You can try to be nice to the other factions (Peacekeeper) or be a force to be reckoned with (Emperor), but in the next storyline you get forced into conflict with the other factions anyway.

No, Kotor2 assumes Revan destroyed the Star Forge, was hailed as a hero, tried to teach the Council about dark/light combined training and was told to fuck off, so he blackmailed the council into letting him marry Bastila and he'd keep silent about his own personal mastery of the Force, went home and shagged Bastila like a champ, then memories (of Vitiate) came rushing back and he went off to fight him on his own. Hello, I would like to talk about my experience with this game.

I bought it when it came out but had trouble running it on my computer at the time so I just wrote it off as a loss/got distracted by other games. Sometime last year I was in a SW mood so I downloaded it and started a trooper but was turned off by lack of controller support (yeah yeah say what you will but I've had loads of fun with FFXIV and DCUO with a controller). Then a little over a month ago after feeling a little uneasy after finishing Mass Effect Andromeda and wanting a reliable Bioware fix I started this up again and have been playing in earnest since.

I chose to start with the agent as I had always heard it was the best story and it did not disappoint, to the degree that I almost want to go back and side with Jadus and make different choices, etc. I love my character, but was disappointed I couldn't be space lesbians with Kaliyo or Reina. I got through the Hutt expansion and then started Forged Alliances/Revan. As an aside, I wish the game gave a more clear path for the order of the story up front as I got mildly spoiled by dialogue on Ilum before finishing act 3.

Story is far and away the main reason I'm playing, the gameplay is standard mmo fine and I can tolerate the mouse/keyboard but I have no interest in interacting with other players in pvp/flashpoints etc aside from scoping out their fashion choices. Fashion is a big deal for me in games where you create your characters and I appreciate the many vanity slots I can switch between. So I'm in the middle of Revan and I was shocked to find I could do flashpoints solo! I wish all mmos had this. I had been skipping flashpoints up till now and I wonder if the solo flashpoint option is available in all of them?

I played most of the game on the free version, but toward the end paid for a month and haven't been disappointed. (cont)

So once I was paying I was inspired to make a bunch of new characters, like six. The legacy family tree (which as far as I can tell has no gameplay effect?) intrigued me so I made a whole story where the Jedi guardian is dark side because his dad is a Sith warrior but his mom is a thicc Trooper and they have scars from when they fought and the kid was taken to live with the Jedi. I also have a Mirialian consular ninja (sorta based on Janina), a Twi'lek smuggler, and Rakkatak...ian? bounty hunter who's huge and pierced like Xerxes from 300. They're all in various stages of act 1 but needless to say I'm running wild with this game.

Some assorted observations: I love the command system I just unlocked, I think it's a great way to reward/continue progress after hitting the level cap. I still don't know what the number next to the planet/location I'm currently on means. I did a loyalty mission for Kaliyo and I assumed there would be missions for the rest of the crew but they haven't come (yet?). Some of them (Vector's Kyllik summit, Lokin's attack on his lab, Reina killing her father) seemed REALLY IMPORTANT and like things I should have been present for to possibly affect the outcome but they just go off and come right back and they move on. That seems real weird, did I do something wrong? I am often tempted by things in the cartel market but have yet to buy anything, though I've enjoyed using the GTN quite a bit. I wish the romance options were better all around cause some of these options are...bleak. You best believe I'm getting with Lana currently though. I wish the choices you make to let people live or die, etc. had more of an impact on the story beyond a follow up email, but hey whatever I get how Bioware can be sometimes. (cont.)

On the topic of expansions, am I wrong in thinking Revan is really good and Hutt Cartel was really...I dunno, thin? It just felt like a regular story arc mission for a random planet and not like the overall plot was advancing. Plus I got really hung up trying to do heroics and dailies (which I generally haven't done much of) trying to get the Imperial Infiltrator title.

But Revan so far is rad, I'm right near the end of Rishi. It's such a cool, weird planet with pirates and bird people. I liked the mission where you help Watcher Two, I felt that needed to happen after what was and wasn't addressed in act 3. It's kinda weird that Revan is canonically a bland white dude but I guess picking a canon story from the Kotor games is probably the smarter move for BW.

Hutt Cartel was pretty much a sidestory to get the Empire back into fighting condition by gaining access to Isotope-5 while Republic wasted resources just rescuing an entire planet.

