue of 0, so that's probably why it doesn't cost any.
>>
>>181004215
Huh. You're right. That might not be intended, though.
>>
>>181004561
It makes every one of those items terrible, either way. It's massive fatigue drain for less than it's worth. If it hadn't killed my golem, it would easily have countered the 12 lifelong protections on the enemy side, and actually did kill 100 or so imps.
>>
>>181004839
They're both summod items, which is why I suspect it's a bug.
>>
>>181004839
HAHAHA, THIS WAS ME
Also you didn't have any lightning resist - you put an iron face on the dude. for what its worth, though, he still would have died even if he hadn't fatigued out. 100 imps isn't very impressive when I make that in just 4 turns.

Are certain provs just more site dense? Ive had provs I find 4 magic sites on with a level 9 search of everything and others that only pop 1. Does the game tend to clump them or is it all random? Well Atlantis, I feel its time I posted the graphs I got from a magic site - I held off on these as I thought we were buddies, but I see the truth now. For those smaller powers in the game, don't be malakal'd by his rhetoric if he's been swaying you toward fighting me (looking at you, Man.) He's just as much a lategame power as myself.
Also sorry for shit quality, Straya internet doesn't want me posting this for some reason (again, I blame Malakal for this)
>>
>>181007087
Forests have more N sites, swamps have more W/D sites, wastes have more E/D sites, mountains have more E/?? sites, there's some logic to it.
>>
>>181007213
>that fucking spike when you cast eternal pyre
>>
>>181007087
It's random. While certain types of provinces tend towards more sites and even more sites in a certain path (sitesearching caves with earth, forests with nature, and wastes with fire are all unsurprisingly good ideas). There are also sometimes map defined manysites provinces - Valanis has a few for instance (the giant tree province, some of the other ones with interesting shit drawn on) which again have a bonus to sites.
That said these just weight the random generator and its possible for a farmland to have 3 sites and a manysites province to have just 1 or none. Its just less likely that this will happen.

So this worked pretty well. Probably can't hold onto these, but I do love it when a plan comes together.

Abysia actually has a hoburg crossbow province that he just hasn't been using. I don't really agree with that decision. Also got some crystal mages to go with his throne mages.

My one loss was the guy whose job it was to die when I hit a bloodhunting province, but the way he died was interesting. I expected to lose him to imps or pd, but instead the horde of blood slaves ran up and punched him to death.

>>181007213
I'm not super surprised about having the most research since I'm running Magic 3 and spamming the W1 coastal mages. You really should have better research, though, especially since you went Cons early. Still, the fact is that we're on par in gem income while you also have a blood economy, so that's certainly something.

>>181009869

They're more Bogarus's thing, which they can summon natively. Actually, Lemuria is unassailable and their provinces are worthless (most of them were captured just before deadlands appeared, so they don't provide gems OR income) and I gave up attempt to siege them anyway because Bogarus attacked me
>>
Real talk, why does Ulm have such an abysmal LA winrate?
>>
>>181014885

Bad mages and bad diversity. They start out fast with quick research but fail to leverage that to achieve victory.
>>
>>181014885
They suffer a big diplomatic malus because of their very strong (or early, rather) mid- early lategame but are easy to take out or cripple before second half of year 2 and it's actually not a good endgame nation: foreign recruitment allows you to get a research lead because of lower infrastructure requirements but once said infra is in place and number of mages is limited by upkeep rather than recruitment capacity, many nations get better bang for their buck from their mages

In other words, Ulm has to snowball and the snowball is often stopped before it even gets going
>>
>>181015085

Honestly, I'd say it's just as much a lot of people just not knowing how to get a proper blood economy going and not doing it early enough. A no-research d2b2 mage for 44 blood slaves is a good idea, but if you only start grabbing them at the end of year 2, then you lose the advantage you have over other blood nations.

