When I have a squad of 3 and we get auto-matched with a squad member, I've had great experiences surprisingly. I get on the in-game VOIP and tell them what my group of 3 friends is doing and virtually every time they're cooperative and a great help. Solo squadders are GOAT.

what makes this game so good? i played the arma 3 battle royale mod, and it was kinda ok, but is there something special about this?

For my first 10 hours in this game that was my experience, but I got significantly better at spotting given some experience. Try turning shadows to very low, it makes spotting people in tree cover significantly easier. I donno man, it just seems that you're unreasonably upset about it. In my experience specific "top-tier" gear doesn't make a massive difference in my gameplay, with the exception of zoom optics for long-range engagements. The game spawns decent loot enough so there's enough for everybody to be reasonably well set-up within a few minutes. I've won plenty of games with an M16 and a 4x with any shotgun to back it up, which you should be able to find even with loot-grubbing friends. In my experience, having more guns shooting, even if they're shitty players, helps.

If your plane will take you directly over your desired drop location, is it better to bail out early and long glide, or bail out directly overhead and dive straight down?

Fastest way to the ground is to dive straight down at, like, 220 km/h, and then, just before the altitude bar at the bottom left reaches the white area (the top of the white is when your chute auto deploys), let your hands off your mouse and keyboard. It'll sort of speed drop you for a significant portion of the parachute duration. Might be good to check youtube for a better description of how to speed drop.

We've got the the guy who is always behind because "sniper" and doesn't snipe well, who is also the same guy who doesn't stop looting when we call we're leaving because blue is coming-- waiting until blue is literally there, who is the same person who will continue looting when we call out that there are people on top of us and we're engaging.

Then there's the guy who doesn't understand lag compensation and waits behind the corner until the enemy turns it and easily kills him first. Who uses f to pickup and then complains the other guy picked up faster. etc

I don't get why they are adding more crate weapons now. 4 AR's, 3 shotguns, 3 SMG's, 2 snipers and the VSS can be found around the map. Considering how many loot locations there are it doesn't take very long to find your preferred weapons and get going, it doesn't feel like scavenging as much. And as it stands now for every crate you just cross your fingers and hope it's the M24 or the AWM, everything else feels like they aren't powerful enough to really feel you got a leg up from the crate.

I hope snipers end up getting hit with a bit of a nerf, they are way too powerful for what they do and win fights easily at anything beyond vector range. One shot downs are insanely powerful as every weapon had a fairly high TTK compared to most games, especially at range. They become game winning towards the end with the headshots and it's much more rare to find a situation where you would prefer your SMG as fights end up at a distance the majority of the time.

It can be frustrating to hit many locations and even a crate and find no sniper, and someone else has access to one that will just kill you instantly. I mean I'm totally fine with the RNG in the game but sniper rifles are the only thing that really push it and that's due to the 1 hit down power they have. Of course if they don't down in 1 headshot then they are fucking worthless so who knows what to do beyond severely limiting their spawn rates. I wouldn't be opposed to making the 8x and 15x as well as any sniper rifle crate exclusive, making fights for crates that much more important and making them very rare to come across, forcing fights to occur in shorter ranges unless you git gud at long distance fire with a 4x or 2x.

SKS also feels over nerfed and I would be fine with leaving that on the map and buffing it a bit.

Got my first chicken dinner! I'll admit I lucked out a bit, however, I'm actually starting to get solo queue positioning, and how to prevent yourself from dying like a dog.

I lucked out here cause it was a 3 man in this area. Some guy was hiding behind a rock and shot him in the face. The last guy I think was up on that structure. If the playzone ended up there, he would have won.

Yup, it's kinda stupid that the m249/tommy gun/vss are never worth even picking up. Only thing you would want from taking that risk is a awm or m24. With all the added weapons it will be even more rare.

There's only one viable sniper in the game which isn't crate loot and is rare. It's kinda cool tho that if you find one with 4x/8x, you're usually heading pretty far in the game.

And the shooting has tons of issues due to the way people's positions are updated. I can't even shoot people moving in cars or even on foot most if they're going horizontally across my screen because they twitch move, it's not smoothe at all.

