The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for physicians:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):

>Crossout
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general
>Shadowverse, found in the shadowverse general, /svg/, not in this general

I really like the looks of factorio, but I heard the devs don't want to put it on sale because they don't want to reward people for waiting to buy the game and having it "devalue" the games worth.

This really puts me off of buying the game because I don't want to support arrogant developers.

customization packs are skins for the weapons
>>
>>180759531

>customization pack
Its just a weapon skin pack. The crate has a totally random weapon skin in it. Once you use a skin on the weapon it can no longer be sold on the market.

>worth making?

No. The obscene workbench "rental fee" is insane. So not only do you shell out 2000 gold to make 15 parts, they also suck up a massive amount of materials, and give you a totally random thing you probably dont want.

At least the customization packs can be sold for like 400 gold a piece. The paint boxes on the other hand have a HUGE chance to just give you some shitty white tier paint thats worth like 5 gold if you dont like it and want to sell it.

If you really want a certain weapon skin, just buy it off the market from the whales and gambling addicts that already opened a bunch of crates and are selling the skins.

>>
>>180762540
>for the purpose of opening and reselling what you get out of the crate you think they arent worth it?

Do the math yourself.

Take the huge gold investment it takes to rent the workbench, and then add up all the scrap, copper and wires it takes to make each crate, see how much profit youll make, and if its worth it to you.

>>180762398

I would not be surprised if they decided to cut out multiplayer and told you, you have to buy infiniterobocuck

It gets easier when you get enough blue stuff to do consistently well in medium-difficulty raids [providing the teams you get aren't totally stupid]
Three normal raids gives you more than enough copper for a blue item, and beating the daily challenge is almost half of the scrap you need

No. Type "CK" into the search bar for the Customization Kits. They are listed under the Rescources tab.

The crates themselves sell for 289 gold, but have a very very very very very very small chance of giving you a purple skin, but will most likely give you the shittyones that only sell for 40-60 gold
>>
>>180763342
oh i see
so its just another gamble bait

i am seriously considering all possibilities here
i have around 1100 dollars, some blue weapons, no blue gear apart from a light engine and around 9 wooden crates

i desperately need a safe way to make money because i have been trying to get these 3 equalizers for weeks and i dont even have all the blue components yet

one guy before said crafting is stupid and i should just buy the purples, the problem is that i dont have enough money

i really need some help in investing this money wisely
>>
>>180763961
>9 wooden crates
Sell them, they're awful
>>
>>180761742
It's arrogant because you aren't willing to put it on sale to potentially attract new customers because you feel it would devalue the game and your work. If 20 people pay 20 dollars it equals 400 dollars. If 40 people pay 15 dollars it equals 600.
>>
>>180763007

Apparently someone's made a big plane to air-launch spacecraft with. I have no opinion on it until it's tested, but whatever

Also, in the process of looking it up, I've realised there are THREE versions of 'ton' that people use.
I thought Americans were just using the imperial one, but no, they went and made another just to be cunts.

As I see it, devs have no reason to care if 100 crates are sold at 4 gold or 200 crates are sold at 2 gold.

Every gram of steel means more kinetic energy, which means you need more explosives to stop the fall.
Another issue is in vague phrasing. How much time is "just before you land"?
There are limits to limits to how much acceleration a person can experience and live.

>not a word about internal damage and dismemberment in criteria
I think that's reasonably covered by "survive".

I would argue that if isAlive() and atBottom() are both true, then it's a success, even if one of them ceases to be true a moment after

>>180815904
I assume the pit is deep enough so impact alone kills you outrigth, so a clever method is required so you can survive like strapping a bomb to your chest

Now, what if it was not 1 explosive charge, but plenty of smaller ones, that would make for orion drive deceleration?

>>180815993
The shock of what, constant acceleration at 1 g?
You might not have noticed, but you're experiencing it right now, and (likely) have been since your conception.
The only way I imagine someone dying in the middle of a free fall (as a result of the fall itself), is due to drastic pressure changes or outright dehydration.

