Here is a few tidbits on Forces. I don't want to spoil too much, but here it is.

Infinite is an aggressive species of Wisp called "Wasp".

Shadow is working for Eggman because Infinite has captured Rouge, by Eggman's request.

Chaos is working for Eggman because the Doctor promised him the world's water. (Yes, it's that ridiculous.)

Blaze doesn't appear, but is mentioned at least once.

Omega also doesn't appear, but he is not mentioned at all.

Classic Sonic is in Modern Sonic's universe because his chaos emeralds brought him there.

The custom hero does go super -- in a way. He doesn't turn gold like Classic and Modern Sonic, but still has the golden aura.


And these are a few new zones that are in the game. I'm only going to list three:

Downpour Canyon Zone.
Egg City Zone.
Chaotic Industrial Zone.

And three bosses: (Not necessarily connected to the levels.)

Egg Caravan.
Zazz.
Egg Viper. (Yup, the same one from Adventure. It's WAY larger than the original, though.)

Earth (or, at least, the human world) and Sonic's world are two different worlds. One has humans and one blown-up moon, and the other doesn't have humans, has more unrealistic locations (like Music Plant or Casino Park), and has more than one moon (you can see two moons in some Riders screenshots). Both these worlds know of each other and can access the other world through a kind of "gate", most probably a dimensional fixture of some kind, unlike in Sonic X, where the two worlds had no knowledge of the other and no natural way to access the other.

This Sonic story is written by Lew Stringer, who played Iceman to Nigel Kitching's Maverick, if I can stretch the contemporary pop-culture analogies a bit. Basicall Stringer began to write stories in the same "canon" which Kitching was working in.

Sonic should just be even more like Dragon Ball, since it's ripped it off so much. Sonic shouldn't actually be a playable character, he should be a plot device NPC that saves the day. Every game should be about the main characters searching for Sonic, and when they find him he wins in the ending cutscene. Then eventually he gets ignored more and more until he becomes an afterthought.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the piracy exploit cause sales of the Dreamcast to increase? At least that's what I heard. I remember a lot of people expressed more interest in the console around the time when the utopia boot disk was a thing and people where just starting to really use the mill CD piracy exploit. Infact, I remember it pretty fondly, my brother traded his Xbox to a cousin for a Dreamcast and took his collection of pirated and genuine Dreamcast disks. I watched him play those games kinda awestruck at sonic adventure and I'm pretty sure he had sonic adventure 2 as well. Problem is it was years later when I realised he was playing sonic adventure and that one "Halloween level" I'd kept in my memory to prove my brother played this fun 3D platformer once and that it definitely existed. I kind of agree, because with adventure, you could just choose the character routes you wanted to play then be done with the game and though sure you didn't get the true ending it still feels like a full sonic game. With adventure 2 you're forced into playing as everyone in a specific order and can't tackle the characters you don't want to really play as until later, it removes choice. But sonic adventure 2 flows better cause you know, no hubworld or repeated boss fights fought by multiple characters.

How? Having to play a full game's worth of a different playstyle destroys the pacing. With SA2 you get excited when you hit the next speed stage, but in SA1 once you beat Sonic's playthrough, you're done and you have to go through all of Knuckles's hunting stages in consecutive order if you want to beat the whole game. Even if it's fun, imagine if instead of swapping between Modern and Classic in Generations, you had to play either all of Modern first or all of Classic first before tackling the other. It's stupid.

Both formats are fucked up though. It should be like Sly Cooper: have all characters swappable on the fly and go to different markers in the HUB world, letting you play the other characters' levels whenever you want while keeping it a linear story.

It only destroys the pacing story wise. Gameplay wise, Sonic and Shadow are overshadowed massively by the other characters. And that would be fine if the stories were almost entirely separate and disconnected, but they're not. It's not like Birth By Sleep where the individual playthroughs revolve around the characters themselves and have virtually nothing to do with each other until it all comes together near the end. The plot in that game is so convoluted you NEEDED different playthroughs to understand what was going on. Sonic Adventure's story on the other hand is fucking THIN. Almost everything you would ever want to know is told in Sonic's playthrough. Knuckles's story explains how Chaos was revived, but other than that, there's nothing noteworthy enough to justify an entire separate playthrough. Tails has nothing, Amy has nothing, Big has nothing, Gamma has every reason to justify his own arc but it's so far removed from the main plot that it feels like an afterthought.

/sthg/ do you ever create much more than just an OC? Like a whole side setting and everything that they were a part of, but found a reasonable explanation for it not showing up in canon before?

I mean, I kiiinda came up with an idea for there actually being seven dimensions, with six of them being polar opposites of one other one and sonic's being the one all of them are based on. Of course to do that I had to come up with a bunch of other stuff, but when do you stop and go "This, this is too much, no more." Especially if you like, keep yourself to strictly make your characters not be capable of upstaging sonic, because the most important rule I find in OC creation is to NEVER upstage the main character...

Bleh. Maybe if I flesh out the ideas more it'll work better. I've gone and typed up a pastebin for two parts of the scenario, maybe if I figure out more I can eventually actually make something out of it. But for some reason I keep hitting this part of my brain that says "Stop it, you're ruining everything!"
