I use Minmin typically with RamRam and popper. They recover so fast that they can just dodge the curved hit and popper loses to the punches. I think i'll add Dragon to the mix and try out being super defensive. Thanks.

Blocking isn't useless, but you shouldn't just hold block, unless you can't get away from a rush attack in time or maybe you're trying to bait out an attack that you can punch through.
You have a small window after a successful block to do a dash, and your arms should be charged for a quick counter punch while you dash.

Yo he's tough but you can do it. Just be constantly aggressive and take the center high ground. Hold your rush until he tries to jump back up on the center platform, then let him have it. I found grabbing to be bad vs him since he has so many arms to block it with. I also found that choosing some basic arms and spamming punches at him constantly unless you need to dodge was pretty good, since his ai stops punching occasionally and you'll get hits in

I think a good strategy with Master Mummy would be to have a Megaton on the right for blocking punches and grabs and have an electric arm on the left to stun so I can safely go for a solid 200-damage grab.

Might be also good to make sure your left arm is fast. Maybe an electric bird. But sacrificing an elec. for good speed might be good to. Maybe a Toaster so you can keep knocking people down, its not much damage but its a lot more safer then a grab, and because your always blocking you'll always have charge.
But yeah having a megaton is a must, I haven't tried with the electric equivalent though. Being a MM pretty much makes everyone think they can grab you.
The only problem I have with MM now is people using wide arching arms or that are to mobile in air to try and stop their grabs.

From what I've seen, holding jump/dash/shield will all charge your fists. The charge occurs afterwards in the case of dash or jump, so they'll charge near the end/after the animation ends if you keep holding the button.

The explosion is electricity. If the seekie and the explosion hit it's a knockdown, if it's just the explosion it's a a stun. They're very good for long range but you need a side arm to deal with people getting close.

Honestly the newer BotW Amiibos were made very well so I think Nintendo is interested in providing official figures. They're just very conservative in their production habits only churning out what they know is popular. That's the reason why Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey, games with a polished and known formula are getting Amiibos out of the gate. I could see ARMS Amiibos in early 2018 if the game sells well enough.

First arm I got for Mummy was Sparky, and that is my go to combo. Megaton on left, Sparky on right.

I think the issue I have with Megawatt vs. Megaton is that, while the weight lets it blast through other arms, it doesn't increase in size like the Megaton does. Unless they have curving arms, it is really difficult to get past a charged Megaton.

A Thunderbird might work better than a Sparky but as a medium glove you can trade better with it IMO. Really depends on if you want the curving vs the weight, I'll get back on that once I unlock the Thunderbird.

Avoid holding block. Think of it as a sort of parry. Also, just because you get a block-counter doesn't mean RUSH in. It's best for little taps unless you KNOW you can follow up with a 1-2 punch.

Furthermore. While charging your punches is good, if you charge your punches every time you get slow and predictable. Normal punches keep your opponents guessing and do the little bits of damage necessary to turn the match around. Spring-Men seem especially addicted to constantly trying to charge their arms due to their boi-oi-oing wave counter thing.

In short: Learn to block skillfully and with no wasted time, and don't be a moron and only punch when you're charged, and you'll definitely start climbing faster.

I wouldn't even say Mummy is strictly that bad. I find myself being fairly successful with him.

I think the major issue is that he is so slow and a big target, but doesn't technically make up for that with damage. All arms deal the same damage regardless of character. His throw is the most damaging in the game but that is only by 50/40/30 damage depending on the character.

He also has the same amount of health as every other character, this only being made up for by the fact that he has armor when he is acting and that he has a dinky little heal. Mechanica moves faster and has that aerial presence that half the cast has, and also has the armor.

The way I see it, either give Mummy an actual damage increase, or give him more health. Anything else would change him to be different than his design intends, and I like his design.

As another Ramenfag, it's usually any of the electric elements, or if you wanna be an ass, have Crackers on your dragon arm. Having it charged basically makes it a giant blasting beast that knocks people down so you always have momentum going for you.