I'm aware it's not intended to mean LA Ulm, but that doesn't mean it won't funnel a decent number of new players towards the nation.
>>
>>181016025
>Ragha teaches you some really bad lessons
But it feels so good.
>>
>>180935942
But I want each town to be a province.
>>180936036
I like clustered terrain. it creates topographic regions instead of everything just normalizing out to white noise.
>>
>>181016370
Terrain should ideally, on a sufficiently large map, be clustered in patches of two to three of a given type, with one and four being outliers. It needs to be so that nobody is utterly screwed by their starting location, while at the same time, both diverse terrain survival and greater-than-average map move are beneficial.
>>
>>181016358
Nothing feels better than starting within a few provinces of an enemy as Ragha and just sitting on their cap after a few turns.
>>
>>181016509
I'm not super competitive and stuff so I care more about having 'fun' with my nation than being on fair ground with other players. If I'm a desert themed nation I want my entire nation to be in the wastes.
>>
>>181016792
That's all well and good, but the game usually has nine to twelve players, at a conservative estimate, and most of us prefer winning a fair game to being screwed over before we take our first turn.

The only way I see actual huge regions of one terrain being viable is a scenario-style map with preset starting locations. Even then, things like "all wasteland for C'tis" would be a horrible idea without making sure that there's things to compensate, like a nile full of farmland, because no matter what you might say about wanting 'fun', you will lose if your income's shot to hell by your starting location.
>>
>>181016980
You're right, I wouldn't expect someone to play on a map with me if they get nothing but wastes, but like for example people complain about parganos but I think the terrain on parganos is great! That warhammer map could be a bit intense but the most clustering of terrain is actually just plains. The wastes are just that, wastes. There's only like a handful of provinces there.

How do I turn MA Jotun Skratti into thugs? I tried sending one butt naked, using stygian skin and liquid body, but he got routed. Any tips?
>>
>>181018658
Give him a shroud (you HAVE N9, right?) and a frost brand + vine shield, transform into a werewolf, liquid body and go. Stygian skin can help a little bit.
>>
>>181018767
Yeah, but then he won't be able to larp an elf. Would barkskin amulet stack with stygian skin?
>>
>>181018986
Barksking is natural protection, invulnerability stacks only with armor. You don't want to overgear your thugs that will just go and kill some PD. Don't expect them to be good against actual armies.
>>
>>181019085
What would you recommend equipping if I'm to stick to the wolves' two misc slots only?

>>181063714
I mean, Shinu aren't unplayable. They do have things that can be done. They're just not very good, because of their weak expansion and shieldless armies.

If you want some more playable (but not overpowered) nations with interesting aesthetics, I can make the following suggestions:

Sceleria is the great utopian experiment. They're a disciplined approach to death magic, trying their best to create a society where nobody needs to fight or work because the dead are taking care of it for them. No way that could go wrong.

T'ien Ch'i have the whole "just plain human" thing going for them that some like in Ulm, while at the same time not being whiny and "but magic is eviiiil". They know that magic is just fine, and that it's part of the world, and their geomancer corps is genuinely scary.

Pelagia are doing their best to adjust to the fact that their two main sources of inspiration amongst the landdwellers got burned down and drowned beneath the sea, respectively. Now, with the lessons learnt from Berytos and Therodos, the less-elevated Mermen are quietly rebelling against their Triton masters by seeking out the secrets of the Closed Realm, which is to say the surface earth. Mainly, as it turns out, by drowning them in lions made of acid, but we all gotta start somewhere.
>>
>>181067125
>Mainly, as it turns out, by drowning them in lions made of acid
But unless you're counting boosters it's the Amber Clan that can summon green lions. And they're tritons.

>>
>>181095948
Awake E6 erf snek is good, yeah. Magic3 is obligatory for your cheap and spammable mages, other scales aren't that important (more gold is good though).
>>
>>181095948
You don't need more diversity, though having high access in a path is nice.

Awake snake or another monster+scales is a solid option.
>>
>>181095948
MA TC can use a W9 monobless for expansion or an awake expander to help them get early resources, but in general their priorities are -

1) Scales. They have excellent mages, and more money and research to get and utilize those mages is good.
2) Something to help them expand. Their basic archers and armored crossbows can expand okay and leaves you with troops that you'll actually want to fight other players with, but it's not great without an expander to help get them early resources and extra gold. With a W9 or N9 bless, they can use their cavalry instead, and sacred cavalry are really good at fighting indies even if they're unexceptional against actual player tactics. N9 is nice because it buffs up your golems, which are probably the only thug-likes that you're going to go for.