Revan feels nice, having to play the hush-hush game until we can come out of the shadows, leading to the showdown on Yavin. It's like a sneaky version of Kotor with Dark Revan taking on the role of Malak.

I'm sure this has been discussed long ago, but I've always been mildly bothered by the technology in this era of SW being largely identical to the movies, despite there being like 3000-4000 years in between. And I understand and appreciate the practical reasons, people want an authentic SW experience but it can't have a direct impact on the movie canon, etc. But is an in-universe explanation ever given for why technology has stagnated in this galaxy? I seem to recall old SW comics from the 80s or 90s that were about the Old Republic before it was defined in the BW games and they had crazy organic ships and way more low tech weapons, it was neat.

I love most of what Disney's done with SW since acquiring it. It feels extremely active and vital in a way that it just plain didn't after the prequels, regardless of how anyone felt about them. Heck seeing Rogue One is what basically got me to pick up SWTOR finally.

But it was generally accepted that Star Wars galaxy is in a permanent state of "trying to make a better battleship" in so much that from a certain point you can only go bigger, badder, better, faster. It progresses at an extremely slow rate and often depends on something to push it to go faster. Hyperdrives have existed since the time of the Infinite Empire, all they've done up to the movies is to make it go faster. Ship design changes vary only in terms of making it better than the enemy's, if only slightly. I mean Jesus, Rogue One has a Hammerhead cruiser in battle and those things are 4000 years old in design.

You can't really miss out on crew-specific missions anymore. Used to be they'd only unlock after acquiring a certain amount of Influence, now they just unlock with storyline.
If they don't have a quest symbol above their head, there's nothing to do.

If you start KotFE without doing them all though, only then will you miss out on them.

Well besides the timezone issues there's also lag to deal with. Expect 200ms ping on Harb. Also you can use the time difference to your advantage (e.g. don't have to wait for Face Merchants mobs because Harb's barely active during your peak time)

I think you're a bit confused.
Missions happen all the same, but you see, only one character per class has the priviledge of having missions you can accompany them on. The other 4 only get fade to black while they go do their thing, and their missions end up just being dialogue.
Used to be in beta they were planning to give interactive missions to all of the crew, but it was canned at some point.

Thank you for the clarification. That's super lame! I would be content with just a dialogue scene for each one, or something other than a fade to black. It really undercuts the importance (perceived or real) of those companions.

I will say I do enjoy that the companions have dialogue in the expansions, as I feel like that was something overlooked in some of ME's DLC by just giving you new people or having Shepard be solo.

Space missions can be pretty fun if you're fine with the on-rails style and the level 7 ones can be pretty damn challenging even with the best upgrades.

GSF queues are 20+ min on every server except Harbinger and there's a solid chance you'll just get thrown into a match of gunships camping in drone fields but otherwise yea they can be fun despite the clunkiness of it.

I used the lvl 10 gun they give you with leveled mods through the entire vanilla story because all the mission reward guns are locked for free players. I eventually got a better gun near the end and have since been using late game guns found on GTN. No idea if I'm "playing right" but I've had little trouble with story missions since they've apparently balanced them (or the leveling) to be baby easy. That's not a bad thing personally, I'm just here for the story.

Still use my Columi lightsaber. It looks good, has the traditional sound effect and comes with a cool name (Punisher). And even to this day, I have yet to find an offhand saber that looks/sounds better than the Athiss Fusion-Core one.

To be fair, the Kell Dragon Offhand surpasses it in looks but it's a Sith saber sound. The remodelled version, Righteous Mystic, also uses something undesirable for sound. Sound modding never.

Hence the disparity in living standards, and what's materially on offer, between somewhere like Coruscant and Tatooine You could say food replicators and teleportation are the most obvious absences from the SW universe; I always felt that this was tied into the fact that the galaxy is in a near constant state of war, and even the Republic (the most prominent and lasting political organization in setting) is demonstrably terrible when it comes to actual logistics (movement of resources) and scientific federalization (what usually leads to major, innovative, research for the betterment of all). We don't ever get the sense of a universal scientific community or consensus in Star Wars. Most of the big scientific exploits are pulled off by private mega corporations (Czerka etc) and these are naturally driven by profit rather than a desire to increase the overall quality of life in the galaxy. Food replicators and teleporters would likely put Czerka out of business so they don't pursue these options. It's interesting to note that the empire, for all its ills, would likely have led to the establishment of a concrete interstellar scientific community over time which might well have engendered genuinely new technologies for the first time in millennia.