>>180816289
>Now, what if it was not 1 explosive charge, but plenty of smaller ones, that would make for orion drive deceleration?
At this point, you might as well just ask for a jetpack or a helicopter.

My fuckup, not yours.

>some are instagibs
No such thing. You die when brain function ceases, which in this case would be due to your brain smashing against the inside of your skull (or the ground, in case your skull is obliterated).
This means that in order for you to die from impact, the atBottom() has to be true at some point.
However, there is necessarily a delay between brain->surface contact and skull->surface contact (because the brain is inside the skull). In between these two points, isAlive() is true.
This delay might be pointlessly small (a fraction of a millisecond, perhaps), but it is none the less there. This means that for a brief moment before you die, isAlive() and atBottom() are both true.

If we stand by the 'code logic' of what constitutes as a successful descent to the bottom of a pit, then it follows that any free fall is survivable.
Do I really need to spell out that I'm only drawing this conclusion to spell out how absurd the 'code logic' is?

Also, there are only a few FR cars, but you can put a centrall diff to make some of them AWD, and then set the torque split to the rear (25%F-75%R), its the closest you can get, but as any AWD drifting, you need to be extra carefull with the coutntersteer compared to a regular FR drift, sometimes not countersteer at all.

build guts (conveyor network and subsystem that require it), add essentials (additional power, gyros, steering, thrusters, etc.), wrap in armor
obviously you plan out the guts and thurster types etc. according to ship's function, if you have no idea for a function go watch some tv spess series and nick theirs (not neccesarily designs, just functions: ie. battlestar's vipers and raptors are 1-man maneouverable fighters with fixed guns, while raptors are troop transports with side entrances)

No. That's just the exhaust pipe leaving the turbo.

Some cars do have "rear mount turbo" where the whole turbo assembly is mounted at the rear of the car it has a few drawbacks though. (Long pipe length results in a slow to react turbo)

Stock up on everything you can for when they let the steam babbies play the game through steam.

They'll probably have a big steam front page ad, and steamlettes will be flooding the game wanting to buy shit, while you sit there with your mountain of fuel/scrap/copper/tickets/wires/DIY crates to get all those steam shekels.

New FTD update:

-You can make dedicated masts using new mast blocks
-There's new propellers attached to circular blocks, for muh aesthetics (about time)
-Sail blocks have new higher quality texture (sails don't)
-There's another kind of wheels named mock wheel
-CRAM cannons have heavy armored versions of the normal barrel.
-Advanced cannons also have heavy armored versions of the barrel.

Neato, do the armored barrels traverse slower due to the armor, or are they just heavier and more expensive?
>>
>>180908954
Yes, they traverse way slower because they weigh aprox. 5 times the normal barrels. As for the price, they both cost the same as their normal counterparts.
I also forgot to say that advanced cannons now have 2m, 3m, and 4m long barrel blocks.
>>

You're correct, what i'd do is use steam pipes to simulate shafts of the small props and drill shafts to simulate the shafts of the big props. Shoddy, but it can look passable enough

not very good
stable but gameplay is very lacking

my biggest complaints about it:
>retarded crafting (need 5 ores to make 10 ingots and building a specialty machine to smelt is not only dangerous to be in proximity to but only smelts things faster)
>no inventory connections/management (magically can access any part of a ship's inventory via control panel and interact with items in it as long as you own the ship, cannot move items between inventories automatically, must be done all by hand, enjoy having to run to your generators at water to get the objects they produce)
>arbitrary limitations on the number of weapons that can be present on a ship (only 6 gatling guns or 4 railguns, ect)
>ammunition loading on ships is so retarded that it leaves the remainder of the rounds when reloading, if you try loading 4 rounds into 3 gatling guns the game will just refuse to load the last round
>restricts how many autominers you can place on an ore patch despite the miners being retarded expensive and slow as fuck, the only legit way to quickly mine with them is deploying tons of them, compounded frustruation by the fact that you have to physically visit them to get the ores they produce
>ai is braindead retarded and aimbots, turrets that aimbot are the only other thing you fight, better bring armor and a fuckton of health
>best medkits heal 100, random root on the ground heals 250
>speed limit on planets of about 40 m/s
>no engineering
its more about exploring random prefabs that are put on planets and in space but I haven't been arsed to build a capital ship just because of how shit building in the game is and how dumb the blueprint system is. It's actually way easier to make blueprints since you can just dump any random block into it to get progress towards it and there's no other way to use those retarded blocks you find or accidentally craft.