Your national summons are unimpressive in MA, since they use A and E gems and you need those gems for battlefield spells.

If you want to do something a little different, you can go for a Luck 3 build and spam your H2 priests which generate events. It's like firebirds, but with recruitables that take up mage turns.

With an awake, you can probably get by with dom4-5. And you can probably grab heat 3 to get growth 3; that pop growth is pretty big over time and temp scale isn't as bad as it seems.

Since geomancers, your backbone, are fortune tellers, you can probably grab a level of misfortune to get order 3.

Before globals, let's cover the deathmatch. The final round in particular.

ON THE LEFT, TRIUMPHANT ONE! PROPHET OF LEMURIA! TOUGHEST OF HEROES!

ON THE RIGHT, KYRIOS! A MIGHTY MINOTAUR!

Taking bets on who wins!

I decided to go with Dom 5/Order/Heat/Growth/Magic 5, which ended up being pretty good since I claimed the Throne of Winter quite early, so I basically only have heat 2.

Just forged a shit ton of boots for my geomancers and am probably going to go after Marignon's land and throne soon, although Bandor Log has quite a lot of dudes sitting on my border and those Chalice Knights are incredibly tough.
>>
>>181112358
you should try using communions. Here's a basic setup -

12 geomancers - 8 masters, 4 slaves. Have 7 of the masters cast Earthpower and the 8th cast Power of the Spheres. Then all 8 masters spam Gifts from Heaven.

You get a lot of firepower out of them.
>>
>>181112358
>>181112662
Also, in general as MA TC you want to have a LOT of mages and relatively fewer troops.

If you are massing troops, your high resource crossbow dudes and low resource composite bows are good dudes to build up. Flaming Arrows works well with them (an F2 alchemist with 2 or more gems casts Phoenix Power, then Flaming Arrows).

Unfortunately, it's impossible to do. They just shrink, like elementals.
>>
>>181118215
>Why do I need to cast power of the spheres?
It's part of a trick to make your communion slaves take half fatigue, which is what lets you run imbalanced communions with few slaves/many masters.

Fatigue for communions works oddly, but I'll try to quickly explain below.

When your communion slaves are the same skill as the communion masters, they have a 1.0x multiplier to fatigue gained via communion. This is the normal state of affairs if you just summon earthpower on every geomancer.

1x Power of the Spheres plus 7x Earthpower means all of your communion masters are E2. However, PotS and Earthpower stack and both carry over to your slaves, making them E3.

When your communion slaves have a higher path than the communion masters, they have a 0.5x multiplier to fatigue gain from spells the communion masters cast.

(there's also other multipliers, 2x if your masters are more powerful than the slaves and 4x if your masters are more than twice as powerful as the slaves)

>Also Flaming arrows seems to be F4, so wouldn't I need an F3 alchemist? Or am I misunderstanding.
Mages can spend a gem to let themselves cast spells which would normally be out of their reach.

F3 can spend a fire gem (plus whatever gems are needed for the normal casting requirements) to cast flaming arrows despite being a level short.

You can only boost up one level this way, though. Also, you can't use more gems per spell than your magical skill with that type of magic.

Ahh, I see. So can fatigue kill off casters? I noticed my communion slaves were dying off constantly, and though the communions were really effective, they were tedious as hell to replace.

Anyway, communions of geomancers dropping sky rocks plus hundreds of archers and crossbowmen shooting flaming arrows was pretty much unstoppable in combat. Thanks for the knowledge, anon.

>>181133462
Yes. Ultimately, what wins games is decisive and aggressive play. If you happened to get large enough fast enough, everyone in the game could pile on you and you'd still come out on top.

