Zhin is all about compensating for the fact that you fucked up. His default kit is pretty meh, but you can more or less fix much everything if you're careful with your card choices.

He'll never be great, but he's a perfect choice when it comes to preventing yourself from getting styled on.

The game has witnessed a steady decrease in TTK over the past 10 or so patches, but it's still not particularly fast compared to other titles.

The important thing is also that all that stuff happens automatically. You can technically apply the same formula to Evie, for example, but actually accomplishing any of it requires you to know what you're doing and follow up (with the exception of Ice Block, but even that can be screwed up).

Today I had a talk with my friend about importance of not taking deft hands every game. It was difficult, but it had to be done.
He's very stubborn so I low-key expect him to keep picking it when playing solo, but at least my conscience is clean now.

It would be good if there was a way to check whether he was doing this throughout or not, though it could just be coincidence and gamesense. The Drogoz was near the opening on the wall around the cathedral, which can be seen without wallhack. Bugzy was just juking around that wall. I would probably get flamed for this, but if that's what they are going for, instead of nerfing Caut/Wrecker, they should look into buffing/reworking other items instead. If so, then other items would have worth and would work into the consideration of what to buy, while it also makes buying items feel more impactful.
Like, for example, for Red Items, maybe buff Bulldozer to instead of doing 25/50/75% damage to deployables make it 50/100/150% instead. Even at Bulldozer 2 I still have troubles breaking Inara's wall as Sha'Lin before the wall just collapses on its own. The item is just not impactful.
Deft Hands, it is a powerful card but the 400/800/1200 price gives it no reason to be picked over Caut/Wrecker. How about it is changed to 200/400/600 or 250/500/750 instead, or completely reworking it to be something like "Multiplicatively bypass 30/60/90% of opponent's damage reduction." That way, with this card at level 3 you could potentially counter Haven/BS 3, Mother's Grace Inara or Flux Generator Ruckus. Just some ideas being thrown around.

the only good situations for deft hands I can think of are on buck and mal'damba for more consistent damage and for memes respectively and even then cauterize is still buck's best option and it's usually better to pick whatever the team needs more like wrecker or bulldozer on mal'damba

As in adding extra utility to the the champs worst hit by the cards (ying, nando, torvald, grover and grohk to some extent), since it seems to me that the champs least effected by the cards are the ones who have utility outside of their heals shields(m'koa, damba and seris chiefly).

So I saw the OB patch thing and the tourny this past weekend and I just downloaded Paladins last night.
I usually play paragon and have been looking for a new game to scratch my combat-moba-hero-powers urge
It doesn't scratch my /k/ itch like other games do but I'm having more fun than I thought I would.
The heroes I like are Cassie, Ash, Seris, Skye, Tyra, Ying and Kinessa so far.
I've been through some of the OP but what are some of your personal tips for someone new like me?
Are there any heroes that I should drop/learn due to incoming nerfs/buffs?
Any good spots on maps that certain heroes dominate more than others?

Just as a footnote, there's a free champion weekend going on. That's why you can play so many champions. The usual free roster consists of Fernando, Pip, Skye, Viktor, Tyra, Cassie, Drogoz and Kinessa. Despite that, it's not that hard to unlock all champions as you play.

For what heroes to play, all of them are viable in low to mid tier. Things get more stretched out on high tier as people get better and has better gamesense, but you will realise this soon enough.
Still, the meta picks per class is most commonly like this:
Frontline: Makoa, Ruckus, Inara, Barik.
Support: Seris, Mal'Damba. Do experiment with other Supports as well since Support in this game is pretty fun.
Damage: All of them are viable aside for maybe Tyra or Kinessa.
Flank: Androxus, Evie, Lex. Skye is the worst.

In OB53 coming the next patch, there will be a lot of changes regarding projectile speed. I don't know how this would affect the meta. I would predict characters like Cassie, Willo or Grover coming into the scene more prominently, but we will have to see.

The maps always have 2 flank paths to the side of the center and each map is different in terms of size, verticality and design in general. Most of the time characters that have high verticality like Androxus, Drogoz or BK would dominate, but on some niche maps like Timber Mill snipers like Kinessa would dominate. There's not really any good spots on maps or secret paths that can give a hero an edge. You would just have to play and experiment to see for yourself.

