Friendly reminder that SFV and T7 are identically bad. Both have horrendous input lag, terrible online experience, a lack of character variety, and sparse on features. I bought that meme hori 4 mini, just to see how I like it and if I do I'll get a big boy one.
Really excited to relearn everything and have something I could actually bring to locals if I ever feel good enough to do so. I've always played on keyboard using WASD + UIO and JKL, so I think my right hand will be at home, but moving around with the stick is going to be really foreign I think. It will probably be a while before I feel as comfortable moving around as I do with WASD.
I know about hitbox, but I don't like that the jump/up key is all the way at the bottom. I understand it but I'd rather it be above the down button
It has a square gate, what kind of gates do you guys like/use? I feel like accidently crouching or jumping might be an issue? Idk. Either way I'm hype.
Any stories on transitioning from pad or others to a stick? Tips?

How do you feel about ELO in fighting games? I play Smash and I like the concept of the game but the fun is dead to me. I suck, and I can't even get good because the online match-up is random, I get paired up with people better than me by such large margins that I can't even play the fucking game. I want to be paired with people at or around my level, fuck this shit. How am I suppose to get better? Play computers? Wow how fun, not.

I have thought long and hard about how to fix the v-system and here is my final solution.

>Add a v-backdash that cost one bar of v-meter and is invincible in it's early frames. Can be punished if you read it. (this is purely to get extra things to spend v-meter on)
>remove v-trigger cancels
>make each bar of v-meter you fill make you automatically stronger in some way. each character will have 3 bars to fill

>add an ex version of v-skills that cost one bar of v-meter (still just to give people extra things to use their v-meter on)

Of course to truly fix sfv they should also fix the neutral game. Keep fireball zoning dead though.

v-backdash is not a good idea, the corner is especially terrible in this game and spending a v meter to safely move backwards is not a good trade off when you consider the power v meter already has in the top tiers as opposed to the lower tiers (i.e nash would spend more v meter on v-backdash but it isn't because it's great for him it's just because his v-reversal is awful and his v-trigger is only a minor combo extension now whereas balrog would just hold the meter and kill you anyway with trigger)

removing v-trigger cancels makes some characters v-triggers useless(ken and nash come to mind) I understand that it makes some top tier characters obnoxious but again it hurts people who need it and aren't strong, and takes ibuki from top tier to fucking useless

I don't really have a strong opinion on the concept of v-meter increasing character strength because I don't know what it entails, but some characters would be broken depending on what it confers, for instance ibuki is by far the best at generating v meter with great cc buttons and a disgusting safe v skill, if it's damage it only makes her gameplan that much more awful to deal with

I also don't really have a strong opinion on ex v-skill moves because a lot of v-skills just aren't great and some are integral to the way a character operates (like ibuki)

I guess that is pretty logical feedback to my post. I was however kind of assuming most characters would get their v-systems reworked entirely though so I guess that is what I would reply to a big part of the feedback. Should have done more, or anything at all actually, to convey it.


When I say they get stronger based on v-bar I mean that for example with karin when you have 1 bar you get your rekka but only with the palm follow up. Then later when you have two you also get the elbow and slide follow up. and finally when you have 3 bars you get the overhead and command throw follow up. All these moves would probably still rebalanced from what they are like at the moment.

Other characters would get different buffs. These buffs could include special moves or normals improvement or both. Now I recognize some characters like rashid and mika would have to get an entirely different v-trigger and I do not have a solution for that.

I think it improves the trigger part of the v-system while staying loyal to it. And now rereading my original post I guess I didn't make clear that this was supposed to replace V-triggers.

I'm no SF expert or anything, but I love what they've done for Guile, Akuma, and Urien in this game. Guile is ridiculously good (for now anyway) and has really cool new gimmicks with his V-skill. Aside from the nerfed fireball and the design of course, I love Akuma as well. I just wish you could do Raging Demon outside of v-trigger and that his teleport were more useful. And Urien has those sick Aegis Reflector shenanigans.

I'm actually thinking about picking up all three characters, so there's that as well.

with 40+ characters on the roster, it takes an eternity to fully study all of them and master every little nuance in their gameplan. this is why a fraud like luffy could steal an EVO win - rose was an under the radar character that nobody took seriously, but since one autist devoted all of his time to her, in conjunction with capcom buffing the shit out of her right before EVO, he was able to take advantage of his vastly superior opponents' lack of knowledge and eek out wins. in a simpler game like sfv, it merely comes down to who plays smarter, not who has the most obtuse tech. top players simply will not be surprised by random bullshit they are not familiar with. another case of this was PR balrog losing to hakan simply because he didn't know the matchup.

Man. I am glad I discovered Fightcade. Tons of fun to be had fighting people on the classics.

Marvel VS Capcom is as fun as I remember it.
I played as Captain America and Venom. Managed to hold my own pretty decently. Won some, lost some.
When I lost it was usually pretty damn close for sure. I dont like to just give up and I always try to mix up my gameplan.

I feel ol' Cap is underrated in his own series. He's a little slow, and defensive, but he has a solid toolset, he's all about the punish, and playing smartly with him reaps a good deal of satisfaction for sure.
Its ironic thats he's been there from the very start and hasn't changed all too much and has never been a "top tier" character. He's a survivor for sure. I wonder if in MVC Infinite he will get his chance to shine.

I need to work in some ways to get that Final Justice in though. People see that coming way too easily and block it. I love that move though. Its so damn cool to watch.

Might have to go practice and study up a bit on him some more and fight some more matches.

I didn't play SFV much, but to me the most bizarre thing I've always found about SFV were 2

1) V-Trigger cancel on block in particular from moves that are normally unsafe like sweeps. The game publicized the hard reads and committment, DPs still being unsafe even if you cancelled them and all that stuff, but then you get v-trigger and suddenly characters got completely skewered risk/rewards on some moves compared to normal, like chun slide or Ryu sweep. It just felt so out of place.

2) throw/attack is the main mixup of the game, and yet none of the few defensive options actually work against it. V-Reversal requires you to block something, in which case the mixup already happened. And most of all jumps get beaten by throw, because they just recover in time to punish you, so you have no defensive options against the basic mixup of the game and even what could be an answer doesn't work. I think the frustrating part about that is also that basically the only answer to that is to tech the throw, which is already an hard read and commitment, because you can get shimmied into crush counter, and the reward for the hard read is... not getting hit. There's no universal way to retaliate against throws, the most you can do is just hard read to not get hit, but you can't actually reverse the situation/punish them with anything, which feels so frustrating.