However, trying to diplomance possible contenders into fighting each other and avoiding getting dogpiled does increase the chances further. To some extent it's grand strategical decisions you make for yourself (Would you rather attack this small nation that will never be a threat at risk of someone growing even faster or risk a destructive war against a rival with potential reward of eliminating one more contender and claiming victory when you're the only one left? That sort of thing) without having to say a word to anyone else but manipulation has non-zero impact, as does trade (getting gem types that are more desirable to you, items you couldn't craft yourself etc), negotiating borders (avoiding the risk of losing troops running into enemy expansion party, possibly negotiating yourself a larger share of land than you could actually have gained in no-diplo situation) etc.
>>

EA Agartha really isn't a bless nation. If you wan't to use the Olm, W6E6 is enough to cast any spell from these paths. Get more scales though. Growth, magic and luck are very helpful for Agartha. >>181173952
If you don't have crosspaths to spend W gems on better things (green lions, mostly) or const6 for water bottles - sure, they're alright.
>>
>>181172954
You generally don't want to go bless on Agartha, your sacreds are complete trash aside from the olms, who don't really need or have a way to use a bless.
Your mages are sacred, though, so E9 isn't a completely awful idea.
Take heat 3 and stay away from cold, for the love of god, everything and it's mother that you have is coldblooded.
Magic scales is a good idea because Agartha has cheap researchers in the form of engravers, and is very dependent on research for both summons and battle magic- it's a very magic-heavy nation because all the troops are awful.

Luck is also a very good idea, because your summons are going to eat up a lot of gems.
>>
>>181174214
E9 is bad idea though since mages don't benefit from it any more than from E8.
>>
>>181173717
>>181173828
I know this is a really abstract question, but what exactly is it that makes a good bless nation? I would have thought having big tall sacreds would be number one, but are cheap sacreds and sacred mages more important than that?

>>
>>181174623
Ah, good point.

>>
>>181174738
Large units are often worse due to low attack density.
Agartha's size 4 sacreds are a particularly outstanding example- only one of them fits in each square, they've got mediocre attack and defense, and the nation lacks any size 2 units to share squares with them.
>>
>>181174738
>what exactly is it that makes a good bless nation
Sacreds that are either good or massable. Both, in the optimal case. Those may be recruitables or summons, units or commanders.
>>
>>181174738
Usually giants are good for a bless but agartha's are just shit. Niefelheim's giants are rape machines. Different blesses suit different sacreds as well. If you have tons of cheap sacreds B9 is good and if you have sacreds with lots of attacks W9 is good. Sacreds with lots of health benefit from N9.

Basically, if you want to run major bless, you should pick a chassis with high starting paths and high dominion score. For N9B9, for instance, use Statue of the Bloody Mother.

Their mages and summons are very strong, yeah.
They get a multitude of cheap, strong national summons.
Living mercury is essentially a water elementals on steroids that poisons shit around it, and takes buffs great.
Magma children are easily massable and small, and come with both an AoE melee (which cannot miss by virtue of being AoE) and flame shield, so they eat skeletons for breakfast. They're also pretty squishy and appreciate buff spells.
Summoned earth elementals are a massable alternative to summoning them in battle, but aren't as gem-efficient if they don't survive at least one fight.
Umbrals and penumbrals are probably the weakest of the lot for their price- they're stealthy, etherial, and have a lot of HP. I generally don't use them much.

Umbrals are p good actually, thanks to their life drain attacks. Just need to buff their prot with marble warriors and they become very annoying to fight. You can also use them alongside mercuries, since they're obviously immune to poison, and countering both ghost cyclopses and angry mercury at the same time can be very difficult.
>>
>>181177495
Huh, I should try that sometime.
Marble Warriors is a godly spell when it comes to Agartha, really. Almost everything has great HP, all they need is protection to back it up.

Ugh.

Mods refer to a particular catalog structure. For summod it's like on the pic. The "./" means the core mod folder. So for the mod to see sprites they should be in mods/summod/ folder. Same for worthy heroes. Rename your folders to summod and "ExpandedMods" (for WH).
>>
>>181182209
Actually, you may just need to copy everything from summod077 and WH folders to core mod folders. Pretty sure they have the right catalogue structure inside them.

If you want a serious summod Lemuria pretender, I can post a few.