I use Sparky, Ramram and Hydra. Sparky for the dragon punch to grab combos, Ramram for the fire power and odd angles and Hydra to catch Ribbon girl and other evasive types.

The way I see it you only want one electric arm and one fire arm. Fire can be better than electric if your opponent isn't on the ground when you hit them, so I'd say they're both useful, and it's more options than just two electric or two fire. I feel like you can change out Sparky for Toaster if you change out Ramram for Thunderbird if you want the odd angle stuns or the straight on damage.

You also want a boxing glove because their low lag makes them easy to throw out without getting punished. Having just boxing gloves is bad to catch certain angles though so you want a curving arm to cover that weakness.

Hydra is pretty much just to catch Ribbon Girl, but Cracker also has a wide hitbox that doesn't get fully blocked sometimes and can catch high jumps, although not as well as hydra in my opinion. Hydra's a bit less easy to block and hits a bit easier, but Cracker does 20 more damage, so they both have merit.

Try and get an electric arm. Use the megaton as a distraction, throw out the electric arm. Stun, throw, repeat. Your throw hurts.

Curving weapons are the most effect against you, as megaton goes through pretty much anything, so curving goes around. It isn't as easy to throw MM as people think, you can react to throws as fast as any character so you just punch through it.

It's going to be an uphill battle but I think he's the most fun for me, so I find it to be worth it. Might try out Mechanica though for that size thing.

I don't know what constitutes a good player, but like I said I've only lost to one minmin and it was because of the stage being imbalanced. One hit knocking me off of the gyro from a fast hitting charged thunderbird fucked me over. Otherwise all the ones I've personally played are predictable and easy to punish.

Pretty balanced. There are a few who stand out because of their speed (Ninjara, Ribbon Girl, Kid Cobra) but overall they're all playable.

As far as lasting appeal, it depends. There's admittedly a pretty barebones amount of content in the game currently aside from online matches, but they plan to release free DLC for it over the upcoming months. Depending on how they act, it could continue to gain popularity

Throw your punches in the direction you feel your opponent is going to move in, and use your back up arm to cover the area directly in front of you or the other direction. Not sure what control scheme you have but if you have motion controls, then your probably gonna be punching horizontally more than vertically.
Also if they're jumping directly at you punch straight to slap them out the air. Alternatively that's the best way to spike the ball in v ball

I wish they had incentivized beating all the single player stuff. Aside from minuscule amounts of credits that go toward using the ARMS Getter, I wish there was other unlockable stuff. So I was playing around with the mechanics last night, and I noticed a few things.

This can be done multiple times to semi-hover, but you need to be close to the pole. Possibly good for avoiding by hugging the pole, but I need to experiment with it more.

You have to hold the jump button the entire time from when you pressed jump and not press any other button in the air to charge using the jump button, you can't release and re-press it either. If you air dash then instead you need to hold dash till you land. If you punched in the air you can go into charge if you manage to double jump or air dash before landing if you hold the button.

Landing from a jump without punching or after an air dash also gives a quick charge without holding the button.

Dunno what's with the Mechanica hate in this thread. Her mobility when combined with weapons that are pretty much meant to be curved (seekers, whips, hammer) she can be quite threatening. I'm not saying she's Ribbon girl tier but I think she's towards the bottom of high tier or the top of mid tier. And besides, everyone feels like a good/even match-up for her except Ribbon Girl but that bitch is tough for everyone. At least that's my experience in climbing to just below rank 9.

If you play Mechanica and you aren't constantly dashing, hovering, dodging you're fucking retarded. The only time you should be standing still as her is to guard and even then you are likely better off avoiding or super armoring through hits and trying to punish your opponent.

