Excellent then. To put it simply: Its an isometric rpg where you explore the Dreamlands. There's various stuff to do and encounters are turn based. Most of the "classes" are variants of witches & other occult specialist and the encounters use a simple card system. I'll tell you more when I can actually show an encounter but it should be interesting.

Based on yesterday's feedback I made some changes to the UI.

Left is fleet overview, which shows all ships in fleet. Clicking a portrait will switch to that ship overview and inventory.

Centre is the ship itself, split into internal/external view. External shows hardpoints and point defense, internal shows compartments, bays and command staff.

Below is crew and plants. Crew are like weapons/trinkets/items.

Plants are like potions/food.

Right top is the currently selected ship inventory. Below that is the shared fleet inventory. This makes moving items between ships easier and more streamlined.

This is the internal view.

Ship is shown in wireframe with compartment locations. Mousing over compartments shows the stations, which officers/support staff can be assigned to (Officers are abilities, Support staff modify abilities - like PoE gem system).

Bays are support skills and Command staff are items (rings and amulets).

If you were looking for a gimmick for the big gun then maybe a general "heavy" weapon class that has some mobility downsides like lower max boost time and maybe slower movement while aiming? Could also add some overheat stuff to the gun itself and maybe a minigun style spin up time.

Also you better implement a rocket lance to charge people with in the future.

It weighs a ton so that already reduces the speed, I think people wouldn't want to use if it slows down the mech even more. Also think of the Heavys, they are already slow, no need to make them even slower.
I was thinking of making it a 2-hand weapon so that the player can't equip another weapon in the other hand but rev-up time and/or overheating is a neat idea too.

Next weapon incoming: The Plasma Rifle!

The primary fire is going to be the classic fast-moving, globular ball of hot goo we all know and love, coming out at a semi rapid rate. I’m going to try having them bounce around up to three or four times as well to differentiate more from the SMG.

Every new ranged enemy from now on is also going to fire slower projectiles, I’ll leave the near-hitscan bullets for the TV-Bots.

I’m still debating what to do with the Secondary Fire. I could do a heat burst like in D44M, A beam like Unreal’s Link Gun or Quake’s Lightning Gun, or an even slower charged shot that comes out in an arc and does damage over time in a small area for a few seconds. Anyone with a preference?

First time posting actual progress on this, Ignore the stolen assets and the shitty recording quality.
Had this idea for zombies for this Castlevania clone I barely work on.
Normal attack: you destroy the torso and the legs keep coming at you.
Low attack: you destroy the legs and the torso crawls really fast at you. You can't attack the torso so you have to jump over it.
Could get interesting with a lot of zombies on screen.
Also I think is the first time I show the MC sprites here too.

You should have a personal twitter for you where you post the game, not a twitter just for the game. That way people get to follow a person instead of an entity. When working in indie or 1ma you shouldn't concern yourself with high poly/sculpting. You're better off just box modeling your game ready assets and focusing on speed over detail.

You will never finish anything if you sculpt every model.

Actual artists start with a lowpoly to get the silhouette right, then sculpt based on that and possibly retopo into a new lowpoly if needed.

I'm actually attempting somewhat high-poly art. What I've been doing is modeling the mesh in it's low-poly state, then using multi-resolution for sculpting detail. Then of course I bake the high-poly sculpt onto low-poly.

Also, if you don't like Unity, give UE4 a try. I gave up a few hours in when using Unity whereas I'm actually making a game with UE4.
I find UE4 much more comfortable as a (mostly) ideaguy.

Turns out the armature's pivot point wasn't at its center and I had also forgotten to re-import the animation (walking animation was higher than the default pose for some reason)

Made this popup window that displays stats of a weapon in a chest that you can pick up. Not sure how to proceed really, I wanna have another window with your current weapon in for comparison, but I'm not sure whether to allow the player one weapon at a time or start making an inventory of some kind.

To me, crafting goes against the spirit of roguelikes, which is the emergent gameplay coming from using a combination of random shit to make interesting stuff happen.
It sounds very unfun to potentially have all the ingredients for something and then for the last component to literally never spawn because random.

IVAN has hunger and I think it is fine, it isn't intrusive and only comes into play when shit hits the fan. It also works well because you can eat most things but a lot of the abundant things have negative side effects so you only eat them as a last resort.

I don't know what I expected lol. But yeah, survival and zombies are overdone. But something like Metro, Stalker and TLOU, maybe with robot revolution and half mutants, would that be overdone?

I have one idea for a game set on an island which is basically controlled by highly advanced robots, and the game is set in a near future, but there was no nuclear war, instead, a robot revolution happened. On one part of an island there is a huge fortress you have to infilitrate, and the surrounding forests, beaches and a small ruined town are inhabited by half mutants that were once normal people, on which the robots have done some modifications and sent them in the wild to see how different mutations will interact with each other and who will come on top. They are basically trying to engineer a perfect organic killing machine or something like that.

The other half of human population which surrendered has now become their soldiers with some additional high tech modifications. They are now patrolling the island and controlling those wild beasts they created. To be more interesting gameplay-wise, you wouldn't really be a super hero, but you would also have some cool gadgets that will help you along the way. Grappling hooks, heat sensors and such, idk atm.

Anyway, I don't have enough space to go into more details, but yeah, there will still be mutant enemies and that post apocalyptic aesthetic going on, could it still work? I'm thinking about using that idea for my GDD I have to do, what do you think?

Even without jiggle it's likely that they'll at least slightly be affected by shoulder movement, having them them 100% weighted to the chest would be odd. Topo also affects how shaders work, but I couldn't explain that.

I'm still mindstorming it, so I can't go into much details about the gameplay but basically, it would be similar to games like Stalker and Metro combat-wise, but Far Cry and MGS stealth-wise. I'm imagining a part of the game where I need to gather some intel inside the oil rig. There will be a few boats you can use, so I'm riding through the storm in the night, evading the lights coming from the platfom, climbing up and evading/disabling guards in my way.

You play as a highly trained spy on a mission and you are constantly in contact with your commander like in MGS. You start close to that small ruined town and you need to gather some boat parts so you can actually make it usable, so in short, there will be some fetch missions like that.

You have high quality weapons and like those cyborg enemies, you are also equipped with some high tech tools, but you will acquire more throughout the story. In the part of a game where you are sent to a nearby forest, you will be sandwiched by different kinds of mutants that fight each other, so you can use that to your advantage. There will also be some low key sailing off the shore to one of the oil rigs in the distance, and figuring out how to climb them. Given that the island is inhabited by a robot race, it opens the possibility of different types of bosses, one of them could even literally be one of those oil platforms that is sentient and when you get on top of it, it could decide to dive into the ocean and you need to escape.

There is not enough space to write about everything here, and I'm planning on creating some 3D concept art for this because I get that you can't see the same vision I have. I'd just like to know if you think it could be a good concept to develop for that class.

Why not a mix of both? You play a character coming from the east, you find a nice plot of land. You start a farm and build a house, and eventually some people pass by and you work together to eventually build up a town. You have full control over where buildings are placed and stuff like that.

I know of Ren'Py, but Ren'Py is purely for VNs, so I would have to do the TRPG stuff from scratch. Which I have no fucking idea of where to even start. I didn't know of that framework though, so that's useful. I was ready to make my own for the VN, but knowing that there's something out there already to speed up development is good to know, thanks.