Since summod gives you a starting D2 mage, you no longer need your pretender to do your acolyte/centurion summoning, though you still probably want high D on him to give you easier booster access, global casting, and eventual late game magic. D3 is also needed to summon Grand Lemurs without stopping in Cons 4 or burning precious D gems on empowering first. High E is helpful for adding protection to keep him safer during expansion, and gives battlemagic with earthquake and RoS. Air opens up more combat options, magic phase movement, and RoS (with A4E4 also giving an elemental booster which can be useful depending on what indies you find). N2 lets you make a booster for indy N1 mages to let them make utility/thug gear and site search better (since N has more level 2-3 sites compared to level 1 sites). Dom 9 helps with ghost production and adds awe to make an already fairly resilient expander even more reliable.

Lemuria definitely doesn't need help expanding, but an awake still lets you go for valuable provinces/chokepoints early and just get even BIGGER, as well as giving you something fighty to help fend off a rush. With your trash scales letting you afford extra path, you this guy then transitions into a battlefield damage / diversity caster.
>>
>>181185619
If you kill his fucking god, I'll give you 80 gems and make you a fucking flame helm when I have the research in 60 turns, and then you can make your own goddamn flame spirits and have as many fire gems as you want.

Thanks for the help tho, i'm still learning the game so that'll come in handy in the future.
>>
>>181187310
You can always resubmit. Llamaserver lets you update your pretender.

That's also just an example. You can very viably run a lich queen or a titan of some kind too on account of Lemuria's ability to dump its scales. The one thing that I'd strongly suggest is taking a somewhat resilient chassis or an immortal (so not just a crone or whatnot) and E4+ and A2+, since in LA many nations use squishy human mages, so the ability to have your pretender Earthquake and Rain of Stones can be extremely useful in beating back an enemy army and you don't have national access to those spells.
>>
The Big Black Bull will not go quietly into the night!
>>
>>181187550
Should i roll with imprisonment?

Considering the extra points it's really tempting.

Also gonna go out on a limb here and assume any non human sized pretender is resilient
>>
>>181187554
Sounds fine for me. I would really prefer avoiding any bumps.
>>
>>181187949
Forgot my name.
>>
>>181187937
Probably not. You can afford to take them awake, and even just researching early is very valuable for Lemuria since your native research is awful until you can summon Revenants (and even then it's not good). If you want to go Dormant to get that one perfect path combo that's at least understandable, but Lemuria has serious diplomatic issues on account of being a death-to-the-world undead monstrosity, so you often need the early strength to fight off a dedicated, multi-opponent rush
>>

>>
>>181192883
Whatever you need, really. Grabbing some good battlemagic (skelespam, shadow bolt, whatever) should be among your top priorities.

Construction is useful for the boosters it'll give you. A few skull staves will go a long way.
If you've got air on your pretender, you'll be able to make quills, too, which definitely helps with research. Be sure to make a hammer and save gems.

Grabbing some magic diversity from summons is very useful, too.
>>
>>181192883
>>181193342
Enchantment first for Revenants. Then you probably want to dip into Thaum 1 to let S random acolytes communion up and let revenants / everything really cast Frighten, then you can either go Evocation (Shadow Blast is amazing and your pretender will get some anti-army spells), deeper into Thaum for Plague and Terror (another anti-army spell and a way more effective fear spell), or to Ench 6 for Rigor Mortis (which is something that's amazing always because your dudes are all undead, but combos well with skeletons from Ench 5 too). For later game stuff, Evo 7 gives you some crucial spells for your A random Grand Lemurs (Wailing Winds for army battles and Wind of Death to let you suicide your immortals to cause damage to the entire enemy army) and deeper Thaumaturgy gives you Burden of Time to annoy the entire world

Are there any mechanical mod nations? Right now I'm thinking something like all your units are mechanical (+15 fatigue a turn) but you can use custom holy spells to wind them back up (think the -100 fatigue blood spell, but with short range and can only target mechanical units). Could do a few other cool things, imagine a sacred woodchipper with devour or even landships with trample.

Their pretender could be a zeppelin

I like it, but there's a few issues I noticed.

