I have a lot of fun with no/minimal pair up runs.
I tried it first on Hard mode, without reclassing, using kids and all that. It was absolute hell. My MU wouldn't stop getting RNG screwed and I hit a wall on chapter 16. I just gave up.
After that, I managed to complete one non pair up run on Normal. Fast forward to now, I tried to do it on Normal again, but this time reclassing a bit (for example, I'm running berserker Vaike now, and I'm also using Kjelle) and it got way too easy. So I restarted on Hard. It's weirdly enjoyable, despite the same turn reinforcements. Mila Tree, Gangrel's map and that one map with Mustafa were surprisingly fun.

Only pairings I did were Fem! Robin with Chrom and Stahl x Sully. Working on Cherche x Virion now because I love them and I plan on using Gerome this run, so Sully's probably getting the bench when I get her (she's way too Str screwed, Stahl can be good dual strike help for Kjelle who is also a paladin,at least)

Currently on chapter 16 and seems like I'll be able to complete it this time. If I hit a wall I can always recruit Morgan and feed him so he can get me out of tight spots.

By the way the story and supports aren't THAT bad.
The Valm arc feels filler but it's pretty ok for FE standards IMO, and Walhart/Grima feels cooler after Echoes/Gaiden

CC Merric is pretty much the only thing my flier team is probably afraid of. If an enemy team can somehow get him to either get the drop on Spring Camilla or tank a hit from Gronneblade, she's toast, and literally only Caeda and Palla stand a chance against him otherwise, of which most teams only run one(including mine). Lancebreaker is probably optimal to ensure doubling in case they run high res lancers like Est or Clair, and provides an extra niche in dealing with Effie and the rare Wary Fighter Wendy. He does have high enough HP to take advantage of Renewal though, and maybe even run Panic Ploy now that that's a thing.

Since the AI doesn't seem to have a single element of randomness to take itself out of loops like these, and there's no hit/crit RNG, someone could in theory create a battle simulator that picks the best set of moves a player could possibly make, and decide if the scenario is winnable with the current team in first place. Atk+3 and Cavbuffs will make up for that bane easily enough. I've had that same spread with Elise for ages and decided to keep it when a new one showed up since -Res didn't seem worth the trouble of a few more points of damage with HP that low, and doubling is better for damage and survivability anyhow. I've been doing just fine with her chipping things to death back when she was my only cavalry for the "kill level 35+ with Cavalry" challenges so I've gotten used to it. Probably my most used unit along with Cecilia and Ursula all things considered.
