really been scrubin it up online this week. went from maurader to grandmaster with one of my 2 mains Lars. I want to compete in this game at a high level and I will not give up. I know some of you maybe going through a similar experience and I just want to say dont give up. A huge part of this game is getting bodied and you will improve if you stick with it.

also I really hope they add more character customization like in T6. These costumes are super weak this time around.

also I made a simple combo guide for Lars for what I think are his best most reliable combo options. posted it two weeks ago but I hope it is useful. The wall splat combos may change your view on Lars.

Use the shit out of f1+2, check anyone with b22 or df12db2. If they don't duck you get to party all day.
B11 is +4, frametrap people with your party time df12.
If you are scared like a bitch mash flash for big damage.
Be prepared to sword sweep or windmill if you think someone will tech.
Be careful with your lows. They are not great. But uf2 combos into flash for Stier damage. And nebular burst, though slow, is very safe in comparison. Nebular Burst 1st hit is +4. Your only plus low.
Rainbow Drop people as much as you can.

I really like how she plays but I'm getting decimated in ranked despite knowing a lot of her options from the top 15 moves.

I just always seem to have trouble of knowing when to use a move to punish while they're attacking me, I think they have recovery on their moves but it feels like they have none. Even worse on people who just mash jabs out when I'm near a wall.

My strategy is to play a no gimmicks Yoshimitsu while I use his special moveset like a set of trump cards. The range I play Yoshi is at the tip of his df4 and df1. This is a good range for almost every one of his moves and it gives you some good breathing room to avoid attacks.

he has a pretty decent back dash too which compliments his range nicely.

his lows are not all that great but you will need to use move like db 3,3,4 and his full crouch df,4 to frustrate your opponent. He can be scary in full crouch so people will try and hopkick you quite a bit.

an important move for this character is ff 4. It is a safe mid launcher that leaves you in back turn. if this move gets blocked, do not hit any buttons or you will get hit.

get familiar with u4. This is a safe homing move that wall splats and tracks on both sides.

f1+2 is a safe mid with crazy range. use this move to show opponents that they must respect your screen control. if they block this move at max range and hit a button, you are almost guaranteed a punish.

use ss 1 for a decent and safe pushback move on the opponents wake up. also launches on counter hit.

ss4 is a great move that is plus on block, gives you a combo on counter hit and is also a tail spin. underappreciated move. just be careful because it is high.

I honestly am having a hard time explaining what makes yoshimitsu effective. He is not such an easy character to explain.

I hate to eave you hanging but this is kind of all I can think of that makes sense. Most of learning to play Yoshimitsu is to experience playing him first hand.

Last thing Ill say is that you can pick this character against anyone in the game and win. He is very versatile. I recommend checking out his movelist and shadow boxing in training mode. That is the best way to break into this character.

I know the feeling bro. never got past warrior in tag 2 even after playing the game for nearly 5 years. Honestly I think the games ranking system needs to be reworked. It never will be but I do not think that matchmaking in this game is very intuitive. I am starting to ignore ranks and setting my search to "find all" so I can improve against every player of every skill level. It sucks getting less or potentially negative points or doing this but my intention is to get bodied to get good so I can eventually go back and tear green rank apart.

I'm new to the game and fighting in general, and I feel completely fucking lost. I started playing ranked a couple days ago. Playing Master Raven right now, I've read some guides and watched some videos, memorized a couple strings, but I just feel completely out of my depth.

Like when I'm in a match, I can hardly remember all the options I have because I feel so pressured, much less use them correctly. Even when I win, most of the time I feel like it's random/I got lucky. Most of the time I'm just throwing moves out there to see what happens, which I know isn't correct and is incredibly, but if I don't do anything then I end up getting pushed into a wall and comboed anyway.

What's the trick to doing really fast side-step cancels and shit like the pros do?

Whenever I try doing the side steps and canceling with another motion etc., I end up being too slow or my character stutters in one spot like they have parkinsons.

The top 15 has some weird errors in it.

Sidestep cancels is just doing b, b, d quickly. Absolutely make sure to not double tap d or you will get a stutter.

As long as you feel like you're getting a tiny bit better each game then everything should work out eventually.
Try to get a hold of your bad habits (do you tend to use certain combos too often, playing too aggressively/defensively) and just purge that shit clean out of your mind.

What rank are you in treasure mode? The bots start getting pretty decent around after purple ranks, I only lose to hard matchups or when I get really sloppy though.