Death Oozes don't have leadership to lead their start battle summons. If they're alone their retinue will just run away. They should have at least 1 normal leadership, or their allies should be undead.

Ooze form seems like the kind of thing which should target your own troops. Against most things, I think being turned into a 40hp sacred (even one with basically no protection) would be an improvement.

Call Brown Ooze doesn't seem to do anything. You can't select a target for it, and I tried patrolling after a cast and found nothing.

>>
>>181226768
Have you tested whether Kamadhenu can expand reliably? That'd be my first concern, especially since you stand to lose a lot from dying.

You need more scales. Dom4 is unacceptable, even for a nation which doesn't care too much about their sacreds. Growth is also basically mandatory for any nation which uses money.

S6N6 is a lot of magic paths for an awake. I'd expect to see that on a dormant pretender.

I also prefer D/F paths for EA Caelum. Without that crosspath on your pretender, you're completely cut off from their death summons. Your astral summons don't need a crosspath, and can be broken into later in the game (although gem stocks can be an issue, since you can't sitesearch astral early).
>>
>>181226768
What if your reason for taking an awake pretender with such paths? Even if Kamadhenu could reliably solo expand (I'm not so sure), Caelum's expansion is on a tier just below of Xibalba, Pangaea and Vanheim and a dormant pretender should be adequate for fighting against rushes timed before your thunder strike batteries/air elementals.
>>
>>181229396
Caelum can absolutely afford and use an awake. Why would you neuter your early game with a dormant pretender when an azi or a snake will make you get significantly larger while still providing relevant magic (either evil summons or earthquakes) and very good scales?

Azi leaves you with terrible scales and earth snake leaves you completely cut off from your national summons. Both of those are a high cost to improve something Caelum is already great at.

With a dormant pretender Caelum can have better scales than earth snake as well as access to their summons.
>>
Turn 40 postponed until Monday evening as requested by the Agartha player.
>>
>>181231107
>Azi leaves you with terrible scales
You need only D2F1 to open up national summons and the azi doesn't need awe to expand so you can take Dom 5 or 6. With that build you have plenty of points to get scales. It's like one less than the snake iirc

E snake is nice in providing you with early earthquake, which works great with Caelum.

In both cases, you wind up with fine scales. Also in both cases, you wind up WAY bigger. Expansion doesn't have a brightline between good and bad. The better you can expand, the easier it is to snowball off of your size.
>>
>>181229797
Flying allows you to reach choke points first and take thus secured swaths of land second so an awake expander isn't going to increase your eventual size that much in an actual game. Now, there admittedly is value in reaping income from provinces captured sooner rather than later, but 150 design points are also valuable.

Besides, Caelum without an awake pretender is at a threshold of becoming an obvious target anyhow through their sheer size (SansMemes comes to my mind) so from grand strategical perspective any better expansion is arguably not even desirable: you can capture a dozen extra provinces the moment you hit your power spike anyway and in my opinion it's preferable to bide your time for just a moment before you pounce rather than inviting war against the world before Evo 5/Conj 5 research finishes. If you are worried about this gangbang, dormant pretender is early enough to retaliate, but your most preferable course of action is to be left in peace to research for just a moment rather than being Malakaled for certain because you have 25~30 provinces thanks to your awake rather than mere 20~25 (supposing a map with 14ish provinces per player).

Between my scales and expansion, I'm raking in tons of dosh every month. I'm not trying to save money, it just so happens that my recruitment doesn't outpace my income. I'm not limited by resources, I just don't think my non-sacreds are worth recruiting.

Should I put up more forts, or should I just start recruiting the best of my non-sacred units too?
>>
>>181234824
They're an extremist break-off of Pangaea in the first place, and LA Panii get a 10% chance of D1: it looks like one way or another they lost cohesion and were absorbed by Pangaea.
>>
>>181234824
I don't think any of the playable ascension wars is canonical (some other ascension wars are referenced in fluff but none taking place at EA/MA specifically that I know of) but that's the gist of it. Indeed, if you look at Asphodel nation description, it says
>The panii could not prevent the destruction of the wilderness and *A FEW* of them have revolted and struck back with dark fury upon the civilized world.
In other words, Asphodel probably never amounted much of anything. A small fraction of Pangaea was consumed by carrion woods but those Panic Apostates eventually died (or gave up rejoining Pangaea) and the curse lifted as vengeful mood in the forests turned into acceptance. Whatever carrion creatures ventured outside were probably disposed of by much stronger Pangaea and by LA the affected forests have recovered.

