I checked it and it was just a joke. Sans is confirmed to not even be in the game. (Thank God.) Turns out they're redoing the engine so that it'll be easier to make the branching paths and consequences.

Hopefully, that'll speed up development down the line. If they had a really inefficient engine, it could have caused a lot of tangled code and messy variables later on, and redoing the engine then would be much more work.

Okay, let me explain.


I've brought it up a few times before, but I've had ideas for a "sequel" story for Undertale. The idea was basically this:

W. D. Gaster has begun pulling himself back together from across time and space, which has been causing anomalies. Sans talks about this, and Frisk decides they want to save him. They cause a SAVE Point to appear in the broken machine, and that causes everyone to get "sucked in", and thrown into a different timeline. Soulless Pacifist, where Chara has been killing everyone on the surface. Chara 'ERASES' the World and that causes everyone to be plunged into the abyss. There, they'd face the 6 Human SOULs, and Gaster's Followers, while Chara is determined to find and obtain the combined SOUL of them and Asriel, and Gaster is... up to something.

But lately, I've been thinking that I should split these plots into two separate stories. When I say "boss", I mean like, the 6 Souls and the Gaster Followers + Goner Kid are characters that Frisk (and whomever else) will have to fight, pacify and befriend at the end of specific areas. With Chara and Gaster being "Final Boss" characters, like Sans, Asgore, and Flowey. Splitting the plots apart would result in a story involving Chara from the other timeline, and the 6 Souls returning and stuff, and the plot overall would be a primarily Dreemurr-focused adventure, while the Gaster plot involves him and the Followers and stuff, and would be a Skelebro-centric adventure (although both stories feature all 8 main characters).

But the way I've been thinking of the main plot, as one story, has Gaster's stuff causing the Chara and the Souls' stuff to happen at all. What should I do?

I think you're drawn up way too many things around your main plot, than the main plot itself. I'd recommend trimming the fact and trying to pull it back a little, till you can figure out what to do, first.

For instance, you say sequel, so everyone's around,but you throw them into another timeline so you're immediately working with 2x characters. I think the reason is that Flowey's murders are easier to understand and associate with, because they're very obviously lined up with things people do in video games.
And of course that doesn't justify them, because video games aren't real but Flowey's victims were real (or about as real as him, anyway), but it makes blaming him feel hypocritical. Blaming someone for murdering six children to free his kingdom is easy because that's something you probably haven't personally done. Blaming someone for murdering tons of people, just to see what happens, then undoing it, is hard when it's heavy-handedly compared to things you've done yourself.

I'm pretty heavily a floweyfag and I don't see why people would do that. He's a lot more interesting because of having willingly done the bad things he has. I don't entirely buy the whole PTSD and trauma ideas, but they do give a good explanation how and why he ends up so broken and twisted, but that's all that really is, an explanation, not absolution of it. Not to mention Asriel himself doesn't try to dismiss them either. Well, i terms of horribly things, Mettaton is the least severe and Flowey is the most severe. But, in terms of motive, reason, personality, and how they feel about their actions, Asriel is filled with incomprehensible regret and sorrow and despair over what he did, and he only did it in the first place because of being a soulless lonely flower who missed his best friend and was killed tragically when he didn't kill, and so on. Asgore is also filled with deep regret, and every time he killed a child, he only did it because he felt he had no choice. He regretted it during the act of murder itself. Mettaton? Well... he's not exactly filled wtih regret over trying to kill Frisk. He decided to kill Frisk because:

This is true for Toriel as even nowadays you have relatively few people willing to call her out on some story elements, but Asgore? The only way you're correct about this is if we ignore the early days of the fandom, where Asgore was basically Satan incarnate for all intents and purposes, barely surpassed by Chara. Most people I've seen who like Asgore and Flowey (and others) are more than willing to acknowledge the wrong they have done, it's just that their liking for the characters is significantly more than the disdain for their actions.

This also doesn't entirely go for Chara, where dinduism really is in full swing, as most wrongs are passed over to the player as well. Special case, but worth noting overall.

What you see nowadays is a backlash from those days. Asgore used to be the butt of every joke, encouraged to be left off of fanart, missing or maligned in fanwork. People generally ended up disliking Soriel partly becausd it turned into a vehicle to help Asgore to an assisted suicide. The reason people don't constantly harangue him and his fans is because it's been done to such an extent, that it eventually annoyed everyone and rolled over.

What tends to happen now is barely a fraction of the old days.

