How do I build a 2U Hexer?
I'm only at the end of the first stratum, and I've mostly put points into Venom Curse because that is basically an auto-win on random battles, especially with the 2x poison meal.

What are your other classes?
If you have a Dark Hunter you want to get the binds (and use whip on DH), if you have a War Magus you want more ailments and if you have no dedicated buff unit you want Frailty Curse (more damage is nice but EO2U has hard diminishing returns for buffs/debuffs).

Good ailment skills are Madness Curse and Evil Eye (with one of the fear skills) and on the binds side leg bind is the least important since not many dangerous skills use the legs in EO2U.

EOIII has two main towns with some political intrigue and a bunch of other cities in the sea. Sea quests also have a bunch of characters in them that are actually a bit fleshed out.

EOIV has the most "adventure" with four lands, two lost races and an ancient empire.

Depending on what you want to write any of those are probably the best settings.

Well, before the player guild came along only the first land was discovered as no one really bothered to take down the first boss.
Also they were handing out arships to anyone that could get Irisident Ore so there is some opportunity to travel for free and laze around out of town.
Since Logre is stuck in Tharsis and the Medium will not suddenly make the trip to the Empire herself there is not even any immediate danger as long as the player guild does not stirr up everything.

Overall it's a city stretching over a windy plain.
A lot of flat grass all around, stairs and slopes in the city itself and Yggdrasil (and danger) far away on the horizon.

Basically it's on a hill. Like High Lagaard but more extreme.
All in all, this series really loves this kind of town. Lagaard and Tharsis are on a hill, Armoroad is on a slope, Arcadia is on a mangle of roots at different heights. The new town in EMD2 is also on a slope.
The only "plain" towns are Etria and Aslarga - which is more of on a plateau.

Guys I just BARELY beat the boss of the first dungeon in EO4. Essentially every member of my all lvl16 party died, I just about managed to kill him with one last hit from the medic, who would've died the next turn.

I guess my worry/question is, because my medic was the only recipient of the XP she's now 2 levels ahead of the party (18), is this damaging for the party and just generally shit for the game? What's the rule of thumb in these situations, do you go back and keep trying till the majority of the party survives the battle?

It wont cause you any actual problems, unless you're autistic like the rest of us and can't stand seeing your party with uneven levels.

You can always go to the Guild and rest a unit down to even out their levels, or take the lower-leveled ones out on their own until they match.

I just beat EO2U Chimaera, and I finished the fight with everyone almost out of TP.
I had no problems with defense, protector and princess made sure everyone could take hits and regenerate.
My problem was dealing damage.
Even with half of its HP gone from traps, and the free hits from being stuck in a trap, the fight was 15 minutes of hitting it non-stop, only taking breaks to re-apply freeze oil.
Will all future bosses be this tanky?

The others will catch up eventually, it annoyed me back in EO1 but you get used to it.

Got back in to playing EO4, had a really bad time in EO3 because subclassing was new to the series.

Most people tend to replace Medic with an Arcanist at some point, even better as a healer if it gets subclassed as Medic later.

What is your favourite class, for me it is the Nightseeker subclassed Bushi, gave mine two katanas for the speed boost

After a boss difficulty usually dips a bit as the game starts introducing new types of enemies so you get somewhat simpler groups. But experience gained from enemies increases so you should soon be about the level your party would have been if they hadn't all died.

Ailing Slash is the damage skill you want to use on War Magus - just don't rely solely on poison to activate it and get some other ailments in there.

There are harsh diminishing returns in place in EO2U.
Between Attack Order, Guard Slash and Warmight only the strongest will be 100% effective, the second strongest 60% and the weakest 20%.
So I'd say you can ignore one of them since the last damage increase does barely anything.

Also with two Vampires and Protect Order there is no need for Artery - but pick up Barrier instead, it is often more useful than Prevent Order.

Himukai is moving away from blondes, look at Kenkaku.

Blind and paralysis should stick rather well to the Berserker King. Maybe you got unlucky there.
Other than that your Runemaster is best used to throw out a Ice Rune to increase the ice damage the boss takes. Nightseeker has an ice attack and Ice Coffin (a Burst skill for a quest you should have done shortly before fighting the boss) is also ice.
When the boss takes his stance to soon unleash his big attack just unleach all hell on him including the Burst skill and you should have enough damage to know him out of it so he wastes some turns for nothing.

For adventure episodes you will probably want a bunny.
Masurao can either be a highly offensive class or have decent defences depending on which second name you pick.
Hound can be a supporter which you don't really need or a damage class.

Either would be fine for your party - for what it's worth the offensive Hound also has blindness and head bind which you are otherwise lacking.

Well Reaper type B can punish ailments set by the two casters, or have the Dragoon protect a scapegoat. Those seem pretty good damage synergies, and you already have tanking, ailments, damage and healing. I'd add a third front row character, because that's how I roll, but anything could work.

It's not that important but on the first run I'd do so.
You also get some XP when you fail them but there are sometimes different consequences like getting blindsides or losing a bunch of HP or TP.
Nothing that will outright kill you but it can be annoying if you don't know what to expect.

Even in the post-game Dark Hunter/War Magus/Hexer will destroy everything.
You can even reclass your Medic into a War Magus, they work similarely well in this class.
Throw in a Protector and you can keep eihter your Souvereign (who will no longer be able to activate Link Order) or your Gunner - or pick up a Troubadour to ne-shot several bosses with how broken Dark Hunter is.

Hexers have way better infliction chances with Curse Mastery and Creeping Curse as well as a far bigger selection of stuff.
They also have a nice bit of damage for random encounters with Venom Curse.

If you are not landing ailments you have little room for Ailing Slashes.
Some anons here report bad infliction rates with Survivalist Flavio but i never had too much trouble.
Although a Hexer is already more accurate there and has a better selection - but I found myself getting enough free turns just with the blind or paralysis food (depending on what bosses were less resistant against).

The story party is also only support heavy if you let it be that way. Fafnir is overclocked as hell, Link Order on Arianna is great and Ailing Slash is just brutal - having three heavy hitters is plenty.
But if you take Chloe out by having her spam Barrier instead of locking down the boss in other ways you are in trouble, yes.
A Gunner might be of help there but I can't see a Survivalist plinking away being more than a bandaid...

And for Ur-Child you can either reclass Flavio back into Survivalist and fight an actually not too badly balanced fight
Or make him a Troubadour and go for the turn 3 kill, wondering how they managed to mess up that badly.

In the beginning you will get shit on a lot until R and DH stabilze and the general murdering can start. Poison and sleep can help in that regard.
Neither Protector nor Landsknecht are worth bringing - they have been gutted since EO while R, DH and H got overbuffed.
WM and G are just generally strong and useful in replacing Medic and Alchemist.

Front Guard on Protector as needed for the scaling TP, then smite/str up, then elemental walls
War Magi is a healer who mostly auto attacks, you can get sleep cut 1 to help trash sweeping but it will be largely useless. get the group heal and start working on transference or whatever its called to pump someone else with TP and Curse Cut to restore your own TP

Hexer should be getting Torpor and TP up ASAP, Torpor is king in this game, work on debuffs later on, and then Curse
Gunner should get all the elemental shots to Rank 1 and leave them at that, its scales like shit. after that max out STR for stonker bullet.