>>
>>181237070
Then what the fuck are waiting for? You lost like 50-80 potential mages with all their mage turns already.
>>
>>181236917
You don't actually lose resources, they are just distributed in a different manner across your provinces. While there are some exceptions when you might want to save them for later (say, in Starcraft you might want to pool gas and larvae to produce a flock of mutalisks when Spire finishes, and in Dominions low-end summons might not be worth the mage turns if you don't need them to survive - if you are losing with gems remaining, you've done something wrong however), spending your resources is almost universally one of the most important things you can do in a strategy game.

With MA Mictlan and the lack of blood options from mages, it seems most of the focus in on mage support of substandard troops and using your eagle warriors.

With that in mind, is W9B9 the most viable dual bless?
>>
>>181257209
W9B9 is hard to afford, and there's some antisynergy between W9 and B9. On the other hand, going for N9B9, the more classic option which exists on an immobile, will make your eagles tankier against stuff that they can't Defend against, and at the same time force enemies to do more MR checks vs Blood Vengeance.
>>
>>181257768
Jesus christ, no, N9B9 is shit on eagles. They're absolutely glass when they get hit, so you want them to NOT get hit. Also, antisynergy? The primary reason to take a B bless on MA Mictlan is for the damage bonus on your 6 attack/square flying murderers. More attacks definitely doesn't have 'antisynergy' with more damage.
>>
>>181257209
>>181257768
>>181257926

N9 really shines with the blood summons, but MA Mic needs to roll a 1/40 on a non-sacred mage to get even blood 1.

W9B9, W9F9, or a mixture of B9 and a 2 minors does well. Tank heat and prod scales and -1s in two other categories and you will be fine.
>>
>>181257768
Bad advice desu.
Eagles don't have HP or prot to tank any hits. N9 is wasted on them, they die too fast.
B9 isn't synergistic with W9 in melee, yes, but the main reason to take it (aside from bonus damage, as mentioned by >>181257926) is to punish the opponent who's trying to kill eagles with evocations, and those ignore defense.

What are strong/efficient ways to harass/clear a late game MA Abyssia as Caelum through ritual harass? I've gotten some of my death national summon mages so death/fire on top of air/water are options for me.

The only decent spells I know of are fires from afar, but thats obviously silly vs Abysia, and murdering winter which seems aweful between not killing mages and only 7 base damage for high gem cost. :(

I just don't really know how to approach starting a late game war against an even opponent when nations have lvl 8/9 researchs and seem to have large defensive advantages with first turn battles or mind hunting as defense. Help?

Okay, added ME+Summod.

EA game here: http://www.llamaserver.net/gameinfo.cgi?game=Worpal

We are 4(5)/8 now.
>>
>>181308931
First of all, you want to be bigger than Abysia because fighting a late game blood nation is gonna suck.

Secondly, your best way to harass him is to actually just take his provinces. Just all of them. Take his blood hunting provinces, siege his forts, take his income provinces, take his no-sites-waste province. All of them. Caelum is really good at mass raiding, and spending your gems on just grabbing his stuff will usually do more than just trying to harass him.

If you have individual stacks that you want to weaken, you can use Bane Venom charms and if you want to lock down his capital or valuable mage sites after your first turn alpha strike that kills its PD (because you do want to do this if you can to both his cap and any valuable indy mage provinces), you can spam Hurricane on it like 4-5 times to increase its unrest enough to stop its production.