She's not entirely bad. She has her molotov which is a great area denial tool and has a really high tank-shredding potentiality with her F.
The reason why she is considered not as viable is because she doesn't have a movement ability. Aside from her and Torvald, a frontline, every other champions have at least 1 movement ability, to escape from danger or to accelerate movement, et cetera. Tyra doesn't have this, so she cannot chase down people and she cannot escape danger.
She is still pretty good overall at mid-tier so don't fret.

Don't main Skye though. She might seem OP because she can pubstomp but as people get better and has better gamesense/aim, she is pretty bad. The time you would spend wrecking nubs with Skye is better off spent on practicing with other champions.

The problem with that is a lot of the "bad" champs like Torvald and Grover are actually really successful at the lower levels of play, because they often have simple mechanics and can get a lot done if the enemy team doesn't actively counter their gimmick. This is why you see Torvald with the highest win ratio in the game despite being a meme.

Outright buffing them or adding to their kits isn't going to help things on a macro scale, because they'll just end up seeming crazy imbalanced to sub 1.2k elo players, who make up the majority of the game's population.

They are fixing a "bug" where his jump wouldn't go on cooldown if, for example, he was hooked in the middle of the air by Makoa. Normally he could jump away immediately, but with the fix his jump would be on CD.

I see it as depending on how tanky the other team is. If you kill a guy with 3000 HP, 10% lifesteal is the same as Kill to Heal 1. If you kill a guy with 6000 HP, 10% is the same as Kill to Heal 2. But that math is only if you do all the damage.

Liferip also works if they get away, so sometimes that's nicer.

Let's say you like basketball. Someone's holding a local pickup tournament, so you decide it might be fun to attend.

Unfortunately when you get there, you find that the organizers have gone a little overboard with the idea of fairness - they've changed the rules and court to make sure everyone is on equal footing. Whether they're 9 or 90, crippled in a wheelchair, mentally disabled, or normal, everyone is going to have an equal chance to succeed.

And even worse, they've not even made separate brackets - you're going to be on a team with this colorful wash of human deformity. You have a few choices. You can try to yell at the mass of human broken humanity - "Jump higher!" to the guys in the wheelchair. "Run faster!" to the old grandmas. "Think better!" to the little kids. But obviously you're not going to get very far there, and most people will probably just mistake you for one of the disabled kids.

You can exploit the system to only put you with and against the cripples, so you can just run circles around them and win every game. You'll be king of the retards, but people will either laugh at you or continue to mistake you for one of the retards yourself.

You can just accept the ridiculousness of it and try to find what personal enjoyment you can, regardless of whether you win or lose.

Or you can leave.

I pulled through all the shit and I'm sitting at 3k elo. I can definitely say that the thing that really fuck ups the MM is parties. HR needs to revise that or just straight up make a solo queue but sadly, I don't think the player base is big enough for that.

When parties are not involved it's still bad but better. Worst case scenario you are playing at late night and you end up in teams with 2k elos. A lot of them might be bad but at least they know enough about the game.

You get it. I see people say things like "aim better". How the hell is that supposed to help them? If they could aim better, they would. Telling them they should practice getting headshots to do more damage might help them. Just telling them not to miss when they're not playing as an artillery with limited shells is pointless.

Shadow Travel is going from a 5s duration on a 12s cooldown to a 4s duration on a 14s. It wouldn't be too significant if not for the fact that Seris won't have her out of combat healing when she comes our of it anymore.

At 2600 the most common ELO in my matches was 1900. Me and 4 1900s against some 2000s and one 2300 every game.

Since playing with better people was my only reason for grinding, I failed to see the point and gave up.

Now I insta-lock Maeve every match and just try to have fun.

Game is definitely more enjoyable this way.

Is ranked much better than QP?

he takes 25% of the base damage dealt to the shield as chip damage AND
his shield can now be healed (if he is missing both health and shield the heal is split between the two otherwise the heal only effects the missing part)

the idea is at guttertrash elo he'll have the same ehp since when you take the chip into account his hp is the same as the new ehp but when you leave the gutter he gains a lot more power since the shield can also he healed

People in ranked matches take team comp more seriously, but that goes hand-in-hand with people in ranked matches taking everything more seriously - which can both positively and negatively impact your experience.
