Haven't gotten past level 4 so far, will probably need to start using save states soon since the game is quite long. Game's a blast and looks very crisp with higher resolutions, never thought I'd appreciate the weird 3D.

4's an easy stage, a strat i use is to have a sense of the option theif timer for example i activate the 4th in stage 2 at a point i've mapped so the theif comes in 4 at a safe point now go forwards and let it take the last one leaving you with 3 as the homing cunt is to risky to try not losing any. 5's the best stage in any gradius ever you're gonna love it even though it's brutal and yeah i like its look to.

either of the last 2 but yeah vertical mines is the best type probably overall, it's laser is obsolete aside from stage3 as it cuts bubbles in half immediately but the usual strat is to keep the normal default shot as its super fast and powerful until 4 then switch to spread until 7 then i usually suicide or die to get past the retards with arms and kill the 7 boss with default shot then switch back to spread to finish. Using the mines effectively is really important and you want 2 speed ups for everything pretty much, i use 3 for bits but it's not essential and harder if you don't know what you're doing.

What is better: Charge shots like in R-Type, or burst beams like in Cyvern for example?
I personally hink burst beams are actually better, since they don't require charging and can be used immediately. Always having to charge kinda disturbs the action.

Charge shots can have a nice BOOM effect though which is also a plus.

15 gems/orbs/whatever you wanna call those things you use to summon familiars. It's not that much alone, but the game still just gives you so many free gems considering all the ways to get them... I secretly have over 1100 F2P gems just saved up and sitting there for something I'd fancy rolling for. Nothing's come along in a while.

And yeah, the size gets massive over time. Mine was nearly 4 GB large before I finally just uninstalled and reinstalled it, which wound up dropping the size by like 3 GB. Apparently, the game never clears out old event data, so it'll just continue accumulating scenario/voice/image/stage/BGM data until it bloats out that much. Important to note down your recovery code and user ID before doing that, else you can't recover your account, of course.

Man, I sure wish that Raiden Collection was any good. I wanted to buy it today but then I noticed the reviews that haven't really gotten any better in time.
Can't those French fucks at DotEmu get anything right? For fuck's sake, I really hate these arseholes.

I have almost every SNK game they ported and I deeply regret it because some of them are fucked and for all I know they could all be.

All you have to do is get ONE game working correctly, how fucking hard can it be? It's not even proper ports either; it's just one or multiple bad custom emulators running a rom, with a shitty, shitty, awful UI that makes legendary, beautiful games look like fucking flash games. Should've just packed fucking MAME with these games rather than give DotEmu the money to produce such trash.

Imagine being given legends like Raiden, Metal Slug, Shock Troopers, and a bunch of other Neo Geo games, some of the most sought-after arcade games ever on one of the most pricey consoles that exist. And you have the nerve to not get them running 100% perfectly. Thank fuck they never got their dirty hands on KoF, but instead they got all the shmups, which is just an absolute shame. It's just not fair...

Looks like they're porting Windjammers for PS4 now too. It actually looks good and like it was done with love.

Tbh I don't enjoy Metal Slug as much as I imagined I would either. Contra and Hard Corps and such are more to my liking, they just feel tighter from my experience. Metal Slug has rather heavy and restrictive movement, can't just jump around like in Contra. Still great though, it's just a bit ridiculously hard sometimes.