Abysia's defensive magic (horrors, disease demons, mind hunting ,whatever) can also be used offensively, so there's no reason to NOT hit up his provinces. The one defensive advantage that he has are his recruitable assassins, but they don't usually offset the advantage of grabbing the provinces that they're in or sieging the forts that they're set up in to harass. You can mitigate their effects by bringing enough siege power (spire horn lads and great eagles, usually) to instantly breach the fort so that they don't have many turns to spend assassinating you.
>>
>>181309339
and if I fucked up and let him get to late, and his patrols are too big in mage/armored troops count for air raiders alone to make much of a dent?
>>
>>181310429
Is he seriously PATROLLING with enough stuff to beat thug-drops and air elementals?
>>
>>181310482
Not so much but theres two provinces with 15 mages and a 100~ troops I'd like to take in the first strike, the others tend to be 50 troops with 5~ blood hunters from what i can tell off scouts. Most of his blood hunting is on my border, so i don't have reach to where his open land is. but its 8 provinces(outside fort provs) I need to deal with.

RoS, easy soul vortex, can take a sick bless (and Yomi can sack the scales for one) tanky enough to survive battlefield evos. Super high MR and Morale and to top it all off they get stupidly buffed in unrest heavy turmoil provinces (if it's, say, 60 unrest and turmoil 3 thats SEVEN instances of chaos power).

Lots of versatility, and you can kit them out with a few items so they can fight in melee too.
>>
>>181325308
Not great for equipped thugging since they lose their gear in their second form.

Great battlecasters.

Can I counter it by spamming Cleansing Water?

They'll probably be fighting with a whole ton of demons, little baby Oni, that will soak up the cleansing water if you have first turn advantage then the Dai On will wreck your shit with RoS

Could someone make a picture of Ermor if it could preach?
Like an arch bishop going to door to door "Have you heard of our lord and savior?"

Why?

Asphodel doesn't need to destroy high-income provinces in my sea to beat ermor, fun fact.

I'm Ermor, how do I install this gay mod? Do I need to go get the .tga from summod and from ME?

Dead game, dead thread.

Speaking of dead things - I'm setting Caelum AI (they only have a sieged cap, some birds and 2 owl quills). And I really hope Machaka is coming back, since they seem to be in an extremely strong position at the moment.

That's gotta be at least 3.5 blesses.
>>
>>181353493
3.5 blesses is probably the best EA/LA Mictlan build. It's got almost as much joy as the true quadbless, but also Luck 3
>>
So I'm trying to make a ME TNN build, they have a lot of summonable sacreds, so I was thinking of taking a double bless, maybe even N9E6W9. But N9S9 on a monolith gets you better scales and late game potential.
Thoughts?

W9E9 N9/B9 awake Wyrm confirmed
>>
>>181353990
Their best new ME features are their battlemagic and plant summons. The sacred summons are okay, but I like them more as a way to get a stealthy raiding party for fewer gems than a thug would cost. If you go bless, I'd go N9 mono scales, but it's probably just as good or better to go awake scales and get more provinces for more gems to get more stuff

Actually, their best feature is their hilariously underpriced dolmens. If the game's not played with summod, they're RoS casters too. 20 e gems and your opponent will need a dedicated immobile-killer thug to take any province that they're placed in, and then BY THE WAY they freespawn thug chasses from time to time along with their freespawn sacreds.
>>
>>181354748
Those dolmens ARE pretty cool. Maybe an awake snek for EBDW

I think either of these would be good.

>>181354748
Looking at the code, they also ridiculously increase unrest. They don't spawn thugs either.
>>
>>181359108
They increase unrest by 5 and they do occasionally spawn the A2 cavalry dudes
>>
>>181353052

>>

>>
>>181358535
You really want order desu. The summons and the dolmens both increase unrest. With order 3 and friendly dom you can mitigate or even nullify that, but with turmoil 3 it'll build up and cost you a fair bit of money
>>
>>181361596
My thought is, Magic3/Luck3 events are so damn good, I want as many as I can get. Order/Luck events are slightly less impressive than Turmoil/Luck, neither come close to what Magic/Luck unlocks though.
>>
>>181362046
I get what you're saying, but you're going to be really hurting for money with T3.

not huge on your scale distribution. Or dom 9 for that matter. You just don't really need that much dom since you'll have a tough time affording that many sacreds / fort
