So my first arcade stick ever just arrived and I'm ready to learn GGRev2 (and fightan' games in general since this is my first serious attempt)

I don't know shit though so I don't know if the following two things are normal:
1) When I pull the joystick up it moves about 5mm (the chrome part of pic related gets exposed, that's how much it moves). Is it supposed to stay in place or actually move up when pulled?
2) the Balltop (and the shaft too, I assume) is very loose and it freely rotates. Is the balltop/sharft supposed to be fixed in position or is it normal to rotate with no effort? Can I tighten it up so that it doesn't rotate as much?

The stock venom stick is a decent Seimitsu LS32 rip-off. If you kinda like it, but want it more snappy and in higher quality, get that one as a replacement.

I didn't and bought one anyway because I couldn't consistently do a 29 or 27 motion on a PS4 D-pad.
With a square gate all I need to do is pull the joystick down and then throw it to either upper corner. On the D-pad the corners are harder to pull off without accidentally hitting 8 first (in this diagonal high jump example).

I was playing with my friend a few days ago, we usually play for a couple of hours at night. He's a Josie player, I main Kazuya cause even though he's hard to master he feels rewarding when things go right. My friend usually beats me, Josie has some very simple combos so he learned fast. I still struggle with some stuff, especially landing good EWGFs.
Anyway, that day the score was 2-9 between us, and my friend said something like "you're losing a lot today man, don't you have better combos?", i can't 100% remember what he said because things went red, but it was something like that. The way he said it really annoyed me, like he was mocking me, and I just snapped. I told him "Yeah, there are better combos, but unlike the brainless bullshit Josie does I actually have to work to do them." he started to say something else but I cut him off and said "If you're going to talk shit, play a real character you fucking ape."
He didn't say anything after that, we played one more game and then he said he had to go(which was a lie) and left the skype call.
He hasn't talked to me since and we usually talk everyday. I feel bad but at the same time I had to tell him the truth about that stupid character. He's always going on and on about how strong she is and showing me clips of Aris using her hopkick to go over stuff.
I rather him not be my friend if he's going to play Josie.

Basically there was only one or two ways to combo reliably to ex fba, no way to combo into his ultra, losing the mask increased damage taken by +20% so you could lose 3\4+ lifebar to a single ultra fadc combo from the right starters with certain characters, the mask came off if you just looked at him funny and so on.
