The following teams now have a lower score than the top scoring team that had to play in the qualifiers this time around (this was /mggg/ with 372 points):

/aceg/: 46 points

So these teams are probably going to be sent to the qualifiers unless a ton of new generals join for 9. Especially /aceg/ who now has fewer points than these qualifer teams: /vn/, /ss13g/, /digi/, /agdg/, and /egg/

The way rankings work promoting teams get an extra chunk of points because they play six games at the very least (3 quali group + 3 main group) while teams that do badly that didn't have to promote only get the 3 main group games. This means that unless a team completely choked after promoting they aren't likely to drop back down to the qualifiers at least not immediately.

Likewise teams that failed to promote only get 3 games against low ranking opponents, so its hard for teams to "promote" by being above the 32nd place if they didn't actually promote properly in the previous season. Not impossible though depending on who signs up.

If you run defensive GKs (not recommended!) and your defense lets up (something 7-0-3 /utg/ basically allowed to happen to them for the early second half against /aceg/ and came naturally to them as a result of hard busparking against /sog/) you've probably just given up a free goal. Couple that with /aceg/ starting on an(other) awful pseudo 4-2-3-1 (but with a 77 SS this time!) and making worse changes and you've got a recipe for disaster.
