It's a good general purpose LBG, but it'll be beaten out by elemental guns on a bunch of fights. Ultimately unless you're challenging yourself to get the fastest kills you can then it'll serve you really well. It also fills the unique niche of being the only LBG that can rapid fire Slicing S, if i'm not mistaken.

His HBG and Bow are also extremely powerful.

Oh, and you might already know this, but his guns auto-load 1 bullet every time you roll with them.

It's not that they "hate" it per se, it's because Capcom may or may not have decided not to localize the Switch version of MHXX. Can't say I love Garuga or find it fun to fight, but I still prefer hunting 10 of those OCdonotsteel Kutkus than hunting a single azure rathalos or any other rath at G-rank.

I think it has to do with the fact that you're bombarded with all kinds of rath quests throughout the entire game, in almost every game, while Yian Garuga doesn't get as much spotlight as Mr. and Mrs. Never-enough-subspecies.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only animation that indicates a monster's health is limping which is only done out of combat? If you're talking about fatigue animations like stumbling and failed attacks, that's not related to monster health at all.

I wouldn't support a standard healthbar and I definitely would prefer if there were more clear animation tells, but I don't intrinsically dislike the addition of the heartbeat monitor.

It was largely monster dependent I think. It performed very well on monsters that required you to do a lot of rolling, like Shaggy, that were also weak to pierce. Other monsters that just needed standard Normal 2 spam the Livid Griscannon was better, and there were better siege bowguns available for monsters that didn't require you to stay as mobile.

Yeah I wrote that up in a bit of a hurry while a bit tired, basically what I meant was that I would have preferred if they had made/added more idle animations and stuff that related to monster health, but instead they added the heartbeat which to me just seems like kind of a budget method of achieving the same thing.

The sound design is kind off as a whole really, weapons lack the same audio impact they used to, like in GS's case it's missing the meaty slicing sound, and now it sounds like a blunt weapon impacting (which I guess is a little more 'realistic', maybe sound depends on material now, I dunno)

Bow sounded pretty anemic too, the sound wood impacting the monster's hide isn't quite as good as the impact sounds we're used to

I suppose I could have asked that question better. I mean, of course, killing a monster in a game designed for you to kill monsters doesn't exactly make me feel like I'm 'good' at the game. Would time spent in a fight be a better indicator? Or not getting hit at all during a fight?

If you get your job done you are cool. There are fans of killing the monster really fast like time attacks but I don't think is needed. If you learn how the monster moves and to time your attacks you are getting good. You'll eventually start to do things like not needing certain stuff anymore and being able to tell when a monster is about ready for being captured without the need to see it limping. This is a good indicator of you growing better at the game I think.

What's on your wish list for MHW? Returning monsters? Weapon buffs/nerfs?

I'm hoping they rework bows a bit, I'm sick of there always being one incontestable best bow because of the confluence of rapid shot, power shot, and coatings.

I am actually a bit worried by the set pieces

How many times do you really think you're going to bother (or enjoy) leading a monster up to raths pit just to stomp them, then wash them down the mountain.

I mean we've already seen it, we know how to do it you just run. Its not like this is a sustainable feature like MH normally gets.

I just hope they are not wasting too many resources on this stuff. All those M v M animations cost a fortune in time/money which could go to whole new monsters instead.