There has been (another) update

New (another one) texture for repair tentacles (both of them), shield projector, shield color changer, stairs and munition warners (this last one is bugged, so i'm assuming it's a mistake).
New shield effects (aesthetics), now they look like this.

New bullet parts for custom cannons: HE head, EMP head, Frag head and new textures for the other heads.
Also added altitude, timed and penetration depth fuses (only CRAM had those before)
Added "heavy" pumps for laser cavities (it's a pump that has a 1x3 size

Added autistic err... acoustic sensor to decorations

And that is all if i'm not forgetting anything

ok so how do we make a fuel catel?
If we get enough sale orders at the same time we can dictate the prices.
>>
>>180956856
The problem is that there's no way to control supply, because things like fuel and copper are generated by players.
It would have to be certain items, probably second tier, that could be controlled, and those are a decent investment to build in the first place.

Am I bad at game economies? I might be.
>>
>>180957310
there is no way to control supply, but you can predict patterns in it
supply is not smooth, it's given daily and since players are not distributed equally over timezones and not always play at the same time production of fuel and copper will fluctuate
add to that that many players will only play the bonus

the proposed market sweep is still possible, but it would have to match (or slightly precede) a dip in production
>>
>>180957310
but fuel is fundamental. You need fuel to make copper, and to complete quests that give out extra rewards. Fuel is usually on top of the "popular" tab in the market so there is always demand.

Maybe we could buy all the fuel we can now, wait for the inevitable nerf to fuel gain, and pump the prices up by fixing the price (remember that usually only the first 6 orders or so appear to the user)

>>180958634
It's moreso something I can play at work if I have down time. And I can leave it running for periods in the background.

Also, is it normal to kind of... abandon your bases a lot at the start? Like when the resources dry up, you just move base or should you gather all the previous base first?

>>180958756
It's mostly to let it run in the background if I have work.
>>
>>180958880
I would just hit the pause button, but you do you

and it's normal to migrate bases, not abandon, you pick it up and remake it, but rarely because of resources, those shall be trained in, because of layouts and new tech
>>
>>180906532
Wouldn't a huge influx of new players all generating fuel end up dropping the price?
>>
>>180958880
typically you'll run out of resource in your starting area and start building infrastructure to transport resources into your base from further away

go out and set up outposts on new ore patches and cart in the ore (or cart in plates by processing the ore at the outpost). Leave your assembling machines at the main base and just add onto that. If you're not playing with increased ore richness then you'll probably spend a lot of time setting up outposts

It's just cheaper to use a train and two stations than running 4 belts for a thousand tiles.

Play chode for a while, become super autistic about realistic space warfare, and then any spaceship design that isn't a cylinder will trigger your autism.
>>
>>181026442
cylinder is impractical for purely cosmic warfare. sphere is optimal shape with minimum surface for enemies to hit

elongated shapes are only used in real life because all spaceships must be aerodynamic, at least originally
>>
>>181026669
Spheres are impractical to manufacture though, so partially rounded shapes are used instead. Maybe an oval would eventually be used in favor of true cylinders. This is of course assuming only very close to modern tech, so no 3d metal printing on the scale of entire ships and all of their internal components.
>>
>>181026669
Spheres are harder to build and are suboptimal for external systems mounts. You can build more guns that cover each others arcs better on a cylinder of a given mass than a sphere.
>>
>>181027225
if we're talking realism, guns are impractical. if enemy comes into such range that arcs covering each other even come into play, you're doing it very wrong
in realistic space combat you're supposed to engage enemies out as soon as you see them on long-range radar. guided missiles, that sort of thing.