Yeah I've literally fought two other Mechanica mains in ranked and I tore their assholes open because they didn't know what they were doing. One kept rematching me for about 10 matches and he never took a game off me, I only dropped like 3-4 total rounds. Mechanica has one of the better ground games due to constant dash (no charging unlike Kid Cobra) and super armor. She trades it for not having the best air maneuverability (certainly below Ribbon Girl, Minmin, Twintelle, and probably Ninjara) but her air game is still WAY better than most of the cast. I think Mechanica can teach you how to be intelligent in your aggression, teaches you maneuverability, and how to curve punches (a must because you are always moving so your opponent is gonna move a lot too). I love indirect load outs on her so I go Slamamander, Chaser, and Whammer (people don't realize the level of bullshit whammers can pull off). I have yet to try out any birds or chakrams on her mainly because I really like my loadout.

The only notable weakness I feel Mechanica has is against Ribbon Girl you can get stuck underneath her at point blank distance and grabs will rape you, but I feel there's an answer I'm not seeing. I also play too aggressive so that and I can lose to kiting sometimes, so maybe I should give the birds a try.

From my experience Blorb and Megaton are slow as fuck and interfere with her maneuverability leaving her wide open and stupidly susceptible to punishment. In my experience the Whammer is her signature weapon for a reason because of its direct nature (great grab cancel and deflect attack), ability to go around attacks, damage, and speed compared to other heavy weapons. Now I don't have upgraded versions with faster withdraw so maybe that improves them, but I think the Whammer is a better choice. Revolver is very solid, electricity feels like a must run honestly, but I'm not a fan of its recovery time and directness. I'd say give other fast or more accurate electric moves a try, if you are using the revolver the main strength is its always charged as long as you keep dashing and it can't explode on you.

Swap your heavy arm but keep playing with the revolver until you find a better fast/electric weapon you like. If you prefer speed/directness try the electric punching glove, if you want more damage/curving get the Chaser.

Also reminder to everyone always save up for 200 coins. I get around 15-20 boxes every time.

Thanks for the offer but I'm at work. Also at my rank I'm getting a lot of practice against Ribbon Girl so I'm getting a fair bit of practice, think it's less the match-up and more my approach to fighting. The fact that lvl 7 Headlock fucking manhandled me for over an hour showed me I'm playing too aggressive.

Side note does anyone what feel like they are breaking their hands after playing on the pro controller for a few hours? I dunno if it's how I grip it, how I play Mechanica, or just that I'm getting older.

The blorb is a quirky weapon. One thing that pisses me off about it is if you use it to punch through a grab a lot of times you'll miss because you lob it up and over the grab. This has a secondary advantage though because for exactly that reason a blorb punch can save you from an enemy rush.

Yeah but those quirks also come with the whips and are three times faster, trickier in their maneuverability, can actually whip through a grab, and can save you from rushes and grabs that are about to hit you. Both the whip and the Whammer have saved me from so many grabs or rushes that were about to take effect, even if it connects there is a split second of time from when you are caught up when the grab starts so you can hit them still.

There's no hitbox on feet. It's noticeable when jumping over grabs, especially on wakeup you can mash jump to avoid being grabbed even though it looks like it goes through your legs. Try it out in vs mode.

I think double electric is overkill and can severely pigeonhole you, so if you are dead set on the toaster I'd go Megawat paired with an ice chakram/bird or the boomerang. Another option is Thunderbird + ice dragon/boomerang if you wanna be a kiting bastard.

Remember if you run Megawat you want to use that to blitz at your opponent and knock their arms down while you toss your indirect weapon.

I have thunderbird for her and tried it for a while but I still prefer revolver. The thunderbird has long recovery, and can easily be avoided by walking in any direction. Revolver feels specially designed for her ability, because the shots fan out if you punch while using her extended dash or hover sideways making them harder for opponent to avoid. In comparison, Retorcher always fires in a triangle shape.

If anyone's curious and hasn't tried it yet, the long timer for ARMS getter that costs 200 is definitely worth it. It not only lasts for ages but there is a constant stream of arms packages dropping so I ended up with like 15 new ones, 6 of which were for the character I was doing it with.