Because the maximum potential of this game is achieved through different map sizes with different loot zones that force you to ask the "Is the risk worth the reward" question different

The natural end state of the current map is maximum spread to all corners, then get pushed back in because of the circle. You don't have to drop into a city directly below the plane, and honestly it's a "bad" decision to do so, but it's fun so people do it. If people play to win, they'll drop as far from the plane as possible.

If you had maps that played with this mechanic more, of various sizes or differing loot areas, you will see different gameplay styles emerge from it even if you've changed nothing else about the mechanics, or the engine.

Well the VSS can drop in loot crates though. The groza is confirmed to be a supply drop AR, and I feel it's more so there can be an actual assault rifle in the crate. Only thing left would be a crate shotgun, AA-12 maybe for that category so you have 20 rounds of full auto shotgun to dump?

I just won my last match last night because of an m249 I looted off a corpse. I feel it has a much greater use in squad, where as in solo you put yourself at too much of a disadvantage to gain the benefits. When people are distracted firing at allies they sometimes don't notice you prone, allowing you to dump a ton of rounds even at range with a 4x due to the low recoil, and almost garuntee a down.

It just depends on the terrain and situation you are in, it's situational as hell but it's really useful in those situations. And if nothing else you can use it for super close range mag dumping if needed.

The ending is usually the hardest part of the round. Often the spot where it ends will determine your success, if it's on you and you don't have to move then you will have an advantage as you can shoot at people who have to move towards you, likewise if it's not on you and you have to move toward a position you know is hot try to play as low key as possible, and gather info on other peoples positions. Shooting at people shooting at people can help you too, since neither will be focused on you and if you take out the person in the best position you can have a shot at moving up.
Having a close range option at the end can also give you a huge advantage, I've won many rounds with UMP/double barrel since they are at their best in that range.

Endgame is kind of shitty, since I feel like I can win most early game fights. I have posted on the general a few times about how the meta does need to change, but imagine if you had a map smaller than the current one, and the only high loot zone was in the center of the map? There would be houses here and these everywhere else, but the only dense loot area is in the middle.

Or even more dangerously - some tier-guaranteed loot in set spawns on a map.

Imagine spawning in, and knowing there are a set number of crates already spawned in the map, or dropping within that center area? Or knowing there is always an M249 and 200 rounds as a set spawn right in the MIDDLE of the map.

Reminds me of what I used to do in TF2 marketplace where I'd have this big old spreadsheet of prices for killstreak kits. I'd then spend a few hours trying to Jew my friends who played MvM a lot so I could get cheap robot parts to complete the kits and then I bought the rest off of scrap.tf and the market. Then I'd resell the shit for a profit. It was a good, if time consuming strategy but I really enjoyed doing it. Made me feel productive, though I have no idea if it were actually profitable to do so considering I never priced the inputs that I already had in my backpack, or the tickets I spent playing MvM, or the time.

If I had to guess if it were profitable, I'd say no. If it was, it was lower than minimum wage. I'd need to do the math to know for sure but if it were higher than minimum wage it'd be amazing and I'd find a reliable way to cash out without getting fucked.

Me and my buddies love to drop school, not for the slaughterfest at the beginning but rather for afterward where we move over to apartments and clear them tactically. You don't need to estimate. 1 rectangle is literally 100m. Open the map, look where they are and count how many rectangles you crossed.

Shooting long distance shots is a joke anyway. You can get better with practise, but chances are if your target is moving and you miss the first shot the only thing you've really achieved is giving your position away to the whole map. Snipers are still fantastic at midrange where you can just line up the crosshair and pop heads though.

Someone posted an image earlier about how to use its rangefinder. Honestly though, it's just so highly situational in this game that I don't get to employ it very effectively most of the time I get it. That's why I like taking the AK with it because the AK is just an all around good weapon imo.

It's strong in the last couple circles 'cause it's so quiet and the terrible bullet velocity isn't a big issues at those ranges, and it's strong in situations where you have a flank on people who are reasonably close but don't want to reveal yourself to others around you. Basically, it's bad as a sniper rifle but good as a short to short-medium range stealth weapon. And yeah, its damage is the same as the UMP (35).

Don't use it long range. Don't use auto unless you're literally spraying in 3rd person from a meter away.

Just keep it on semi and spamming shots as quickly and as accurately as you can, aiming for the head of course.

Not if you're going diagonally. Then it's about 141m per square. But that's still only if you're going corner to corner. Otherwise you do have to estimate.