they will also vibrate to throw off targeting and tracking systems and dodge attacks
>>
>>181027387
They'll also certainly know you're there since there's no stealth in space and be engaging you too, so it's always a good idea to have some point defense guns/lasers.
>>
>>181028002
you don't need many of those
and they ain't gonna be gun, just targeting/guidance system jammers

and hitting small moving targets at distance of a thousand kilometers is pretty hard even with guided missiles. active defense would only be used extremely rarely
>>
>>181028182
You can't jam a missile unless it's using radar though. Heat-seekers will just keep tracking and they're going to be common because whatever you want to destroy is likely the hottest thing in their field of view. Lasers are good for frying thermal optics. Also particle guns are getting some talk on the chode forums because they might be able to fry electronics much more efficiently than lasers.

well it would look more elegant and flowing than some fatass bitch shaking her ass at you
>>
>>181030342
...there are other options for timers?

one rotor at hip, one at knee, one perpendicular to them at ankle. original idea was that legs make this shape
/ \
| |
and then the rotors reverse movement each X seconds, while landing gears on each leg alternate lock/unlock
>>
>>181031128
That's so fucking crude as to be completely retarded. You need code.
>>
>>181031952
code lags everything, as I heard
can't have a huge-ass robot army with code
probably could make a single big mecha with code, but I don't need a single mecha, I need an army
>>
>>181031128
solely reversing is bad for movement, you would have to mix it with pistons for that, something I would advise against
go and put 1 timer 1 programmable block in the thing, set the timer to execute code and trigger the timer itself, this way you get 60 times per second updating
in code add if-else clauses for each rotor's current angle and velocity, preferably with some boolean flags for leg is currently going forward (or other flags, depends on how many phases of movement you wanna do)
If you are one of THOSE guys you can mod in easy automation scripting mod, which will allow you to make simplified sequential scripts in lcd panels which in turn will control all the rotors.

for inspiration get bruceleedleleedleleedlelee's mechs from workshop and dissect them, as well as this fugging monstrosity, which iirc does work in multiplayer (but lags everything)
https://youtu.be/1EuTswzjx3M

quick disclaimer to the mechs: they have thrusters, but work if you cut them out, they are added as a sudo-jumppack
>>
>>181032103
depends on how complicated the code is
but if you are really worried about it, go with 1 programmable block and intergrid comms, 1 mastermind to control the movement of robots

>intergrid comms
what's that?
sorry, I'm kinda new
>>
>>181032347

so pistons bug worse than rotors?
>>
>>181032103
Well for one you'll need code to control them. Two, you're not getting an army of anything. Two wings of fighters each, maybe, but you're not gonna play RTS in spengies.

That goes double for you can pretty much do whatever with a slightly old engine and the rules it says that the rules about spamming do not apply to be able to pay the fees for you can pretty much do whatever with it is at eye level facing the tin like you should have I the first place in a hobby where the cardinal rule is that there is a new way of thinking and a sprinkler valve has every right to be able to pay the fees for you to understand the concept of anything.
>>
>>181032524
antennas (or laser antennas) can carry code instructions
intergrid comms, as in communication between separate grids (usually via spessradio)

I have not dwelled into it, so I have no idea what are the limits, but I have seen some insane creations, including swarm commanders

>>181032648
oh yes, rotors are quite stable if properly configured (don't go too fast, don't go too strong, just enough to make you move, but if you get blocked you don't rip a hole in anything)
pistons on the other hand are better avoided or at least set to some length that you need and permalocked with safety lock

I was avoiding rotors ever since I broke a spaceship with improperly configured one, and heard that multi-grid blocks are bad in multiplayer

in that vein, are wheels different from rotors in that regard? wheels never work for me in multiplayer, just get stuck, as if safety locked

>>181032704
oh yes, I am. not with robots, but I am.
I'll have to figure out the algorithm, so to say, but I'll have squadrons of ships moving/acting in turns, so no more than, say, 12 are active at any given moment.