I actually like the idea of being to adapt and counter arms when you can. Now certain arms are really fucking good but just leaving it on default arms will make characters straight up better than others (Twintelle has the two best elements in the game and Helix has a terrible loadout). On that note, as a main, Minmin's kicks are kinda ass. They are really slow and you cant parry on reaction since it has a delay so you have to parry a predictable arm and it doesn't always lead to punish unless you are close.

The plain boxing arms are alot better than you think they are. They are typically faster with better recovery and you can throw them out like crazy to build up rush. I think fire is the worst element in the game since it doesn't do anything special but knockdown. Guardian is straight up terrible. They should make it bigger

From what I've found this only works if you're at more HP than they are. If you're down you're the one that either gets desperate or needs to find an opening. One time I encountered a Ribbon Girl who did not throw a single punch the entire match, she only danced around my punches since I was at -25% from the start.

Movement isn't really much different on motion vs traditional. With motion you still can't curve right while walking left, or the other way around, it just stops you. Have to tilt both joycons while an arm is out to get full speed. Main difference is that motion lets you curve arms in opposite directions at the same time, and it lets you stand still while full curving where traditional makes you take a step. Using both arms at the same time isn't usually safe, and if the first one was going to miss anyways it doesn't matter if it steers a bit in the same direction as the other arm with traditional.

I played all the test punches and first two hours of launch with motion, but switched because wrist pain and its less tiring.

Fair enough. If we were talking about a traditional fighting game, I would agree with you 100% but you can still be good at this game while not always using your characters mechanics. I've looked at this argument from minmin's parry but this doesn't apply to other characters really.

Just like another anon said, I'd rather people just lock in 3 arms they want for the whole tourney. I don't want people to have the entire selection of arms available but making your own loadout can bring alot of freedom into this game.

I'm kinda curious how tournaments would handle the counterpick aspect of ARMS since it feels more of a counterpick dependent fighter than even Smash. Stages all play a huge part of the puzzle here. Try it, it doesn't work. When curving with one joycon you control movement somewhat with the other joycon. Both joycons need to be tilted to walk. Obviously you can tilt both in the same direction to walk in the direction of the curved punch, and you can tilt the on doing the curved punch diagonally to control forward and back movement. But if you tilt opposite directions you come to a complete stop.

Tournaments are likely going to run "default ARMS only" until Nintendo adds a setting for disabling +ARMS. Smash TOs were crazy enough to unlock Customs and run those for a while but RNG is bound to give you one +ARM while you're unlocking shit, and then you're going to have to unlock ALL +ARMS, and I don't think anyone's about to gravitate towards a handicap meta.

I adore the idea of counterpicking ARMS and mixing/matching in tournament capacity but Nintendo didn't think things through when it came to the "upgrade ARMS" thing.

Its not unlocking ARMS thats the biggest issue, its the fact that +ARMS exist the way they do. They're a blatant handicap that you can't avoid while unlocking things and I don't expect comp players to want to adopt them as the default, so players will probably stick to each characters' default ARMS unless Nintendo adds options to disable them.

I feel bad because I'm falling out of love with the game. Ranked is showing me that top level play will almost always result in a time out because defensive options are so strong. For reference, I'm still only rank 5, but I'm being matched against 11s right now. I haven't dropped a match yet.

So maybe it is too early for me to say, but it just kills my hype when every game is built around zoning and utilizing defensive options to force life leads. I think the game is close to being balanced out for offense, with them generating Rush for throwing fists, but I wish there was just a little bit extra. I admit I don't know what I'd want to see though.

This Anon is right, at least one Megaton is essential on Mummy. I even tried replacing it with Megawatt and it still isn't quite as good because of the loss of speed making it a chore to hit anyone. He's probably one of the few characters who starts out with their best arms already available.