I like Flowey, Asgore and Asriel. I don't really like Toriel though but that's more because her character is too bland for me and I'm not really into the whole mom thing.

Asgore totes murdered people but I still love his character not because he killed kids but because his reaction to it and his motivation for doing so. If he wasn't canonically suicidally depressed I don't think I would still like him because until I saw that ending I wasn't really sure what to think about him. I can understand why he did what he did and I know its weird to say but I sort of respect his choices? They were horrible and awful of course but I get it. Flowey though is the more interesting choice and I love when people actually explore his post TP character without making him just the gote in a flower body and actually have him struggle with trying to be a decent person despite the shit he did. Seeing him try to make connections with people despite his inability can be pretty moving if done right, or at least I feel like it could because outside of a few one shot comics i've seen its not really a subject explored much or done right imo. I've toyed with the idea of doing something before but I think my interpretation would ultimately piss people off since I would end it with Flowey completely failing to cope with his inability to make connections and lashing out and realizing that he will never be able to have a happy life because of what happened to him. Too depressing I know but that's how I think it would go

The way I intend to organize it is by dedicated certain parts of the story to them. Like how in Undertale itself, the Ruins is like a storyarc dedicated to Toriel, Snowdin is that for Papyrus, Waterfall is that for Undyne, etc.

Like, introduce the character at the start, develop them and whatever their issues are as the story moves forward, and have everything build up to a climactic battle that ends in their problems being solved and they officially become a friend, or at least an ally.

Something I know I want to include with Integrity, is development for Undyne and Monster Kid. In the True Pacifist route, Monster Kid starts to somewhat dislike and not care for Undyne, but in other routes they are actually able to see Undyne's true heroism. For Undyne herself, I want her to discover the immense Determination that she has deep down, and a theory I have is that some of that DT has been "blocked" somehow (possibly by Gaster, but not sure if this is possible), and half the reason it's blocked is because her true heroism is blocked by her hatred for humans. In True Pacifist, she grows to make Frisk and exception to it, but still has some contempt for humans. So, in a moment dealing with Integrity, I want Monster Kid to see Undyne's heroism, and I want Undyne to tap into her 'Undying' power.

But anyways, Integrity. I'm going with the idea that they were an incredibly dangerous dancer that killed a lot of monsters (with glee), but I am not making that the beginning and end of their character and personality. I want to figure out and develop how their murderous actions tie into their Integrity and what internal conflict or problem that it stems from, why they climbed the mountain in the first place, who they really are deep down, and... stuff like that.

I like the idea that Integrity killed a good amount of monsters and tying that into their trait.
I feel like turning Determination into generic ki energy that someone can tap into will cheapen not just what made Undyne's fights so great in the first place but the entire character itself
I'm not sure how to put my thoughts into words.
She's not powerful or heroic because of her determination.
She works hard and cares for her people, that's all she needs.
Her passion and dedication is what gives her determination not the other way around.
Saying it's something she just has naturally and can access it at any time gets rid of all of that.

Okay, Main Story. Main Story...

There are anomalies in the space-time continuum. Everyone is experiencing memories of other timelines, including deaths. The anomalies build up to True Pacifist and Soulless Pacifist timelines coming into direct contact and the main group discover Chara. The 6 humans have also returned somehow, and they are under Chara's ""control"" (via either manipulation, weird LV/EXP stuff, or something), along with having their own issues alongside that. The key to Frisk saving the 6 humans lies in Asgore. And then at the end, Frisk (and Chara) have to face Chara (and their corrupt Frisk). They may or may not have to travel outside of reality, like into those hidden rooms in the games' files or whatever. In the end, the 6 humans are saved, Asgore has been at least slightly redeemed in Toriel's eyes, and Chara... hasn't really been "saved" at all, but something has been done to try and prevent them from doing any damage. Point is, Soulless Pacifist!Chara and Frisk are still corrupt, and play a role in the second story, which centers around Gaster. I just need to smooth out some details, figure certain things out, and stuff.

Well, I have written and posted a story here before. It was a story involving Sans meeting counterparts of his friends from other universes where they fill his "role" and stuff. The last chapter I posted had them all fighting Gaster, but since then my ideas and stuff for what Sans!Gaster's motivation and life and stuff has changed, and because of that and other stuff I might completely rewrite the story from scratch.

It manages to make Chara an asshole who doesn't manage to fit suspiciously cleanly back into family life (like in some fics), while still staying optimistic overall.
Basically, it's a believable execution of a Chara who did inexcusably bad things but isn't a murderdemon.