Inertial movement, reload times, Shoot: On and gyro/thruster overrides will carry on in between "turns".

The only possible problem that could spawn from this idea is accidental creation of factions within servers based on which range of models to be used, resulting in civil war (e.g. Ice Planet builders fighting Insectoids fighting Blacktron etc.)

I would say away from wheels, they are quite broken and currently not being patched since keed admitted defeat and they are remaking whole wheel code from zero.

rotors on fast moving objects are still dangerous because of lag and desync, I don't know what's the safe limit, but I do set mine to autolock on 30m/s
below that speed I had no greater problems recently, but I do try to be very careful with how they are set up. ie. one time I set rotors to so slow that given task would take them approx. 6.5h (went offline since it was multi, came back, got 6 tanks of h2 full) pic related

I wish Crossout wasn't a grinding game

Just have cosmetics for sale or some shit, having an 'engineering' game where 99% of components are gated behind grinding is fucking stupid. By the time you get all the parts you need to get creative, all the creativity has been wrung out of you by the mind eating grind.

>>
>>181042948
There doesn't need to be progression
>>
>>181042948
>>181043224
What about brackets divided by maximum part count?
You start in the 50 blocks bracket, here you mostly use space efficient stuff (ie: instead of making a complex and powerful engine system you may want to use less efficient systems that save up on space)
Then you graduate to the 100 block bracket, then the 200, 300, 500, 1000, etc etc.
From mini cars to fuckhueg leviathans, obviously in bigger vehicles you want to use the more complex (and block-hungry) but more efficient systems to give yourself that bit of extra performance to get an edge on the opponent

Dropped.
>>
>>181043732
>I just wish cross out wasn't so limiting
The goalposts will move.
>>
>>181044920
The limit is when the servers can no longer support two creations (since at a certain point it will devolve in 1v1 matches due to the amount of blocks needed being too much to support a full team of vehicles on the server's part)
>>
>>181045243
A better alternative is to make the "engine" block a single, but larger, cube that has "internals" that have to be put together in the garage and determine how many blocks it counts as.
So a 3x3x3 engine could hold 27 blocks of engine crap, but will only take 1 block of processing power when in the field.
>>
>>181046024
Eeeh, i wanted to make it more "complex", as in you have to run the fuel lines, give it a exhaust pipe, add the piston slot blocks, make the appropriate carter and so on, in other words, tweak the everloving fuck out of the engine.
The very simple engine block+fuel block is good for the smaller builds but it will not be able to support a larger creation (fuel lines increase the amount of fuel that can be transported for example, if you don't have them then the engine might end up starved in fuel)
>>
>>181046831
You could still do that, you'd just be simplifying the processing demands of the engine itself since it'd be a single physical object.
How you arranged the parts inside the magic engine cube would determine its behavior and where you could hook in fuel lines, exhaust, ect. Then when you mounted it, it'd be able to tell "fuel like is plugged to exhaust port, engine is fubar".

Same goes for fuel lines, etc, you'd merge identical adjacent blocks into larger rectangular prisms to save processing power.
>>
>>181047298
Ah, now i see.
Might be doable then but what do i know? I have zero programming experience myself

Most "base building" games aren't /egg/. Only the ones where the interactions between structures are sufficient that the base becomes a complex system, e.g. Factorio.

E.g. a typical RTS isn't /egg/, and weak constraints such as having to place structures within powered zones or connect them in some way doesn't change that.
